Welcome back to all of our readers! We’ve had a lovely break but we’re raring to go again and share with you all the great community news in and around Maleny. So what’s been happening in the community since our last newsletter in December?

best Christmas clobber to celebrate 12 months of park running in Maleny! Congratulations to Joanne Turner and her band of the volunteers who have made Parkrun possible in Maleny every Saturday.

On 9th December, a new $3.9 million emergency services facility was of cially opened by Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan MP, and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) Commissioner Greg Leach. The new facility will house three QFES services, Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) auxiliary re ghters, and Rural Fire Service (RFS) and State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers.

The newly formed Maleny Street Gardener' Alliance further beauti ed the town centre with some gorgeous hanging baskets - see them outside Gone Bonkers and on the Maleny Hotel’s veranda, and we hear there is much more to come!

The new station will boost QFES’ capability now and into the future, is centrally located at the junction of major roads, allowing for emergency services personnel to swiftly respond to all types of incidents in the area and also boosted the local community with 12 jobs created and a local contractor engaged for the construction. all good news for Maleny!

Mid December, Sunshine Coast Scorchers bowler, and ex-Maleny Cricket Club player, Jared Jackson won the Matt Hayden Medal for player of the tournament in the Bulls Masters Youth Cup after getting 16 wickets in 5 games at an average of just under 6! The Scorchers have won in their rst year back in Qld Country Cricket.

They batted rst and made 131. Far North chased hard but fell just short nishing on 122, a great effort. Jared nished the tournament with 16 wickets at an average of 5.69 and an economy rate of 3.17.

Maleny Commerce staged a very successful late night shopping extravaganza in the main street and the famous Maleny Neighbourhood Centre’s free Community Christmas Day Breakfast was a very festive occasion, complete with Santa Claus.

In not so great news, Queensland recorded its rst cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in early December and we'll endeavour to bring updated news from Queensland Health on that front with each edition.

On December 10th between 5p.m. and 9p.m. the Maleny Community held a Maleny Late Night Christmas Shopping night which included entertainment and a pet petting zoo for children.

Master Blasters at Maleny Cricket Club!

In late December a group of Maleny Redbacks' Master Blasters took part in a coaching clinic with Nathan Reardon, former professional Australian cricketer and currently professional cricket coach.

A lot a new skills were learned by the youngsters and more importantly, fun was had. We cannot wait to see this group apply their newly learnt techniques when they return to play in the new year.

Thanks to Nathan for coming to Maleny Cricket Club. A huge thanks to Maleny and Hinterland Real Estate for organising and supporting this program for our youngest cricketers. Locals supporting locals.

Maleny Trail Parkrun You too can be leaping for joy EVERY Saturday morning at the Maleny Trail Parkrun on the Maleny Community Precinct.

What is Maleny Parkrun? It’s a 5km trail, 6.40 am for 7.00 am start every Saturday and you must register, just once, to be a participant as many times as you like - and its all FREE! Register at the web site below: https://www.parkrun.com.au/ register/ The event starts at the Maleny District Sport and Recreation Club building at the bottom of Parklands Drive via Porters Lane, North Maleny.

Maleny Showgrounds is open for camping. This ground offers camping year-round (maximum 3 night stay), except during major events & seasonal blackout dates.

All campers who can adhere to the Qld Health, Sunshine Coast Council and Qld Government regulations pertaining to Covid-19 social distancing and hygiene guidelines are welcome.

Josie Coco is offering counselling support at no charge for those experiencing nancial hardship.

Enjoy a peaceful environment close to town. Groups and caravanning clubs are welcome. Cost is just $25 per night.

The clinic is on Mondays at the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre.

Electricity, water, toilet/shower facilities, access to Dump Point are all available.

I hope you are all having a good start to your week so far!

Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles is what I am all about! Just a reminder that my group classes for all ages started on Monday 15th November at the Maleny District Sport & Rec Club, situated at the bottom of Parklands Drive on the beautiful Maleny Precinct.

I am offering exible and fun tness options, and cater to all age groups and levels of tness, holding classes in the morning and afternoon/evening. My classes include: After school tness classes Mat Pilates Strength & Power BoxFit/HIIT I specialise in children’s tness, from grades 1 - 12 - see my website for the details or check out the timetable below.

Grass stops for no man and as soon as the rain stopped, Maleny’s sports grounds and outdoor facilities were buzzing to the sound of volunteers mowing!

Maleny Golf Course crew earned their ‘stripes’ on Monday, with the course in great shape.

Witta Rec Club’s Duck Pond subsided long enough to allow Matthew Howard to get on the job, and Mike Norman has plenty to occupy his spare time up on the Precinct, keeping the Ziza Field and Selectors Green in great condition for visitors to enjoy.

Baroon Pocket Dam after rain

After all this rain, Baroon Pocket Dam is now at 100.8% capacity, which is further good news. Some quick facts about the dam; it was built across Obi Obi Creek and completed in 1988/89.

Located about 7 km north of Maleny, between Maleny and Montville, Baroon Pocket Dam supplies drinking water to the region as part of the SEQ Water Grid. It has a catchment area of 67.00km², the length of the dam wall is 370.00m and it is constructed of zoned earth and rock ll embankment.

Sign of the Times for Maleny Golf Club Maleny Golf Club is very pleased to see the weather cheering up this week - they've had some record numbers with golfers enjoying a round or two over the school holidays.

Never ones to slack off, golf volunteers also got the chance to install this beautifully crafted new sign. Golf member John Hays cut, crafted and painted the new sign, seen here being bedded in by (L-R) Lionel Tilley, Golf Club Superintendent Mick McCombe and Steve Lawrence.

Pattemore House Closure

Pattemore House is temporarily closed to the public from 7th January, 2022.

Amid rising concerns about the current rapidly escalating COVID situation on the Sunshine Coast and Hinterland, the decision has been made to close Pattemore House to the public until further notice.

It is dif cult to achieve adequate social distancing inside the house for the safety of volunteers and visitors. Pattemore House personnel will advise when it is safe to open again.

Maleny Calendar of Events 2022 Beersheba Museum Temporary Closure In efforts to protect troopers, volunteers and visitors, Troop Commander Rob of Maleny’s 5th Light Horse Regiment has advised the temporary closure of the Beersheba Museum on the Maleny Precinct to visitors throughout the month of January.

Training in January is cancelled, as is the Australia Day parade that was planned. We’ll bring you further advice about when you can visit the museum and drop by to watch the troopers in action as it comes to hand.

The Range Croquet Club - Maleny Best wishes for the New Year to everybody with hopes that you enjoyed the festive season. The weather has been good to us with good rain and heat to help grass grow. Good weather for cows and croquet players.

Play resumed on the second of January with a gritty game between Vince Carbery and Ken Barker.

Adrift in a sea of errors these two could only manage seven hoops apiece before calling an early close in the teeth of an approaching real-life storm.

Please arrive at 2 pm for games to be arranged at 2.15 and started by 2.30.

There was no play on Thursday 6th because it was too wet. This meant an eager little group gathered on Sunday 9th. People with tournaments to prepare for and people just out to have some fun lucked out with perfect playing conditions except for a lawn which played like treacle.

Lynette Evans and Sarah Widin teamed up to wrestle with a very heavy lawn 1 and to play against Stuart Craig and Ken in a fourteen-point game – only six hoops for each ball and a quick peg out. It was all over in one and a half hours with Ken and Stuart narrowly ahead 7-5.

We de-thatched and top-dressed lawn 1 in midDecember 2021. It is now available after only a brief two-to-three-week spell in which the sand settled. An excellent, though hot day meant all helpers were very welcome. An interesting fact of life Maleny is a popular place for us all to live and it is only going to get more popular. The Maleny community has so much to offer a family in respect to a convenient and friendly way of life.

It does not matter just what your recreational preferences are, there is an organisation to suit, whether it be sports minded, the arts, environmental interests or just enjoying the surrounding areas.

Pelican Waters and Maleny are among the 20 Australian suburbs where it’s almost impossible to nd a rental, according to new data. Maleny had just one property out of 612 rentals available for more than 21 days.
