Autumn has arrived at LGS
October 2025
As the clocks go back and the nights draw in, it’s safe to say that Autumn has officially arrived in Loughborough, illuminating our campus in a glow of orange and red. The first half of the Autumn term has also brought with it a jam-packed schedule of events. From our boarder's’ trip to Cambridge to a bespoke workshop with professional pianist, Harry the Piano, and a fantastic harvest collection, there’s been lots for our boys to get involved with.
We’re delighted to share that, this month, our Sixth Form Centre was named a regional winner in the Best Public or Community Building category in the LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Building
Excellence Awards 2025 and therefore shortlisted for the grand finals. The awards celebrate outstanding design, construction quality and community impact in the built environment. The space offers flexible study areas, collaborative working zones, and quiet reflection spaces, all supporting our commitment to nurturing self-motivation, intellectual curiosity and leadership skills among Sixth Form students.

Uncovering Cambridge’s Culture
Boarders enjoyed a wonderful visit to Cambridge which included punting on the river Cam, travelling along 'The Backs' with famous views of the colleges, under the Bridge of Sighs and the Mathematical Bridge. This was followed by free time to explore the iconic market square and medieval streets lined with boutique shops.
The undoubted highlight of the trip was gaining VIP access to the Headmaster's alma mater, King's College, where they were welcomed to hear the world-famous choir in the magnificent chapel, with its awe-inspiring stained glass and fan vaulted ceiling. We were delighted to be able to meet up with LGS alumni who are current students at Cambridge University during the visit. What greater way to inspire our boarders?
Huge thank you to our families for their generous donations to the Harvest Festival collection. Local Loughborough charities, Junction Church Soup Kitchen and John Storer House collected the produce which will make a big difference within our local community.
The harvest festival donations mean a huge amount to us at Your Store. They help us keep shelves stocked with essential food items and support local people through tough times. The cost of food continues to rise, but the generosity of your school community shines even brighter, reminding us how powerful kindness can be.

Promoting Musical Excellence
Alongside Loughborough High School, pupils enjoyed an interactive workshop with talented improvising pianist Harry the Piano this month.
We were delighted to welcome Harry to our music school who delivered an engaging session focused on improvisation and composition, and reassured pupills that they cannot go wrong when improvising!
Alongside developing their confidence in performance, this fantastic opportunity taught them that their instinctive intuition is key to conveying a sense of authenticity and enjoyment through their playing.
Counselling and Pastoral Care: Supporting Pupils to Excel in Education and Beyond
Taking place on 10 October, World Mental Health Day shone a spotlight on the the importance of learning to cope with life’s challenges. This is a vital part of a well-rounded education, enabling young people to develop into emotionally resilient adults.
Hilary Foster, Counsellor at Loughborough Grammar School, has a strong understanding of the education system having previously held the role of Deputy Head at a large secondary school in Leicester. This first-hand insight into the potential of school life to conflict with outside issues or cause additional stress gives Hilary a unique perspective when it comes to providing counselling support for pupils.
