Aston Martin Virage – The next level of evolution – debut in May 2011.

Ferrari FF – 12 cylinders, Four seats, Four-wheel drive.

Aston Martin introduces the new Virage Coupe and Volante. The marque can now provide customers with a class-leading range, all with different characters, yet with the same unique Aston Martin soul and luxury. The Virage sits between the enduringly elegant DB9 and overtly sporting DBS, providing customers with a car that remains luxurious and understated but delivers increased performance for effortless driving. Aston Martin’s 6.0 litre V12 engine produces 497 PS and 570 Nm of torque and through its carbon fibre prop shaft, is mated to a six-speed Touchtronic II automatic transmission mounted on the transaxle contributing to perfect 50:50 weight balance. A newly developed Adaptive Damping System intelligently ‘reads’ the road to provide optimum road holding, adapting to different conditions. The system now selects up to five different stiffness settings within normal mode, and a further five stiffer settings within sport mode. Virage will be delivered with Carbon Ceramic Matrix brakes as standard offering progressive and tremendous stopping power. Virage capitalises on the technology from the DBS and unites it with the comfort and refinement found in the DB9 and Rapide.

The revolutionary FF offers a completely new take on the sporting Grand Tourer theme. It is not only the first Ferrari with four-wheel drive, but, more significantly, a model that hails a major break with the past, effortlessly melding extreme sports car performance with the versatility and usability of a genuine GT and boasting an extremely innovative design. Every single area of the FF brims with innovation, not least its engine, the first GDI V12 to be coupled with the seven-speed F1 dual-clutch gearbox. The V12 unleashes a massive 660 PS at 8,000 rpm, and maximum torque of 683 Nm at 6,000 rpm. This ensures the performance figures of an extreme sports car, with the 0-100 km/h sprint covered in 3.7 sec. and a top speed of 335 km/h.

Efficiency has been significantly boosted too, with fuel consumption now standing at just 15.4 l/100 km, and CO2 emissions at 360 g/km, a 25 % reduction compared to the previous V12s, thanks in part to the High Emotions-Low Emissions System which incorporates Stop&Start technology. Uniquely, the FF also guarantees this exceptional performance on terrain with very lowgrip coefficients, thanks to Ferrari’s own patented 4RM four-wheel drive system.

Cadillac CTS Coupé – dynamisches Design «à la Cadillac».

Mit dem CTS Coupé präsentiert Cadillac die neuste und wohl auch augenfälligste Entwicklung der neuen Design-Linie. Das Coupé ergänzt die aktuelle CTS-Modellreihe, die mit der sportlich-eleganten Limousine (CTS Sport Sedan), dem CTS-V als exklusive Hochleistungs-Limousine und dem ebenfalls neuen Kombi, dem CTS Sport Wagon, die Grundlage der heutigen Cadillac-Modellpalette bildet.

Noch in diesem Jahr folgt das Coupé in der hochkarätigen V-Version.

Das Coupé basiert auf der klassischen Coupé-Architektur mit 2+2 Plätzen und verfügt über verschiedenste technische Spezialitäten wie die Rückfahrkamera oder das auf hohe Fahrleistungen getrimmte Fahrwerk. Es ist wahlweise mit Heck- oder Allradantrieb erhältlich.

Mit der Direkteinspritzung verfügen die CTS-Modelle über eine Technologie, die mehr Leistung bei hoher Effizienz bezüglich Verbrauch und Abgasemissionen bietet. Der 3,6 l V6 Benzinmotor mit 311 PS ist mit einem sparsamen 6-Gang-Schaltgetriebe oder mit der HydraMatic 6L50 Sechsstufen-Automatik kombiniert. Das Fussgänger-Schutzsystem, welches bei einer Kollision automatisch die Motorhaube anhebt, erfüllt alle europäischen Auflagen betreffend Fussgängerschutz.

The new GranCabrio Sport offers more driving enjoyment thanks to an improved overall vehicle dynamics, a more responsive and efficient engine and optimized gearshift response. The GranCabrio Sport uses a more powerful and fuel-efficient version of the all-alloy 4.7-litre V8, coupled with the ZF 6-speed automatic transmission.

This naturally aspirated engine produces 450 PS and has 510 Nm at the peak of its rich, thick torque curve. Maserati's Friction Reduction Program has made the GranCabrio Sport's engine more reactive to the driver's most-nuanced inputs, while reaching a 6% reduction in fuel consumption. The top speed is 285 km/h. The 6-speed transmission is equipped with the super-fast MC Auto Shift software and has been developed for the GranCabrio Sport directly from the transmission in the Quattroporte Sport GT S. The MC Auto Shift provides optimized gearshift response resulting in an even-greater engagement. Visually, the GranCabrio Sport is characterized by a more-pronounced dynamic look. This look begins at the GranCabrio's distinctive nose with a black grille and a Trident with red accents.

The GranCabrio Sport will be on sale starting from Summer 2011.

Bentley Continental GT 4 – The GT coupe’s new look is bolder than ever.

Mercedes C63 AMG – New design and enhanced technology.

Now the new Continental GT 4-seat coupe builds on the success of its iconic predecessor, capturing that GT spirit but with even higher standards of design, engineering, luxury, craftsmanship, dynamic performance, everyday practicality and refinement. A beautifully sculptured new body gives the GT coupe an even crisper, more defined appearance. The contemporary interior offers new levels of cabin design, comfort and hand-crafted luxury. Bentley’s acclaimed 6-litre, 12-cylinder, twin-turbocharged powertrain now has a raised power output of 575 PS and 700 Nm of torque and this is mated to a new Quickshift transmission which enables double downshifts. Thanks to advanced FlexFuel technology it can also run on both standard unleaded petrol and sustainable bioethanol (up to E85) or any mix of the two. In late 2011 an all-new, high-output 8-cylinder engine will also be available to order. This advanced power unit will deliver a 40 % reduction in emissions compared with the W12 engine and will offer a class-leading CO2 emissions-to-power ratio with Bentley levels of performance and refinement. Both engines are coupled to an all-wheel drive system with a sporty 40:60 rear-torque bias.

The latest 2011 generation of the C 63 AMG is now more dynamic and athletic than ever. Thanks to its new radiator grille with a large Mercedes star and a wing-type transverse louvre, as well as a new AMG front apron with a lower cross member painted in highgloss black, special AMG daytime running lights and side air outlets. The modified design of the top-of-the-range C-Class model is complemented by numerous enhancements to its technology which deliver even more driving enjoyment while reducing fuel consumption significantly. The introduction of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission with the «Controlled Efficiency» mode as standard along with a new power steering pump helps to reduce the combined NEDC fuel consumption by about 10% to 12.0l/100 km. The output of the naturally aspirated AMG 6.3litre V8 engine is unchanged at 457 PS and attains a peak torque of 600 Nm at 5000 rpm. Agility, grip and ride comfort have been enhanced as a result of numerous measures to optimise the AMG sports suspension. New assistance systems and a new generation of telematics with internet access increase both safety and comfort.

Jeep Grand Cherokee – Ultimate Blend of Legendary Capability and On-road Refinement.

The Panamera S Hybrid marks the beginning of a new chapter of Porsche Intelligent Performance, continuing the success story of the four-door Gran Turismo. Without sacrificing sportiness and elegance, the new hybrid model combines a total power output of 380 PS with best-case fuel consumption of only 6.8 l/100 km based on the NEDC. That equates to CO2 emissions of just 159 g/km. This not only makes the Panamera S Hybrid the most economical Porsche of all time, it also puts it streets ahead of all the other hybrid production vehicles in its class, the luxury class, when it comes to fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The Panamera S Hybrid achieves these outstanding consumption and emissions values using optional low-friction 19” tyres developed by Michelin specifically for the Porsche Panamera. These all-season tyres offer a tread mixture with particularly low rolling resistance and an optimised carcass with reduced frictional losses. Even with the 18” standard tyres, the new Porsche hybrid model's fuel consumption attains an unprecedentedly low level in this class – 7.1 l/100 km, equating to 167 g/km CO2. The Panamera S Hybrid accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.0 sec., reaching a top speed of 270 km/h.

The new Grand Cherokee features the first application of the allnew 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine. This all-new flexible-fuel 3.6liter V-6 engine is standard on the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and features an all-new design with dual overhead camshafts (DOHC) and a high-pressure die-cast aluminum cylinder block in a 60-degree configuration. It features variable-valve timing and delivers 290 PS and 353 Nm of torque at 4.800 rpm. The new V-6 engine improves fuel economy up to 11% compared to the previous Grand Cherokee equipped with a V-6. It is coupled with the proven W5A580, a 5-speed automatic transmission that delivers smooth shifts and optimum fuel economy. The 5-speed transmission includes adaptive electronic control or Electronic Range Select (ERS) driver-interactive manual control and an electronically modulated torque converter clutch. The new Jeep Grand Cherokee offers trailer-tow capability of up to 2.300 tons on models equipped with the Pentastar V-6 engine. The new Grand Cherokee includes more than 45 safety and security features and is a 2011 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick.

Audi Q5 hybrid quattro – Kraft wie ein V6, Verbrauch wie ein Vierzylinder-TDI.

Der Audi Q5 hybrid quattro, der Ende des Jahres zu den Händlern rollt, ist das erste Grossserien-Hybridmodell von Audi, das zwei Antriebe nutzt. Sein Benzinmotor, ein 2.0 TFSI, und seine E-Maschine sorgen mit 180 kW (245 PS) Systemleistung und 480 Nm Drehmoment für sportliche Dynamik – der mittlere Verbrauch im Normzyklus (NEFZ) beschränkt sich auf 6,9 Liter pro 100 km (159 Gramm CO2/km). Bei der Entwicklung hat Audi grosses Augenmerk auf einen hohen elektrischen Fahranteil gelegt. Der sportlichste HybridSUV auf dem Markt fährt rein elektrisch bis zu einer Geschwindigkeit von 100 km/h und legt bei 60 km/h Tempo etwa drei Kilometer lokal emissionsfrei zurück. Mit der starken und leichten Lithium-IonenBatterie und vielen anderen Lösungen präsentiert der Audi Q5 hybrid quattro den jüngsten Stand der Technik. Der 2.0 TFSI und der Elektromotor des Audi Q5 hybrid sind als paralleles Hybridsystem unmittelbar hintereinander montiert – ein geradliniges Konzept von überzeugender Effizienz. Der Audi Q5 hybrid sprintet in 7,1 Sekunden von null auf 100 km/h, der Zwischenspurt von 80 auf 120 km/h im 5. Gang ist in 5,9 Sek. erledigt. Der Vortrieb endet erst bei 222 km/h.

Das LayeringPrinzip, bei dem einzelne Bauteile mehrere Funktionen übernehmen, wird sowohl im Interieur als auch im Exterieur umgesetzt. In die Scheinwerfer und die Heckleuchten integrierte Sensoren helfen bei der Beobachtung des Verkehrsgeschehens und der Umwelt, Antennen anstelle von Aussenspiegeln senden Informationen nach aussen und empfangen Daten für die Navigation. Zu den Neuerungen im Bereich der Anzeige- und Bedienkonzepte gehört ein erweitertes Head-Up-Display, das mit einer dreidimensionalen Darstellung von Informationen und Symbolen für eine optische Verschmelzung des realen Strassenbilds mit virtuellen Inhalten sorgt.

With seating for five adults and two children, as well as unprecedented storage space.Tesla will begin delivering the Model S in 2012 and will produce about 20,000 units annually at full production. Tesla will mass-produce the Model S at the Tesla Factory in Fremont, California. Tesla has taken more than 3,000 reservations for the Model S in North America and Europe.

The Model S has a floor-mounted powertrain, which results in unparalleled cargo room and versatility, as the volume under the front hood becomes a second trunk. Combining that with a four-bar linkage hatchback rear trunk and flat folding rear seats, the packaging efficiency gives the Model S more trunk space than any other sedan on the market. The Model S includes a 17-inch touch-screen in the dashboard with wireless Internet access and remote-programming abilities. It does 0-100 km/h in less than 6 sec. The Model S has three options for battery packs, allowing customers to select from 260-, 370- or 480-km per charge. The Model S can be recharged using a conventional 120-volt, 240-volt and some 480-volt outlets.

Als richtiges EVer™ wird der Karma ausschliesslich von zwei 201,5 PS Elektrotraktionsmotoren (403 PS insgesamt) angetrieben, welche direkt auf die Hinterräder wirken. Der Benzinmotor speist lediglich den Generator, der seinerseits die Elektromotoren antreibt; es besteht keine mechanische Verbindung zwischen dem Benzinmotor und den Antriebsrädern.

Heilbuttfilet auf Gize Pineapple-Coconut Zutaten für 4 Personen

Gourmetküche von Dean Kanuit

Den Ofen auf 110°C vorheizen. Das Backblech mit Backpapier auslegen. Die Ananas schälen und mit einem Küchenhobel in papierdünne Streifen schneiden. Die Streifen auf das Backblech legen und ca. 30 Minuten backen, bis sie oben trocken aussehen, die Streifen wenden und nochmals ca. 30 Minuten backen. Herausnehmen und zur Seite stellen.

Zubereitung Heilbutt 4 x 70 g frische Heilbuttfilets (Nordpazifik) in Würfel geschnitten 2 Flaschen Gize Pineapple-Coconut Fleur de Sel Grüne Kokosnuss 1 grüne Kokosnuss, das geleeartige Fleisch entfernt Geröstete Ananas 1/2 frische Ananas 250 ml Ahornsirup 1 Teelöffel frischer Ingwer Kaffernlimettenschaum 375 ml Gize Pineapple-Coconut 1 Kaffernlimettenblatt 125 ml Sahne (mind. 36% Fett) 1.5 Blätter Gelatine Ofengetrocknete Ananas 1 Baby-Ananas Garnitur Kresse Kaffernlimettenschaum Ofengetrocknete Ananas Gewürfelte grüne Ananas

Heilbutt: Heilbutt ins Wasser geben, Hitze reduzieren und ca. 5 Minuten, oder bis das Fischfleisch in der Mitte gerade nicht mehr durchsichtig ist, ziehen lassen. Aus dem Wasser nehmen und mit etwas Fleur de Sel würzen.

Ananas: Backofen auf 220°C vorheizen, Ananas in 1 cm grosse Würfel schneiden. Zusammen mit dem Ahornsirup und dem Ingwer in einer Schüssel vermischen und auf einem mit Backpapier ausgelegten Backblech ausbreiten. Ca. 25 Minuten, oder bis die Ananasstücke karamellisiert sind, rösten.

Kaffernlimettenschaum: Das Kaffernlimettenblatt mit dem Messerrücken zerstossen und zusammen mit Gize PineappleCoconut 10 Minuten auf dem Herd ziehen lassen. Limettenblatt herausnehmen und die eingeweichten Gelatineblätter hinzufügen. Rühren, bis die Gelatine sich aufgelöst hat, Sahne unterrühren und durch ein Sieb passieren. In einen iSi Whip (0,5 l) füllen und 2 N2O-Sahnekapseln dazugeben. Gut schütteln und vor der weiteren Verwendung 2 bis 4 Stunden kalt stellen.

Anrichten Den pochierten Heilbutt in einen flachen Suppenteller geben, ca. 6 karamellisierte Ananaswürfel um den Heilbutt legen und mit dem Schaum nappieren. 65 ml warmes Gize Pineapple-Coconut in die Schale dekantieren und das Wasser mit dem gewürfelten geleeartigen Fleisch der grünen Kokosnuss dekorieren. Mit der getrockneten Babyananas und der Kresse garnieren.

The next day, we’ll take off early in the morning for the Northern Suguta Valley, the most spectacular landscape in Kenya: deserts, salt lakes and lava fields with colourful rock sediments give the impression of being on another planet. The helicopter will be flying very low here with open doors to bring the landscape as much up close as possible. It will land every 45 minutes to visit special places on the ground and explore them on short walks. This wilderness has unique places that must be seen – only two of the highlights are Silali Crater and Hoodoo Valley with its imposing natural obelisks that were created through the erosion of millennia.

In order to avoid the midday heat, we’ll land at the Desert Rose, a small, comfortable lodge situated on the slopes of Mt. Nyiru. After some refreshments, we’ll explore the elephant trails with a guide on foot. In the evening, we’ll return to the Suguta Valley where thousands of flamingos meanwhile have gathered on Lake Logipi. The night will be spent at the Desert Lodge under a fascinating star-spattered sky.

The next day, we’ll turn north again to reach Lake Turkana, which is also called the Jade Sea for the intense blue-green colour of its water. It is one of the largest desert lakes in the world with a hot and dry climate. The Turkana Region is known for its palaeontological sites besides having more than a dozen craters, three of them filled with water.

Sibiloi National Park is located directly on the eastern shore of the lake and is home to some gigantic petrified trees towering up to 50 m high.

On the southern lake shore, there are numerous rock paintings of the indigenous people; they date back 2,000 years. David Coulson, an international photographer and chairman of the Trust for African Rock Art, is available for guided tours to these drawings; he can give much information on the original inhabitants’ background and way of life.

Diese Wildnis hat einzigartige Eigenschaften, die man gesehen haben muss – nur zwei der Highlights sind der Silali Krater und das Hudoo Tal mit den imposanten natürlichen Obelisken, welche durch jahrelange Erosion entstanden sind.

Um der Mittagshitze zu entgehen, landet man bei der Desert Rose, einer kleinen komfortablen Lodge, die an den Hängen des Nyiru Berges liegt. Nach einer Stärkung erforscht man mit einem Guide zu Fuss die Pfade, welche von den Elefanten genutzt werden. Am Abend geht es dann zurück ins Suguta Tal, wo sich mittlerweile tausende von Flamingos im Logipi See eingefunden haben. Die Nacht verbringt man in der Desert Lodge unter einem faszinierenden Sternenhimmel.

Am nächsten Tag geht es wiederum Richtung Norden zum Turkana See. Dieser wird auch als Jade See bezeichnet, da sein Wasser eine intensive blau-grüne Färbung aufweist. Er gehört zu den grössten Wüstenseen der Welt und das Klima hier ist heiß und trocken. Die Turkana Region ist berühmt für ihre paläontologischen Stätten und beherbergt mehr als ein Dutzend Krater, von denen drei mit Wasser gefüllt sind.

Der Sibiloi National Park liegt direkt am Ostufer des Sees und ist die Heimat einiger riesiger versteinerter Bäume, die bis zu 50 Meter hoch aufragen. Am südlichen Ufer des Sees gibt es zahlreiche 2000 Jahre alte Felsmalereien der Ureinwohner. Mit David Coulson, einem internationalen Fotografen und Vorsitzenden der Stiftung für afrikanische Felskünste, kann man eine Tour zu diesen Zeichnungen unternehmen und viel über die Hintergründe und Lebensweise der Ureinwohner erfahren.

Das heutige Camp bedeutet ein Eintauchen in die afrikanische Wildnis, wird es doch extra für den einen Abend am Seeufer aufgebaut. Erstaunlich dabei, was es trotz der Einfachheit für einen Luxus beherbergt. Nach dem Frühstück fliegt der Helikopter die letzten Kilometer über kenianisches Gebiet, ehe man die Grenze zu Äthiopien überquert. Das Land ist abgelegen, unzugänglich und daher für viele ein Rätsel und eine Herausforderung, welche zu entdecken sich bereits in den ersten Stunden lohnt.

Die erste Station ist das Lumale Camp im Herzen der Dassenech Stämme. Dassenech, Hamar, Suri, Merci, Karo und Nyagatom, dies sind alles Namen von Stämmen, welche hier in unmittelbare

Camp today will be an immersion into the African wilderness – being built on the lake shore just for this one night. Amazing how much luxury it offers with such simple means. After breakfast, the helicopter will fly the last kilometres over Kenyan territory before crossing the border into Ethiopia. The country here is remote, inaccessible and a mystery and challenge to most but the effort of discovery will pay off within hours.

The first stop will be Lumale Camp in the heart of the Dassenech tribal lands. Dassenech, Hamar, Suri, Merci, Karo and Nyagatom – these are all names of tribes living in the immediate vicinity of each other. The region is so remote that, except through the helicopter, the tribes have no contact to the modern world and continue living according to their ancient traditions. For all participants of this helicopter safari, it is an amazing experience and it will give much food for thought when sitting around the campfire later that night.

After sunrise, the rotor blades of the Eurocopter are swirling up the fine sand – a sign to continue the journey. The destination is Lalibela, a rural Orthodox Christian community known for its monolithic churches hewn into the rock. From the village, the journey continues upward – to Simien National Park. It is a high plane with spectacular scenery, ragged peaks, deep valleys and steep, up to 1,500 m precipices. Here you may encounter extremely rare species such as the Ethiopian wolf, gelada baboons and walia ibex, a wild goat nowhere else to be found on earth.

More than 50 bird species inhabit the park including the lammergeier or bearded vulture with its 3-metre wing span. Before getting to the lodge, the helicopter will land on a flat mountain top offering a breathtaking view of the scenery and the canyons – a comparison to the Grand Canyon is quite appropriate.

Nach dem Sonnenaufgang wirbeln die Rotorblätter des Eurocopter den feinen Sand auf – das Zeichen, dass die Reise weitergeht. Das Ziel ist Lalibela, eine ländliche, äthiopisch-orthodoxe Gemeinde, die durch ihre aus dem Fels geschlagenen monolithischen Kirchen bekannt wurde. Von dem Dorf führt die Reise weiter in die Höhe – in den Simien Nationalpark. Eine Hochebene mit spektakulären Landschaften, gezackten Gipfeln, tiefen Tälern und bis zu 1500 Meter steilen Abgründen. Hier findet man auch äusserst seltene Spezies, wie den äthiopischen Wolf, die Gelada Paviane und die Walia Ibex, eine Wildziege, welche man nirgendwo sonst auf der Welt findet. Mehr als 50 Vogelarten bewohnen den Park, darunter auch Lammergeier oder Bartgeier mit 3 m Spannweite. His aunt where he stays had warned him: «Such concerts don’t start until nine o’clock at night, never on late afternoons.» He knocks. An employee opens asking him what he wants. «I want to hear Ella Fitzgerald sing, I’m a pianist,» he bubbles out.

«Ella won’t sing until later,» the woman responds.

Whether he knows any of her songs, she asks.

«Sure, ‘A-Tisket, A-Tasket’, I can play that on the piano.» The woman lets him in and invites him to show his skills. She is ninth in the 37metre all aluminium breed, whose forbear was delivered in 2004. The tenth yacht in the 37m semi-displacement family, Y/N 15437, is due for delivery in the summer of 2011. PERLE NOIRE is an all-aluminium hard chine vessel with the ability to reach a maximum speed of 31 Knots powered by two MTU 16V 4000 M90 diesel engines. Styled by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, her sleek and elegant lines are particularly attractive in this Super Jet black hull.

Her interior designer, Gabriel Bernardi of London Interior, who conceived a timeless elegant dĂŠcor for PERLE NOIRE, explains: ÂŤMy inspiration for this interior and most of my interiors in general, is this incredibly sophisticated era between the two world wars, where style and entertainment took position over outward displays of wealth. Craftsmanship, style, beauty and above all charm were important ingredients to life and people had an aesthetic

appreciation and were rarely vulgar. The boat has been built and fitted out with the family’s comfort in mind, and as such every effort has been made to achieve a finish and level of comfort way above standard boat-building specifications. In place of the standard, fixed joinery, handmade, free-standing furniture has been used, all made by British cabinet makers, using traditional techniques. The light fittings were all handmade in either England or France; the bedspreads were custom made using fine Scottish cashmere, superior-grade Irish linen was used throughout and even the cutlery was commissioned from a prestigious London cutler. In short, no detail was overlooked in pursuit of excellence and in order to meet and exceed the client’s expectations.»

Vom 18. Februar bis zum 15. März 2011 zeigte die Galerie Gmurzynska, St. Moritz, Kunstwerke von Sylvester Stallone. Diese Ausstellung in der Galerie Gmurzynska war eine Retrospektive, die das gesamte Werk des Künstlers beleuchtete und die verschiedenen künstlerischen Phasen des Actionstars dokumentierte.

At that time, he used graphic lines and gaudy colours, yet in a very illustrative way.

The change came around 1989-90. He immersed himself more deeply, occupied himself with contemporary art and studied artists like Picasso, Gerhard Richter and Anselm Kiefer. He also dealt with the abstract works by Mark Rothko and developed his very own style: profound expressionist works including defamiliarized self portraits and word plays.

Ich hatte dieses andere Universum eines Filmstars betreten, wo man mich als eine Filmfigur betrachtete – als Rambo und Rocky, als ein Held, und meine eigentliche Identität war nebensächlich. Und das war irgendwie interessant. Da fing ich an, eine Bilderserie über andere Schauspieler zu malen, die zwei Gesichter tragen mussten. Ich malte ihre Filmcharaktere, ihre Masken. Und ich malte meistens eine Uhr im Bild, um anzuzeigen, in welchem Stadium ihrer Karriere sie sich befanden. Bei sechs Uhr was das Bild einigermassen optimistisch. Bei elf oder zwölf Uhr zeigte sich der Preis, denn die Filmindustrie einfordert.

Investing is not only a matter of financial expertise, but also of understanding and actually feeling what we invest in. Warren Buffet does not say anything else when he describes his investing philosophy.

The difficulty comes from putting it in practice.

Applying the «I only invest in what I understand» axiom of the Sage of Omaha is slightly complicated when it comes to concrete action. Imitation naturally comes to mind. However, mimicking the investment strategy of Berkshire Hathaway, the group managed by Buffet, is an option… reserved to a happy few. Negotiating special investment rights in Swiss Re or Goldman Sachs with their Chief Executive Officers is only reserved to privileged investors. Indeed, some of the biggest financial successes of the Warren Buffet were convertible debts – which are not accessible to common investors.

What would be an alternative strategy? Capitalizing on the advice of people who actually know. This might be more difficult than expected. For example, bankers or financial analysts generally «push» pre-packaged products to their clients. They certainly will not take any risk - and hence their advice carry very little potential return. The goal of a banker is first to keep his job and to get a bonus – which he will get mainly because he is still around when it is paid in March. Hence his recommendation will be to buy with the crowd, as «nobody was ever fired to have recommended to buy IBM».

The group of knowledgeable people is nor composed of journalists, who actually just repeat and echo market noises. As the financial wisdom puts it: «when taxi drivers recommend to buy a financial asset, it is time to get out of the market». Journalists are the ones who are listened by taxi drivers (or by hair dressers, manicures, masseuses,…). They are hence the closest expression of what to actually avoid when it comes to investing.

To whom to turn to then? People who know, but actually do not know that they do. Said differently, these individuals are able disclose a practical knowledge for no other purpose than establish and share a common understanding; and with the obvious interest of actually either living by or comply with a certain number of values and beliefs. These individuals are called trend setters, early adopters or disseminators. Above all, they are a source of a rich and unbiased – if maybe partial – knowledge about our modern world.

Rule number 1: ask the teenagers Who is then delivering an unbiased perspective on emerging trends, products and brands? Teenagers. Parents often complain about how expensive teenagers’ tastes are, but this can turn out to be also a signal to start to invest in these brands. Besides brands (for example in drinks, see Figure 1), trends are maybe an easier way to address mid to long term investing purposes. Teenagers declare that their purpose is to «have a better work-life balance than their parents. They have high expectations for their free time» (European Youth Trend Report 2009).

Indeed, teenagers spend a lot of time with their friends, either eating out/drinking out, at the movies, doing sports, watching TV or listening to music, doing homework or shopping.

This means that their strong leisure orientation helps them identify new trends. Nevertheless, «young people can no longer be defined as an age group, a culture, a music style, a picture, a story... A fragmented society has complex cultures. Young people regularly switch cultures and mix different cultures simultaneously.» This means for the investor a permanent attention and an ability to take rapid decisions and quite a high risk appetite – but also solid potential rewards (see Figures 2 & 3).

Studies have regularly shown that teenagers investing in their tastes on the stock exchange have been regularly beating the top Wall Street analysts. Most recently, Uruguayan high school students from Economics & Finance classes at the British and American Schools of Montevideo have generated a 97% and a 72% return respectively on Apple and DirecTV by smart trading and stock selection.

The issue is: even though a consumer and an investor are the same person, they barely reunite in the same thought. Academic research have found that the human being is actually thinking differently as a consumer or as an investor. An investor thinks differently if he handles money he has earned, inherited, found in the street… or if he handles the money of somebody else.

Actually, it seems that one of the biggest challenges to everyone’s investment skills is actually intelligence. When it comes to stock picking, instead of listening to emotions, impulses and feelings and try to make sense out of it, the consumer-turned-investor tends to rationalize,

Rather, the investor should pick up the companies which have successfully drawn his attention as a consumer over the course of the past six to twelve months. That should provide guidelines to actually select companies which have been able to generate a steady sales increase.

Rule number 3: «on the long term, we are all dead» (J. M. Keynes) What if the guts remain silent? Said differently, the consumer instincts of the investors have turned out to be frugal and compliant with a sustainable development approach.

There lies a different perspective, which is more focused on lifecycle and long term. The perspective of decline is increasingly managed by the ageing Swiss population. Coming to mind is healthcare (pharmaceuticals, hospital chains and managed care), which is a traditional investment sector in Switzerland.

However, being a «senior» is actually a source of renewed health and happiness.
