t the beginning of April, Morrisons introduced their first A ever Customer & Community Moment. A campaign full of activities to help make a difference for the customers and communities they serve. Elliot Anderson, the Community Champion at Shefford Morrisons, has been working together with our local schools, community groups and care homes all in the name of “Making Good Things Happen”. The campaign started by implementing “Seeds of Hope” where Morrisons gave away 2.5 million packets of sunflower seeds to customers in store and community groups, with the idea to help “plant hope for a brighter future”. Locally, 8 schools, 4 community groups and 2 care homes received over 250 packets of seeds - that’s 2,500 sunflowers ready to bloom this summer! Shefford Morrisons also took the time to celebrate a “Little Sunshine” - a young person locally who has played a part in supporting the community through the pandemic. With a lovely nomination from her Mum, Vikki, 8-year-old Abigail received a hamper of goodies. What started off as a lesson in handling money, turned into Abigail kick starting a donation based glass recycling scheme in her neighbourhood which managed to raise over £150 for Magpas Air Ambulance. Not only that, but Abigail and her Mum have been out frequently litter picking around our roads and parks no matter the weather! Incredible work! Morrisons then introduced “Messages of Hope” which have been circulating around town through the form of postcards! Elliot managed to distribute 1000 postcards to customers and local school children, which were coloured in and sent out to families affected by lockdown or have been sent out to Oak Manor and New Meppershall care home to help tackle social isolation. With a plan to help support children’s literacy, Morrisons have started their very own “Little Little Library”. It works by having customers donate their unused children’s books, which will then be passed on to Shefford Lower and Robert Bloomfield Academy, who will distribute them to families in need. They can then decide to keep the book or create a sustainable book cycle by bringing it back into Shefford Morrisons and swapping it with another! Morrisons have also printed their own children’s story “Cedric the Seed” by Danielle Corrigan. Inspired by the pandemic, it’s a story of hope for a brighter future. Through Elliot’s local connections, 100 copies of the book will be donated to schools and food banks as well as being donated to our local Central Beds library!
