“Fairways should be more lush - a lot of skinny lies“
“Ttimes are always fine even when going on line right when they open. You go there and nobody there at times!!!!”
“It would be great to have carts running between the parking lot and proshop on the weekends (FRiday, Saturday and Sunday) between 7:3010:30am to provide member shuttle and our bag. This concierge service would enhance member experience”
“We need Marshall's on the course to keep players from driving so close to the greens, and monitoring people that jump on the course without tee times or even paying!”
"Too many people playing on a regular basis who are not members. Rules need to be enforced”
“It seems that some people get preferential treatment securing tee times. I will log in at 7am and earliest tee time I can get is 10am. While some people get the very first tee time everytime"
“The staff in golf staging area do a great job in getting my clubs, setting up the cart and taking care of my bag”
“During summer tee times should start at 6:30 am; water on the course is sporadic-with Houston heat this should be a priority”
“Like to see the return of ball washers and water coolers, especially in summer. Good to see the Cypress refreshment bar return on weekends. I enjoy the cart servers. Lots of clubs use GPS in carts to monitor speed of play”

Courses need to be more consistent through out the golf course
I would like Ryan Kern to be the next GM
The club management and ground crew Managed by Randy have done an excellent job over the past few years to bring the courses up to excellent status. I’m sure it wasn’t easy and it was expensive. Cudos to all who have marked this happen.
I would like Ryan Kern to be the next GM
Staff is strong and welcoming.
Best condition the greens have ever been in the last 35 years
The green and bunker renovations are great. Also the work on tree cleanup is great. Need to work on leveling fairways, better drainage, and cart path repair. I go to other courses that have water on the course, which helps. Also we are a private club, why can’t we get alcohol Sunday morning like other clubs
Practice range is poor, the back practice range is in better shape. Sand bunkers are very poorly maintained and aggravating compared to municipal courses I play.
One of the cart drivers is not friendly
Golf Comments
Need to work on the bunkers. In the bottom of some you hit the carpet when swinging through the ball.
Very good at this time.
Locker Room needs to be attended at all time. If you play late and then early shoes dirty and sometimes wet not good.
Sweetwater CC has gone downhill in almost every way over recent years. Hopefully new ownership caring a little more about golf and removing Gary Ray can lead to improvements.
I would like to see more marshals out on the course to pick up the pace of play. Even if the course is not busy it can get bottlenecks with slow players. Also, some of the slow play is golfers that are walking. I agree they should be allowed to walk, but we need to find a way so they don't slow play for others.
Many members do not rake sand traps or repair ball marks on greens or follow cart rules.
Need chipping area in front. Add golf ball cleaning in a few holes. Seems like a small upgrade but yields a ton of value.
Could we get a covering over the driving range like Braeburn has?
The bunkers need to be more friendly
Would like to see occasional benches for walkers on tee boxes. Some plantings or flowers also to dress them up. Maybe mowing a walking strip to connect the tee areas.
Golf Comments
The bunkers rarely groomed. Course restrooms are in terrible condition. Practice range mats are in poor shape and we rarely get to hit off of the grass.
Conditions of the greens and fairways are in the best shape they have been in years. Cart paths need repair as well as bulkheads. Tunnels need to be cleaned or closed
I forgot to mention that it would be an advantage to the value of the property of the club if you would consider replanting trees on the various holes. Aside from this last storm, we always lost trees here or there and none were ever replaced. Now we have lost over 100 trees which are behind my house. I think it would be a great investment if they were consider planting new trees once a year or at least as they lose them. Greens, fairways are better than they have been in years, I hope they continue to improve.
The pitching area at the back of the range needs better green maintenance. It would be great if they were maintained as well as the putting and chipping area.
I really would like the club to address the water coming from my next-door neighbors house onto the fairway of number 15 pecan. Their pool is leaking and they keep refilling it with water which continues to leak and it is eventually going to encroach to the middle of the fairway. It has grown from a small puddle to, a very large area and it never gets mowed as the machines can’t go there because they would get stuck. It has become like quicksand and migratory. Birds are hanging out there now. Mosquitoes are breeding there. The house is basically abandoned as their only son lives in New York , the homeowner passed away and his wife is in assisted-living. You need to send them a letter or call them. If you need that information, please let me know.

The grass of the ranges are not growing fast enough from all the lessons from the pro shop and the high school students practices. The golf mats up front need to be refreshed annually at least from the wet and tear. The practice ranges are in no better condition than the public ones
Should have couple of bottle waters and ice to start. I play in the mornings and sometimes there is no water or old water sitting in warm water.
Lack of bunker maintenance, inconsistent sand levels, bare spots fairways, around greens
Cart paths are awful. Water features embarrassing.
Practice range mats are in bad shape. Could also use good practice bunker, and marks for distance for short game.
Driving range is always in terrible shape.
better sand traps on the near range. Ball washers.
The payday smga takes up spots for othered. Don’t close a course for that just mix everyone together. Same with the ladies dates. What does it hurt to accommodate all members
Good improvements in the last 12 months. Monthly dues appear excessive
Your most valuable asset is your golf course Superintended. Please make sure to keep him happy. Thank you very much
A lot of members and guests do not take care of the course. Drive carts everywhere and don’t rake traps or fix divots.
Golf Comments
The practice facilities and range can be much improved. The quality of the golf balls, the mats, and the grass and all poorly maintained.
Damaging greens with mowers on green undulations. Equipment damage to fairways/rough due to wet areas after watering. Picking up debris (limbs and such) very poor. Condition around the clubhouse is a poor reflection of course condition. Practice areas areas are used significantly by non-members evenings and weekends. We need SWCC bag tags and improved policing of the course. Signage and improved upkeep in practice areas should suggest individual responsibility. Fairways are generally cut too tight (inadequate turf even in the best bermuda growing conditions. Maintenance crew do not respect the value of quality work (my view).
While the courses are in good condition now, there are times where maintenance has not been done when needed.
Overall, nice improvements over the last year or so. I hadn't played at the club in awhile, so it was nice to see the upgrades to the bridges, bunkers, and greens, in particular.
The overall golf course is good. There are areas that need extra attention. For example Pecan 18 fairway is a washboard and needs to be leveled out on the primary landing areas from 150 to 210 yds out. After the rains, many bunkers need more sand in cover the mesh in the bottom.
Please please please do something about the water hazards with no water in them. For example #8 Pecan. These are unsightly and take away from all the good work done on the golf course
Pro shop could be better.
The cart paths are TERRIBLE! The restrooms on the course look like they are rarely serviced. We need some trash cans on the course for water bottles, etc. It would also be nice to see a couple ball washers.
Golf Comments
Fairways seem to always be cut very short. The could be left longer for better lies.
Practice balls are sub par
The beverage/snack cart service is very sub par. I cannot count how many times I am golfing on a Friday/Saturday/Sunday (busiest golf days) with a client or friends and do not see a single beverage cart for almost the entire round and sometimes the entire round. This needs to change immediately for the amount of money you are charging members for golf. Many members feel the same way.
I would like to see the ponds restored. It could look beautiful with the ponds filled, but it makes the course look rundown in their current state.
Need new mats with tees built in Bunker care could be better with more consistent sand quality
Bunkers in poor condition - all the bunkers on both courses need sand added to them
Should bring back ball washers and trash cans to at least some of the holes. Bathrooms need an upgrade and need to be kept clean.
Botha the grass in the back and the mats at the front are in very poor condition compared to other clubs in the area. Probably the thing I’d most like changed. Some of the edges of the fairways and rough can get some pretty bare spots that could use some sort of consistent texture rather than dried mud or tree roots. Overall I think the courses are both very well maintained for the cost of the club but the range is abysmal
The greens are good, but there are a lot of fair to poor areas of the courses. Bunkers have been subpar for quite some time.
Bathroom on 4cypress was filthy last time I played
Golf Comments
Needs better range balls and gps on the cart.
Cart paths need replacing. Mats on range need replacing.
Need to completely redo cypress greens 1, 2, 4, 14, 16, and 17. There are terribly designed with very limited hole locations. The severe and unnecessary undulations cause issue for the mowers which cause damage to them. ALL members need to be responsible for taking care of the course during their rounds including taking bunkers, fixing divots/ball marks, and driving ONLY in approved areas. We need a Marshall with teeth to regulate pace of play. There were 3 empty holes last week causing several groups to quiet. Have the superintendent teach his staff to do more things correctly. We will get much more value from him teaching/supervising than just heads down fixing things my himself which we see all the time.
Pace of Play has been a problem for years. We do NOT marshall the course and the rare times we do the individual just drives around and waves.
When I signed up I was told that I could get a one time benefit ( max of 6 months) of putting my membership on hold for medical issues. Two of my friend were able to use it ( one about a year to year & a half ago). Now I have a knee issue I need to take care of. So I need 3-4 months off.
Under the new management I am being denied that option. Looks like the only option left is to quit the club. Depending on how it goes, I may be forced to do that. Did not expect that at SWCC. Several of my friends at other clubs were surprised just like me!
Wish we had some covered practice area on the range. Riverbend has done a nice job with that. Houston summer heat makes it miserable to be out there in the summer.
Cypress greens are poorly designed. Pace of play is horrible have we considered using the cypress course for handicaps above 12 on Saturday’s and Sunday’s? Slower groups should always allow faster groups to play through regardless of time of play
Golf Comments
Need more XXL attire. Very nice staff
The issues are numerous.
1. The pace of play is so beyond bad it's got a lot of us looking to move to another Club. It's always one or 2 groups early that create the log jam. Normally it a foursome or fivesome of walkers with the average handicap of 15+. They simply have no idea what they are doing and believe that a 4 hour and 15 minute round of golf is fine no matter how many groups they slow down. It's idiotic really! If you know how to play ready golf playing a 3 hour and 20 minute round should be very achievable. Anybody who is in the golf business should understand that Slow Play is the biggest enemy to the growth of golf. Speed it up and it will bring new people into the game that otherwise don't have 5 hours to do it.
2. We have a very large group of members that do not rake bunkers and do not fix ball marks. We have allowed this to happen because we are letting people in that simply do not know Golf Etiquette when it comes to both slow play and maintaining the condition of the golf course and it appears nobody employed by the club can or will do anything about it. There should be a video that new members should see and sign off on before joining. Violators should be fined or maybe suspended from being able to play before a certain time.
3. Pen placements, Where do I start? It's insane to me that this is not a bigger priority for the superintendent. The #1 thing golfers care about are the greens and with some pens being put side hills or very close to them is mind boggling. Also, they often get put within only a few feet from where the greens are damaged (especially on Cypress which I will address in a minute). I spoke to the gentleman who sets the pens the other day and he told me his only marching orders is to put the holes in whatever quadrant the pre-printed pen placement sheet says he needs to. My question is Who needs a pen sheet anymore??? Literally everyone has a range finder. Furthermore, when the pens are put in more reasonably flat areas (that have grass) people make more putts which leads to lower scores, faster play and happier members. It's really pretty simple and both the Golf Pros and Super's job much easier. Not really sure why I need to even explain it.

4. As far as each course goes Pecan looks great, I've actually never seen it as good!. The traps being very bare in areas is my only complaint.
On to the Cypress course- I'm a scratch golfer, a former PGA Pro, College Golfer and former playing pro and I've never seen greens as poorly designed as those on Cypress. Prior to the re-do I thought about telling Gary Ray that they needed to take out some of the Undulation because there was far too much of it and it really limited the pen placements but I figured he knew, my mistake I guess. Looking back on it I'm not sure he ever saw the course with his own eyes.
To my astonishment, the company that did the redesign added far more undulation. I kept telling the guys I play with that there was no way they would be able to keep grass on some of the "Mountain Tops" that were added. In case you haven't noticed water runs off sharp mounded objects. Also, the greens mowers have been shaving off the Tops of all the knobs, 2 & 3"s on some of them. You have to get a hand mower going forward to have any chance keeping those greens alive.
With that said there are 6-7 greens that need to be shut down and redesigned, I'll list those in order of bad to good below with comments.
#2- the guy who designed this green had to be intoxicated on something. It's so bad I can't even describe. Blow it up and start over. Wow!
#17- Not much behind #2. Blow it up and start over.
#1- All you need to see is the canyon on the middle left part of the green. Either fill it in and make it flat like rest of the green that surrounds it or blow it up all together.
#14- Just play it or take a look at how the greens mowers have ruined the tops of the Undulation. It's got to be blown up and redone.
#16- Fill in the Crater in and re-sod that area in the front of the green to match the surrounding surface and the problem will be solved. Not only was the redesign stupid you're going to have a problem at the bottom of that crater forever because that's where all the water runs off- same as #1.
#18- It's really bad but I could live with it because there's plenty of pen placements that still remain.
Junior instruction is both poor and expensive. Very little focus on learning the game. On multiple occasions I or my peers have had to lean on instructors to take the kids out on the course instead of playing golf-adjacent games or pitch and putt.
We are members at SWCC largely for the opportunities it may present our children - golf instruction has sorely disappointed. We don’t bring them here for babysitting - we bring them to learn and enjoy golf.

Members are allowed to play in large groups, which tends to slow down the play. Also, should the policy related to walkers be revisited? Again, this often slows the play. Maybe if the courses were marshaled the pace could improve and/or be more consistent.
Pace of play is soooo slow and 5/6 people playing together
Our members should have a better culture of golf etiquette (repair your divots, tuck your shirt, etc) more benefitting of a nice private club. The maintenance crew does not clean up broken tees from the tee boxes. Sand frequently not in the boxes of par 3's and near the restrooms. Sand box and a box for broken tees should be on each par 3.
- Sand traps need maintenance, the lining is exposed in many traps.
- Cart paths need repairs
- A plan is needed to repair the lakes that are drained
Many of the "condition of" comments are weather dependent.
Most bunkers need more sand and more regular prep. Part of the issue is players not raking, but part is thin sand that doesn't prep well.
Getting tee times is spotty - sometimes easy, sometimes the website throws my out even after I've "claimed" a tee time but before I can fully complete it.
New owners are looking fantastic and bring a lot of hope. I can see the effort snd its appreciated.
They must do something about dining experience, so fw members eat here and that’s a shame ! But the history of poor food and worse service will be very hard to overcome.
Golf staff is excellent but new rules are a problem. Fining golfers $18 for riding in a cart alone. Requiring singles to pair up. Allowing full members a 5th day for tee times v 4 days for seniors. Never been a member where the club tried so hard to get seniors to quit. I enjoyed my 1st 5 years as a member; equal chance of getting tee times and playing as a single but the last couple years I’m not playing as much.
Golf Comments
At times I feel like a customer playing at a municipal course. The level of service from the golf dept doesn’t represent a private club. Jesus does a great job. The golf staff doesn’t pay attention to details like the embarrassing condition of the front range, or hold certain members accountable who don’t follow etiquette on our courses.
Pecan is in good shape despite some bunkers. 5 or 6 Cypress greens are poorly designed resulting in a bad playing experience with impossible pin positions, and many bare spots due to poor mowing due to severe undulations.
Golf staff, in general, doesn’t give SWCC a true members club feel.
The condition of the greens on pecan is good, however, the cypress greens slopes appear to be being scalped during mowing. multiple greens have areas of no grass growing. There are attempts being made to remedy the situation, but to date, no progress. Multiple bunkers have no sand above the fiber liners. Someone is likely to get injured as the liners are starting to tear. Both courses are suffering from this. the original fill in the bunkers (crushed stone?) has been replaced with sand, which appears to be migrating through the liners, whereas the original fill didn't migrate (or migration was slower). The sand migrating through will probably fill the drain piping over time, leading to more problems. a solution is needed.
The practice ranges are generally in decent condition. However, the junior teaching sessions should be off the mats, as when they are going off the grass, there is significant loss of grass (not the juniors fault, as they are just learning).
Golf course is much better compared to years back. Would like to see better drainage specifically in bunkers. SWCC spent a ton a money renovating bunkers years back and there has been little to no change. Also the driving range is embarrassing compared to the other clubs. When I take clients or buddy’s out we don’t even hit on the range due to its condition. Sand everywhere.
Considering the hot conditions, it would be nice for the marshal to provide players cold wet towels during their round. This used to be a common occurrence.
You need to have marshals on the golf course to maintain the pace of play. Sometimes it really gets backed up with slow players
Golf Comments
Only been a member for a few weeks. The golf is great and am very pleased with the fitness center and amenities. Haven’t used the pool yet but like the options. Hope to participate in some of the free activities going forward.
I started playing SWCC in 1983 and while I was a PGA Tour member in 1984 and 1987. The golf course was in fantastic condition at that time, so the bar is pretty high in my mind for what SWCC can be.
Greens are most important. They are much improved since the redo and typically very playable. They can be maintained with less grain, less grass, and play firmer and faster. The mowing is quite haphazard along with hole setting. There is no excuse for these things not getting better supervision.
Fairways are generally decent. We kept carts off the fairways a couple of winters and that dramatically helped with compaction and playability.
Tees are coming back, but they've been horrible. Overall, the turf should be cut shorter.
Bunkers were pretty good right after being redone. They are getting into a terrible state of disrepair already. Most bunkers have little sand in the bottom where the ball settles, and we've all hit the cloth under the sand many times now. Crews rarely even rack the bunkers now, and our membership it awful about raking on top of all this. Our group plays the ball up in the bunkers because they are so poorly maintained.
The turf on the range badly needs to be redone. I recommend getting a good artificial turf tee on the back of both ends. The practice greens and bunkers on the back of the range used to be great and are poorly maintained now.
Staff throughout our club seems very poorly trained from top to bottom. We do not have the experience we should at a potentially good club at the dues level we spend. We have a few really good people, but for the most part service sucks.
We need a great GM and F&B manager ASAP!!
Golf Comments
The fairways grass quality and feel is at the lowest end of the spectrum compared to any private club courses in the Greater Houston area. The bunkers used to be in excellent shape. Lately, they have gone down in quality significantly.
Beverage / cart service starts way too late to be useful
Need Starters and Marshall to actively engage members to fix ball marks, RAKE BUNKERS and keep pace of play moving. Would also consider not allowing 5 somes before 9:00 AM, as course gets very backed up early. Often there is trash floating in the ponds near the putting green and as you walk in from the parking lot to the golf area. This should be addressed every morning to make sure the golf area and club looks nice as you would expect.
Access to back range limited in the cooler morning hours because of Teaching Academy.
Course is generally in good shape. Putting range mats are in rough condition.
Range needs to stay open late. Water and tees need to be available at more holes - like it used to be.
Bunkers need to be raked, dead grass removed and fluffed daily
There is no rough, Rough needs to be mowed higher and defined. dead areas under trees should have mulch or pine straw.
On-course restrooms need to be repaired and cleaned of dead bugs, air-conditioned, and daily.
Greens need to be cut and rolled more frequently, they are very inconsistent. Practice range needs to be rotated front to back so that grass can grow. I am always hitting out of divots no sand is replaced. Please get rid of the tacky yellow balls. Please replace the 20-year-old mats.
Club is a reasonable price for senior players but any increase would probably mean serious cost benefit review for seniors over 65.

Our Restrooms are an embarrassment. No air conditioning or fans. Cleanliness is awful.
The course restrooms are an atrocity and an embarrassment. The practice range and mats are in poor condition and rarely do we get to practice on actual grass before our tournaments. Bunkers are rarely groomed for our playdays and tournaments. It would be nice to have trash cans at the tees. How are walkers supposed to dispose of their trash-carry it around for the whole round? Also, it is too bad that Sweetwater has gotten rid of the wall washers. The lakes are a mess-rarely do they have water in them anymore and they are not well taken care of and are an eyesore. There is no longer any landscaping on the course around the tee boxes, cart path turnarounds at the greens, etc. in general, the course is not very pretty.
Practice mats need changed on range. Need another practice putting green. Concrete golf paths need to be repaired.
Need new golf range hitting mats
I'd like to see ball washers at tee boxes, water at water stations, and add more stations.
Need water on course, not ice chests; reinstall ball cleaners; black seats on carts is crazy with our sun/heat
We've been travelling recently and haven't played as much as we wished this year.
Bathrooms and driving range need some work (bathrooms are horribly bad)
The pace of play needs to be more rigorously enforced, especially with groups that are hogging the morning tee times.
I like the updates to both courses.
Golf Comments
Would be nice if we could have a chipping area near the putting green.
The practice facility range can be improved. The mats are pretty new but they look old because they are not well taken care off. The flag sticks and aim points can be improved. Definitely the drainage because if it it even has 1-2 inches of rain, the range is closed. The short distance green in back range needs better practice area.

Staff needs to clean indoor and outdoor courts at the end of each day. Often times the courts are a mess with overflowing trash cans, random tennis balls, used towels and debris.
During summer tennis camps, one or two outdoor courts need to be reserved for members. The camps monopolize all of the outdoor courts from 8-12. Many times, there are only 2-3 campers on one court.
Some nets need replacing and have for some time.
“Don't use these facilities”
“Water coolers were provided previously. it would be nice to have access to water for the outdoor courts”
“You should leave a few courts open in the early evenings so people can play. The tennis programs for jr's take up all the courts”
“Answers are average, I do not use tennis facilities”
“i don't play tennis, but interested in more regular pickle ball group opportunities. We are interested in playing, but still not sure how to meet up with others. . .
“
“Better shaded areas needed, deckings replaced. Would like to see tennis charity events or bigger tournaments for a cause ”
“I don’t play tennis but I have been a member since 1989 and just wanted to comment that the golf bunkers have been average or below for 35 years sorry
” “Availability of indoor courts in the summer is understandably difficult. Love the use of TopDog for scheduling and seeing upcoming events”

“Outside courts during the summer in the morning are not available. Inside courts are dirty”
“Haven’t used tennis”
“I don’t play tennis but would like to play“
“More lessons should be available. The junior tennis program is not good. We only stay due to proximity and actually want to stop. Need more coaching and better drills. The coaches are nice. Need more Optiosn for tennis lessons. Eric and Sal are great btw”
“The indoor courts are great, but we could benefit from some more light and for the clubhouse doors to be open to the restrooms during the league. The outdoor courts need some work, especially the sun decks and covers. There are nails sticking up and down from the overhead wood. The covers are few and far between. There should be water on the courts for league events”
“need improvement of shade areas next to outdoor courts. surfaces and water/bathroom area ”
“Haven't used the tennis courts. Hope to start using pickleball courts if enough available”
“The entrance to the tennis courts is very dirty, and that gives bad impression to the club”
“1. need full size wind screens
2. new seating/rest areas
3. need cold water dispenser
4. prices for events/activities are too high; i.e. $50/couple for mxd pickleball”
Tennis Comments
“I hope the leaking roofing is fixed“
“Play indoor pickleball on the basketball courts. There seems to be a lot of interest however the nets always seem to be falling apart. Wish there were back-up nets instead of having to wait and ask and ask for new ones “
“My daughter has participated in the youth tennis program and some private lessons, but we have not otherwise utilized the tennis facility“
“I would like to see more leagues and drills with pickleball. Mens, women and mixed. “
“Looking forward to having actual pickleball courts. Currently play inside on one side of the basketball court. We are always in competition with kids who want to play basketball. Teens can be pretty rude as they think they are the only ones who can have access to the basketball court“
“I have never used the Tennis Facilities however their appearance and the facilities look good“
“Tennis program does NOTHING for the adult male members. Knowing that the ladies are the majority users ($$) of the club w/ leagues, lessons, required drills, etc. & juniors a close 2nd. That being said, the men are totally ignored. Have been members here 18 yrs, the men's tennis program has sunk to a virtually non-existent level. When we joined there were regular events to bring in all members (men & women) & get them involved in the club & tennis. Now: NOTHING“
“Would like to see men ’ s double leagues for pickleball & tennis”
“A beginner class would be nice, as some friends who have considered joining don’t feel like they have an entry into tennis at Sweetwater“
Tennis Comments
“More ball machines needed, or more members in the 30-40 age bracket playing. Hard to find a game, but generally ok to find drills.
Courts are in good shape, though the indoor facility continues to have issues with leaks leading to water on the court. Very limited options for men ’ s clothing in the pro shop.
Junior instruction is good in small groups, but orange ball drills are generally overrun. Limited learning of the game - instructor to player ratio is too low. If some kids are a distraction, trainers should have the option to send offending kids home“
“Prices on kids tennis camps seem on the higher side in comparison to other clubs“
“Staff and events are excellent! Courts could use some maintenance“
“My only issue with court availability is that indoor courts are often not available in the afternoon until 7:00, due to Juniors. Also, I occasionally play doubles on Friday afternoon earlier, but availability is often limited due to Pros having courts booked for lessons. If there is availability, it is only the 2:004:00 window typically.
I would love to see dedicated pickle ball courts built, rather than having to use the tennis courts with painted PB lines and temporary nets. I've been told that this may happen, but nothing official has been announced.
“Would like to see men ’ s double leagues for pickleball & tennis”
It would be great to have more men's events. It seems like we only have a couple inter club events each year, so it would be fun to see more of those (and to get more for the tennis association cost...for men)“
“Less camps and pro lessons so that members can book a court during the day“
Tennis Comments
“Haven’t used the tennis facilities. I think you require extra charges to use the indoor courts. Don’t intend to pay additional charges to use them“
“Disorganized. Poor communication“
“Lights indoor are dull again - needed to keep one to two outdoor courts for morning play during the summer “
“My daughter plays tennis and we LOVE the coaches!“
“The tennis program is in great shape. The green mold on the walls inside of the indoor courts needs to be cleaned and removed”
“Very limited drop in drills. There used to be numerous drop in drills for women only. Dont exist now “
“Need a lot more work on condition of courts, and need some more sun shades, the big sail types”
“Jr. camp takes too all courts at the same time. There is nothing available“
Pool & Fitness at Sweetwater
“Don’t use the pools. The entrance to the athletic center (doors and entry area as you walk up the steps) need to be cleaned regularly. There is often cob webs and bugs caught in webs and other debris in area around the doors. This doesn’t give a good first impression“
“I would like to see more of a resort style“
“Personnel at Athletic building are very helpful and courteous“
“Vary rarely use fitness facility and never use pool“
“Pool can use a lot of work including maintenance of pool conditions, aesthetics, hot tub functioning, etc.“
“Fix the indoor pool so it has 4 lanes. Fix the hot tub. It looks horrible and would be used by a lot of members“
“The outdoor pool needs a refocus to more family and kid centered. I enjoy the indoor pool for laps“
“Fitness area is nice. I have not used the pool In a long time“
“I hardly ever use the club and when I do I will use the gym and almost every time I have gone they are out of towels. It’s absurd. Order more towels, add more towel return baskets or change the color of the towels to a brighter color so they don’t get taken off property. It does not feel like a private country club“
“Historical pool Operations have been terrible. Please disregard if changes have already been made“
“Indoor pool could be skimmed more often as well as cleaning the pool deck more frequently“
Pool & Fitness at Sweetwater
“Never had a problem with fitness“
“Gym and restrooms in the gym need upgrading“
“Haven used fitness or pool. Am interested in fitness classes, but haven’t looked. To me the pool area is a waste. There is a massive opportunity to upgrade that area and make it a summer destination. Have a full grill/bar area and have staff available to bring food and drinks to people lounging by the pool. Things like sports pool areas and splash pads and kids areas go a long way to attract families. Just a basic pool doesn’t do much“
“New weight lifting bar are needed. Some of them are old and rusty. Please put signs asking members to put up after use “
“I did not even know there was a snack bar at the pool”
“The pool is rarely cleaned. Chlorine levels don't seem to be monitored very well. The outdoor whirlpool is closed; it needs to be upgraded“
“buy some towels!
clean the walls, fans, window sills. equipment seems clean but not the gym itself. clean the mats, more and bigger tvs would be nice.
Don't use the pool anymore but if you had a resort pool with food and bar service we would definitely use that“
“Many times I had found the indoor pool to be cloudy. It was closed and cleaned up after I made the observation. I appreciate the quick response but I was hoping for proactiveness to avoid it in the first place. Scored higher simply due to the response “
“It’s dirty with a lot of bugs in both pools. It’s not near as nice as the first colony aquatic center. This area of the club needs to definitely be updated. People will use nice things and there is a big reason why these two pools are not used. It ends up being a waste of money if it isn’t nice and isn’t being used“
Pool & Fitness at Sweetwater
“The indoor pool building, concrete by the tables, and tables/chairs could all use a good cleaning. I get my feet dirty just walking to the table to get to my shoes. I also fight the urge to skim the pool almost every time I come because there are usually leaves in the pool. I’m sure it’s difficult to keep immaculate though since stuff can still blow in from the side.
Love fitness classes with Meredith. She does a great job and I really enjoy that type of class“
“Outdoor pool structure/bathroom is old and needs replacement“
“A couple of the fitness items are in very poor condition. The leg extension machine is very cheap and falling apart. This machine is used by many and constantly commented on how gross it is. The ceiling fans and area around the equipment are dusty. Some wall mirrors are broken. The workout mats are filthy and rarely cleaned. The work staff should clean them daily“
“The indoor pool needs modernization“
“Still let too many non members in, I understand guests but I still feel some random middle school and high school kids. Even adults probably“
“1. Better shade areas at outdoor pool
2. Jacuzzi in operating order
3. Allow outdoor pool to be open later than 7 pm. during summer months“
“Great staff at front desk during mornings. Jimmy does a great job.
TopDog classes are excellent. Rhonda G. does a great job.
Cleaning of fitness center needs to be reviewed“
Pool & Fitness at Sweetwater
“The fitness center has some old equipment. Enhancing the experience with modern equipment that utilizes modern tech would be a welcomed improvement. There are areas on the glass wall that are broken and have yet to be repaired. The basketball court needs a refresh. There is tape all over the court for other sports but not removed when complete which is accelerating the deterioration of the floors. The men ’ s locker room could use a major makeover, it feels very dated“
“bring back the hot tub”
“Great fitness facility. Always have a machine available to use. Indoor pool is top-notch. Outdoor pool could use some work. The bathrooms are super outdated and many times not clean. And could use more shade“
“The fitness center is in dire need of new development. First the person at desk needs to be more knowledgeable of the fitness center. And the club doesn’t need to pay 2 people to sit behind desk when one is fine. Have the second person man the desk in fitness center. That way they can control the fitness center“
“Indoor pool is often not clean“
“Use the fitness area on my own and take some group classes. Instructors are great! The fitness area seems to be very warm ever since something was fixed (the boilers, maybe) Fans might help, but are not on So many times there are No towels“
“For the Fitness area: There needs to be a better coordination for the basketball court now that the pickleball nets are there. For Example, maybe there should only be 2 pickleball nets on the basketball courts during the Summer when kids are out of school so that they can still have access to the basketball court to be able to utilize one side while pickleball uses the rest of the space.
For the Pool area: The hot-tub has been out of service for quite some time. It would be nice to have that renovated“
Pool & Fitness at Sweetwater
“The fitness machines, specifically the cable unit, needs to be cleaned and lubricanted more often. Many people don’t put away their barbells, mats or other fitness apparatus“
“Outdoor pool staff are friendly but sit around and do not clean the pool. It is often full of leaves as are the debris traps. People leave their pool toys behind. It is a mess. They do not stock towels. The indoor pool water is not clean. You can be swimming along and you have someone's hair stuck in your fingers. I recently went up to work out at 8:15pm all the lights were turned off in the treadmill area. TV's were off in the treadmill area and weight room. I worked out in the dark then went downstairs to get in the sauna for a few minutes approximately 8:40 and the door to the saunas and pool was locked. I went upstairs to the desk to see what was going on and there was a gentleman letting the worker know how unhappy he was with the lights being off. I had to agree with him. If the athletic area closes at 9 it should be open and operational until 9. I have enjoyed working out up there but half the time there are no towels, there are young children playing on the equipment and the saunas and whirlpool are not in good working condition. In the dry sauna there are broken seat boards and trash under the platform. The sauna is not cleaned by the staff as people leave their towels and trash on the benches”
“The gym being open an hour later would allow for evening workouts similar to competing facilities. I wish we had a resort style pool with food and drink service similar to competing clubs“
“I have never used the pool so am unable to comment other than to say the facility looks like it is kept up and clean“
“Is the outdoor pool going to eventually have food and beverage service?”
“Out of small towels most of the time“
“I believe there are updates underway, but cabanas and poolside service would be nice“
“Never use the pools. Almost never see any staff around“
Pool & Fitness at Sweetwater
“Would love to spend more time at the pool with the kids and our friends, but it’s more fun/easier to do it at someone ’ s home currently. Please make it more family friendly“
“I only use the indoor pool for exercise. Indoor pool is not cleaned often. Hot tub need to be repaired and put back in service“
“Pool needs a lot of work - looking forward to what the board and new investor group has promised coming to fruition.
Athletics options are very limited. Would like access to a trainer and nutritionist, but those haven’t been on staff for years. Having more staff attend the desk is a step in the right direction, but the local Y still has better staff, programs, and amenities at a very small fraction of the cost“
“Group X room is often hot, mirrors and floor not cleaned regularly. Room clock should be digital or have a second hand. Fitness instructors are uniformly excellent and the classes are top notch“
“There is no normal snack bar at the outdoor pool. There should be a bar and grill or at least a consistent food and rink service. Also, there is a desperate need for shade and new furniture“
“pool is always dirty“
“There is a leak over basketball courts that needs fixing and the lines for pickelball should b replaced“
“Use indoor pool only“
“Earlier weekend opening“

“Precor ellipticals are very good; the upright stationary bicycle seats and back are uncomfortable“
“Don’t use pool Rest rooms in fitness area really need updates. New toilet!“
“Fitness center has a lot of potential. But the gym is a mess a lot of equipment (jump ropes) go missing or are in poor condition. They let a bunch of teenagers who are not members in during the summer who make a mess and do not re rack. They only check in members who are actually members. The nonmembers are never checked I know this because a ton of the teenagers have been bold enough to say they are not members there while working out in our gym making a mess. Pool is disgusting locker room smells of mildew and needs renovation“
“Comments are only for the indoor pool. My son is a D1 swimmer that may use the facility very sporadically when home. I never use it, but it doesn't always appear clean/neat when I walk by when going to tennis. It may be more an issue of being old and outdated versus "clean".
I'm also curious if we allow outdoor swim teams to use the pool. I often see organized practices in the indoor pool, and I am not aware of any SWCC indoor swim teams (like the Surfers outside in summer), so it appears like we are allowing outdoor teams to have access?“
“I have been in the fitness center the past two days and haven’t seen a fitness instructor or employee on site“
“Stationary bikes are broken at times and the time to fix them can be a week or more. Other than that, equipment is more than adequate“
“Fitness center is fantastic. Haven’t used the pools but plan to in the future“
“Pool dirty all the time. Hot tub not operational for months/years“
“Need to clean fitness area, add slant boards, sauna needs a light“

“Don’t understand the goals of some of the front desk staff or why we have three sitting there in the evenings. Many many members ask this. Barely get greetings from the girls in the evening. Everyone just on their books or phones while kids run wild in the fitness area. The trainers and instructors are amazing though- top notch! The #1 pet peeve is the young kids under 10 running wild. I’ve seen kids climbing the railing over the b-ball courts, or jumping on the treadmills, or continually screaming at the top of their lungs with zero supervision while parents are at the bar. I don’t mean the kids whose parents are working out and watching them. Those kids are fine. Maybe evening front desk staff can also be paid by members to babysit. I’ve watched older members leave the fitness area because they couldn’t take the unsupervised kids being wild. I’ve had my own workouts interrupted by kids running up and jumping on the treadmills next to me while their parents are dining. Lifetime would never allow kids running around like that. It’s a big liability“
“Fitness center needs a major service upgrade. Towels and water cups are out most of the time, staff starts closing 20+ mins prior to 9PM, front desk staff is completely disengaged, kids can be seen using facilities, etc.”
“The out door pool area needs to be cleaned daily. Covered spa area is a joke. Outdoor pool needs updating to more resort-style amenities. Ie.water slide, walk-in kids area, furniture, wait staff.
“Much improved over the last year “
“We do not use the pool. As for the fitness equipment, I do the exercise classes and the weights and mats are showing their age. Mats are usually dirty and weights are worn. There is a shortage of heavier weights (7-8 pounds)“
“The indoor pool for winter swimming is awful. Ugly, cold, and miserable. We have our own summer outdoor pool“
“We NEED food and service at the pool. So many members would use that“
Pool & Fitness at Sweetwater
““I walk by pool area several times a week. There is never anyone there. Very disappointing considering a lot of money spent to renovate. Feel this was waste of funds. Only being used by summer league children group “
“I know improvements are in progress with the pool but having a resort style pool with drinks/snacks would be a huge draw to visit the club“
“Please invest more in outdoor pool area. Resort style slides, splash pad or even upgrade the bathrooms would be so much more inviting. Green space infront could add play structure for kids to enjoy“
“Pool bathrooms are awful, and so out of date. Pool feels empty, neglected, needs shade and more interest“

“Why can’t we keep a head chef????“
“Have not eaten dinner since the new Executive Chef started but, previously, food quality was uneven. Pizza and burgers were the only consistently good items“
“We now go to resrayrss as bra after golf instead of staying which we would prefer. Takes way too long after a hot game of golf and want smaller lunches at more affordable prices. Quick bite to eat afte golf. Salad bar/ soup and sandwich etc! $12 and under. Way o too expensive at dinner! Not good and too foo foo for what people want anything good they take off menu!”
“We have experienced longer than normal wait times during almost every visit where we've ordered a meal“
“I have been a member here since 1983 (a charter member) and the dining room service and menu has steadily declined over the past ten years, and now is the worst I have seen it since I've been a member!
The club dining experience use to be fun and a pleasure for our group of 15+ members. We always enjoyed the relationship that we had with all of the staff, and slowly over the years they have left for other clubs.
Out of our group, of 8 members, their are only two of us left, as all of the others have dropped their memberships and moved to other clubs, and are loving it again. The club now has no long term staff in the dining room or 4400 club, and the few new ones they have are not being trained very well on the service end.
Quite honestly SWCC just doesn't have the private club atmosphere any more. It feels more like a public course.
My friend and long time member, and former board member have suggested numerous improvements that could be made but they only fall on deaf ears.
We would welcome the opportunity to have a sit down roundtable discussion on the decline of the club, because it is going to continue losing membership at it's current pace.
There are two staff members still at the club that are as good as anyone from the past, and it would really hurt the club to have them leave”
Food and Beverage at Sweetwater
“The remodel made the 4400 very noisy and the dining room noisy. You may want to add some soft wall hangings or large plants that suppress the sound volume“
“Limited menu too often. Finish playing golf at 1pm on a Sun and I cannot even get a hamburger. All pricing is too high for the quality of the food/beverage. Kids running around all over the place with no supervision. Impossible to plan on a nice quiet dinner. Service has improved some but there are times I will sit at a table in the main dining room and it will take 5 minutes before anyone acknowledges my existence. Too much turnover in FB staff”
“Rick on the Wait staff is very personal and tries his best but food service is very slow. Very few gluten free items other than pizza on menu ”
“Wait staff require more attention towards dining members by checking more often for orders and removing dishes and other questions. Menu should be expanded to include more options of fish and lamb“
“F&B requires some attention. Service suffers from inadequate technology, untimeliness and retention challenges. Food is improving but selections and pricing require some attention. Hopeful the new menu will be more diverse and accommodating from a cost perspective“
“The menu needs upgrade, there is not many option for starter, need to bring potato skins, potato totts, dinning menu needs upgrade, We have wine locker but no cheese board“
“Restaurant food is inconsistent and only average quality for a club“
“You close too early“
“Restaurant food is inconsistent and only average quality for a club“
“The service staff is always slow, that is why we do not eat at the club often. The cost for a glass of wine is too high for the quality of wine served”
Food and Beverage at Sweetwater
“I have had some very poor experiences. My wife and I brought her mother, our son-in-law, daughter and two grandsons to the dinning room . There were few other members there..... Our booth had food on the floor.... drinks were slow arriving. food was slow arriving, my order came out after the others had arrived. My grandson had to eat off the table because the server did not bring a plate. my wife shared a meal with her mother and had to eat of the serving bowl ...... It was not fitting of a country club. You know Sugar Land has a lot of great food options. Our dinning room has to be spectacular in service to be successful . Service and catering to the wants and needs of the members is not even near what it is used to be. The dinning service lacks leadership. No wonder it is empty most of the time“
“Happy hours with special cocktails need to come back more fun events with music & dancing. Lunch specials & the salad bar needs to come back. I do have to say the staff has gotten better“
“Would prefer later weekend hours“
“I miss the old menu. Seafood pasta although it was way too spicy. Mushroom risotto. Desserts too“
“More vegetarian/vegan options“
“My comments on food quality/menu relate to prior to the new chef coming on board“
“Used to be able to go have cocktails at the bar after dinner but with such an early closing time and early last call during the weekend, it’s impossible to make it. Haven’t been to the bear in months“
“Wait times anfter ordering food are horrible. Some staff not very friendly. Need to add a real steak to the menu “
“Terrible experience with music on the patio. Total embarrassment to my wife and myself plus the couple we invited“
Food and Beverage at Sweetwater
“Your staff is minimum so service is slow. This drives people away. Your prices are comparable to a fine steak house like Perry’s so the value is low. This drives people away. Not impressed at all so we seldom dine there. Get a less expensive menu and more people will come “
“Nice improvement in attitude from staff with leadership changes the past few years “
“To go orders usually are wrong. No one is double checking order before placing in bag”
“Menu is no good. So much staff turnover. Empty promises on menu year after year. We avoid eating there. We would probably eat there weekly if menu was decent“
“After a round of golf in the middle of the week we wait 45 minutes at least to get our lunch“
“Please check if the bar can stay open little bit longer especially on weekends“
“They may have been having some bad days when I was in there. I had to cancel my pizza today after waiting for almost an hour. We also sat with no one checking on us to take our order for at least 20 minutes. Rick is a fabulous waiter and always does an incredible job. He was not our waiter”
“Fairly expensive to eat at club“
“For years I used Food and Beverage heavily in the Men's Card Room and once a month or plus restaurant dining. I gave up my locker and have only used Card Room a few times since a large number of long time friends left, Friday MGA golf broke down, the Card Room went non-smoking (even though members offered to fund hospital level air scrubbers) and Covid“
“More vegetarian items are needed. More salad choices are needed. But the recently upgraded menu is a good start“
Food and Beverage at Sweetwater
“The selections of wine need to be improved. I am a red wine drinker and the options for Pinot Noir in particular are not good. Also would like to see additional options of beer. i.e. Blue Moon or similar“
“absolutely no consistency. service is extremely slow. we went from eating there 2x/week to zero. it is too risky. might take 30 minutes to get a drink, food might be undercooked, order delivered Incorrectly. We had issues every time we dined there. Wait staff is nice enough just not well trained, POS system seems inadequate, kitchen hit and miss“
“Service timing is sometimes longer than normal. Certain functions have been under staffed making the timing poor “
“Need more healthy items on the menu The time it takes to order and receive food is crazy long I always sit down and order immediately as a result but I would go more often if I knew the kitchen would move faster. The wait staff is amazing and friendly, especially Rick. If it wasn’t for Rick, I would not be coming back with the long waits. Miguel is great in the card room as well. My wife would like more cocktails, but that may be just more advertising on key seasonal drinks. A happy menu for cocktails will bring in more people“
“Used to eat here more often, but oftentimes for the price, we can eat in a nicer restaurant. Service has improved, but food quality and pricing still needs work“
“The food is really bad Im extremely disappointed in the both the time it takes to receive the food and the quality of it It takes 30-45 minutes to get food which is just too long. it makes it impossible to go to on weekday evening as it takes too much time. Additionally the quality of the food is very poor. Is this microwaved food? The prices for the food are fine if the quality was there. but the value proposition is bad. Essentially im paying somewhat high prices, for food that is very poor and the wait is way too long. I dont like going there to eat because of this. If you had better quality food that was served timely i would eat there a few times a week. instead I find myself dreading to eat there and questioning why im a member. Please, PLEASE fix the food quality and time to deliver“
“Food has become very inconsistent with quality and ingredients. Putting cheddar cheese on a Philly cheese steak, burger patties varying in size/doneness. lack of beverage cart on golf course ”

“Food has become very inconsistent with quality and ingredients. Putting cheddar cheese on a Philly cheese steak, burger patties varying in size/doneness. lack of beverage cart on golf course “
“We pay a large sum of money in initiation and dues to be members We should not have to pay higher than average prices to eat at the club. We can go to Saltgrass Steak House and pay $18 for a chicken fried steak and the club wants nearly $30 for the same menu item. You are pricing yourself right out of competition with other restaurants. The wait staff is very apologetic when things are not cooked or served properly but it gets old for them and for us. Someone who is familiar with what is popular on restaurant menus here in Texas needs to make selections on menus choices. Put items on the menu that people actually want to eat“
“Would love to see another vegan and vegetarian option on the menu that includes a different plant based protein“
“Food value does not equal what you can get from nearby restaurants“
“Prices are high, quantity is poor. You can eat cheaper at many fine dinning places around here. Food in past lack taste and being prepared properly. To be fair I have not tried it since the new chef has been here“
“I think there should be more social activities for adults and not just focused around families. I miss the adult member happy hours and adult focused gatherings. Many of the members are 45+ and don't have kids at home anymore “
!I don't eat at 4400 too overpriced I have sandwiches/ dogs below or chili above”
“There seemed to be a reduction of available food for golfers downstairs. I'd like to see more food options”
“The food is not good and very expensive that is why I prefer to eat at different restaurants”
“For non alcoholic drinkers, I wish there are sparkling water(not club soda)“
Food and Beverage at Sweetwater
“1. wait times for food are unacceptably long
2. menu prices for food are most expensive in the city; there is no value in being a member
3. during brunch, my wife's entree was brought out 10 minutes after I received my entree; entrees should all be served at the same time
4. dining and 4400 hours should return to 10:00 pm closing time or later; after an evening of tennis or pickleball, there is no time to have a few drinks
5. activities/social function prices are too high; no value in being a member
6. eating and drinking at the club used to be my family's first option. Now it is not even a consideration due to poor hours/service/prices“
“Way too overpriced…..pretty much a deterant. I like the daily specials, drinks seem priced right but $18-20 burger is a joke. Wings and all appetizers too expensive. Pizza is priced right Raised the price of fish tacos like $10 and there was no change to the dish Goal should be to get people to use the dining and facilities and increase value. Question is if you got more people how bad would service get. I think service has improved quite a bit and everyone is friendly. Stuck waiting on kitchen a lot“
“Service can be slow at times (only issue)“
“Service is still well below average. Only one or two staff members provide decent service. Retention of your top performers needs improvement“
“Service to take orders, and time to receive food WAY too long. We have cut back on eating there after golf. Have started going elsewhere. Food quality is mixed. We have heard it was to get better, but hasn't Also too long to get the bill“
“I love the staff. They all know our names and make us feel super welcome. Unfortunately, the speed of service continues to be a problem. I don't mind taking 2 hours to eat a meal when it's just my family, but it's too long if I have a guest. The restaurant should target serving a business meal from sit down to get up in one hour. The food is good and I like the new chef“
“The restaurant is terrible. And has been for a long time. We’ve stopped going. Macdonald’s is a better choice. Service is slow. Quality of food poor. Just bad“
Food and Beverage at Sweetwater
“ I would dine more if the food was higher quality, tastier and healthier. Even the use of only high quality olive oil and avocado oil (no canola or unhealthy oils) would help greatly. And advertise the healthy choices the chef is making. That would certainly pull me and my neighbors in“
“Rick is amazing and Miguel as well SO wonderful!! We have been members for 20+ and would love to see a big improvement in the menu/food so that we'd feel confident to dine there more often“
“Last few time the service in dining has been slow“
“I wish there were more options for hot food at the snack bars. Simple items like hot dogs and pizza are never available. Grab and go Breakfast tacos would be a nice addition. There is no decent food option before 11am. Also, please improve the coffee! “
“We are only general users and my not reflect an informed opinion here. Seems to be improving somewhat“
“The club seems to be making efforts to improve the overall service and events. The staff generally are very accommodating and helpful“
“Items on the menu that allow fast service (ie: nachos, potato skins, hummus, pretzels, cheese sticks) some of these are but they don’t stay. Lunch/dinner can take up to 2 hours for 2 people even for just a burger- it needs to be faster and not take so long Ordering drinks at the table takes longer than it should Most times I will just get up from table and order drink directly at the bar. Hours of operations on the weekends needs to be adjusted. Last call for food/drinks at 8:30pm is early especially on a friday when those who work until 6. By the time you get to the club and your friends meet you you should have it open/available at least until 9pm. Also when there is an event at the club (tennis or pickleball) we like to be able to come to our bar and order some food. Sometimes these events last until 8:30pm We have to leave and go somewhere else to eat/drink
Overall the length it takes to get food and drinks needs to improve greatly and hours of operations needs adjusting especially for summer months“
“Biggest issue is food service. When you sit down, it can take over 10 minutes for someone to show up to take your drink order and then it takes 20 minutes to get your drink and food served. Unacceptable long wait times. Food quality and taste is average and prices too high. Must improve quality and service time“
Food and Beverage at Sweetwater
“Dining is a disaster! The following things happened over the last 2 months. People we were dining with ordered shrimp quesadillas. The kitchen put shrimp WITH the tails on in the quesadillas. You order straight off the menu no substitutions but when it comes out it is not as advertised on the menu. I have been served quesadillas with no guacamole, Buda Bowl missing ingredients, Other salads the lettuce was different from what was on the menu, The skirt steak is supposed to be 12 oz. I'm more than happy to send a picture of the 5 oz portion I was served. There was no opportunity to change my order if they are missing ingredients etc. If I were to send it back it would be another 20 minutes and everyone in my party would be finished with their meal. We eat lunch and dinner there all the time as it is a social time for us. Over the last year it isn't fun to meet up there any longer. I'm tired of being mad about the quality/quantity of the food, dirty glasses and utensils and service. My husband and I were up there Saturday 6/29. There were max 15 people there. We ordered the clam chowder. We waited 15-20 minutes before it came out. No spoons were provided. The waiter went in search of spoons. He finally found some, we took a bite of the chowder and it was ice cold. By the way we were informed by the chef the club no longer orders crackers. We sent the chowder back and waited for our fried shrimp. The menu states 12 fried or cajun grilled shrimp with a corn, bell pepper, celery relish and bang bang sauce. It all came out except the relish. We asked to talk to the chef. He came out with a blazing attitude. When we asked why the item was missing, he stated "it was not his menu". We explained if it is on the menu why isn't it on the plate. We also asked why the chowder was cold. He just rolled his eyes. He was so arrogant. We got up and left without eating the food. We went to Brandani's Hamburgers and had a wonderful cooked to order hot burger. In addition to those problems, we found Tyanna was giving herself an additional tip over what we documented on the receipt. I talked to the accounting department and the problem was verified and we were refunded. I encouraged our friends to look at their bills as we all had been together for dinner multiple times. I was very disappointed when I heard a week or so later from 2 other people that they had the same problem. They had to self report the issue. Why didn't the club notify everyone who had an additional tip added to their bill by Tyanna? Very disappointing! Many of the club staff know us and our friend group we have been so supportive of the club. Eating there 2-4 nights a week (until it became too bad), every week during COVID we ordered dinners to go. We had a wine locker for the last 2 years and would have renewed if we had been provided a wine list that had reasonable priced. I heard an alternate list was going to be distributed but it never came so we cancelled the locker. I'm very disappointed with how things are going to the point I am considering leaving the club“
“Having the men ’ s card room open on Tuesdays would be a nice improvement“
Food and Beverage at Sweetwater
“No answers because we very rarely eat/drink there“
“Miguel in the Card Room is the best person you have. He is attentive to customer needs strives to take care of the members. Can't say much for the rest of the wait staff since I rarely frequent 4400 because of poor service“
“Operation of the 4400 & dining room is sad, sad, sad Not saying anything you can't already know If this was a for profit restaurant, it would have been out of business long ago. Prior to COVID, this was a highly sought after/desirable place to eat. Friday dinners were exceptional. That was 4 years ago. The club has had more than enough time to GTSS. This from a member that averages eating here 2X per week.
Chef needs to go the way of Gary & Mario & bring in someone that knows how to run a restaurant. Sad how many members I talk to that come here only to play golf, tennis or work out and then leave, will not stay to eat I know many golfers that will have a beer(s) in the snack bar but will not come to the 4400 because of bad service. You have a gem & it's wasting away “
“The food prices are astronomically high. The beverage prices are fair. Even your staff who wait on us agree about the pricing. They have made comments that the pricing for the food is coming down but nothing has changed“
“Club needs to be open until 11 PM on Friday & Saturday. If you do this a core amount of members will use it. Service timing needs to improve - too long to get drinks and food“
“Service takes too long--always waiting more than anywhere else!!!“
“Service is still suboptimal. Slow when the place is empty That is training not staffing“
“The dining staff are great“
“There is not a better place in SWCC than the card room and no better server than Miguel“
Food and Beverage at Sweetwater
“Quality of food has improved dramatically, as well as the menu selections. The 4400 service is subpar. The system for ordering and managing the process is subpar“
“It takes way too long to get our food orders. Everyone knows this, so we only eat there if we have a lot of extra time. Food orders get lost or extremely delayed. You seem to have enough staff, so is it a systems issue? Do you need to add more staff so more people will dine there? If you fix the food delays, you will get a lot more business“
“Poor service. Food is inconsistent and over priced. Ridiculous that we can only have certain menu items at certain times. I have friends that quit the club because of this. Any other restaurant is more accommodating. I ordered the avocado toast the other day and they wouldn’t give me the hash browns because it was after 3:00 Still charged full price though”
“It takes way too long to have a full meal at the club. Wait staff takes 10 minutes to introduce themselves and take drink orders and that is on a Tuesday night when there are less than 10 parties in the entire restaurant. They do not even look at you when they pass by your table to see if you need anything. Wait staff needs better training on customer service. The quality of food does not justify the price tag“
“Need vegan/ vegetarian options on the menu. Prices are outrageous“
“My group has average membership over 15 years and nobody eats there anymore. Between the quality, the time it takes, and the price it’s better to go other places. I wish this were not the case. We have offered suggestions but not seen any implemented or discussed. It’s a very challenging demographic to cater to for sure. I’m happy to discuss what I’ve seen at other clubs I’ve been a member of“
“The pricing for food and beverage has gotten to a point that you are not competitive with surrounding restaurants this is especially true for lunch“
“More kids dining options please“
Food and Beverage at Sweetwater
“Chef choices and changes have been very disappointing. Communicatin between kitchen an what is available to the staff needs major improvement. Loss of key employees has been disappointing however very understanding change is difficult and with change twir is developmental growth opprtunities that we hope to see. Healthy choices would be welcome, low sodium soups etc… we have been members since the club was in the dirt and we want to support our club. Rules of how children should behave is limited and w find ourselves leaving when children are running through the bar area or sitting at the bar/tables. 4400 was originally adult only and we miss that opportunity.
Blessings, Dr. Liza Leal Foulds“
“First, the 4400 need to be open till 10:00 PM as we finish our tennis games at 9:00 PM and would like to go for a beer and a pizza at the club. Wait staff are not prompt. It seems they are not trained. Need to offer more vegie options. A simple pasta dish can go a long way. Need to lower pricing for hard liquor and may want to add better scotch selections“
“Getting a beer at 4400 is a 30 minute project and it will probably not be the right order if you do order food“
“Haven’t eaten there recently but there had been a shortage of staff making being served take too long“
“the mens card rood should rated very high. Service in the dining room is poor. You haven't had a good food and beverage in year. food prices overpriced and not reasonable”
“Prices are way too high“
“Service can use improvement. Too much turnover. Food is above average “
“The wait time for food at SWCC is completely UNACCEPTABLE! Waiting almost 1 hour 45 minutes from the time food was ordered until the order is delivered to the table is NEVER acceptable!”
“Serivice and food is terrible!!!“
Additional Comments & Concerns
“The Men’s Card Room has been taken away from the men. Full dues golf members left the Club and this was a main complaint. A new filtration system was offered to Gary Ray at no charge to the Club to continue smoking privileges but was turned down”
“Need to do a better job cleaning Mens Locker room. Just yesterday there was a light out in the shower and mold on ceiling. Also when towels are worn they need to get rid of them. Often times I reach for a towel and it has a hole or a tear in it”
“Dues increases the past two years have been excessive. Two years ago, our dues increased 40%+. Last year, our dues increased 30%+ and there were no added benefits to justify the dues increases. Tennis at SWCC has been neglected far too long. After last year's dues increase, we were going to cancel our membership but decided to wait to see what the new owners would do for tennis members. Also, when Gary was the GM, I sent emails to him inquring about the reason for such exorbitant dues increases but did not receive a reply from him either time. Nice guy but not responsive at all. The new GM needs to do much better”
“Used to be a great place to mingle meet people, enjoy meals, great functions. People don’t know people and not a fun place to be”
“As I spend about half the year out of the country, I would really appreciate some membership category to cater for this. Right now, Sweetwater effectively costs me double and that is very expensive”
“Hard to make tee times”
“We look forward to the completion of upcoming enhancement projects, particularly the upstairs card room ”
“Many of the extra golf events are too expensive“
Additional Comments & Concerns
“SWCC has more amenities and potential than most clubs in the area but has slowly gone down hill, by losing the great staff and employees from the past. I am embarrassed to bring any friends to the dining room, because the service is so poor, and the menu is so limited”
“While service has improved somewhat in the last 6 months it is still often poor. We spend a lot of money to be a member of this club and we expect to be treated like a member. Too often we are treated as if we are a nuisance to the staff. Combine that with the issues I mentioned regarding golf and FB and it is a less than desireable experience and an embarrassment to bring or refer non-members.
Finally, dues for a senior golf membership have increased more than 35% in the last 2 years with no corresponding inmprovement in the quality of the experience. Also, we are charged fees that I have no idea what they are for. "Administrative Fee" $10 and "Monthly Service Fee" $20"
“I have been a Senior Golf member for over15 years and now at 93+ I and my wife are Social Members. We did not move out from Sugar Land because of SWCC. We love the Club, but it has been gradually going down. However, the recent change in ownership looks promising and encouraging. We need to further improve the decorum and ambiance. It is a great facility, and members would love to come to eat rather than at restaurants PROVIDED the Club had a good menu with variety and appropriate prices”
“Please purchase some new basketballs. The existing basketballs are in a decrepit state and an embarrassment for any country club. Also consider staying open till 10 PM on weekdays. Thanks”
“Many of the extra golf events are too expensive“
“It is a country club, but no one to pick bags at bag drop. I have referred three full time members but no referral incentive was treceived”
“Your prices have become borderline too high for new members to join”
Additional Comments & Concerns
“i am loyal to the club and will see through this transition time. I remember how it used to be when I joined, so i know what Sweetwater can be. I hope a new general manager will infuse new energy and vision”
“The gas smell on some days is extremely overwhelming almost nauseating I have emailed & mentioned this numerous times but it seems to be something that can’t be fixed just like the sewer smell that comes & goes. I still don’t feel comfortable trying to play MJ in the mens card room I would like to see where this is open for everyone & let it be known?“
“Overall I am very happy to be a member of SWCC. The tennis is great. I would love to see improvements in the dining area. More efficient service, lower cost, I'm looking forward to seeing the new menu “
“Please visit the Houston racquet club and sugar creek country club. They have a huge emphasis on creating spaces where adults can gather, eat, and drink in eyeshot of spaces their children can play. This has been highly successful in increasing young members that spend money on bar and dining“
“My comments regarding the general manager relate to the prior GM“
“I am leaving the club end of day July 15th because my cost to play golf runs over $200 per round. That’s not your fault but as a super senior I can only play once per week and occasionally twice so I’m not best suited anymore to be a country club member. My wife and I used to play several times a week and we were getting our money ’ s worth. I asked for some cost relief for guys like me who can play occasionally but nothing was available. You should seriously think about adding a super seniors rate at a flat $40 per round including a cart and you would retain more members. But obviously you are looking for the young and rich families to maintain your membership quotas. I completely understand and we have always been treated well at Sweetwater“
“Needs direction and better management. Rick and Fara in the Restaurant, Ralph the starter who are what keeps us coming back”
Additional Comments & Concerns
“The clubhouse renovation needs to be completed. What was done looks great, but the rest looks very dated Also the outside patio is wasted space, could do so much more with it. I think if you would extend a covered patio off the men ’ s locker room bar area that could serve a few purposes. Provide a phenomenal view and watching area and also cover some of the.lower patio area so more people would go outside. Also more TVs in 4400, especially with football season almost here. Also I o a couple client events per year at the club and since you ’ ve added a room fee I have looked at other options, prices are double what tey were a few years ago for 50-100 person events. If you are looking for a model club, I was a member at flying horse in CO Springs before here. Incredible facilities….take a look“
“The waitstaff seems to change over faster than they can adequately train them. Maybe spend a few Mondays, while the club is closed up to speed”
“Ryan has done an excellent job as interim GM. Gary was unreceptive and didn't seem to care about the members so was good he retired. Club has gone up since that change. We used to eat at the club all the time though rarely do anymore. Price has gone up significantly though the value and the food have not gone up. Lacking in that part. Bar and wait staff are night and day difference than 6 months ago so that has helped. Kitchen seems still understaffed or slow. I joined during Covid and the club felt like a family. A lot of that was lost over the past two years though getting better. Golf course could be in better shape. No ball washers or trash cans on course makes it get cluttered. Pace of play can be slow. Bunkers are in bad shape and most don't rake them. Overall, we love Sweetwater just looking for some improvements”
“Stairs to athletic facility awful. Difficult to get to workout facility. Need decent handrails”
“Actually I am a Maybe for referring someone for Social Membership but the survey would not allow me to change the response “
