IthasbeenafantasticyearinSchoolHouse.Ithasbeengreattoseetheseniorboyssettingagood exampletotheyoungerboysandallboardersgettingonsowellduringorganisedactivitiesand tripswhichhasbeenaparticularhighlight.Wewishourolderboarderstheverybestastheyleave theboardinghousestofurthertheireducationattopUniversitiesandduringourrecent 'Champagnebrunch'forourYear13leavers,wecelebratedtheirachievementsincludingtop awardsinPhysics,MathsandChemistryOlympiadexamsaimedatstretchingthebeststudentsin thecountry.Wealsorecognisedhowtheyhaveallgrownintoconfidentyoungmen,having arrivedatLGSafewyearsearlier,nowreadyforthenextstageoftheirlives.
Wehaveenjoyedanotherproductiveandhappyyearwithourboardingcommunitywhohave joinedusfromGeorgia,Montenegro,Ukraine,China,Ghana,EnglandandHongKong.Mypersonal highlightoftheyearwasourtriptoChatsworthHouseinnearbyDerbyshire,whichwaspartofour ‘CulturalProgramme,’wherewewereallimpressedbythefamousChristmasdecorations.

DentonHouseandwewishourYear13boardersthebestof luckfortheirexamresults.Theycurrentlyholdoffersto studyatmanywell-respecteduniversities,including ImperialCollegeLondon,TheUniversityofManchester, UniversityofCambridgeandLondonSchoolofEconomics.

CongratulationstopupilsinYear9whotook homethetitle‘BestDesignedCar’fortheir entryof‘HeronsMotorsport’intothe Scalextric4Schoolsfinals.Ourteamspresented theirworktojudgesbeforeracingtheir personallydesignedvehiclesagainstother schoolsfromacrossthenation. OpentoallUKsecondaryschools,colleges,and educationalorganisations,Scalextric4Schools intendstoencourageyoungpeopletoget involvedintheSTEMindustry.Thecompetition aimstohelpfosterthekeyskillsneededwithin theworldofmanufacturing,fromCADdesign andtechniquetoidentifyingeffective modificationsandworkingwithinateam.
We’vewitnessedanunprecedented cricketachievementthismonth,having beencrownedLeicestershireCounty ChampionsateveryagegroupfromU12 toU15intheTeamLeicestershire competitions.Thiscleansweepacrossall juniorlevelsmarksahistoricmomentfor theSchoolandhighlightsthestrengthin coachingexcellenceandsporting ambitionatLoughboroughGrammar School.
Wewelcomedtwoinspiringindustry professionalsfromtheworldsoftheatre andfilmtogiveourpupilsaninsightinto careersincreativearts.Talkingfrom experience,thespeakersfocusedontheir careerpathways,industryadviceand networkingbeforeofferinganinteractive Q&Asession.
Musicpupilsheardfromalum,Ben-afinal yearMusicandSoundRecordingstudentat theUniversityofSurrey.Sharingstories abouttheartistshe’sworkedwithandwhat it’sliketostudyabroad,itwasafantastic opportunityforourpupilstolearnfrom someoneelse’sfirsthandexperience.

Acrossthetrackandfieldevents,pupilsdemonstrated theresultsoftheirhardworkandtrainingatSportsDay. TwostandoutmomentscameintheformofnewSchool recordssetbyourtalentedYear8boys.Ibthihasetanew HighJumprecordwhilstWilliamexcelledinthe300m race,settinganewrecordof46.56seconds.TheLong Jumpeventalsogeneratedsomefantasticresultsas SeniorLongJumpwinner,Alex,setadistanceof4.58m andIntermediateLongJumpwinner,James,jumpedan incredible5.06m.
Whenitcametothefinalstandings,therewereonly36 pointsbetweentheHousesinfirstandfourthplace. PulteneyHouseclaimedthe2025SportsDaychampions titlewithatotalof544points.Inaspecialcelebration assembly,winnersoftheVictorLudorumTrophiesand eventwinnerswerepresentedwiththeirtrophies.
DuringLGSLearnerWeek,lessonswerefocused aroundproblemsolvingaspupilsembarked uponengagingchallengesacrossarangeof subjects.
InD&T,pupilswerechallengedtocreateapingpongballlauncher!Presentedwithalimited numberofmaterials,pupilsworkedinteamsto design,buildandtesttheirdevicesinonlyan hour.InGeography,theboyswereoutdoing microclimatesfieldworkaroundSchoolto investigatethebestlocationforaweather station!
Bringingtogetherpupils,theirfamiliesandourteamof dedicatedstaff,ourannualPrizegivingeventisaprestigious celebrationoftheacademicprogressandhardworkofour pupilsthroughouttheyear.
Year9pupilandboarder,Tyler,receivedthe‘Prizefor Progress’atthisyear’sevent.Theawardwaspresentedto himbythisyear’sguestspeaker,RichardMerriman,whois analumofLoughboroughGrammarSchoolwhowentonto playcricketprofessionallyforseveralEnglishteamsbefore ultimatelybecomingaHeadmaster.

Fourtalentedmusiciansattendedabespoke masterclassattheCoachHousePianos ShowroominJune,alongsidepupilsfrom LoughboroughHighSchool.HostedbyCoach HousePianos,theexclusiveexperiencewas ledbyprofessionalpianist,GarethOwen, DeputyHeadofKeyboardatGuildhallSchool ofMusicandDrama,whohasperformedboth asasoloistandasachambermusician.
Theyoungmusicianstooktothestagetoplay theirpiece,preparedspecificallyforthe opportunitytoreceivetailoredfeedbackfrom Gareth,uponapristineBösendorferGrand Piano.Garethworkedwiththepianiststohone theirskillsandthebespokemasterclass focusedontechnique,tempo,rhythmand melody.Askingquestionssuchas‘whatarethe mainchallengesforyou?’and‘whatdoyouwantyouraudiencetohear?,’Gareth challengedthepupilstothinkmorecriticallyabouttheirmusic,channelingmore creativeexpressionintotheirwork.
IthoughtGarethwasreallyknowledgeableandreallyinteresting.He encouragedmetobringoutthelightnessinsomeareasofthepiece andthedarknessofotherareastotryandgiveabitmorecontrast.
