THE CLUB AT SONTERRA

Golf Comments

“Wish more water features worked”

“Good improvements so far“

“Can't provide valid opinion. Most of my golf is played at Oak Hills C C. Looking forward to the dream of returning to a first class golf facility that is better maintained than any public facility“

“Improving but continues to need work in the fairways and the ladies tee boxes. Would like to have a short practice area that has more distance, better bunkers and not so wet“

“Getting better, improvements could be made on the driving range. Portable shade structure would be amazing!!!“

“Membership currently suspended for medical reasons “

“I am told it is getting better thanks to new ownership. I will give them time to correct many years of neglect. Driving range is very ugly sight. Attention to detail would help“

“Obviously deferred maintenance has put the new ownership behind and their commitment to improvement is seen. Would like to see the tee boxes improved (weeds, bare spots) along with the greens on both courses. The backside of #7 north is a perfect example of the issue. Should consider shrinking the size of some of the greens to address quality issues“

“There has been much improvement in the last 2-3 months. The difference in attention to detail and an actual budget to do maintenance is helpful. I realize there is much work to do, and hope to continue to see the advancement of the deferred projects that need to be taken care of, like bunkers, rough, and greens “

“The condition of the courses has improved recently. I am glad to see the effort and results.

The driving range area hasn’t been maintained well. The handrail desperately needs to be painted and a regular leaf blower should be used so visitors first impression is positive.

The locker rooms are old and unimpressive“

“i don't play golf so really I'm not sure about the above but where I live, the fairways look a lot better“

“New superintendent is making positive changes“

“I know the struggles that we have had in the past and see the improvements that are coming and love my club!! Below are my complaints.

1-Cart paths-I think that the price that I pay for the cart path fee is very high for the condition of our cart paths and there should not be a extra cost if my spouse rides with me. It doesn't seem like the money that i pay goes to any improvement for the cart paths.

These are the roughest cart paths in town. I have suggested to use a concrete grinder to bevel the edges on the joints to smooth them out. Some sections need to be replaced.

2-In my opinion the south bunkers are pretty good but some liners are showing. The north bunkers need some good sand.

3-I think the greens are good but have hope that the bad/black spots will be fixed.

4-The driving range is an eye sore and when i have a guest is always a major conversation of how unattractive it is.

5-Service is good but one of the biggest things is getting a set up before the food arrives and then asking for a setup. This is mostly in the bar.

I like that we have weekly specials that are good but some of the specials should be on the regular menu.

6-I don't monitor my invoice every month but when i do there are some charges on there that are not mine, in my opinion it is not worth my time to call in and dispute.

7-In my opinion there should be just a golf membership cost since i don't use tennis, gym or pool“

“Wold be nice to have all functions working at the same time“

“i wish we could get the ball washers back. condition of both courses is improving noticeably“

“First of all, I am very happy with the significant improvements of the golf course. It is truly impressive to see such a quick turnaround. New ownership and agronomist are due a lot of credit. I would like to see divot replacement sand placed on all par 3 tee boxes. Would also love to see more care given to the driving range. Obviously, the course takes precedent with water and resources but the driving range is an eye-sore and given it's proximity to the clubhouse any improvement would make the club look better“

“Things are rapidly getting better. Hiring McCarty was a blessing! The condition of the course compared to the summer of 2023 is light years better. Sorting out the water issue is huge. The improvement plans for the next 2 years are crucially needed to complete“

“Happy to see improvements!!!“

“Bunkers need sand, cart paths need help. Driving range is a disaster, red flags need to be brought back“

“I would like to bring my main customer and my sons more than once every 60 days. They pay for green fees, eat food and buy drinks. I would like to see exceptions for someone like my main customer that likes to golf and for my sons who may actually only come once a month. These folks pay full green fees, eat at the restaurant and buy drinks“

“I think we need better accommodations in restrooms and more choices of food at turn around area. Feel be more like country club style. Range seems to be closings early several times throughout the week. Chipping area needs to be larger and in a better place with real bunkers”

“Carts paths could use some repair in spots“

Golf Comments

“Only issue is some of the greens have patchy areas. Other than that they are in good shape“

“Headed in right direction“

“It’s improving. Thank you for the increased work and attention to detail. Please force riders in club carts to pair up. Incentivize private cart owners to pair up. Keep the courses in as good shape as possible. Please reevaluate the pin placement system. It doesn’t work. Overall this is the best Sonterra has been in a very long time“

“Improved bunkers and tees would be desirable. Water back on the 3rd hole of the north course!“

“Very shallow sand in bunkers is maddening; chipping area feels like an afterthought; course is turning around thankfully. General lack of water (to drink) on course is frustrating. What is going on with the locker rooms?“

“Would like to see better quality range balls, and a better quality chipping practice area “

“The junior golf program is amazing. The app should be able to set tee times and shouldn’t have to call the shop“

“In the past 6 Mos the Golf course has had dramatic improvements due to the water issues beingaddressed. I feel that by 2026 the courses should be in excellent condition“

“Greens have had problems since before summer of 2023 and some improvement (still have large holes). Bunkers stay flooded in morning after watering and wash sand out. Liners are now coming up due to machines being used to rake them and pulling it up. General course conditions have greatly improved with new director of agronomy “

Golf Comments

“I know we are undergoing long over due basic maintenance and increasing water supply. This was an absolute essential that many members were hoping for with new ownership. Many members had one foot out the door so I'm glad this is finally happening.

The dirt holes in a number of the greens need to be resodded asap even if it's with temporary turf along with the dead portions of the fairways. The course is still not in decent enough shape because of those issues to bring guest, clients, etc to play golf.

I know the course is priority one, However, the driving range has been the biggest eye sore for many years and could use a complete make over. This is the first impression many see when they arrive to the course. I understand drainage has always has been an issue but many updates can be made to level out the range, add grass, real greens to shoot towards while incorporating a drainage solution“

“I enjoy the two courses available at Sonterra and the monthly MGA golf tournaments. Zach, Austin, and Josh are helpful and I enjoy my interactions with them in the pro shop, range, and course.

The tee boxes need to be leveled on both the North and South courses. The prior fix for this issue did not resolve this problem and it still remains. The tee markers should also be square to the hole. The wooden tee marker logs on each box make a private championship course look like a public municipal course. A nice stone or metal replacement would improve the look immensely.

The trees on both courses need to be trimmed along the fairways. There is dirt underneath the umbrella of the trees and the lack of sunshine is resulting in grass not growing and balls having to be hit off of straight dirt.

The driving range is not a place I want to bring guests. It is not up to par for a country club. The hitting area is nice but there is no grass on the range. This does not allow for iron shots to be practiced with accurate distance control. When I hit a 7 iron it rolls 40 yds due to the lack of grass. The flags on the range should accurately reflect the conditions on the golf course for better practice. Large rakes should be made available at every bunker on both courses.

The North putting green has too much of a slope and does not reflect any greens on the course.

The beverage cart should always have Jack Daniel’s, ginger ale, and all items to make classic golf drinks like transfusions and John Daly’s, etc.

The men ’ s locker room desperately needs updating- flooring, furniture, tv, etc. The locker room is underutilized due to its lack of amenities and unappealing appearance. The carpet has a distinctly unpleasant odor“

“Greens have had problems since before summer of 2023 and some improvement (still have large holes). Bunkers stay flooded in morning after watering and wash sand out. Liners are now coming up due to machines being used to rake them and pulling it up. General course conditions have greatly improved with new director of agronomy “

“I see major improvements with the course conditions but it is still no where near good condition“

“need wells we have to work properly, drill 1 more new well and get maintenance headcount to at least 25“

“Zach is always helpful and supportive of our golf groups and SWGA; Antonio is supportive our Classic Affair; Nathan is awesome in his support of our lady golfers and many other areas. Thanks to these guys!!“

“We belong to another club in Park City, UT and the course conditions at Sonterra far very inferior. Their maintenance crew for one course is the same as ours for two courses “

“Chipping area is horrible“

“Therse scores are Vs other near-by courses recently played. Years of neglect is catching up. Slowly getting better“

“We have seen much improvement with the new owners but we have a ways to go. There is still many bare spots, especially on grass bunkers, glad the bunkers are raked each day but they are a mess and inconsistent, the bathrooms...what an embarrassment!!! The north bathrooms...just plow them down and start over. Then...when the handles had to be replaced because there were still holes and the holes were stuffed with toilet paper!!! Real Class!“

“Austin Carr and Tim Hobby are Great, Josh and others are very good. Management above that level I don't really know and that says a lot. I have been here 19 years. . They allow the 5/ 6 person groups. Money games, etc slow the pace of play. Appears to show preferential treatment. When I mentioned their response is that those e large groups play in acceptable 4 to 4.5 My thought is, That's too long most should play this course 3 to 3.5. Decisions to close range at will. Tee time should be more transparent. My opinion, most decisions are operational based vs providing a desired member experience. Easy things, Just keep the range open as the time the hours state unless weather dictates. Cant say how many times they close early etc. The entire member experience is lacking. Not the most friendly of senior managers. Actually, I am considering TPC. Not that much difference in cost but the membership experience is considerably better. I have been playing there as a guest quite often. Glad to see work on the courses being done. Too late in the game. Should have been something back to membership considering the conditions etc, but again not much thought by mgmt on ensuring a membership valued experience“

“Course bathrooms are DEPLORABLE!!! Dark, smelly, swelteringly hot.....so not even usable, public course bathrooms put these private course bathrooms to shame...“

“I have not played golf in quite some time. I hear from other members about the poor golf course conditions“

“Sonterra golf courses and club facility were in the worst shape they have ever been in at the time of the sale. Golf courses have improved from "worse than poor" to the current ratings given. Mike (Course Superintendent) has made improvements but it was so bad, it will take years to get back to truly GOOD courses. I have been a Full Golf member since 1993 and have seen all of the different owners - with each ownership change the courses and facilities declined (with the greatest decline under CBIGG). I have had leadership roles in both the SWGA and Board of Governors and have expressed much loyalty to this Club, but I have to admit that I came very close to pulling the trigger and moving my membership to another club this past winter/spring. Had things not improved immediately after the sale, I would have left. I hope the trajectory for improvement continues to be rapid - and I hope a significant amount of attention and capital expense is directed at the golf courses “

“My husband uses golf, I am tennis and fitness you need a NA field!“

Golf Comments

“I don't understand why Sonterra doesn't have a computerized tee reservation system, like every other private club of which I'm aware. See, e.g., Fair Oaks Golf Club“

“Overall the course has a long way to go to be the premier club b in San Antonio. I believe Mike has a good plan and has made significant progress and needs to keep getting the funds to execute his plan“

“Availability of Tee Times – having to call the pro shop and sit on hold while listening to horrible music is excruciating. Should be able to make tee times on the web and call to secure a time not taken on line.

Pace of Play – No “Course Advisors” or “Marshals” on the courses make pace of play an issue. Groups should keep up with the group in front of them and let faster groups through. Singles and doubles should have no priority on the course. Starters should try to join individuals and twosomes with other individuals and twosomes.

Restrooms – Our restrooms on both courses (especially the one on the North Course) are substandard for a country club. If management would take a field trip to Fair Oaks, Oak Hills, The Dominion, and The San Antonio Country Club to see their restrooms compared to ours, they would see why I rated ours poor.

Golf Course Maintenance – Mike McCarty with his assistant, Isidro is doing an admirable job and the two courses are greatly improved since his arrival. He has extensive experience in golf course maintenance and is a good leader of his team. Unfortunately, he is hamstrung by a lack of maintenance workers and equipment. We are in the middle of the summer golf season and the courses desperately require more workers using new equipment to make our courses comparable to local competing courses (Canyon Springs and the Quarry) and San Antonio's other country clubs“

“Getting better!“

Golf Comments

“These comments are being made with the observation that hopefully with new ownership conditions are changing. I have been a member since 1972 and DO NOT feel we get what we pay for in dues. Compliments to the new ownership on trying to get the course in the shape a "premier" country club should be. The bunkers and the rakes are horrible; some of the tee boxes are not in the condition they should be; and the fairways are getting better. There is not enough maintenance crew to do the work that needs to be constantly done, and I understand that even with the new ownership that problem still exists. Mike McCarty is definitely a step in the right direction and certainly is turning things around. The driving range is the best I have seen in a number of years in the teeing area, but the range can have better identification for yardage“

“Th courses are getting better thanks to the new management. Hopefully they will once again become what they once were. I remember when the north course was considered one of the best in San Antonio. Still the bad spots on the greens and the weeds around the greens need to be addressed better. I rarely have seen maintenance crews working on the course during the day. I believe the waste areas in front of many of the tee boxes are unnecessary. They make the courses look poorly maintained and are not esthetically a good thing. Tom Hill“

“Conditions of the golf course have improved since new owners “

“Conditions are improving“

“Trend toward a better golf course is excellent right now “

“Things are getting better for sure “

“The driving range is an eyesore “

“Could be vastly improved“

Golf Comments

“My husband golfs… I have heard him say it has improved a ton in the last couple months. The women ’ s restroom in the 19th Hole is old and barely work. It needs major help (as does the fitness/pool women ’ s bathroom). I can’t speak for the men ’ s room but I’ve heard it is better than the women ’ s “

“I have been a member for 34 years our Pro Shop is at a all time low“

“I love the weekly updates about the new course maintenance...I have full confidence that the course is on the way to be really good...”

“Availability of tee times is good, but being able to book online and see what openings there are online would be nice. Other clubs have that option. Much has improved with course conditions, hence the rating of good. A few holes still have further to go. Bunkers are very inconsistent throughout the courses, some almost unplayable, few rakes and many are deteriorating, leaving fiberglass shards. Women’s restroom at North course hasn’t had a consistently flushing toilet in years and the condition of the doors/handles with the trash filling in the hole is pretty bad. South restrooms are much better“

“Need to stop allowing members to make multiple tee times on the weekend and stop allowing 5somes“

“embarrassing“

“Since I became a member several years ago, the level of service (food and golf), have been average to fair. For a private facility, that is unacceptable. How do the new owners expect to improve on both when they have kept the same people as before on the staff?“

“Would love to see restrooms updated on the north course and craft beer on the bev cart“

“There has been significant improvement in both courses since the new ownership took over. However, there is still a lot to do. Grass in a number of fairways, areas on the greens with no or little grass, bare tee boxes especially on the North and wet areas in front of the greens with worker tire tracks in them all need to be worked on. The restroom on the North is a total embarrassment for any club much less a private club like Sonterra. You do know there is no power to that restroom?“

Golf Comments

“I downgraded my membership from full golf because the course has been mismanaged over the past 5 years or so. I finally had the time to play, but conditions forced me to play on city and military courses … instead of my own club. Private cart fees are exorbitant, with no maintenance of the cart paths. Love what they are now doing to the course … but probably not enough to recover from years of putting out an over priced, sub standard member experience. Plus … if you voice an opinion or concern … Ramsey and Gonzaba offer criticism and excuses instead of concern or solutions. Kind of makes some of us feel that we are just “tools” living in their kingdom. Happy to discuss. I am excited for the change of ownership, but with the retention of some team members, I am not convinced that it is not “ same shame, different name. ”

“Courses are in bad c=shape, no water supply in the course, only at half way houses, wnen we used to have several water reservoirs for comsuptio. Never a Marshal making sure pace of play is in good order. Marchal (jon) is the firendliest guy “

“Fairways and Greens Are Getting A Lot better. Overall, the condition of both courses is getting so much better“

“I understand there are plans to improve the overall course conditions, greens, and bunkers so I will not comment on those. 1) I think every tee box and driving range needs to be grated down to soil, leveled to HORIZONTAL, and sodded. 2) Perhaps broken tee collection trays will clean up the tees and allow more efficient mow times as I heard the broken tees have to be picked up prior to mowing. 3) Clean out the North ponds and get the water features working. 4) Spray paint inside cups white every day. 5) Supply more and better sand rakes so they are all the same. 6) Please inform membership how you want the rakes placed. 7) Improve the practice chipping green and area conditions. 8) Tree/shrub trimming: SOUTH - #3 trees in front of tee, #7 trees left side of fairway, #16 remove first tree right side of fairway a some on the left to make the tee sh; NORTH - #6 shrubs in front of tee so a right pin placement can be seen from anywhere on the blue tees, #15 not sure what to do here to have tee shot more receptive to a good landing area, #16 trees in front of blue tee left and right, #17 trees/shrubs blocking right side of blue tee. 9) Add very short tee box to both courses so the average senior lady can use a proper club for green approach shots. 10) I understand there is attention to cart over usage with new policies in the works. Police maximum speed, tire tread, underage driving, and using the cart paths for thru-traffic (primarily N 11 & 18) instead of taking the road. 11) Enforce dress code“

“Consider bringing back the red flags on the flagsticks“

Golf Comments

“Club maintenance and course conditions are improving. Hoping the new roof is a nice start on what needs to be done“

“Drink/food Cart service sporadic. Each restroom facility should always have a drink/food cart on duty at all times“

“The practice range looks like it's been bombed. It's been like that for years. Also, the lack of locker rooms at a country club is an embarrassement“

“We all know the issues we face and the gap that needs to be closed. You are addressing them. Please raise the priority of fixing the water features on #6 and #17 north. These make great impacts on guest and new members. Also, please address poor golf cart path surfaces. Some bumps and holes are embarrassing. We can do better…what are we doing with cart path fees?”

“Ratings are reflective of current conditions and do not incorporate the trajectory of improvements. I’m hopeful with continued work the conditions will continue to improve as they have over the spring and summer.

Pace of play could be better with some members allowing others to play through even if on pace.

I’d like to see online tee time booking.

I’d like to see improvements in the cart path in some areas (specifically the south course) given the fee paid monthly for private carts“

“The restrooms are always dirty, and the floors are disgusting“

“All areas mentioned above have room for improvement. It’s understood we are in a state of transition but time is of the essence. Members are anxious for results“

“Cart paths need some repair“

Golf Comments

“The greens and fairways are improving lately. The bunkers on the North are not good and after a rain others are unplayable. The sand on the North bunkers needs be enhanced. The practice area bunkers should include one with sand similar to the South bunkers“

“Please trim trees right side of South Course Hole 7 & 8 fairways“

“I am looking forward to the upcoming improvements. I have been impressed with the new agronomist, Mike“

“The fairways, greens, and bunkers have significantly improved“

“Getting much better with water well updates“

“Seeing improvements since New Greenskeeper started, and the rain has helped“

“There should be a drastic improvement in the quality of the Head Golf Pro, the PGA pro and a num,ber of the assisstant pros “

“The course is improving. It still has a long way to go. I am still not ready to bring friends to the club. The men ’ s locker room is embarrassing. I don’t see the level of service at the food establishments worth driving to the club to use (great for people who live at Sonterra). I am optimistic that the club will continue to improve“

“Continue to improve playing conditions. Course is in better shape today than has been in a long time. Appreciate the email updates from the greenskeeper“

“We love the starters and free water“

“Hoping for improvement“

Golf Comments

“Everything in Golf should be better“

“Hoping new owners keep their promises“

“Golf course is certainly getting better!!!“

Tennis Comments

“Women's locker room needs maintenance especially hot tub“

“Jenny and staff ar great with the tennis program. Pickleball on the other hand needs some help“

“Do not use tennis“

“Resurfacing of more courts. A central station for ice and towels. Built-in score keepers on every court. Better brands for women ’ s clothing in the pro shoplululemon, Alo, Wilson, Free People“

“We don't use the tennis courts. We use pickleball which is why I gave "good"

“Some courts in need of repair. Would like to see a better set up for food and beverages. Maybe up the service to more country club like experience. Better control and access of pickle ball courts. Complete some landscaping projects like at the gazebo at courts 4/5 and 10/11. That one section looks good, why not complete the other corner and ditto next to ice maker“

“Don’t play or use tennis courts“

“I dont play tennis but i hear great things about the program “

“The women ’ s locker room could really use some work and updates…“

“Registered a discrimination complaint against Jenny, now I am ignored completely. May we please have game counters. Friendlier staff, variety in pro shop, as a member why do we pay for member events? Kids answering phones are fine“

Tennis Comments

“Some of the courts further away from the tennis shop need to be re-surfaced. Pickleball needs to have the same consideration as tennis. We think there should be a Pickleball-only level of membership“

“We haven't utilized the tennis area; would like to but seems intimidating“

“Covering over 4 pickleball courts“

“Courts need to be resurfaced. Leaves are on courts. Clay courts are not being maintained. We are one of hw few that have clay and they are neglected“

“I don't use the tennis facility but plan to start utilizing the picked ball courts“

“I don't use the tennis courts so I don't have an opinion on these questions“

“Overall, courts are mostly in good condition. Courts 6 & 7 and the bak row of courts could use some TLC. During league nights it would be nice for the grill room staff to come to courts to take drink and food orders. It would also be a great improvement to always keep the bar well stocked and the fryer and grill on past 9:30pm. Most league courts are not finished playing until 9:30 and are unable to purchase food to eat.

When the new courtyard was opened, they had live music on the patio and it would be nice to have that on a regular basis“

“All pros are extremely nice! Jenny is very helpful !!!“

“Do not use the tennis facilities“

“Courts have cracks and the pro shop could use updating but the people are great“

Tennis Comments

“Love lessons with Oleg“

“We're missing adult clinics in the evenings or weekends. They should include levels 3.5 - 4.5“

“Additional clinic times that are after business hours for individuals that work full time“

"Please note we use pickle ball rarely tennis“

“I just recently began the Tennis membership for Pickleball. Hoping there are opportunities to get involved“

“It seems our mixers and events are expensive and not as good as golf. You sometimes pay for an event and there is not a breakfast taco or anything“

“Tennis staff is very professional and attentive. And the availability of tennis pros and lessons/clinics is excellent.

Sonterra should be actively looking to host Texas USTA events; we have some of the best facilities around and bringing non members could motivate them to join the club plus the extra revenue it could generate in F&B.

The grill personnel try to do miracles in a sub par facility, they very attentive and professional. The food is average at best and ordering from the tavern or the 19th hole takes forever to arrive. The food offering and facilities would benefit from an upgrade.

The grill facilities should be a venue for members and guests enjoy watching sporting events while having a drink. The tavern offers the option, but a lot of revenue opportunities are lost as there is little motivation to stay after play or simply come when major events are happening.

There is also poor maintenance of the existing facilities. The golf cart parking barrier has been down for the last 6 months, either repair it or remove the blocks. The wall outside the grill area is dirty, it should be easy to clean or paint, but nobody seems to care. “

Tennis Comments

“Some crack repairs needed and would be nice to have court score boards like other clubs“

“Inconsistent, sometimes things are good sometimes seems like we ’ re neglected. Still feels like we ’ re just an afterthought. Food/drinks service needs improvement and just overall trying to improve the vibe so people want to be up there having fun“

“It is my opinion that the head Professional of Tennis at Sonterra does not have the memberships best interest at heart. A steady decline in participation and enthusiasm is evident across the board, and such declines can be directly attributed to the actions and efforts of the person in charge. The membership deserves a Tennis Pro equivalent to the high quality of the club and the exceptional membership“

“I have not been able to play as we have young children at home but my extended family participates often. I look forward to joining in the future“

“Celine's clinics are so helpful. Do whatever it takes to keep her happy please“

“Cracks in multiple courts“

“Several courts need resurfacing and new nets. Also there needs to be functioning water fountains on courts 21-24“

“Would be good to be able to reserve courts onine“

“LOVE LOVE LOVE these people!!! I miss them everyday!“

“Would be great to have clinics for people that are not on a team...just fun clinics or mixers by level to help meet more people. Also maybe more help on getting people on teams. I am very satisfied with tennis at Sonterra“

“The tennis locker room is very old and outdated. Recently the landscaping near court 10 was redone and it doesn’t match the rest of the club“

Tennis Comments

“Jenny runs a great program and her staff is top notch. However, they need an expanded facility to accommodate the staff and pro shop. And it would be really great if the ice/water machine on the tennis patio could be replaced. It breaks down often“

“I wish we would have built in score keepers like other clubs have. I also think that the programs are lacking and FUN kids events“

“entire team awesome, Jenny, mike, Scott and others“

“Leagues and clinics fill up too fast, leaving paying members out. More instructors are needed for 1on 1 training. I used to have 1 o 1 instruction with Celine but she no longer has time for it with all her group sessions. Bring the BLT sandwiches back to the tennis grill please!“

“Some courts could use resurfacing , more shade structures, another water fountain with ice would be helpful. Overall the tennis staff are great to interact with and programs are run well. An indoor tennis / pickleball facility would be great“

“Jenny, Scott, Janiss, mike, christy, and makelia are all extraordinary people“

“Some of the courts are in bad shape and need resurfacing“

“We love Jenny“

“Clay courts need attention“

“Please add padel courts. You’ll be bringing a lot of new members and a lot of your tennis players would be paying it too“

Pool & Fitness Comments

“Pool good thanks for improving. Snack area on the other hand needs improvement. Hours of operation has changed so that is a big negative. Start time changed to 11 am should open by 10 am the latest. Tennis and pick all players would like some food and drinks and now we can’t getting anything until 11 am. “

“Do not use pool. Rarely use fitness area. Used to used the locker room (ladies) 19th hole, but it is so horrible now I do not even go in“

“The ladies locker room needs a complete refresh. Would be nice to have more nice necessities in there as well. Hair ties, deodorant, facial cleansing wipes, plastic bags for wet swimsuits/clothes“

“The snack bar (grill) is often closed. Additionally, the availability of the offerings are limited and there is no offer from the staff to retrieve supplies from the 19th hole. A significant number of sales are lost everyday“

“Thanks for fixing the leaking roof. Overall, I have no complaints. Pool is great”

“The dates the pool is open are too short. It’s hot in Texas til November…let’s not close it in September“

“Would like more elliptical machines with "arms." There are only two. but understand space very limited“

“New surfacing isn’t smooth, food is awful, pool is rarely clean. Plus side: lifeguards always interact with kids and are helpful. Fitness is so gross and dirty. Why isn’t it mandatory to wipe down machines and equipment after use (gross)“

“Hot tub and steam room seem to be constantly inop - for example today both are broken!!!!“

“Locker rooms need some updating and better cleaning. Whirlpool is in really bad shape”

Pool & Fitness Comments

“Pool and fitness areas are great. Friendly staff and well maintained facilities“

“The snack bar could and needs to be updated and offer more inside seating“

“Lifeguards and snack bar staff are excellent“

“I think we need people that make sure your using equipment properly without having for you to get a private trainer“

“Since we no longer have young children at home we don't really use the pool anymore. In the past it did not seem that clean or cared for. Furniture was old, snack bar was very limited and often no one was working there. Hope it's improved since we last used the pool facilities”

“Pool Wait Staff and Lifeguards on 4th of July pool party were amazing and friendly“

“Pool area could use more seating, maybe some color coordination. We have been extremely frustrated with the snack bar and service in general“

“I would like to see the fitness area xpanded and more machine options for greater types of exercises.

The pool is relatively clean, but it is never truly without debris both on the surface and on the floor. The pool needs to be skimmed more often as well as the floor cleaned daily. It may make sense for the club to invest in a robot cleaner for overnight cleaning so the pool is clean“

“The biggest improvement to the pool for young families would be a ramp entry area, and a splash pad type area for small kids (Hollywood Park's community pool provides a great example). A playground in general (or near the pool) would be a huge plus as well“

“Fitness center needs more attention to cleaning doors and wet areas. Wet areas need updating“

“Im glad to see some of the repairs in the fitness area - roof, leaks, mold. The problem is that is just fixing real previously neglected problems. Look at the whirlpool in the mens locker room. It’s looks so old and if you look up, there is a raw wood board where the skylight leak was repaired. And so many of the AC vents are old and rusted“

“Sometimes towels aren’t available and the menu could be use a few more options“

“Pool could use some work. The locker rooms are awful, the snack bar isn’t that great and has weird hours. Also needs to have full menu. It’s very inconsistent“

“Wet sauna in old and doesn't work alot of the time with steam seldomly coming out“

“The fitness center leaves a lot to be desired. The wall color choice should be changed immediately. There are mirror tiles falling off of the walls, visible water damage on ceiling, and outdated and non-functioning machines.

The facility overall does not reflect the quality the membership should include. In the two years of being a member, I have personally only used the facility once and never wanted to return.

The fitness classes should be offered at varying times of the day. Working club members are unable to attend in the middle of the morning. Evening classes would provide more members a chance to utilize the fitness component of membership.

The water aerobics could be more strenuous and the instructor lacks confidence and the ability to encourage members while working out.

The fitness locker rooms should be at the top of the list to be repaired and updated immediately. The visible water damage, cringey inspirational wall signs, and the mismatched furniture is sad“

“Do not use the fitness or pool facilities“

Pool & Fitness Comments

“need resort style lounge chairs, need servers out there taking orders“

“So glad the pool was resurfaced this year. Hopefully all restrooms on the entire property will be on the short list for renovation”

“The fitness center could use new equipment. Also, having group classes for younger members that work full time, outside of business hours“

“Gym feels dark and a bit outdated. Staff has had zero involvement - barely saying hello - not rude just disassociated, reading or doing their own thing. Pleas update the hot tub in women's locker room ”

“Since you asked about the pool snack bar---it is also the snack bar for tennis....it needs to be improved. The sports grill staff is not always willing to help people...many times throughout the year (not in summer) the staff is inside it with the lights off almost hiding so you don't know if is actually open. They run out of food items and when you ordere they will say oh we have to go get it from the club is you really want it...Many tennis players now bring their own food and drinks because the sports grill is so unreliable. it has potentital to make money for the club but is staffed poorly and it appears that club management treats it like a step child and it is not a priority. it could be a money maker but it is poorly managed“

“The Fitness floor is dirty. The walls need painting, the windows in front of the treadmills (on the outside) have not been cleaned for a very long time. The various machines are not cleaned regularly.

The woman's bathroom stall for the last 4 days did not have the paper toilet seat covers . The rack in the woman's bathroom stalls that have the paper seat covers were all empty. Even after I reported it, it was a couple of days when I saw house keeping and inquired. The housekeeping finally did fill them yesterday. I had reported it to the new fitness center lady in charge but nothing happened. The former fitness center Lee Ann made inspections, the fitness center was immaculate, painted, and always greeted those who came into the fitness center. The new girl does not manage and instead uses the weights and does stretching exercises on the mats“

“The new fitness director sits in her office, the fitness bathrooms are dirty, and there are many ceiling tiles that need to be replaced now that the roof has been repaired“

Pool & Fitness Comments

“Other than the grill or “snack bar” I don’t use the pool nor the fitness center. Scored it as good as people I know talk positively about them.

The club could use a social pool, understand is a stretch, but could be an added value to the club an members“

“The fitness center needs to be repainted and get rid of those tacky stick on mirror squares. “

“Do not use the pool, so therefore can not comment. Glad the roof got fixed. Nice to still have Tim Roberts around who has done a good job running the operation, knows everyone and speaks to everyone. Can't say anything for the new person as I have not met her“

“The bathrooms are main concern, just need more upkeep and a makeover. Pools getting better, would be nice to have more shade and create more privacy from the apartments (just plant some bamboo or trees). I also think you fenced out the grassy area for the kids which is an entertainment area taken away “

“the fitness is very dirty and grimy; the equipment to work out with is less than adequate ; been a member for over 30 years ; the staff has no personality when it comes to its members“

“Don’t use the pool that often“

“Miss LeighAnn. She brought the level up. Multiple pieces of equipment worn “

“Pool overall is OK. Brand new umbrellas and better loungers would be nice“

“We love and appreciate the sun cover over the kid pool. The ceiling tiles in the women ’ s bathroom are old and often brown“

“Better offerings in pool and tennis grill“

“nice job with update“

“Thank you for resurfacing and doing new tile and coping. The pool looks much better.

Would like to see better frozen treats“

“It takes a really long time to get your food after you order, need to speed up service. And would be good to offer more variety but speed of service is critical.

As for the pool, there should be less adult swim. Or do adult swim lanes but still allow kids in the pool“

“The snack bar needs to be completely redone, and the staff properly trained“

“More umbrellas would be great and more servers supporting the pool“

“Have not yet used“

“Haven’t used the pool since the renovation, so I might be dated. Loved water fitness last year with Leah Ann. Very disappointed that she left the club“

“Are there times allocated for adult lane swim only with all lanes with buoy ropes?”

“Wish we could move to sanitary wipes rather than towels for cleaning equipment! The towels seems so dingy, and can never find a spray bottle“

Pool & Fitness Comments

“I think you should blow out the area in the parking lot by the golf cart store and make that a kid friendly pool area with something along the lines of a "lazy river" or water slide type feature. service and staff is a lot better this summer than last but I still think there isa lot of room for improvement on available hours (night tennis leagues closing before 10pm, when we are just finishing games), also good quality food options for pool snacking/eating, fun drinks, less expensive desserts - $5"dipndots" poor “

“Bring the BLT sandwiches back to the tennis grill please!”

“We need a new steam room in the men ’ s locker room. It does not ever seem to have been cleaned. The weights are fine, but the ellipticals are getting old“

“the grill should have consistent working hours; have supplies out“

“I’m very pleased with having servers at the pool again. I wish there were more during busy times, but understandably it’s unpredictable. I’d love to see some healthier options on the menu at the sports grill“

“The tables and chairs should be cleaned DAILY!!! They are always dirty and sticky. The floor in the woman's bathroom is gross...someone needs to powerwash it. The grout is filthy“

“I haven’t used the fitness center yet but intend to“

“New director never leave’s office, glad Tim is still around“

“1. Swim team uses pool 5-7 pm everyday.

It is prime time that members can’t use.

2. Lifeguards attitude is awful very annoying“

“Wish Tavern would stay open later on weekends and would like to see mixers brought back quarterly“

“It is very nice to have the bar and dining but I would like to see a better selection. I want to share with you that last month I had a wonderful steak in the bar“

“Hopefully the quality of food and service will improve to the level it was in the past“

“Food menu has improved, but there still remains the inconsistency. Some days the food is excellent and you get the same item on another day and it can be disappointing.“

“Would love more specials that are healthier options. And more healthy options in general“

“Have more Bingo and Trivia. The spaghetti is a great idea for Bingo. The Sunday buffet is great but too expensive, otherwise we would go more often. I miss the pasta night. Maybe start it up again or something similar“

“Love to see more frequent menu changes and specials . I know food prices are generally out of control but please work to keep dining at the club at a better price point tan eating out elsewhere“

“Love to see more frequent menu changes and specials . I know food prices are generally out of control but please work to keep dining at the club at a better price point tan eating out elsewhere“

“No “happy hour”as we used to have it No quarterly or monthly membership events. Sunday Brunches/buffets when you have them are great! Food selection and taste is outstanding (to me equal or better than cruises). Pricing is a bit high, service for the 18% gratuity is average/poor, and entertainment/piano player is very good…..positively equal to the upscale club decorum“

“I have a great time at Sonterra. Not due to the old facility but due to the members and most of the staff. Staff on the whole have been very good to me. I believe it is headed in the right direction“

“Staffing seems to be an issue as "new faces" seems to be the norm “

Food & Beverage Comments

“Much of the food is highly seasoned“

“ Can’t get my family to eat out at the club anymore. Why spend premium prices for poor service, menu, and quality?“

“The cost of food is high and presentation should plates need improvement this is a Country Club let’s feel like we are being treated special“

“Antonio and his Staff are "OVER THE TOP"“

“It’s often difficult to get service on burger night outside. Pleas turn the beer coolers down so it’s served colder. Barely cold at current temp. During renovations, hopefully lines can be ran from walk-in to provide a bit more variety. Upgraded glassware for beer and wine. Currently there is only a couple of large steins for beer“

“This applies to the Tavern mainly. There are some wait staff members that are really good and pleasant, others not so good. I believe if a mid level restaurant can teat its dinners as special guest, member of the wait staff should do the same for Sonterra Members. Greater Bartending skills and training are needed for making cocktails“

“Antonio and his staff are over the top“

“The food and service has been a big letdown for us. During fall and spring months when sitting on the tavern lawn area is desirable, we would struggle for attention from one overworked and often rude waiter. Food often arrives incorrectly. Large events/buffet food is borderline inedible. We do enjoy the pop-up BBQs - for some reason those burgers, etc. are great but the regular burgers are lifeless SYSCO. Food and staff need some serious attention.“

“alcoholic beverages too expensive. would come drink at the club more if the pricing was better“

Food & Beverage Comments

“Weekend specials are great, love the variety. Regular menu is tired, rarely changes. The shareable that the Club has generously provided to some of our groups also have some great items. Would like to see more of those incorporated into menu “

“The food quality is not very consistent except for the burgers“

“Service is good but one of the biggest things is getting a set up before the food arrives and then asking for a setup. This is mostly in the bar. I like that we have weekly specials that are good but some of the specials should be on the regular menu “

“Food is at best okay, some items are good. Tavern is great (but last visit was bad). Unless you are a regular golfer the wait staff in the 19th hole is awful. Been with my tennis teams and we are mostly ignored. Why do I have to automatically tip the servers at grill and 19th hole for crappy service? Why would anything improve if they are set with a tip? I’ve had spoiled fruit served to my kids, over and under done food at the grill“

“Sometimes it takes a long time to get service in the 19th Hole. Sometimes after order is taken, & eventually delivered you NEVER see the staff again & sometimes have to call out or flag someone down. Sometimes you have to get up to go get condiments or table ware “

“Need to bring back traditional food: drunken shrimp, poblano soup, salad bar and fine dining like we use to have“

“The one area that leaves a lot to be desired for at Sonterra is the food. San Antonio has so many good food options, it’s disappointing that our food is not “Country Club” level… it’s just fair… I would have lots of business lunches there but my clients always suggest we go to Silo’s, Costa Pacífica, Nonna’s, Toro or Longhorn cafe for that matter instead. The staff are friendly and eager, but the food is not up to par with the options near the club. It’s not about adding more options to the menu, but the things we serve should be much better“

“The hours could be extended for weekends. The 19th and Tavern could use more beer options“

Food & Beverage Comments

More options that are gluten-free (safe for someone with an allergy) would be appreciated- especially for sides. Aka please make the french fries gluten-free (no gluten/wheat ingredients and not cooked in the same oil as gluten containing food).

When you add the ++ to the already high prices we can enjoy a better meal at an area restaurant of great quality for the same or lesser cost and if you divide the social member fee into the number of meals eating at the club is way more expensive.

“Grill at the Tennis Courts: usually understaffed, menu items sold out, limited menu items, does not promote member ‘spending“

“It’s hard to answer this section. The staff for breakfast and lunch at the 19th hole is great. The are friendly and provide good service. The dining room is the opposite. Everytime we go for one of the brunches it’s like you have temporary staff that this is their first time waiting tables. The service is never good. And the dining room desperately needs painting, new curtains (or no curtains) new chairs, etc. Like the 19th hole. As one of my friends said, I go to Sonterra because I like the club and I like the people and the amenities. But I wouldn’t bring a client because it looks so run down and the main dining room is embarrassing to bring someone for dinner”

“The menu could use some more options and the cost is is a little high“

“Food isn’t great. I would never choose sonterra for dining over anywhere else. We go so our kids can play with their friends. The gluten free options aren’t great and very limited. I don’t want to eat there more than once a week max. The quality of food isn’t good, meat is chewy and looks unappealing. The beverage selection isn’t good at all. The wine list is poor and doesnt have many offerings. The liquor options aren’t much better. The beer selection is ok. Everyting is just average…without my kids playing, there isn’t a reason for us to dine/drink there“

“cheaper wine options would be appreciated“

“The addition Chef Paul and the additions to menu, the quality of food is great. I would request a fine dining experience at least once. A month on a Friday or Saturday“

Food & Beverage Comments

“The food has improved immensely since hiring the new chef! We love to attend burger night on Tuesday nights and wish pasta night would come back on Wednesday nights!

The updates to the 19th hole have been impressive and we hope to see that same vibe carried throughout the entire main clubhouse and event spaces. The Fiesta celebration and July 4th are always well attended and we have enjoyed them the past few years. Bingo nights, monthly brunches, weekly 19th hole specials, and live music nights are fun but feel that they could be better attended by members“

“On a good day the staff is great. When they are understaffed, which happens way too often it is a very long wait for your food and the service is poor. The salads need to be more creative“

“There are no good options for members with food allergies“

“The Silver Oak wine dinner was excellent. If the food quality tends to be up and down. Sometimes it is as good as any restaurant and some times we wonder why we chose to eat at the club“

“food has gotten better but still understaffed. We haven’t had a margarita machine over in the tennis area for 4 years. Hagen said we can’t afford to get a new one.. Imagine the revenue we could generate by having one for the pool and one for the 19th hole. it would pay for itself in 1 week ♂“

“I am Connect member so this helps pricing a great deal. Without Connect, I think I would find the prices high. I like the weekend specials and really appreciate the effort put forth this year to improve our menu choices“

“I would really appreciate a few plant based food options. Often some regular menu items can be easily modified for those of us who are plant based“

“Food is too inconsistent“

Food & Beverage Comments

“Continued training and management of staff will help improve greatly“

“More opportunities for social events for younger members, such as trivia, or singles events. Also recommend espresso machine. Several folks come that work from home that come to the club during the day - there may be a way to cater to that group “

“Over all the Club could stand improvement with training of the staff and the chef teaching his staff to be consistent with quality and availability“

“Managers in19th hole great, but overall too much turnover, food quality Ok . If they are busy at all, More that 10 tables or so the wait times are excessive“

“Heard a rumor that "garage" type doors would be added at bar windows - that would be awesome for hearing music INSIDE bar area “

“I commented on previous page about spors grill“

“Food and service are so inconsistent that I often avoid eating at the club. They can’t even make decent iced tea in the main clubhouse. Wretched, metal tasting tea. This is not new in spite of it being reported to staff numerous times over several years “

“Food quality is totally inconsistent - good (not ever great) one day and really bad the next. Also the kitchen is slow (takes a very long time for some very simple things to be delivered). The wait staff tries hard, and pricing is not an issue - my issues are with the quality of the food and the length of time it takes to get served“

“The food and beverage staff are very nice, they just need the training to get to your table with water/cocktail and pick up empty plates. The food for the price is not great. The food has improved with the new chef“

“Quality of food has improved under. hef Paul, wish there were more changes in menu choices“

Food & Beverage Comments

“Food opns are not up to other clubs (e.g., Dominion). Staffing is such that a long wait is necessary. Menu is a headscratcher (popular items, e.g., steak fries) are dropped without saying why. No monthly, quarterly or even semi-annual member get-togethers, like in the past. These provide an opportunity to meet other members, how may not be golfers like us “

“The food is excellent (dramatically improving over the last year) and so is the service. We could use more social activities that would include more lively music and dancing“

“Food & Beverage – We as a Country Club should have an elegant setting to enjoy a nice dinner in a fine dining environment (comparable to Eddy V’s, Kirby’s, Aldino’s, Paesano’s and Silo’s within 5 miles of Sonterra). Unfortunately, we don’t have that except of special occasions such as Mother’s Day, Easter, and Sunday Brunch. When we first joined Sonterra in 1998, the Club was known throughout the City as “THE CLUB for fine food”. Now that we have Executive Chef Paul Goll, we are approaching that status again, but having to eat most meals in the 19th Hole, detracts from the ambiance.

Historically, Sonterra’s main dining room had a full buffet on weekdays at lunch time and many a business lunch was had with businesspeople bringing clients for a tasty meal in a professional environment. Sunday brunch often had ice sculptures, a pianist, and servers in jackets attending to members and their families. Sunday brunch is still a “ marquee ” item at the Club presenting a perfect time to “dress up ” and enjoy a delicious food.

Our artificial turf patio is one of the most popular food & beverage attractions at Sonterra. Families with small children particularly enjoy the patio. The “Child Development Center” was conceived and built to provide parents with small children an opportunity to drop off the children to a safe and fun environment while they enjoyed a quiet dinner at the Club. That concept appears to be lost on young members and needs to be resurrected and advertised by Club management as an alternative to children running amuck in the 19th Hole and on the patio.

Until COVID, Sonterra had Valet Parking as do most country clubs. We also had a coat check room adjacent to the Receptionist’s desk. All the things that make a county club a “Country Club” need to be back again - it gives young people an opportunity, if properly trained and motivated, to earn good money for special events“

Food & Beverage Comments

“Meoimi wine is not always available. The food has improved. We used to have huge, “free”, social events. What is a social membership even for if all events have a per person charge?“

“Sonterra does a very good job with its activites and social functions. I believe service can be a lot better. Robin in the 19th Hole is terrific, as is Kimberly taking care of the card room. Family stopped coming to Bingo due to a incident where one of the family members car was hit; did not receive any help from the staff in trying to find out who did it; the security staff was extremely helpful compared to the staff handling the bingo. Hagen Cleek tried his best to help after the incident occured“

“So disappointed on the cuts made to the 19th Hole Menu, and we really miss those fun happy hours you had when we initially joined, those were some great times, really brought the community together“

“Staffing is tough and I get it’s hard to predict, sometimes they’re overwhelmed and sometimes they’re over staffed. I think some nights when the lawn is slammed 19th hole staff should be more available to help. Same with on tennis nights, why not send a 19th hole staff member over to help try and serve drinks or take food orders as tennis matches wrap up? Staff is always super nice and they work really hard though. Food has been great, love the weekend specials! A little music, fans/misters and better lighting wouldn’t hurt on the lawn either“

“Lack of supervision is why food and service is not up to standard. Inconsistency of food. Staff not well trained. New management in food and beverage is needed“

“Need more staff that timely anticipate and provide services. More foo choices and variety“

“19th hole and Tavern on the Green are both excellent“

“Need more staff that timely anticipate and provide services. More foo choices and variety“

Food & Beverage Comments

“food is hit and miss. depending on who is cooking; breakfast is limited; staff is sometimes to busy talking to each other rather than delivering food thus cold or just mediocre warm food; the atmosphere of the 19th hole is not warm and inviting, and for dinner especially for dinner when you want a nice dinner the atmosphere is not welcoming or warm--could use table clothes for dinner in the evening ; maybe even a little live music in the 19th hole versus the main club house“

“19th hole and Tavern on the Green are both excellent“

“Would like to bring back the Monthly Happy Hour. Charge a fee for members or for guest or limit guests! It was nice seeing everyone under one roof!“

“19th hole has very slow turnaround on getting food once ordered. Often go somewhere else when I have less than an hour and half. I realize kitchen is small but is an ongoing issue forever.

Food quality is an issue. Selections are not consistent and have missing items from those stated in the menu. Also. Have had food brought out for our table and a have a missing meal. Not even on the ticket. We will be done eating before they get the meal out. Has happened more than once.

Bill is almost never accurate and needs correction. Gets very tiring to ask for correction each time. Very few waitstaff bring a bill/receipt and unfortunately need one because of inaccuracy. One correction is Happy Hour. Never gives discount.

Restroom needs a makeover badly. Embarrassing when I bring friends.

Some waitstaff drop off food and never come back. Manager is one of them. We shouldn’t have to chase them down.

Need sound intervention in 19th hole. Gets very loud quickly.

The 19th hole had a big makeover but service remains the same. Staff are very friendly but there needs to be more training or something to bring the level of service up. We do get excellent service from Robyn.“

Food & Beverage Comments

“Can we get fountain sodas?”

“Pricing could be better and the added gratuity is ridiculous. Gratuity should be my choice. Staff would give better service if the customer would be able to leave tip instead of autatically adding. Sometimes the new staff ignores customer and doesn't deserve gratuity. High prices and bad service? Makes me want to change clubs sometimes“

“We love the activities and tell all of our friends to join the club just to be a part of the social scene. It’s wonderful for young families. The food is okay pricey for what you get. The service is slow outside, consistently. The drinks are okay… you can’t go wrong with beer or wine but the mixed drinks are not good. The ice is not great for a quality cocktail. The recipes need help, too. With SA local bringing family and friends from out of town to the club, the margaritas need work. The staff is lovely in food and beverage. We appreciate their kindness with our kids. We come back and promote the club in thanks to many memories on the lawn and in the pool area “

“The grill closes before we are done with league & everyone is hungry & wants to hang out - the kids that work there always change the story“

“i think a little broader menu for dinners would bring more members. love the weekend specials. love the wine and chef dinner options but I have been traveling/working for most recent“

“Please provide more gluten free options (particularly at the sports grill)“

“I like having the different specials and getting new menu items“

“Price should be lower given that we pay monthly dues. Pricing should be less than comparable restaurants“

“The food quality needs to increase, and the alcohol prices are too high - especially with the ++ added in“

Food & Beverage Comments

“Flight beer please. On tap, even better“

“Please please offer more Prosecco options. I was told on Mother’s Day that wyclef is the only option, I would happily pay a premium for something that wouldn’t giv me a headache“

“The staff is friendly but there are not enough waitstaff. Constantly running people down to get waited on or needing basic things like a glass of water! Need more staff! Food and menu has gotten much better over the past year! Please add sparkling wine options to the pool bar!“

“A new chef was hired a year or so ago and he totally changed the menu. I understand that. However, he eliminated a number of items that were favorites of the members without asking if the members would care “

“Haven’t attended a social function yet“

“Celina and the staff at the 19th Hole / Tavern are the main reason we decided to stay with the club for the time being. They treat us like family and they know what we want when we walk through the door. Like being at “Cheers“

“A shoutout to all the 19th hole servers and chefs. Good job! I keep being told you can’t do it but how about hotdogs, bratwurst and premade sandwiches at the 19th hole for those who are just starting their round or making the turn on the North“

“Burger night's are excelent, although the new square plates are not practical. To go servioce is fine“

“The food has gotten super expensive. I don’t enjoy going and eating an appetizer and drinking a tea and having my bill reached 20 bucks. If you get an appetizer and an entrée it’s close to $40. That is if you just get a sandwich and small order of nachos and a tea. The prices have gotten too high“

“It would be great if the Club would put several Mocktails on the beverage menu. Most upscale bars and restaurants have a nice selection of Mocktails“

Food & Beverage Comments

“Need a better wine selection“

“The dining has taken a terrible dip in quality and in the type of food provided. The menu reads like nothing before. As a member for close to 40 years, I want to know what happened? Even the “to go ” menu is overpriced and there is no reliable information about whether your order will be on time and whether you will get what you ordered! We used to have superior service and a chef so good, he was stolen away by SA Country Club. So you really think I take friends to the Club for meatloaf? Perhaps you could find some old menus and see if you can find someone to cook what’s on them. Yes, prime rib; yes, chicken fried steak or chicken; yes, pecan crusted fish; yes, grilled salmon; yes, of course, hamburgers, etc. (without the jalapeño dressing and weirder sides). What about the Caesar Salad as a base with grilled chicken or even grilled salmon for a great noon choice. I remember pasta with orange basil dressing. I could go on and on but that is enough. AND, when you know it is a club event, do have extra staff so the wait isn’t over an hour to get a menu brought to your table. Telling my friends, “let’s go to Sonterra” now elicits the response, “Oh, let’s not.” Makes me feel ashamed“

“Food and drinks are vastly overpriced. Going to Sunday Brunch costs more than $50 apiece after taxes and gratuities are added. Not worth it!

I'd like to specifically address the Tennis Grill or Sports Grill (whatever it's now called). Several food items that used to be available are no longer on the menu. We used to be able to get quesadillas, but no longer. It was a very popular food item. Also, prior to the current head chef's arrival, Sonterra had the best french fries in town. Apparently, he didn't like them, so he changed to what members consider a vastly inferior brand of french fries. Also, the Tennis Grill is consistently out of Modelo draft beer. When Hagen Cleek was still the manager, I had a standing agreement with him that the Tennis Grill would never be out of Modelo draft. He upheld his end of the bargain. However, since his departure as manager, Modelo draft is often not available“

“Hours of operation do not seem to be open enough. I even recall during the Taste of Sonterra/Fiesta Event, there were over 50 people in the main bar and they kicked everyone out sometime around 10 pm. That was disgustingly bad service, looked horrible to a ton of prospective members attending that function as guests of members, and the lost revenue to the club is hard to stomach when we still have water-stained walls in that facility. Very poor management decision. Also, closing the kitchen and main bar at 6 pm on Sundays doesn't seem to make much sense from a member amenity perspective“

“We need an expresso machine! Also, singles events!“

Food & Beverage Comments

“Debbie does an excellent job on social activities. The staff are friendly and helpful“

“Need to bring back monthly parties with free food buffet“

“The quality of the food has seriously gone down hill in the last year or so. The menu changes have not been for the better. We were just at the 19th hole for lunch over the weekend and there's almost nothing edible on the menu. I ordered the burger and sweet potato fries. The burger was so salty I couldn't eat it and the sweet potato fries were burnt on the outside but soggy on the inside. A couple of weeks before that I tried the chicken salad and the chicken was chewy and couldn't be eaten. It literally made me sick. The quality of the food and the beautiful dining rooms used to be the crown jewel of the club. Why am I paying $700/month to eat at a low quality sports bar?“

“The tennis area grill needs improvements: hours of operation, menu and staffing should be expanded“

“During busier times (Friday evenings) the kitchen doesn’t seem to be able to keep up with orders in a timely manner. I’d love to see a meal plan or discount program for a monthly fee come back to sonterra. I’d also like to see a nicer dining option during the week for business lunches“

“There’s a very limited menu that needs revamping and add more variety. The service level is very sporadic and there’s NO management in the evenings. No one is available to make sure sevice and quality are delivered“

“My observation of wait staff is there is consistently a lack of training. Food served without napkin or utensils. I observed cans on beer and bottles of liquor in the ice chest the cart girl was serving ice from this weekend. Clearly a sanitation issue. I would be afraid to inspect the ice bins suspecting I’d find mold“

“New employees have no training! They try but without training they have no chance“

“Service at the sport grill is hit or miss. I will say over past several months has gotten much better“

“I use the locker room and the 19th hole mostly so my responses are limited“

Food & Beverage Comments

“In the middle of placing an order for food, another member walked up behind me, and waived at the wait staff. She turned to the person behind me and took their order… while I was in the process of placing my order. That level of disrespect was so great, I made a decision to stop eating there“

“The shaved/crushed ice is a cheap feeling choice for cocktails. I love the staff, but they are spread too thin serving the lawn area during peak times“

“Wen I have guests or special times (birthdays, valentines, Christmas ,etc) I always know I can come and all will have great food and a good time“

“We love the servers “

“No food manager supervision. Inconsistent food quality“

Additional Comments

“Evening play at pickleball is a safety concern because people / kids come from the apartment (sneak in), Non members and when confronted they get aggressive and if it’s just ladies playing in my foursome. A few times we “the dues paying memebers” leave we because we do not feel safe. We have brought these concerns to management for the last 3 years but nothing has changed“

“The Fiesta Event was started by getting all the 40+ members in a single line by a shouting police lady. She apologized to me when I left. She must have been under a lot of stress. That is not how you treat Country Club Members. During Special Events you have us buy tickets for drinks. That is a tedious way for the members and your staff. I wished you would come up with another way “

“I am very optimistic about the future of the club with a large infusion of funds from the new owners. Hopefully renovation of the main club house will begin in the next year. Hopefully that will attract more new members. Hopefully, the quality of food will continue to improve“

“1. The bathrooms need more attention. In main club in the ladies room you have to struggle to get the toilet paper out of the dispensers. This is the case for all of the bathrooms. The soap dispensers do not work. The handles on the sinks need replacement. You can turn the handles and nothing happens or you cannot turn off adequately. The 19th hole ladies locker room is horrible and I do not use any longer.

2. Kids are at the short practice area running around, playing in the bunkers. There should be no kids at all at the practice area unless they are old enough to practice and not use plastic golf clubs and hitting plastic balls. Grandparents and parents need to be aware this is not a play area.

3. Enforcement of rules seems to be on a "if you are known/liked" you do not have to comply with rules, dress code, patio and children, short game practice area etc.

4. Carts need cart covers.

5. Future carts need adequate ice bucket storage, as it is now, you can barely get 2 bottles of water in the bucket area.

6. 19th hole needs more adequate sound proofing“

“The bathrooms would be my main concern. They are all so outdated and a lot of times not clean. The outside of the club should be painted white to provide a far better aesthetic. I am glad the 19th hole was updated, but I would say to try to stay more traditional in style to keep with the beautiful style of the buildings and their windows and views“

Additional Comments

“Understandably, the clubhouse has not yet been updated since the sale. However, it is hard for us to 'show off' our club in it's current state of disrepair and filth. We have 2 families to whom we have promised to host for a 'show around and dinner' when it has been updated and ready for us to 'show off'“

“I skipped some questions because I am not familiar enough to answer. Please trim the oak trees that have ball moss, I know it is expensive but I think it really helps with the appearance. The club grounds are beautiful“

“We must continue to improve the club following the criminal level neglect and theft of our dues of the last several years. We need more members and younger members to keep this club alive“

“The cleanest of the showers need to be improved and also update a little bit the showers in both men and women locker rooms by he pool“

“Know you ’ re trying. Repairs & other club facilities are recognized & appreciated. When membership service & satisfaction becomes the number one priority and NOT the bottom line, member appreciation & participation will improve“

“Club is a great place to socialize. Consistancy of food has been a problem for a long time. As i said earlier it is headed in the right direction“

“The major updates and new equipment seems to only be going to golf, like 35 new golf carts. The locker room, which many tennis women frequent, is so bad. I realize golf probably brings in the most money, but don’t neglect the other facilities“

“Just need to see more improvements in the Club house. It needs updating very badly. the bathrooms are yucky. When will that happen?“

“Looking forward to seeing the new vision and investment of the club“

Additional Comments

“For activities like bingo or comedy night, there should be plated options. The open buffets with lack of sneeze guards (and lots of kids) is NOT appetizing“

“I am a happy member of the club andy family and I have really enjoyed becoming a part of the Sonterra community. That being said, most of the facilities need a face-lift. The renovation to the 19th hole was great. The locker rooms, card rooms, banquet rooms, main entrance, restrooms and tavern all need upgrades. Also, we need digital (online) reservations for tee times, tennis courts, special meals and events“

“My answers are dependant on the present. I expect my answers will all go veery likely when the improvement plans are executed“

“Updating the facility. It’s very dated and needs some tlc“

“How is anything suppose to change with new owners when the staff and GM remain the same? Why are club events open to the public? What am I paying for? After several complaints, why does my son still get discriminated against when he plays golf? We enjoy the tennis community but Jenny is awful, we pay for the privilege given to the non paying public“

“Nice to see improvements throughout the club!!!!“

“Gym Locker rooms need better cleaning especially showers. More attention to replacing supplies such as Kleenex. Light fixtures need cleaning. Repair of paint by back door of ladies locker room ”

“People like to gather socially over food and drink… I think if we upped our game on the food we would make a huge difference for our members experience“

Additional Comments

“The update if the main clubhouse should include and make use of the foyer space into a “living room “ experience. Something like you see at hotel Emma with leather couches and chairs. Make the space inviting and wanting for people to hang out with a drink from the Tavern.“

“Keep hiring good people. Good employees with friendly personalities make for a much better club experience“

“For the cost of the membership I think we need upscale all departments. I feel we have had some improvements on the course which is great. But facilities are still old fashion in several of the departments“

“Dress Code needs to be enforced...NO EXCEPTIONS!!!“

“The referral question with be with an * that Food and beverage was changing. It has always been the largest complaint when talking with other members“

“We just joined recently. The clubhouse areas need modernizing. We know the new ownership is committed to the updates in the next year. This is why we joined. The restaurant is nice. Wish if you left valuable items behind in the golf cart maybe they could keep a log of who is in which cart and then be able to get them back. Overall we are very happy with the golf course, events, and activities“

“There was a time when we would definitely invite and recommend Sonterra to friends, we were even ambassadors at one time. Over the course of the past several years (we've been members since 2006 so seen a lot of changes), we just don't see the same club we did when we joined. There were many more reasons to be on the property - social events, member mixers, better dining, clubs within the club, etc. We just don't see these things happening much any more. Many of the more recent activities we have attended have left us uninspired. Also, when we joined we were golf members but dropped to social members in 2017 when we just didn't have the time to enjoy the golf amenities. We would be very interested in playing pickle ball but having already paid a sizable initiation fee when we joined as golf members and we don't want to pay an additional fee to up our membership to tennis. There needs to be a balance...if a member joined at the highest rate and drops down there should still be a benefit for having paid the higher initiation fee. If a member joins as a social and wants to move up then it only seems fair they pay the added initiation fees. Please don't charge us just because you can...as a nearly 20 year member we have more than paid our dues!“

Additional Comments

“Mgt doing great kid , really cares !!!“

“Again, things are improving. Over past 2-3 months much better. Over past 2-3 years not so good. Golf of course has been awful. I blame CBIGG, not Hagen or Nathan. I hear great things are coming. Looking forward to it. If things continue to improve and the courses stay good even when the rain stops I’ll be happy and proud to recommend Sonterra to friends“

“Sonterra is great because of its members. The positive changes after the new ownership are apparent. Friday nights at the Tavern Lawn should be adults only and or with controlled children. The Tavern lawn becoming a playground has deterred us and others from attending regularly on Friday evenings. Having your wine glass spilled with a ball is never good. Johnny Saxx was a great entertainer and is missed on Fridays! In addition any issue that was not resolved by a pertinent dept. has always been resolved for us after we called Debbie to help. I hope you find this useful“

“Dress Code needs to be enforced“

“We are thankful for the recent renovations and attention to the golf course and general infrastructure. We definitely appreciate the push notifications RE: golf/tennis conditions, closures etc. Unfortunately I'm not convinced the value is there for us...I pictured my family spending full days at the club, but between the food, staff and generally depressing environment, I'm not sure we will maintain a full membership. Working on the food/atmosphere (clubhouse condition, etc.) would go a long way toward keeping us around“

“The club will s very nice, but the main club house does need more updates. Also, coming from Houston, our club there had a lot more facilities as well as events for the same membership rates“

“The club will s very nice, but the main club house does need more updates. Also, coming from Houston, our club there had a lot more facilities as well as events for the same membership rates“

Additional Comments

“Reduce the costs; increase the quality and have a newsletter that is more than just advertiising and really builds a sense of community & belonging“

“Dues continue to increase; do not see a correlation in increase of services, improvement in facilities and staffing; always seems the Club is only worried about ‘preparing to be sold“

“I refer people and tell them that I stay there because of the location. But I make sure they know that it is really run down and needs a lot of TLC. It can really be amazing and I dont think it would really take a total redo. It’s amazing how much changing the 25 year old paint on the walls to white will do. And changing the floors. The dominion updated their dining area a few years ago and it looks great. Now their mens locker room is horrible and needs a whole redo. I want you to know that my kids grew up at Sonterra and I have no interesting in changing to another club. Im just taking the opportunity to reinforce what you probably know. And I know that looking throug the eyes of a critical customer can be different from someone who works there and is busy focusing on the job everyday. Thank you for asking for feedback. Im happy to be helpful if there is anything you need from me “

“The dining room and main clubhouse need updating and the bathrooms throughout the club desperately need renovation! Parts of the club at lovely but I avoid those areas “

“The improvements show a good direction for the club as well as the improvements to the Golf course are encouraging and encourage me to refer members and or invite non members to the Golf course. Lastly, I would like to see an overhaul of the Golf driving range and Golf practice areas “

“Thank you for this opportunity to express our opinions!“

“Every year you offer incentives, discounts and special deals to attract new members or entice former members to return. At the same time you charge more every year to loyal long time members like us. We have been members for over 30 years without interruption“

Additional Comments

“ can’t recommend to anyone i know to join. if Sculptor puts in the $12m then i would reconsider. Sonterra is a shell of what it was 15-20 years ago. Most members i know which is quite a few wouldn’t recommend Sonterra right now. Fix the water issues and get the proper maintenance headcount and everything else will fall into place. The dire shape of the facilities is a whole other issue”

“After over 25 years as members and once very proud to be a member of Sonterra, I am embarrassed to even ask someone for a ladies golf guest day because of the dated appearance of the facility, the disgusting ladies bathroom and card room and the poor conditions of the golf course over the past few years. I'm thrilled that our new ownership realizes that the old adage 'build it and they will come' will indeed work to bring Sonterra back to it's former glory days“

“Need to improve overall maintenance. Parking lots are very dark at night with many lights not working at all. All locker rooms need to be revamped/modernized. The Pool/Fitness Grill is not up to the standards of the rest of the club. The chairs at the 19th hole are new and in good condition but look and feel cheap. The landscaping around the tennis courts has not been a priority and it shows - very shabby“

“This club has great potential to become one of the best clubs in the city again. Until the Golf Course greatly improves the club's value will remain low. There is optimism that the new ownership and new GM will continue to make the necessary, needed improvements Vs previous owners/Management that did not reinvest in the facilities and operations to the needed extent“

“More social events, preferably after business hours or weekends“

“As waiting to see what you new owners do - referring someone is iffy. We recently referred our best friends and unfortunately they have had one bad experience after another. The club needs much repair inside (your working on outside) - not sure if anyone has yet pointed out to you the horrible drapes that actually do t fit the windows They should have been rjected when they arived several years ago. To actually close them they have to be clipped together. That look embarrassing to all! I’m sure you know about the walls going down the hall and have heard much about the bathrooms. It is our hope we finally have owners that are really goi g to do something about the club overall. Thank you for hearing me out“

Additional Comments

“As an executive, I appreciate someone finally asking these questions. Its a long time coming. I hope these are confidential and taken seriously in attempt to improve the experience“

“Excited about new management and new updates - beautiful club just overall needs some cosmetic improvements“

“living on the north course, we are captive to the conditions....would like it to be so much more.....would like the dinner choices to be 'prime' not just ok; would like this to be a destination for dinner, not a last choice...“

“The Club House and every other facility needs a face lift - especially bathrooms in the Club House and on the North Course. The golf course are deplorable - little grass, horrible bunkers and average greens. Mike has improved things but he was in a huge hole upon arrival and continues to face an enormous challenge to bring the courses up to a GOOD level“

“The improvements in the club are doing a good job“

“We love Sonterra because of the members and most staff“

“We will not host or refer anyone for golf membership until the shortfalls/poor conditions of the courses have been remediated. We want a place we can be proud of, not one we need to make excuses for!”

“As a full golf member, paying the highest monthly fee, I would like to receive more value for my membership. The only benefit I get is the opportunity to play golf. A discount on F&B and activities for full golf members would motivate more to trade up to this membership“

Additional Comments

“Thank you for making this survey available for us to provide feedback. Sonterra is a special place, but through years of raking in armloads of money from its members by previous owners, with nothing in return except cut corners, it's lost its luster! I, along with many other members, am anxious to see a drastic improvement in the appearance and quality of the Club to restore it back to its once high reputation. The improvements that I've seen recently are encouraging and my hope is that soon Sonterra will be the place we all want to bring our friends and potential members to again. Because quite frankly, we have been embarrassed to bring others due to the poor condition the Club and its facilities were in. We HOPE that this time it will be different and our new owners really want to make Sonterra a "platinum" Club again!“

“The club house needs to be renovated“

“Do not feel as a member since 1972 that we get what we pay for. Stay at the club because of the friendships developed, but understand that many of us feel that if there was somewhere else to go that was convenient and respected the dues structure and received what a Country Club should give there would be an exit, but that is not the case. Looking forward to the new ownership and glad Hagen and Nathan are still at Sonterra. Am NOT IN FAVOR of the arrangement with Encore, as I see them as the same as CBIGG, and they never did anything to enhance the club and are operating the CBIGG Clubs plus the Clubs that the new ownership has purchased. I am not the only member that feels that way, and I am sure you have already heard that commentary“

“The men's locker room is a disgrace. I needs total renovation. The spa is filthy. All need immediate attentin“

“Where are the incentives for helping to increase membership? Why are personal carts penalized so heavily, when it should be a huge perk to living in the gates, therefore increasing club activity and food/Bev spending? If the goal is to continue and grow Junior base, I still think the dues are a little too high. The initiation is very reasonable but monthly dues for juniors is comparable with most upper tier clubs around the state. Overall seen huge improvements since the handcuffs came off and the sell went through, think we ’ re definitely heading in the right direction“

“Hope this survey helps to improve the Club. at Sonterra. Much work needs to be done in all areas. Especially food and Service“

Additional Comments

“I would like to see the club use paper cups instead of styrofoam. The bathrooms and locker rooms for the tennis/pool/gym area are overdue for a renovation and should be a top priority for club based on foot traffic and usage. Outside of those two items I love everything the club is doing, great work!“

“Before the hiring of the new Tennis Pro, I would have recommended the Club with 100% support.

However, when the person in charge responds to all recommendations and/or suggestions with an immediate NO without any contemplation, shows an almost distain for the job and it's members and has made no apparent efforts to improve the major tennis events such as the Club Championships and Member-Guest Event while passing the blame for the lack of participation on to the membership, I have found myself not only avoiding recommending the club in it's current state, but am currently contemplating ending my own membership. Note: I have already voiced my concerns the General Manager face to face, but I never received any form of direct response “

“I'm sure as the improvements keep rolling out, scores will continue to improve“

“I think Sonterra is needing more for the kids to do. I’ve noticed that the older members do not like the kids to run around and play at the 19th hole. Maybe adding a large play scape and an area specifically for the kids to play. This exact topic and suggestion has come up many times with many other members who have kids!“

"Entry foyer of club needs paint ceiling and 19th hole has a big paint stain on carpet which has been there for over a year “

“In regards to enforcement of the rules I’ve noticed inconsistency. For example I was once asked to tuck in my collars shirt on the driving range. I came back a couple of days later and there were people with untucked T shirts and nothing was said to them“

“We love being members. I grew up as a member and love to have my kids experience the same thing. I tell all of my friends to join us— the perfect place for young kids and their (tired, in need of fun, loving) parents“

Additional Comments

“I would like to ad new ownership and improvements give me great hope to returning to a great club“

“We need parking lot lights - it pitch black when we walk to cars! thanks!“

“I have been a member for 34 years and I remember the god old days. Our Food and Beverage is at its lowest level and not competitive. Our Golf Pro Shop is only concerned with rules and regulations and not member satisfaction“

“Locker rooms are embarrassing“

“lots of options each month. love the sunday brunch. father's day brunch was good. kids all love the sat and sun omelet bar option“

“I would recommend new golf members to our club due to the quality of the people at Sonterra and the fact that it is in town and has 2 courses. Course conditions have been rough enough that the recommendation has been qualified the last few years. But we are really enjoying seeing the improvements and I think that will make attracting new members easier. One area where I would like to see better rules enforcement (by management, not waitstaff who work for tips or other members who don’t want to have to be the lawn police) is inadequately supervised kids outside the 19th hole and Tavern. Kids are playing down on the green and tees, kicking balls that have hit tables with diners and knocked over drinks and aren’t looking out for people walking with drinks or driving carts as they dart around. Young families are part of the future of the club so no one wants to alienate them. However there needs to be clear expectations communicated to the parents if their kids are in areas primarily meant for adults for the safety and enjoyment of everyone. “

“The locker rooms are really out dated and need to be refreshed“

“Dues keep increasing and am definitely not seeing any additional value“

Additional Comments

“The carpeting and the overall appearance of the ball rooms is REALLY bad. I hosted an event there in December and it was almost embarrassing. Updating to all event rooms is a must. The staff was good though. Women's bathrooms all over the club need fixing and updating“

“Clubhouse needs major updating“

“Parents need to be made to supervise their children. Kid lifting trophy yesterday. I told him to put it down and find parent in tavern. Father came to me looking to start trouble. Seemed to have no problem with child’s behavior or his own for not supervising the children. Very uncomfortable for me. Several witnesses“

“Please release the following month activities sooner. By the time the calendar of events is released, we are already committed to other things. I’d love to be able to attend more events and get them on our family calendar sooner “

“The appearance of the clubhouse needs improvement. So many different styles and interiors have been used throughout the years. I love the Spanish style of the club. I wish they would keep the aesthetic but with a fresh look. Warm white stucco with Spanish tile roof. Remove the old carpet and put down Saltillo tile and brighten it up. Please stop using modern styles when doing improvements. Stick with the Spanish style that is true to sonterra and San Antonio. Above all else the ladies main bathroom/locker room needs to be Freshened up and please do something with the empty hot tub!“

“A lot of good work lately from course conditions to routine facility maintenance. We are loyal members and look at it as our “retired” military officers club. Weekday golf and private cart fees are not worth the price, but we will what happens over the next six months or so. In the short term … start to offer a few “freebies” to members, by membership level. Mid term … renovate the restrooms. Make me proud to be a member“

“I think communications could improve. We never hear about board meetings, golf and grounds meetings, advisory board meetings, etc. Only the elite insiders know what is going on at the club. Every day members just don’t count“

Additional Comments

“I’ve tried calling membership and it’s hard to get any9ne to respond. Had a friend wanting info“

“I am glad to see attention is being given to managing the children for improving the patio experience for everyone “

“Keep remodeling and it will get better“

“The main Clubhouse, which always was the jewel with every week Sunday brunch and every weekday dining, has fallen into disrepair. The main door looks like rotten wood, the reception area is bare where have the sofas gone? the ceiling in various places has some kind of damage and the faux paint job is partially gone, there are places where the woodwork and molding are missing. The “ new ” eating room near the golf course is clean and nice but it does not say “elegant” the way the main clubhouse used to. You ask if I would refer someone to Sonterra but not under these conditions and don’t think potential members are unaware of the downward trend many friends quit when they moved away and aren’t rejoining now they are back! The “most public private club” is greatly lacking. If not for my husband playing tennis with his old buddies, I would join the list of former members“

“I've been a member of Sonterra for 34 years. When I joined, it was a great club. We used to have member appreciation nights where members would gather and get to know each other. Food and drinks (wine & beer) were complimentary. The dining room used to be a nice place for a wonderful dinner. In fact, we had to make reservations for Friday and Saturday evenings. It was the complete country club experience. It just isn't like that anymore. The facilities are old and dated. Granted, the 19th Hole has been recently renovated and is a nice place for a casual meal. But will all the nice restaurants around the Sonterra area, Sonterra just can't compete. The dues are high. I pay almost $400 per month to play tennis twice a week. That's $50 each time I play. But I keep on paying it because it's a great tennis facility where most of my friends play. I used to be a golf member but dropped it last year because the value was certainly not worth the cost. The club kept pouring money into the golf courses, but they remained in poor shape. Dues went up, but that didn't improve things. I wasn't getting any value for what I was paying. Maybe the new ownership will fix that, but I know it will come at a cost for members. Just not worth it to me anymore.

Sonterra could be a great place once again, but it will take a lot of time, money and effort on the part of the new ownership and management team to make that happen“

Additional Comments

“Until the club is updated, painted and food is better probably not. And please take those old, dirty looking pots with straw flowers away at the front entrance of the clubhouse!! When is the clubhouse going to get painted? All the doors to it are terribly chipped and faded!! Certainly not a good first impression“

“With the newly infused funding, we are looking forward to improvements, especially in the food and beverage areas. I should add that the tennis/pickleball programs are very good“

“The entrance decor is so ugly, it looks fake, and cheap. Its embarrassing to walk by to be honest. We need a revamp of key roles at the club, KIDS CLUB needs major improvement and availability - its sad that for 3 kids I would pay $30/hour ++ There should be a high school staff member there EVERY DAY (afterschool until club closes) If not 1 kid showed up, you are spending maybe $100 on that staff member, it used to be that way a long time ago. online booking system for kids club, court reservations, and TEE TIMES!“

“We need to improve the management of the kid's club. It's expensive, seldom open, and there's no way to book it online. Contacting someone through phone or email is outdated and inefficient. It should be consistently open on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday. However, the price of over $30/hr for 3 kids means most families are just better off trying to get a sitter themselves to their house, it's nearly useless as it's run “

“Main club house needs renovations, it looks like it is falling apart in places“

“Golf maintenance crew needs to be increased to remove deadfall in creeks, rough, on fences. Fences need repair. remove all grass in gutters on the maintenance shed and clean around the shed. It’s a disgrace. Restart plans to upgrade locker rooms, associated restrooms/showers and card rooms. On Friday nights don’t put talent outside where all the kids are playing. No one can hear them, probably no tips either“

“I appreciate the club taking the time to do this survey. Thank you “

Additional Comments

“We have been members of Sonterra off and on (mostly on) since 2002. We have seen a steady decline in the overall quality of the club. We have great hopes with the new ownership but so far it feels more like a low rent park district facility than a premier golf country club. I know we need to give some changes time, but it costs nothing to enforce a dress code“

“benny is remarkable; the. gentleman that takes care of the tennis/pool locker rooms is great“

“Locker rooms need some serious improvement“

“Keep doing more of the little things that members notice and make us feel good about belonging to Sonterra“

“Ratings reflect current state of facilities. I look forward to seeing improvements in the facilities similar to the 19th hole renovations.

Nathan is amazing! He is very responsive, thoughtful, and communicative. I’m excited for the continued improvements in the club under his leadership“

“Don't play Tennis. Reason for unlikely response above“

“I have been a mbr for 6 years. The managers of the club have very seldom spoken to me to ask how things are going. They really don’t do anything I’ve seen to promote a friendly concerned atmosphere that would encourage me to try to bring in other new members. I really regret having this attitude but I haven’t seen any improvement in this regard for 6 years. It would be so much nicer if I felt the people in charge were actually making an effort to create a friendly club atmosphere but they don’t seem to feel that’s part of their job description. My parents were members of Oak Hills CC whenI was growing up and you couldn’t have a meal there without being greeted“

“I would be embarrassed to bring a guest much less refer someone to our facility. There is more piss on the floor than in the sewer line“

Additional Comments

“19th hole is very loud, can hear conversation at other tables as good as your table. When children are playing, you can’t hear anything“

“I am pleased with the recent changes and communication. Big improvement. But can we please get a reliable ice maker for the tennis courts?! And bathrooms at tennis area need an upgrade“

“The golf courses and their poor conditions over the past couple of years reduces one's view of the value for the price. As the conditions improve the value will be more representative of the pricing“

“Please communicate to the wait staff, the importance of respect to all members“

“Club is wonderful! Its design and trim (carpet) is super dated. The golf course, thank goodness is WHOLLY better in just the last few months! I do have to say, our interactions with Debbie in the front office leave us feeling like she is fake, and she either likes you or not“

“Main facilities could use some updating“

“It appears things are headed in the right direction, I hope the Mens locker room area is still going to be redone“

“Enforce dress code no t shirts at Sunday brunch“

“Social events, (chef dinners, brunches, etc are too costly)“

Additional Comments

“Golf mgt poor food and bev mgt poor “

“Bathrooms and lockers are outdated“

“This club and course should be a pinnacle of clubs in San Antonio. If changes aren't made to the club house, and the continued dedication to both courses, you will lose members. TPC has a much better golf & club experience for way less”

“URGENTLY need to re do the bathrooms and showers/ steam bath including floors And carpets next to the gym . They are honestly in very very bad shape . Thanks“

“The electronic communication needs to be streamlined/fixed. My husband and I should both be able to log into our online account/make payments, etc. It's really strange - he's the primary member so is the only one who can make changes/payments, but despite several attempts, he doesn't get promotional emails about what's happening at the club. I also think you need a program specifically to help people become golf members. I've talked to a couple people about this. Neither my husband nor I are good enough golfers to justify the membership. But you don't offer anything that would help us get better other than one lesson a quarter... which isn't going to do the trick... not sure what the answer is...“

“Updates to the clibouse and event spaces is desperately needed. I would love to have events at the club, but the dates decor and run down look of the facilities makes me eaotant to do so “

“While things are getting better since new ownership, the value is not there yet. Though things look encouraging that they may one day be“
