Welcome back to all of our readers! We’ve had a lovely break but we’re raring to go again and share with you all the great community news in and around Maleny. So what’s been happening in the community since our last newsletter in December?

best Christmas clobber to celebrate 12 months of park running in Maleny! Congratulations to Joanne Turner and her band of the volunteers who have made Parkrun possible in Maleny every Saturday.

On 9th December, a new $3.9 million emergency services facility was of cially opened by Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan MP, and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) Commissioner Greg Leach. The new facility will house three QFES services, Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) auxiliary re ghters, and Rural Fire Service (RFS) and State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers.

The newly formed Maleny Street Gardener' Alliance further beauti ed the town centre with some gorgeous hanging baskets - see them outside Gone Bonkers and on the Maleny Hotel’s veranda, and we hear there is much more to come!

The new station will boost QFES’ capability now and into the future, is centrally located at the junction of major roads, allowing for emergency services personnel to swiftly respond to all types of incidents in the area and also boosted the local community with 12 jobs created and a local contractor engaged for the construction. all good news for Maleny! Mid December, Sunshine Coast Scorchers bowler, and ex-Maleny Cricket Club player, Jared Jackson won the Matt Hayden Medal for player of the tournament in the Bulls Masters Youth Cup after getting 16 wickets in 5 games at an average of just under 6! The Scorchers have won in their rst year back in Qld Country Cricket. They batted rst and made 131. Far North chased hard but fell just short nishing on 122, a great effort. Jared nished the tournament with 16 wickets at an average of 5.69 and an economy rate of 3.17.

Maleny Commerce staged a very successful late night shopping extravaganza in the main street and the famous Maleny Neighbourhood Centre’s free Community Christmas Day Breakfast was a very festive occasion, complete with Santa Claus. In not so great news, Queensland recorded its rst cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in early December and we'll endeavour to bring updated news from Queensland Health on that front with each edition. On December 10th between 5p.m. and 9p.m. the Maleny Community held a Maleny Late Night Christmas Shopping night which included entertainment and a pet petting zoo for children. On 18th December, the Maleny Trail Parkrun held their rst birthday - 65 runners and walkers turned up in their
