Meet our Boarding Staff I have been at LGS for 20 years, initially as a History teacher, then Head of History and now my main role is Housemaster of Denton House, looking after 32 boarders between Years 9-13.

I have been involved with boarding throughout my time at the School and, over the years, it has been a real privilege to get to know so many boys from all around the world. Being involved in boarding is so rewarding because you get to see the whole picture of the life of a pupil, from their academic progress to their sporting, music and drama achievements, and also to support boys with their emotional development. It is a real honour to see the progression of our boarders from young boys when they join LGS at the start of their academic journey to young men when they leave LGS, ready to go to a prestigious university.

The favourite part of my job is the weekends where boarders enjoy a healthy balance between some relaxation after a busy week at school and fun activities like badminton, football and basketball, as well as optional trips such as go-karting.

Cross-Foundation Events offer New Opportunities Our International Dinner, which took place at the very beginning of February, was a huge success as boarding pupils from across the Foundation enjoyed a threecourse meal, alongside an exciting quiz featuring questions relating to cultures around the globe.

The event is a fantastic celebration of Loughborough Schools Foundation’s boarding community and each boarding pupil invited a friend to join them, reflecting how deeply integrated our boarding pupils are into the life of our schools.

Since the beginning of the academic year, we’ve seen an incredible number of university offers arrive for our Year 13 boys, now totalling 367.

We’re also extremely proud to see that four of our pupils have recently received offers from the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford to study History and Spanish, Spanish and Modern Greek, Theology, and Computer Science.

All Schools within Loughborough Schools Foundation celebrated Culture Week during February. At Loughborough Grammar, lunchtimes consisted of a variety of pupil-led workshops, including ‘Make a Chinese Good Luck Symbol’, ‘An Introduction to Modern Greek’, ‘Scottish Highland Games’ and ‘Indian Music.’ The workshops provided boys with the opportunity to share their cultures with their friends and learn something new.

Boys also enjoyed a whole school assembly focused on cultural identity and a lunchtime menu filled with different cuisines to try each day of the week.

Our boarding pupils have continued to enjoy weekend trips and activities throughout February. A particular highlight was bowling!

Boarders competed against each other in groups and enjoyed playing arcade games afterwards. From pool to air hockey and driving simulators, it was definitely a trip full of fun.
