Since the last that I have reported to you, a lot has changed Terry Gill has retired, and the very talented Aaron Engelhard has taken the reins Terry was very helpful in the yearlong transition, and the Board is eternally grateful for his service to the Club

So, we start a new beginning with a new course that, by all accounts, has been well received, and is prompting much activity in new Memberships. BraeBurn is now set to be on the offensive regarding initiation fees, Member services, and taking the next steps toward being the top tier of courses in Houston to play. The new course, and the positive effect of an increasing capital savings fund, is focusing the Board’s attention on what’s next Make sure to talk with your friends on the Board if you have input you want to share You can text me as well at 713-594-0110

Some of the issues we have been talking about at the Greens Committee are:

Tree ground cover: Our golf course architect, Tripp Davis designed the course so that the tree wells near the fairway are bare There are a significant number of Members that have wanted the Greens Committee and Superintendent to revisit this design intent Some are concerned about the look, while others feel the hardpan is very difficult to hit off Aaron is currently reviewing coverings that will address this issue, and he will be presenting alternatives to the Committee soon. Tripp is also beginning the process of forming a Standards and Design Intent Book for our Golf Course, which was agreed upon when he was retained.

Golf course etiquette: There has been some possible confusion about the rules pertaining to cart usage on the course To reiterate, carts can both enter and exit at designated area, marked by a white stake with a green top Please do not venture out into the rough, as the grass on fairways can withstand cart traffic better than the rough. Stay on the fairways other than entering or exiting the hole. Of course, fill in divots and ball marks on the green. Oh, and rake the traps leaving the rake halfway out of the trap.

Course closure in the summer: As I am sure all of you know, the course was closed for a little over two weeks recently Many clubs in the Houston area closed for extensive course maintenance during the summer for some amount of time We decided, at Aaron’s suggestion, to close nine holes at a time this year. There is talk at the Greens Committee level about possibly closing both sides for two weeks next summer. No decision or recommendation to the Board has been made. If you have thoughts on this, please call or send me a text

Aquatic Weeds in the lakes: The algae is being treated with copper sulfate and other algaecides as needed The plan going forward includes a more permanent fix to the Club’s outfall, and we are obtaining quotes for diffusers for the lakes.

Drainage lines: You may have noticed that on the fairways, in some cases, you can see drainage lines leading from the drains This settling is a very normal occurrence post construction Many of the drain lines were addressed during the closure, with Greenscapes Methods coming into repair these areas The sod was stripped off and additional sand was added and compacted. The sod was placed back on top and properly leveled. If future settling occurs, it will be addressed with topdressing sand.

I have an outstanding Committee this year, with Past Presidents, past Greens Chairman, a first lady of BraeBurn, Board Members past and present, the MGA President, the WGA President, and James Sivco himself joining as well, along with some very dedicated and smart people Thanks for your contributions
