With large elevation drops on most of the longer holes, driver is not a must use off every tee. A 3 wood was sufficient for every hole. On the back nine, two short par 5’s on the homestretch insure a dramatic finish to the round. The par 4’s on the back supply a mix of easy holes and some that require both a great tee shot and an accurate second shot.

Ultimately, Black Jack’s Crossing is fairly navigable for that style of course. The fairways, even the narrow, are ample and the greens, while undulating aren’t vindictive in their punishment. Black Jack, however, is far from “easy.” Hit good shots, though, and you’ll have a chance to shoot a great score.

Mi autóval mentünk a feleségemmel, s sokszor 100 kilométeren át nem láttunk másik kocsit a texasi sivatagban. Viszont találkoztunk több határőrrel, volt olyan állomás, ahol még az útleveleinket is ellenőrizték. Ennek az a magyarázata, hogy sok mexikói migráns próbál átjutni a Rio Grande határfolyón, illetve a hegyeken, s a belső ellenőrzés arra irányul, hogy őket elkapják.

A Big Bend Marathon település irányából, vagy Terlingua felől közelíthető meg. Mi Terlingua mellett a Lajitas Golf Resortban szálltunk meg, s itt vett fel minket a túravezetőnk, Adam, aki a Lucky Sun túracég és jeep kölcsönző tulajdonosa. Régi bányák maradványain kívül sok látnivaló nincs a szellemvárosban, így tovább is álltunk hamarosan, s bevetettük magunkat a nemzeti parkba. Több órán át kanyarogtunk a jól kiépített utakon, fotóztuk a hatalmas, drámai méretű hegyeket és kanyonokat,

Fortunately, the storm passed in the morning, but there were such floods in the Big Bend National Park in the Santa Elena Canyon that Adam couldn't even show it to us, which was sad, because it is the biggest attraction of the park. The Rio Grande flooded and made the roads impassable, and they were closed immediately. The first stop of our tour was the ghost town of Terlingua, where we stopped for a bit before driving into the park. This settlement is not officially registered, but it is famous. It's on every map. Apart from the remains of old mines, there is not much to see in the ghost town, so we soon stopped and ventured into the national park. Reggel 8.30 órától este 6 óráig tartott a túránk, s bizony elfáradtunk. Jólesett a resortban a vacsora, a rántott fürj előételként és a helyi sláger, a chili főételként.

Útravalóként Adam adott néhány jó tanácsot, mielőtt elbúcsúztunk egymástól.
