Aftera45-7win,ourUnder16Rugby teambecamethecountyrugby champions.TheUnder15teamfollowed suitandalsobecamecountychampions aftera28-21win.
OurKeyStage3 swimmingteamwonthe Leicestershireand RutlandCounty SwimmingFinals.
LGSpupil,Oliver,hasbeen selectedtorepresent PentathlonGBatthe upcomingUnder17and JuniorEuropeanand WorldChampionships.
PupilsfromLoughboroughGrammarSchoolproudlyrepresentedtheLoughborough SchoolsFoundation,alongsideLoughboroughHighSchoolandFairfieldPrepSchool,at the2025WorldSchoolSwimChampionships.Theevent,whichwasheldfrom9–11May, tookplaceattheAquaticCentre,QueenElizabethOlympicParkinLondon–atrulyworldclassvenue.
Thisprestigiousinternationaleventbroughttogetherover40schoolsfrommorethan10 countries,offeringyoungathletesararechancetocompeteintheworld-famousOlympic poolusedduringtheLondonGamesin2012.Thechampionshipsshowcasedbotheliteand performancelevelcompetitionalongsideglobalcamaraderie,withswimmerssharingnot justlanes,butunforgettableexperiences.
TheFoundation’steamincluded23pupils:sixU11boysandfiveU11girlsfromFairfield Prep,fourU13girlsfromLoughboroughHighSchool,andeightboysfromLoughborough GrammarSchoolacrosstheU13andU15categorieswithsomeoftheswimmersmaking finals,postingpersonalbestsanddemonstratingexcellenttechniqueanddetermination.
OurU15boysteamwontheoverallteamevent,anincredibleachievement.Theyalso placedthirdinthe4x50mmixedfreestylerelayandsecondinthe4x50mindividualmedley relay.WewerethrilledtowitnessZacwingoldintheNationsRelay,helpingEnglandswim tovictoryagainstsixothernations.Othernotableracesalsosawourpupilsplacefirstin boththe50mandthe100mbreaststroke.
Butitwasn’tjustallaboutmedals.Atruehighlightofthetripwasthecultureofteamwork andmentorship,witholderpupilsguidingandsupportingyoungeronesbothinandoutof thewater.Whethercheeringfromthestandsorhelpingeachotherprepareforevents,the teamembodiedthevaluesofsportsmanship,leadershipandunity.
Outsidethepool,pupilsexploredLondon,navigatedtheUnderground,stayedinCanary Wharf,andenjoyedateamdinneratPizzaExpress awell-earnedcelebrationafterlong days,includinganeleven-hourSaturdayspentpoolsidewith6amstarts.
AhugewelldonetoallwhotookpartandrepresentedtheGrammarSchoolwithpride, sportsmanship,andenthusiasmthroughoutatrulymemorableweekend.
ThreeLoughboroughGrammarSchoolpupilswerenamed winnersofEastMidlandsAirport’sFlyinginTheFuturedesign competition,withtwootherpupilschosenasrunnersup,outof afieldofover120entriesfrom18schools.
Looking60yearsinthefutureintheircompetitionentry,the innovativewinningsubmissionshighlightedideasaround sustainabilityandthedifferent,futuristicwaysthatplane designscouldbemademoreaerodynamictoreducefuel consumptionwithoutaffectingtheaircraft’sspeed.
Allwinnersandrunners-upwerealsoinvitedtoanexclusivevisit toEastMidlandsAirport’seducationcentre,Aerozone,where theyhadtheinsightfulopportunitytoexploretheworldof aviationandtakepartinarangeofinteractiveactivities, includingworkshopsandsimulatorexperiences.
ProceedingsbeganwithadisplayfromtheCorpsofDrumsandaparadeaccompaniedbythe LoughboroughSchoolsFoundation’sSymphonicWindBand.CaptainCooperreceivedthe GeneralSalutebeforeoverseeingeventsshowcasingtheskill,discipline,andcommitmentof thecadets,includingadrillcompetition,theCadetGunRun,andprizegiving.
CaptainCooperhasenjoyedaremarkablemilitarycareersincecommissioningintotheRoyal RegimentofArtilleryin2016.HerserviceincludesNATOoperationsinEstonia,leadership roleswithintheKing’sTroopRoyalHorseArtillery,andceremonialdutiesofnational significance.
“ItwasatremendoushonourtowelcomeCaptainCooperbacktoLoughborough SchoolsFoundation,”saidMajorBenWard,ContingentCommander.“Herjourneyisa powerfulexampletoourcadetsofwhere,withtherightamountofdedication, determinationandleadership,theirCCFjourneycouldlead.”
AlvinLiu(LGS2024)joinedLGSasaboarderinYear 11andspenttimeinbothboardinghousesmaking fondmemorieswithfriendsontripsorganisedby theboardingcommunityincludinggo-karting,city breaksandwatchingaManchesterCityFootball match.Inhisfinalyear,Alvinwasawardedtherole ofDentonHouseCaptain,whichhedescribedas “fulfilling”,beinginvolvedinhelpingtomake decisionsaroundtheboardingexperience.“Itis comfortingknowingthatIhaveplayedarolein improvingboardinglife,”saidAlvin.
AlvinwasanintegralpartoftheLGSShooting TeamandwonSilverintheSeniorTeam6-yard Sporterclass(sportingrifle)atthe2024British ShootingSchoolsChampionships.Hewasalsoa partoftheCCFRAFcontingent,whereheplayeda keyroleinLGSbecomingtheAirSquadronTrophy nationalchampions(2023-24).
InYear13,AlvinbecametheLeicestershireSchoolsUnder20100mchampionandalsobroke thelong-standing100mSchoolRecordonSportsDay.Thepreviousbestof10.90–firstsetin 1960andmatchedin1967,1983,1985,1987and1988–wasfinallybeaten,withAlvinsetting anewrecordof10.87.
HereflectsonhowhistimeatLGShelpedgivehimindependenceandkeycommunication skills,aswellasdevelophisinterestinsportanditsinteractionswiththebodythroughthe subjectshestudied(Biology,Chemistry,PEandMaths).
IlikedthesportingcultureintheSchool,wherenotonlywas therealargevarietyofsports,butmyclassmateswerealsovery supportiveofeachother.AlargepartofdoingthecourseIamin nowisduetothepassionIdevelopedintheschoolforsport.
AllofthisactivityhelpedprepareAlvintostudySport andExerciseScienceatLoughboroughUniversity, wherehenowtrainsextensivelyasasprinterwiththe athleticsteam.Hissuccesshascontinued,ashe recentlymedalledintheBUCS(BritishUniversities& CollegesSport)IndoorAthleticsChampionshipsfor the60m.
Whenaskedwhatadvicehewouldgivetoboarders atLGS,hesaid:“Trysomemoreextracurricular activitiesthatmaypiquetheirinterests,andifyou havesomethingthatyouarealreadyinterestedin, keepatit.Consistencyiskey.Theschoolprovidesa lotofco-curricularsthatallowstudentstodevelop skillsoutsideofacademics.”
