Editor’s Letter Dear Family & Friends of Doral, I hope you are having a warm summer with joyful and relaxing moments in our city of Doral during the month of July. Optimistically you will receive enough Vitamin D from this Florida sun to get you through the rest of the summer and ready to return energized to the school year.

We are delighted to have Giselle Schreiner on our cover this month, better known on social media as “La Vida Organica”, meaning “Organic Life”. Giselle has not only inspired me towards a healthy lifestyle, but continues to motivate and influence more than 100,000 people daily with tips on how to start, obtain and maintain an organic and natural life! Home is where the heart is, but the heart of every home is the kitchen. Designing an innovative and functional kitchen has become essential in today’s society. Interior design is all about experiencing the space; it’s about understanding the functionality of each space and how you can make it beautiful while keeping it efficient. Families each day gather around their kitchen to cook, eat, and have their mealtime discussions. The kitchen and its surroundings have come to symbolize much more than just there mere function. As a result, interior designers today focus much of their attention on the kitchen.

nowing that the kitchen space will serve various functions, designers express their intentions by playing with different materials of cabinets, countertops, and additional accessories.

Kitchens cabinets can be made up of lacquer, wood veneer, laminate, or melamine. Lacquer is a very versatile liquid that allows you to paint wooden cabinets to any color or finish such as, high gloss, satin, or matte. Wood veneers, which are real wood laminates, give the kitchen an elegant and natural look.

Given its lower price range, laminated kitchen cabinets have risen in popularity. Laminates contain thin sheets of material that are used to cover up the MDF, allowing the maker to change the appearance of the material.

The most economical material for kitchen cabinets is melamine, which is made up of a thermosetting plastic material. However, melamine is not highly recommended due to its low quality and short durability.

While the cabinets set the tone, the countertops give life to the kitchen. Natural

stones - products that have been excavated from the earth, have been used for many years as building materials and decorative features. Granite, marble, and other natural stones are beautiful, but are also of high maintenance. As an alternative, quartz countertops provide a non-porous surface that is highly resistant to staining caused by coffee, wine, lemon juice, olive oil, vinegar, makeup and many other everyday products.

In addition, quartz is offered in a wide-variety of designs and is sold by many different firms, such as Silestone, Caesarstone, Cambria, Pompeii, and many more.

The great designer Iris Apfel once said, “put your money into accessories, you could create a million different looks.” Accessories can make any kitchen look more interesting that it actually is and can make it look even more functional because of the way these accessories are designed and the purpose it has. Here are some of the best accessories that a kitchen can have; lemans corner systems, which are designed for blind corner cabinets, a roll out waste basket, a pull out spice rack, and a tandem depot accessory for tall cabinets. To even make it more interesting, the accessories come in any finish, such as, stainless steel, chrome, brushed, satin, bronze, and more. Furthermore, LED lighting strips can be another functional accessory that can be added to your kitchen either underneath the wall cabinets or around the toe kick of the base cabinets.

eat belts, harness system, infantonly, convertible, rear-facing, forward-facing, booster seat. The world of car seats for children may seem overwhelming for parents when there are so many makes, models and options available.

Ultimately, the type of car seat your child needs will be determined by several factors, including your child’s age, size and type of vehicle you drive. Here is a quick overview about car seat safety for children of all ages.

You must have a car seat to take your infant home from the hospital. It is never safe to hold your baby on your lap while driving or not strap the baby in a car seat, even for short distances. According to The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), infants need to ride in rear-facing car seats until they are two years old or have reached the maximum weight and height limits recommended by the manufacturer. Recent studies show that a child under two years old is 75 percent less likely to die or incur a serious injury when in a rear-facing seat because a child’s neck is

usually not strong enough to support the head in the event of a crash at this age.

A properly installed car seat should be snug and not move more than one inch forward or sideways. Follow manufacturer’s instructions to make sure the seat is positioned at the proper angle so your baby’s head does not tilt forward.

Toddlers and preschoolers should ride in a forward-facing car seat for as long as possible. They should only switch to a booster seat that relies on the car’s adult seatbelts when they exceed the height and weight limit for their car seat. For convertible seats that have been turned from rear-facing to forward-facing, shoulder straps for the harness should be moved to the slots that are at or below your child’s shoulders. Ensure that the seat belt runs through the forwardfacing belt path. For vehicles with built-in seats, read the owner’s manual about how to use these seats because weight and height limits vary.

School-aged children can ride with a booster seat after they have outgrown their forward-facing car seats. Booster seats help raise the child up so the lap belt lies low and snug across the child’s upper thighs and the shoulder belt crosses the middle of the child’s chest and shoulder.

Booster seats are generally for children up to about 80 pounds and should not be used with only a lap belt. High-back boosters are recommended for vehicles that do not have head rests or have low seat backs. Children stay in booster seats until they reach 4’ 9” (generally between eight and 12 years old) and adult seat belts fit correctly.

If you borrow a car seat, or buy a used one, make sure it does not have any visible cracks, has not been recalled, is not more than six years old, has not been in a moderate or severe accident, and has the instruction manual, manufacture date and model number.

¿QUÉ TE MOTIVA? 7 pasos para motivarte, transformarte y lograr lo que quieres Cuando pensamos en motivación, debemos tener en cuenta que la palabra se compone de dos conceptos: encontrar motivos para tomar acción, este es el verdadero significado de la motivación.

E

xisten dos tipos de motivación para lograr cualquier meta que nos tracemos: la interna y la instrumental.

La interna tiene que ver con la satisfacción personal, lo hago por que me permite sentirme bien como persona, sin necesidad de que nadie más se entere.

La instrumental tiene que ver con todo aquello que hago para lograr un titulo, fama, reconocimiento y retribución económica, entre otros.

Sin importar cual de los dos tipos de motivación queremos poner en práctica, es necesario llegar al nivel siguiente, el de la transformación. Para transformar cualquier

área de nuestra vida, necesitamos tener los motivos correctos que nos permitan tomar acción y modificar la forma en que pensamos, si ésta nos aleja de lo que queremos.

4. Pasa a la acción modificando las creencias que te alejan de lo que quieres lograr, el conocimiento aplicado da poder.

Ilustro a continuación los 7 pasos que te ayudarán a encontrar motivos para la acción y así lograr la transformación deseada:

5. Relaciónate con las personas correctas que te ayudarán a alcanzar lo que quieres, preferiblemente personas que ya hayan alcanzado lo que tú quieres lograr.

1. Identifica y escribe lo que quieres lograr: permite tener claridad y enfoque de las acciones que emprendes.

6. Lee cada día tus metas en la mañana y en la noche, tenerlas presente te ayuda a buscar su realización.

2. Encuentra una razón lo suficientemente poderosa que permita levantarte todos los días en busca de la obtención de tu meta, ten en cuenta la frase que dice: “si mi porqué es lo suficientemente poderoso, el cómo se vuelve irrelevante”

7. Cada vez que te digan que no puedes o que tú pienses que no puedes, utilízalo como motivación para seguir adelante Es imposible lograr resultados diferentes teniendo los mismos pensamientos y haciendo lo mismo día a día. Te invito a incorporar los 7 pasos anteriores para lograr lo que quieres. Estoy seguro que lo harás realidad.

3. Identifica qué creencias o pensamientos necesitas modificar para alcanzar lo que quieres: te permite darte cuenta si éstas te ayudan o no a lograr la meta trazada.

Ejemplo: si tu propósito es perder peso y tu creencia con relación a las personas delgadas es que todo el que es delgado está enfermo, esto no te ayudará a lograr tu meta ya que tu modelo mental te dice que alguien delgado es sinónimo a estar enfermo.

Historias DE UN VECINO desde el lente de Donaldo Barros

ste mes conocimos a un gran fotógrafo que estuvo de visita en Doral, muchos lo conocen en Instagram como @donaldobarros.

Su fotografía es reconocida por expresar gran emoción, revelando culturas, experiencias e historias desconocidas, logrando transmitir a través del lente las historias de un vecino.

No dudamos en contactarlo para escuchar todo sobre Historias de Un Vecino y como empezó su jornada en Instagram. ¿Cómo empezaste en el mundo de la fotografía?

Entré sin darme cuenta. Siempre me ha gustado tomar fotos. Un día, un gran amigo y fotógrafo (Ernesgo Borges), me aconsejó que le pusiera más enfoque a mis intenciones. Compré equipos nuevos y me puse a tirar fotos e identificar mis verdaderos gustos. Todo ha sido simple pero de mucho esfuerzo. ¿Cuál ha sido tu mayor inspiración?

Hacer lo que me gusta.

Explícanos una típica trayectoria. ¿Como es un día de fotos normal?

Es sencillo. Agarro mi bolso y salgo a detallar.

Lo que me atrapa, lo capturo. Siempre trato de estar preparado para el momento. Hay mucho instinto. ¿Cómo encuentras tus portarretratos?

Con simpleza y humildad. Cuando tienes buenas intenciones, creo que la gente lo siente. Al final es una conversación común. ¿Qué es lo que te llama la atención para decidir que ese es el vecino?

Eso es inexplicable; es una sensación; un ‘feeling’. ¿Qué te llevó a crear las historias de un vecino?

Ayudar a que la gente deje de subestimar a los demás; comunicar que todos tenemos algo que decir; que contar; una historia. ¿Cómo describes tu estilo de fotos?

Simple y dedicado; eso creo. ¿Hasta ahora cuál ha sido tu parada favorita? ¿Cliché?, todas tienen algo especial, pero Caracas es mi casa, y ya por ahí tiene un espacio especial.

¿Cuál es tu percepción del mundo?

Que está loco. Muchas masas egoístas.

Hay que practicar más la humildad; ser más sencillos. Trabajar en vez de esperar que otros trabajen. ¿Cómo sientes que tu vida ha cambiado o que has aprendido de tu travesía?

Uno cambia constantemente, viajes o no.

Siempre que estés abierto a aprender, aprenderás. ¿Cuáles son tus planes a futuro? Cómo incorporarías la fotografía a tu futuro?

Mi plan es no tener un plan. Hacer lo que me gusta siempre consciente de mi contexto.

Hay veces que uno no puede hacer lo que quiere, y eso es normal porque no estamos solos en el mundo, pero mientras sea fiel a mi sentido de responsabilidad, todo bien. Y la fotografía siempre a mi lado; siempre. ¿Cómo te gustaría ver el mundo?

Coherente. ¿Qué es lo que no te gusta ver en todos estos países?

Egoísmo. No necesariamente en los países; en las personas que lo practican.

Donaldo Barros ¿Qué ves en común?

Las ganas de mejorar, ahora, ¿qué tanto hacen para lograrlo? ¿Qué aprendes de estas experiencias?

Crecer y comunicarlas. ¿Si pudieras cambiar algo que cambiarías?

El constante saboteo a las ideas, el instinto, y la creatividad. Tenemos que simplificarnos. ¿Qué personaje reconocido internacional te gustaría capturar y porque?

Suena loco, pero no siento que alguien sea especial porque el mundo te lo diga. Todos tenemos algo especial. Vamos a ver con quién me consigo desde hoy hasta siempre.

Amo las mascarillas de arcilla, mi preferida ahorita es de la marca Aesop “chamomile concentrate anti-blemish.” Y en mi caso, aunque me encanta el queso debo comerlo esporádicamente por cuestiones de acné.

¿Comes siempre orgánico y saludable?

Puedo decir que el 80% de mis comidas son orgánicas y saludables pero también me gusta comer en restaurantes y disfrutar diferentes sabores. Hay momentos que no puedo controlar en la calle si algo es orgánico o no y no voy a ganar nada con estresarme o pasar hambre. Lo que si puedo controlar es la calidad de comida que tengo en mi casa.

¿Que le recomendarías a alguien que quiere comenzar a comer orgánico?

SCHREINER ¿Cuéntanos un poquito sobre tu niñez, donde creciste?

Nací en Miami pero crecí en Maracaibo Venezuela donde viví la mayor parte de mi vida. Tengo recuerdos muy bonitos de esas épocas… cuando me gradué de bachiller, decidí estudiar la universidad en USA y me mude con mi mama y hermanas.

¿Cómo empezó la Vida Orgánica?

En mis búsqueda de trabajo y la confusión con lo que quería hacer con mi vida, opte por regresar a un trabajo viejo donde hacia mercadeo internacional. Mi sorpresa fue cuando volví, habían contratado a una Chef de Alimentos Vivos y teníamos la opción de entrar a un programa saludable para la semana. Incluía todo crudo vegano, jugos, ensaladas, postres, etc… Comencé a sentirme tan bien y aprender de la importancia de comer orgánico, que empecé a tomarle fotos a mis comidas y recomendando lo que estaba aprendiendo. Tuvo buena recepción y creció muy rápido entonces sentí la necesidad de estudiar mas para escribir y hacer recomendaciones de salud.

¿Tu super food favorito del momento?

No se si es porque estoy embarazada pero estoy adicta a el superfood “açai” mi cuerpo me pide muchísimos antioxidantes y hacer un smoothie con polvo de Açai o un Açai bowl con frutas encima es mi inyección de antioxidantes.

¿Cual es tu rutina de belleza?

Bebo mucho agua, creo que esta es una de las cosas mas importantes en el área de la belleza. Si me aburro del sabor del agua, le coloco un poquito de jugo de limón, rodajas de naranja o pepino o ramitas de romero. Uso productos orgánicos que no sean agresivos para la piel. El primer paso es entrar a mi web lavidaorganic.com y leer todo sobre lo orgánico y las etiquetas importantes que debe ver en el súper mercado. El segundo paso seria hacer una lista de las cosas que come todos los días, por ejemplo: pan, mantequilla, pollo, lechuga, tomate, zanahoria, manzana, fresas. Comenzar por comprar alimentos que consumes todos los días es la bienvenida a este estilo de vida.

¿Como describirías tu vida antes de La Vida Orgánica?

No sabia nada de la diferencia entre un alimento orgánico o transgénico. Comía Fast Food de vez en cuando… me comía mis emociones. Prácticamente en una noche me podía comer 2 cajas de galletas y lo que pasa con estos alimentos muy procesados y azucarados es que comienzan a alterar tu cerebro. Cuando cambie mi alimentación comencé a ser mas feliz y poco a poco aprendí a valorarme, es como si la comida limpia mantuviera tu cerebro limpio. Esta experiencia la cuento en mi ebook de jugos verdes.

Tu polvo LVO ha tenido tanto éxito que hasta lo exportas a otros países. Como descubriste el polvito mágico y en que consiste?

Hace un par de anos atrás mi estomago comenzó a inflamarse y yo no entendía porque. Mi principal Coaching es sobre digestión entonces en mi mundo o mejor dicho cuerpo no podía pasar. Tuve que volver a leerme todas mis notas en los libros de mi certificación de un curso naturista que hice.

Encontré los síntomas de parásitos y sabia que eso era lo que me estaba pasando.

Experimente probando Tierra de Diatomeas Grado Alimenticio y a los 3 días me sentí bien (había expulsado parásitos de mi intestino) de ahí nació #polvodetoxlvo y todo el mundo habla maravillas. Me encanta saber que algo natural esta curando a muchas personas con problemas digestivos.

Siempre ser honesta y nunca hablar globalmente. Porque el alimento para uno puede ser veneno para otro. No creo en dietas especificas, solo creo en que algún tipo de alimentación es bueno para esa persona.

En vez de decir no uses este producto o alimento, me gusta mas compartir recetas, hábitos saludables o ingredientes que uno debe evadir.

Como te sientes con tu embarazo?

Que has aprendido hasta los momentos de esta experiencia y nueva etapa de vida? Me siento muy feliz! Aunque los primeros meses fueron muy difíciles. Este embarazo fue súper planeado. Mi esposo y yo decidimos que en nuestra luna de miel íbamos a comenzar a intentar y en el primer intento paso, estoy muy agradecida. Mi primer trimestre fue síntomas de nauseas, dormir todo el tiempo, fatiga, falta de ánimos y hasta llegue a sentirme triste. Eso me hacia sentir muy culpable porque dentro de mi esta un bebe, un milagrito….pero todo estos síntomas fueron el cambio hormonal y finalmente ya en el segundo trimestre me siento mejor.

Do you always healthy and organic?

Tell us a bit about your childhood.

Where did you grow up?

I was born in Miami but grew up in Maracaibo, Venezuela. I have very fond memories of those times. When I finished high school, I decided to go to college in the United States and I moved here with my mom and sisters.

How did La Vida Orgánica get started?

While looking for a job and in the confusion of what I wanted to do with my life, I decided to go back to an old job where I did international marketing. I was pleasantly surprised when I found that they had hired a chef specializing in live foodstuffs. We had the option of participating in a weekly program of healthy food. Everything was raw, vegan.

Juices, salads, desserts, etc. I started feeling so well and learning the importance of eating organic, that I started taking pictures of my meals and sharing what I was learning. It was well received and growth was very quick. At this point I felt the need to study more to be able to give healthy tips.

Which is your favorite superfood at this moment?

It could be because I am pregnant, but I am hooked on the superfood “Acai”. My body demands a lot of antioxidants and fixing an Acai smoothie or a fruit and Acai bowl is my shot of antioxidants.

What is your beauty routine?

I drink a lot of water. I believe that this is one of the most important elements of any beauty routine. If I get bored with the flavor of water, I add a bit of lemon juice, orange or cucumber slices or a twig of rosemary. I use organic

I can say that about 80% of my meals are organic and healthy. But I enjoy eating in restaurants and enjoying different flavors.

When I am out, I cannot always control if everything is organic.

What would you suggest to someone who wants to start eating organic?

The first step would be to visit my website lavidaorganic.com and learn everything about what is organic and the importance of reading food labels at the grocery store. The second step would be to make a list of what they eat every day. For example, bread, butter, chicken, lettuce, tomato, carrots, apples, strawberries.

When you become aware of what you buy you start feeling well.

How was your life before “La Vida Orgánica”?

I did not know the difference between food that was organic or transgenic. Once in a while I ate fast food, I ate my emotions. Some nights I could finish two boxes of cookies and what happens when you consume highly processed food with lots of sugar, it starts to have an effect on your brain. When my eating habits changed, I felt happier and my selfesteem grew. I tell all about this experience in my ebook on green juices.

Your LVO powder has been so successful that you are even exporting it to other countries. How did you discover this magic powder and how does it work?

A few years ago I experienced bloating and I could not explain it. My main coaching focuses on digestion and I went over all the notes I had on this subject. I found information on symptoms caused by parasites and that is what was happening to me. I tried Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth and three days later I felt fine (I had expelled the parasite s from my intestines). That was the birth of #polvodetoxlvo that everybody loves.

What is your greatest responsibility towards your followers?

Being honest and never generalizing.

Because what works for someone may be poison for someone else. I like to share recipes, healthy habits or ingredients that must be avoided.

How do you feel now that you are pregnant? What have you learned so far?

I feel very happy! But the first months were very difficult. My husband and I had decided that we were going to start trying during our honeymoon. It happened right away and for that I am very grateful. During my first trimester I suffered from nausea, I slept the day away, I was tired, listless, and I even started feeling sad. That made me feel guilty, because there is a baby growing inside of me, a miracle.

But all these symptoms were just hormonal changes. Finally, in the second trimester I feel much better.

VEGETALES

Asados

Para 4 personas Ingredientes 2 Pimentones asados en conserva o pimientos morrones 1 Berenjena pequeña cortada en rodajas delgadas 20 Espárragos 50 gr. Pecorino o parmesano entero 110 gr. de Rugula fresca

Vinagreta 4 cdas. Aceite de oliva 2 cdas. de Vinagre balsámico El jugo de medio limón Sal al gusto Pimienta negra recién molida

Preparación de Vinagreta

Preparación 1. Asar en la plancha muy caliente o sartén las rodajas de berenjena previamente sazonadas con sal y pimienta.

2. De la parte baja fibrosa del tallo de los espárragos, retirar 2 cm., saltear en la plancha o grill. Sazonar con sal y pimienta negra recién molida. Reservar.

3. Cortar laminas delgadas del queso pecorino o parmesano. Reservar.

4. Al momento de servir, mezclar todos los ingredientes con la vinagreta excepto el queso.

5. Servir en cada plato la ensalada y decorar con las laminas de queso Pecorino o parmesano.

PGA Tour moves Tournament from Trump Doral to Mexico City The longtime PGA Tour event at Miami’s Trump Doral resort is leaving South Florida and heading to Mexico City in 2017.

The PGA Tour announced that the new event will be known as the WGC-Mexico Championship. It will be held March 2-5 next year, with a venue in mind but not yet announced. The Tour has a seven-year agreement through 2023 with Group Salinas, a collection of companies based in Mexico City primarily involved in retail, television and telecommunications, to sponsor the event. Trump Doral had been the site of PGA Tour event since 1962. Trump, the Republican presidential candidate who has numerous golf course interests, has pumped millions of dollars into a resort refurbishment since taking over Doral in 2012.

Adam Scott won the WGC-Cadillac Championship in March at Doral, where the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Billy Casper, Lee Trevino, Raymond Floyd, Greg Norman, Ernie Els, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson all have won.

New Miami-Dade Animal Services Pet Adoption and Protection Center opens in Doral Miami-Dade Animal Services’ Pet Adoption and Protection Center has set the new standard for animal rescue and care by focusing on providing a comfortable, relaxed environment for homeless pets and enhancing the customer experience.

The new Pet Adoption and Protection center is a significant accomplishment for our pet loving community and will help Animal Services continue to save lives. The facility was build to help ensure every pet gets adopted, offer more lowcost spay/neuter services and enrich life -saving programs.

Completion of this new Pet Adoption and Protection Center is an important achievement in our continued efforts to increase spay/neuter services since it increases surgical capacity by more than 50 percent. The entire facility is climate controlled to adjust for the animals’ needs in the South Florida climate, making it the largest air-conditioned animal shelter in the country. The air-conditioning system is designed to control cross contamination of disease, facilitating six air changes per hour in the canine/feline adoption suites facilitates ventilation of fresh outside air, mitigating odors and reducing the spread of disease. They created an environment that is inviting to families, where they can come find their “furever friend” as well as a place of protection for our furry residents.
