GRAPEVINE

On Monday, August 5, British Columbians will celebrate Civic Day, and Albertans will commemorate Heritage Day. Though the holidays share the same day, they do not share a similar purpose. In BC, the holiday is a time to celebrate the province’s birthday. In Alberta, the holiday is a time to celebrate cultural diversity.
As Lordco operates in both provinces, the holiday is a unique opportunity for us to bring the two purposes together and celebrate the company’s anniversary and culture. Fun fact: Civic Day, formerly BC Day, was established by the BC Government in 1974, the same year Roy Lord and Ed Coates opened the first Lordco store in Maple Ridge, BC.
From Comox, British Columbia, to Airdrie, Alberta, every Lordco location is unique. Some branches are small and run by a team that has been together for years, some are massive retail locations, and some branches are brand-new additions to the Lordco family. Like Alberta, we have a culture that is rich and worth celebrating.
So, tell us, what do you appreciate most about your Lordco branch? Is it your team, the location, or the customers? Or is it something less tangible? Send your comments to lklassen@lordcco.com, and we will share your thoughts in the next issue of the Grapevine.

Tavis Eaton - Edmonton #113
I was at the storage facilities across the street. When I forgot my keys to 3 of my 12 lockers it would have been a 1hr drive home and another hour back. I went to lordco to buy some bolt cutters when I remembered sitting next to my keys was my wallet. I was Really in a panic to get the stock in to storage And asked to see the manager Tyler I think his name was listened intently about the problem I was in asking to leave my ID so I could buy it the next day he chucked to himself then went in to the back . Upon his return he was carrying a decent size set of bolt cutters offered them on loan and asked for no money and no ID he said I was trustworthy. That made me happy to thank him cut off my locks and return promptly to return the item i borrowed. He was friendly charismatic and extremely nice I look forward to talking with him again.
You sir are a breath of fresh air your the nicest and well mannered employee there. Hope you like what my wife and I got you you rock !!

Balwinder Singh - Vancouver #66
Hello, I went to store #66 at 210 sw Marine Drive today and was assisted by a staff member, Bal. I needed a new fuse (something I have never changed before) and he walked me through what I needed to look up to find out what I needed. I am not very knowledgeable about cars and this is the first time I have been helped where I was not made me feel bad for not knowing what I was talking about.
It was just a fuse that I needed but Bal was kind, and patient, explaining what I needed to know without being patronizing. I walked out feeling a little more capable and empowered than I walked in. It will also make me more inclined to come in again to get parts and fix more small things myself.
Thank you.

Chelsea Amos- Osoyoos #77
We came in close to closing and it was super busy, we needed a hydraulic line made up. Chelsea stayed after hours to get the line made for us on a Friday. Great service….. I would recommend this place to everyone!!

Michael Shortland - Victoria #37
For my several, annual auto and boating engine and electrical needs, I’ve been really favouring this store as it has a great selection and quantity of oils, filters, electrical parts and cleaning accessories. The store is big and bright and very appealing too. Today, I needed a paint touch-up for my older Honda Motorcycle and I dropped into the parts counter at this Lordco. A very professional young man (Mike) helped by using a camera device on my bike to get the paint colour. I returned an hour later and the paint was ready. Mike definitely earned 5 stars for his friendly, helpful diligence. Thank you!!

July 5th is National Injury Prevention Day! This day is all about raising awareness for preventable injuries and spreading the importance of working, playing, and living safely. This month, we will be looking at National Injury Prevention Day to learn more about how to keep ourselves and each other safe!
National Injury Prevention Day was created to reduce preventable and predictable injuries in Canada. This day is sponsored by Parachute – A Canadian charity dedicated to injury prevention. The event aims to reduce the number of preventable injuries, which are currently the number one cause of death in Canadians aged 1 to 44. Each day, 48 Canadians die, and 634 are hospitalized due to injuries that could have been prevented. National Injury Prevention Day spreads information about safe practices and how to implement them in the hopes of giving Canadians safer, healthier, and longer lives! More information on National Injury Prevention Day can be found at parachute.ca.
Most injuries are caused by accidents, such as slips, falls, car crashes, chemical misuse, and overexertion. While they are called “accidents”, they are often caused by distractions, fatigue, and a lack of safety measures. Take these factors into account before you start on a task. While not every injury is preventable, many are. Taking precautions to prevent injuries could save your life or someone else’s! Keep safety in mind by promoting safe practices to those around you. When discussing injury prevention, we must also discuss mental health. This is because preventable injuries also include overdose and suicide. If you are worried about yourself, a friend, a family member, or a colleague, encourage them to talk to a healthcare professional and support them as best you can. If you are not sure where to start, take advantage of Lordco’s Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP). This program is available to all employees and can help with mental health, addiction, family and relationships, and overall well-being.
This National Injury Prevention Day, spread awareness about preventable injuries and how to avoid them. Talk to your employees, colleagues, and family members about potential dangers at home and in the workplace and take steps to reduce the risk of injury. Make it a habit to check in with those around you and try your best to support those you care about. Making risk evaluations and check-ins part of your routine could help you save a life! Plus, if you want to go above and beyond, wear green on July 5th to be an advocate for injury prevention!
If you’re looking for more guidance on how to stay safe, Lordco has you covered! Visit the Health & Safety tab on Lordco Connect at lordcoconnect.com to find more safety information. There are lots of resources available including health and safety guides, safety training videos, monthly safety topics, and safety refresher sheets. These resources can help keep you refreshed and up to date on your safety knowledge! Check out our health and safety resources to reduce your risk of preventable injuries!
JULY RECOGNITION
We are so thrilled to share that we have made a significant progress in our objective to uphold the highest safety standards. After months of dedicated efforts, rigorous training, and unwavering commitment, we have started with the compliance and implementation of the latest Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations. With special mention to Cranbrook, Trail and Armstrong Team who successfully passed the inspection done by TDG. This accomplishment clearly demonstrates our collective dedication to safety and operational excellence.
In Canada, the transportation of dangerous goods is strictly regulated under the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Act, 1992. The goal of TDG Regulations and Act is to minimize risk and promote public safety, property and environment while hazardous materials are being transported. The rules governing the movement of Dangerous Goods (TDG) are intended to guarantee the secure movement of hazardous items. Not only is TDG a legal obligation, but it is also an essential part of our commitment to environmental protection and workplace safety.
• Safety: Protecting our employees, the public, and the environment from potential hazards.
• Reputation: Strengthening our reputation as a responsible and safety-conscious organization.
• Efficiency: Optimizing transportation procedures and reducing the risk of incidents.
• Compliance: Adherence to laws and regulations while, avoiding potential penalties and related legal issues.
Our journey to safety excellence doesn’t end here. Sustaining our high safety standards requires consistency and constant improvement. We’ll continue to update our procedures to comply with the most recent laws and industry standards. We’ll conduct frequent awareness and training campaigns to make sure everyone is informed and ready.
Our sincere gratitude to each and every member of our Stores and Warehouse for their collaboration, hard work, and dedication in helping us to reach this goal. The foundation of Safety’s success is your commitment to safety. Stay safe and remember, Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Together, we can create a safer workplace!
