Mackay Regional Mayor Greg Williamson’s statistician has the best information and advises that “Mackay’s current rental vacancy rate is actually 0.5 to 0.6 percent. “This shows just how tight Mackay’s rental market is, with only 136 houses and 116 flats available for rent in Mackay’s total rental market of 12,800 rental properties,” Mayor Williamson said. In comparison, during 2014/15, in the greater Mackay region there were 1300 rental properties advertised online for rent and the vacancy rate was 9.8 per cent.
