BRAEBURN BRAEBURN BRAEBURN BRAEBURN

A change is coming in the next few months. We will be updating and enhancing our front gate security system. This change is in response to some recent car break-ins and other nuisance incursions onto our property. Management and the Board are doing this for overall Member and Staff safety.

Yes, a gate will be inconvenient for us all. We are all used to tipping our cap to the security guard and blazing through the front entrance like we own the place.

We will be constructing two 12-foot gate arms and our security guard on duty will be tasked with running 2 vehicle entry lines -one for Members on the right, and one for guests on the left. Members will benefit from an automated chip reader and license plate reader that will lift the Member gate on arrival. To prevent backed up traffic on Bissonnet, the gate arms will be set far enough on to the property to accommodate 2 full size SUVs.

The new gate is in addition to our recent upgrade of night lighting around the parking lot and an update to some security cameras.

Our situation is not unique. Many clubs have recently installed front gate security. All clubs that install a new gate have experienced some level of growing pains, so please allow some extra time to get on property and start enjoying your time at BraeBurn.

Please watch these pages and official communications from Management over the coming months to be prepared for the change.

It is an Honor to Serve You,

BOARD CORNER 2

A MESSAGE FROM JODY BATDORF

GreensCommitteeMessage

Since the last that I have reported to you, a lot has changed Terry Gill has retired, and the very talented Aaron Engelhard has taken the reins Terry was very helpful in the yearlong transition, and the Board is eternally grateful for his service to the Club

So, we start a new beginning with a new course that, by all accounts, has been well received, and is prompting much activity in new Memberships. BraeBurn is now set to be on the offensive regarding initiation fees, Member services, and taking the next steps toward being the top tier of courses in Houston to play. The new course, and the positive effect of an increasing capital savings fund, is focusing the Board’s attention on what’s next Make sure to talk with your friends on the Board if you have input you want to share You can text me as well at 713-594-0110

Some of the issues we have been talking about at the Greens Committee are:

Tree ground cover: Our golf course architect, Tripp Davis designed the course so that the tree wells near the fairway are bare There are a significant number of Members that have wanted the Greens Committee and Superintendent to revisit this design intent Some are concerned about the look, while others feel the hardpan is very difficult to hit off Aaron is currently reviewing coverings that will address this issue, and he will be presenting alternatives to the Committee soon. Tripp is also beginning the process of forming a Standards and Design Intent Book for our Golf Course, which was agreed upon when he was retained.

Golf course etiquette: There has been some possible confusion about the rules pertaining to cart usage on the course To reiterate, carts can both enter and exit at designated area, marked by a white stake with a green top Please do not venture out into the rough, as the grass on fairways can withstand cart traffic better than the rough. Stay on the fairways other than entering or exiting the hole. Of course, fill in divots and ball marks on the green. Oh, and rake the traps leaving the rake halfway out of the trap.

Course closure in the summer: As I am sure all of you know, the course was closed for a little over two weeks recently Many clubs in the Houston area closed for extensive course maintenance during the summer for some amount of time We decided, at Aaron’s suggestion, to close nine holes at a time this year. There is talk at the Greens Committee level about possibly closing both sides for two weeks next summer. No decision or recommendation to the Board has been made. If you have thoughts on this, please call or send me a text

Aquatic Weeds in the lakes: The algae is being treated with copper sulfate and other algaecides as needed The plan going forward includes a more permanent fix to the Club’s outfall, and we are obtaining quotes for diffusers for the lakes.

Drainage lines: You may have noticed that on the fairways, in some cases, you can see drainage lines leading from the drains This settling is a very normal occurrence post construction Many of the drain lines were addressed during the closure, with Greenscapes Methods coming into repair these areas The sod was stripped off and additional sand was added and compacted. The sod was placed back on top and properly leveled. If future settling occurs, it will be addressed with topdressing sand.

I have an outstanding Committee this year, with Past Presidents, past Greens Chairman, a first lady of BraeBurn, Board Members past and present, the MGA President, the WGA President, and James Sivco himself joining as well, along with some very dedicated and smart people Thanks for your contributions

Membership at BraeBurn

T y the Members who referred friends and colleagues to help us grow our list to belong. The recent increase in the initiation fee added 20 names to the Stockholder waitlist, which is an incredible benchmark that is only possible through the support of our wonderful Members It is important to note that this exciting benchmark is something that has never been achieved in the history of the Club, so you as Members should be incredible proud of this wonderful achievement! Thank you for your support!

We are growing closer every day to achieving a waitlist to belong in the Junior category as well, which would be another exciting benchmark – a waitlist to belong in both the Stockholder and Junior categories!

As you may know, we are no longer offering Social Membership for sale, as we are holding those available Memberships for wait list spots, to ensure the waitlist to belong to BraeBurn can continue to grow. This growth will further establish BraeBurn’s prominence in our community

I am also excited about the newly established prospective Member vetting procedures established by the Membership Committee, including requiring additional Member sponsors, as well and Sponsor interviews, to ensure the Members we are adding to the BraeBurn family are truly wonderful people who will make BraeBurn and even better Club.

As always, if you have any friends or colleagues who want to join the BraeBurn family, please bring them out! Now is the time to convince them to join! There may be additional increases in the initiation fee over the coming months, so I encourage you to get your prospective Members in for a round of golf or dinner, or bring them to one of our many social events, to ensure they get a spot on the waitlist!

It would be my pleasure to introduce the BraeBurn Experience your future Member friends!

Did You Know?

Reservations are an essential planning tool for the Club.

If you are planning to dine at the Club with a party larger than six (6) Members and Guests, please make reservations in advance.

Reservations for parties of this size or greater helps the Club prepare in advance in terms of both food and staffing, to ensure your dining experience exceeds your expectations

In order to improve our Club communication for the entire family, please provide us with all adult family Member emails. Please review your email address in the Club website (scan the code) to ensure we have the proper information.

If we have an incorrect email address listed for you on the website, please email Tracy Gray, at tgray@braeburncc.com with your corrections or changes.

In order to provide better access control and security, every Member vehicle must have a Club issued parking sticker. This prevents delays at the front entrance and allows the gate guard to more easily recognize Members and their vehicles There have been several comments regarding Members not wanting a windshield decal. Should you fall under that group, we have a solution to offer you as well but you will still need to present the alternative upon entry If you do not have a current parking sticker contact Tracy Gray at tgray@braeburncc.com with year, make and model and she will facilitate securing your sticker.

A MESSAGE FROM Ladies Association President

The end of summer is always bittersweet Many parents look forward to school starting, and children back on their hectic schedules, but for those with empty nests, it means not much changes other than more traffic in the mornings (if that’s possible in this town!). The dog days of summer are still here and although we know the calendar is changing, the weather doesn’t seem to agree.

What we do have to look forward to when September rolls around is lots of activities brought to you by the BraeBurn Ladies Association!

For starters, Tuesday, September 13th, is the first luncheon of the Fall and you’ll be receiving your Evite soon. Come listen to the latest decorating ideas from Magpies, with locations in Bellaire and Sugar Land

On October 11th, our Fall Style Show (always a Members’ favorite) will feature beautiful clothes from Raspberry Rose, located in Rice Village. If you’re interested in modeling, send me an email and I’ll make sure it gets to the right people planning the event

The first Ladies’ Night Out will be held on Thursday, October 20th at 6:30 p m and will feature all things PINK in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Check your mailbox for the BBLA card that gives you all the information you need for the upcoming year of activities, and then RSVP for the September luncheon

BRAEBIRDS by JIM FRANK |

I looked for this bird for a while at BraeBurn because I’m from Missouri and this is the state bird of Missouri. It calls the entire eastern US home, from the Rockies to the Atlantic, and is a year-round resident in the southeastern US, Mexico, and south to Nicaragua

This is the Eastern Bluebird, a kind of thrush related to the common American Robin. It is small at 7” long from beak to tail, and is easily identified by its orange neck and chest and blue head and back If you are at BraeBurn and you see a small blue and orange bird, you have just seen an Eastern Bluebird

Interestingly, range maps show that they are not commonly seen inside the Houston Beltway, compared to outside the Beltway. In fact, there’s a distinctive lack of sightings in the BraeBurn area I saw my first one at BraeBurn in 2018 and then didn’t see another one for three years Now I see one almost every day as a large Bluebird family has taken up residence Look for them especially on hole numbers 12, 15, and 17.

Jim Frank joined BraeBurn in early 2016. He is a Member of the Greens Committee.
