Meet our Boarding Staff
IhavebeenatLGSfor25yearsafterinitiallybeingappointedasa ChemistryteacherinSeptember2000.Ihaveheldseveraldifferent rolesduringmytimehere,havingbeeninvolvedinSchoolcricket andtheCombinedCadetForce(CCF).WhilstIhavebeen HousemasterofSchoolHousefornearlysixyears,Iwasinvolvedin boardingearlierinmycareeratLGSasaneveningtutor,whichI enjoyedthoroughly.
Ireallyenjoygettingtoknowtheboysduringtheirtimeas boardersandtakeprideinseeingthemdevelopinto'worldready' youngmenwhoarepreparedtotakethenextsteptouniversity life.Itisvitalthattheboysseetheboardinghouseastheirhomefrom-home,andsupportingthempastorallyandacademically duringtheirtimeheregivesmegreatsatisfaction.Wecelebratethe boarders'achievementsduringChapel,regularlybringthedayand boardingcommunitytogetherthrougheventssuchasthe InternationalDinnerandenjoyseeingtheboystakepartinthe widerangeofactivitiesonofferattheweekend.

PartofLoughboroughGrammar’sUnder16 badmintonteam,threeofourboardingpupils wontheTeamLeicestershireCounty Championshipsthismonth!
LoughboroughSchoolsSportisanexcellent cross-Foundationfacilitywhichaimsto provideopportunitiesforasmanypupilsas possibletorepresenttheirSchoolin competitiveeventsandwe’reproudtoseeour pupilsfulfillingtheirsportingpotential.
PopularsportsincludeRugby,Hockey, Badminton,BasketballandFootball.
LoughboroughGrammarSchool’sCombinedCadetForce(CCF)alsosawsuccessthismonth astheyrecentlysecuredfirstplaceattheprestigiousRoyalAirSquadronTrophy(RAST) NationalFinalsforthesecondconsecutiveyear.
CompetingagainstthetopCCFRAFcontingentsfromacrosstheUK,ourRAFsection,with cadetsfrombothLoughboroughGrammarSchoolandLoughboroughHighSchool, demonstratedoutstandingskill,teamwork,andresiliencetodefendtheirchampionship status.Theirstellarperformanceacrossmultipledisciplinesearnedthemthecoveted nationaltrophy,cementingtheirreputationasthebestRAFCadetForcesectioninthe country.
HeadmasterofLoughboroughGrammarSchool,MrJamesNeville,said:“Thisexceptional achievementistestamenttothededication,discipline,andteamworkofourcadets.To retainanationaltitleisnosmallfeat,andIcouldnotbeprouderofourstudentsfortheir commitmentanddetermination.Theirsuccessonthisprestigiousstagereflectsthehigh standardstheysetforthemselvesandembodiestheverybestofwhatwestriveforat LoughboroughGrammarSchool.”
Marchhasalsobeenabusymonthforthe LoughboroughSchoolsFoundation’sMusic andDramadepartmentsaswe’vewitnessed boththeSeniorSchoolmusical,MaryPoppins, andtheannualSpringConcertheldatDe MontfortHallinLeicester.
Themusicalbringstogetherpupilsfromallof theFoundation’sSeniorSchools,and performancestakeplaceacrossthecourseofa week.
Resultingfrommonthsofhardworkfrom everyoneinvolved,thecreativityofourcast membersandcrewshonethrough.Fromset designtosound,music,lighting,actingand choreography,theproductionculminatedina visuallyexcitingshowthatcapturedthe audience'simagination.
TheSpringConcertprovidedanother incredibleperformanceopportunityforour pupilsastalentedmusiciansfromourSenior Schoolstooktothestagetoshowcasesome incredibleorchestralpieces.
Aspertradition,thewholeofYear7fromboth LoughboroughGrammarandLoughborough HighSchoolwereinvolvedinanexcitingchoral projectwhichbroughttheeveningtogether wonderfully.
AtthebeginningofMarch,wewelcomed boardingagentstotheLoughborough GrammarSchoolcampustoexplorefirst-hand whatourSchoolhastooffer.
Agentsenjoyedafulltourofourfacilities includingourboardinghouses,sciencelabs, DramaStudio,ParkinSportsCentreand LoughboroughSchoolsMusic.Theywere accompaniedbypupiltourguideswhowere onhandtoanswerquestionsandtalkabout theirSchoolexperiences.
Thevisitalsoincludedtheopportunityto networkwithfellowagentsandLoughborough SchoolsFoundationstaffmembers,aswellas hearapresentationfromHeadmaster,Mr JamesNeville,andHeadBoy,Oscar. LoughboroughGrammarprovidesthemwiththe bestofbothworldsasasingle-sexschoolona co-educationalcampus.Ourpupilsbenefitfrom smallclassesandalearningenvironment designedtohelpthemperformtotheiracademic potential,aswellasaco-curricularprogramme whichseesthemshareopportunitiesand experienceswithourneighbouring LoughboroughHighSchool;atopindependent dayschoolforgirlsaged11-18.
Anintegralpartoftheco-educationalexperienceforboardersisLoughboroughSchools Music.Purpose-built,themusiccentreprovidespupilsacrosstheFoundationwiththe opportunitytoexploretheirmusicalpassions,whetherthroughtimetabledlessons,cocurricularactivitiesoramorededicatedapproach.
AweeklyarrayofensemblesandchoirsbringLoughboroughGrammarand LoughboroughHighSchoolpupilstogether,helpingthemtobuildskillsandcamaraderie. Withconcertsthroughouttheyearprovidingtheopportunityforourmusiciansto showcasetheirtalents,achievetheirverybestandperformatthehighestlevel,thisisa uniqueopportunityforourboystoexperiencethebestofbothworlds.
TwoLoughboroughGrammarpupils,whowereboardersinYear10beforebecomingday boysforYear11throughtoYear13,havethoroughlyenjoyedtheirtimeonourcampus. Year13pupilandpianist,Jeremy,said“Ifeelgratefulforthefacilitieswehaveinthis Schoolandthesupportwegetfromteachersandstaff.WehaveSteinwaypianos,oneof thetoppiano brandsinthe world,whichIget toplayeveryday.I havealsoreceived manyperformance opportunitiessuch asLunchtimeLive everyFridayand monthlyTasting Noteswherewe performinthe ParishChurch.”

FellowYear13pupilandGrade8xylophoneplayer,Stanley,sharedasimilarsentiment:“I enjoyplayingthexylophoneasIthinkthesoundcreatedbyitisdifferentfromother instrumentsandattheMusicSchool,Icanalwaysaskforaroomtopractisewheneverthey arefree.TheinstrumentshereareverygoodintermsofqualityandIhavelessonswheremy teacher,MrGeary,helpsmetopractiserhythmsandtechniquestoencouragemeto improve.Iamalsoapartofthewindbandandpercussionensemble;wepractisetogether asagroupandhavemultipleperformancesovertheyearwhichislotsoffun.”
BothpupilsalsolookbackfondlyontheirtimeintheGrammarSchoolboardinghouses, pinpointingthesenseofcommunityasahighlightoftheirexperience.Jeremyreflected,“I reallylikedtheconnectionbetweenmyselfandtheotherboardersandImadealotof friendsduringthattime.IalsoappreciatedthecareIreceivedfromtheboardingstaff, whichmeantthatIdidnotfeelsuchabigdifferencefrombeingaboardertobecominga dayboy.EventhoughInolongerliveintheboardinghouse,Istillgettomeetmyboarder friendsandteachersduringschooltime.Apartfromthat,it’sjustnormalschoollife.”
Similarly,Stanleysaid:“WhenIwasboardingwhatIenjoyedthemostwasthefriendsImet andthesupportIgotfromtheboardingstaff.Evennow,italwaysfeelslikeIamintwo communities–thedayboycommunityandtheboardingcommunity.Idon'tthinkthereare alotofdifferencesbetweenbeingadaypupilandaboardingpupil,themaindifferenceis justthatIhavetotraveltoschoolandreallythat'sit!”
Boardingstaffstrivetoensuretheboardingcommunityisthoroughlyintegratedintothelife oftheSchoolandco-educationalopportunities,suchasMusic,helptomakethisas seamlessaspossible.
