Queridos familiares y amigos del Doral,

Dear family and friends of Doral, Although it gives me a bit of nostalgia that 2016 is over so fast, I cannot hide my excitement for the upcoming promising year that is upon us.

I thank God for all the experiences and blessings that I received this year; it was definitely a year for learning, for which I am very grateful.

I hope that for you it has been special too. What a better inspiration than our cover girl this month - Ingrid Macher, the creator of Adelgaza 20. A woman that after losing everything, she felt the need to change her whole lifestyle and having faith in God to get up again, as she tells us she had to live situations in life that were directing her to failure.

Today she has become one of the most recognized Hispanic women in the United States. I hope this interview will inspire you to believe in your inner potential and be a great inspiration for your lives.

We know that eyebrows are the frame for our faces and eyebrow design is trending, as we often see on celebrities and everywhere on social media. Thankfully, in our city we have Lovely Eyebrows Spa a renowned spa that has pioneered procedures such as micropigmentation of eyebrows, lips and eyelash extensions. Their talent and professionalism has led them to open two more spas and soon will be opening others throughout South Florida. Aunque me da un poco de nostalgia que el 2016 se haya acabado tan rápido, no puedo evitar sentir tanta emoción por el año prometedor que se aproxima. Primero que nada agradezco a Dios por todas las experiencias y la bendiciones que me regalo este año, definitivamente fue un año de aprendizaje, por lo cual estoy muy agradecida. Espero que para ustedes haya sido especial también. Este mes tenemos a Ingrid Macher como protagonista en Live Doral Magazine, la creadora de Adelgaza 20. Una mujer que al perderlo todo, sintió la necesidad de cambiar todo su estilo de vida y teniendo fe en Dios lo logra, ella nos comenta “tuve que vivir situaciones en la vida que me apuntaban al fracaso”. Convirtiéndose hoy día en una de las mas reconocidas influyentes hispana en Estados Unidos. Espero que esta entrevista logre inspirarlos para que crean en su potencial interno y sea de gran bendición en sus vidas.

Their view is that most Miamians agree that there is a significant level of misrepresentation of the city, and they use their platform with thousands of followers to highlight different cultural hotspots whether food, music, art or the outdoors. How often do they two scope out new locales of Miami’s finest?

“Every day,” says Klumpp. And that includes some of Miami’s most rapidly growing areas, including Doral.

f you’re a Miami native, the words South and Beach are nothing new when strung together. We’re all familiar with the look of pure awe and excitement when telling out-of-towners that we hail from Miami. But, what most people do not comprehend is that we don’t all live five minutes from the beach and we don’t hit the club every night. If you’re a native you know, there’s so much more to this city, and a few fellow Miamians are looking to rebrand the 305 by celebrating the old, the great and the new that drives the city forward.

Beyond South Beach is more than you’re the new must-follow Instagram--its creators are Miami’s new unofficial ambassadors sharing everything local.

Phillip and Alexandra Klumpp, the sibling duo behind Beyond South Beach, saw a void in the multicolored landscape when traveling abroad in Germany. “It seemed that everyone only saw Miami for the craziness of South Beach, and didn’t understand the rich and

It’s hard to believe that what was once simply an extension of the everglades 50 years ago has taken hold as a vibrant city that draws new residents each year. Even the new Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School is adding learn into the picture, giving local parents schooling for their children just around the corner. Residents have taken notice, and so has Beyond South Beach. “I think Doral has changed tremendously. So much of the new development has brought a whole new life to the area, and it’s very reflective of what’s happening in Miami,” says Klumpp. “We’re growing, and Doral epitomizes our growth as a city and community.”

Many of the most notable new developments in the area sit within the core that Downtown Doral has carefully crafted.

The development drew in a slew of new dining and retail, which has mixed to build an energetic downtown area. Most recently, Pisco y Nazca, Bulla, Dragonfly, Stellino’s moved in, and are just a sampling of the bites

gracing the Downtown Doral storefronts. Its neighboring development is CityPlace Doral, with expansive retail and dining, office space and apartment units.

You may have seen Beyond South Beach snapping shots at a few local spots like the Downtown Doral Park, Las Mercedes Restaurant and more, bringing in hundreds of likes to its Instagram handle. Whether you’re a true social media maven or not, it’s hard to deny the power of these platforms to share the new and the unknown.

“It’s actually surprising because we didn’t think it would turn out to be so well received by the community. We are starting to stretch beyond just Instagram and exist in the hearts of these people,” Klumpp shared.

“What keeps our progress strong is the overwhelming support we receive from locals telling us that they love what we’re doing and how it’s important for outsiders.”

hese days it’s easy to change the style or color of your hair, the color of your finger or toenails and even your eye color.

Es una fecha especial, un momento para compartir en familia, para orar y pedir pero también para dar gracias. Es una festividad que está asociada a las tradiciones: la cena típica de nuestros países de origen, armar el pesebre, el arbolito, patinar sobre hielo, hacer muñecos de nieve, cantar villancicos y aguinaldos, ir a misas y entregar regalos y tarjetas a quienes apreciamos. Es una fecha que nos recuerda el nacimiento de Jesús.

Durante esta festividad le damos gracias a Dios por todas las bendiciones que hemos recibido y celebramos la llegada del niño Dios.

Es una época de conciliación, donde reina la paz, la alegría y la tolerancia. Es momento para reflexionar y estar en unión familiar. La temporada navideña ya llegó a Doral y con ella las luces de colores, el arbolito de Navidad, las actividades especiales y, por supuesto, no puede faltar Santa Claus. Como todos los años, la ciudad le trae a sus residentes y visitantes distintos eventos para compartir en familia y con sus seres queridos momentos agradables y del disfrute de todos donde habrá hasta 80 toneladas de nieve.

Un cuento de Navidad Hace mucho tiempo, en un lugar lejano, un viajero llegó a una tierra que no conocía. De inmediato le llamó la atención la hermosura del lugar, de sus arroyos y sus campos.

Habiendo caminado un rato, comenzó a vislumbrar las casas de un sencillo poblado.

Las casas coloridas con las puertas abiertas de par en par irradiaban un aire de paz y alegría. Al viajero le resultaba difícil creerlo ¡él venía de un lugar tan distinto!

Poco a poco se siguió acercando. Vio unos niños jugando y a sus padres que salían a su encuentro y con una enorme sonrisa le invitaron a quedarse con ellos unos días.

El viajero aprendió muchas cosas, por ejemplo, a hornear el pan, a trabajar la tierra y a ordeñar las vacas pero había una cosa que le llenaba de curiosidad. Cada día, a veces en varias ocasiones, los miembros de la familia se acercaban a una mesita donde habían colocado las figuras de María y José, junto a un burrito color marrón y una vaca; y muy despacito dejaban una pajita entre María y José. Con el correr de los días la cantidad de pajitas iba aumentando e iban formando un colchoncito que se iba haciendo cada vez a más mullidito.

Cuando le llegó al viajero el momento de partir, la familia le entregó un pan calientito y frutas para el camino, lo abrazaron y se despidieron.

Ya se iba cuando, dándose vuelta, les dijo: – Quisiera hacerles una pregunta antes de marcharme, ¿por qué iban dejando esas pajitas a los pies de María y José?

Todos sonrieron y el niño más pequeño le dijo: – Cada vez que hacemos algo con amor, buscamos una pajita y la llevamos al pesebre.

Así vamos preparando para que cuando llegue el niñito Jesús, María tenga un buen lugar para recostarlo. Si amamos poco, el colchón va a ser un colchón delgado y por lo mismo frío pero si amamos mucho, Jesús va a estar más cómodo y calientito.

Por fin el viajero pareció comprenderlo todo y sintió ganas de quedarse con esa familia hasta la Nochebuena. Pero una voz dentro de sí lo invitó a llevar por otros pueblos el maravilloso mensaje de amor que había aprendido de esta sencilla familia.

FOR TOP DOLLAR 1. Price it right! – Too many homes sit on the market for months because a seller priced it too high only to then reduce the asking price and then look desperate to sell.

Get the comps for the most recent sales from your agent and then price it accordingly.

Pricing slightly lower than market price will get you more visits and more offers in a quicker time period.

2. Curb Appeal – First impressions count and you want buyers smiling as they pull up in their car and knock on the front door.

Plant flowers, touch up the exterior paint, the lamps and other landscaping. This is a quick and inexpensive fix. It also makes the home look great when photographed.

3. Professional Photography – Make sure your agent hires a professional photographer to make your home as attractive as possible.

Many agents take camera phone pics that don’t allow for wide angle views and have poor lighting. After browsing Zillow and property recommendations from their Realtor buyers will always choose to see the homes that look best in the photos. Virtual tours and 360 degree video work great also.

4. Remove Personal Items – Remove the family reunion photos and personal items.

Buyers want to want feel as if this could be “their home”. Too many personal photos will distract the buyer from the home features.

The buyers should be able to picture themselves living there.

5. Remove Clutter! – Donate your old clothing and make your walk-in closets look extra big! Keep the kitchen countertop free from unused appliances and make the space look bigger! You want your home to look as spacious as possible. This will also allow the buyer to imagine how he/she would “personalize it” once they move in!

6. Keep Clean – Your house needs to be “show-ready” at all times. You never know when your buyer is going to walk through the door. Keep the kids’ rooms organized, the dishes clean and the bathroom spotless.

Show the buyer that the homes has been well cared for. It may be inconvenient but it is well worth the effort.

7. Get a pre-inspection – Spend the $300 and hire an inspector to point out any problems and get them fixed prior to listing your home. When the buyer hires his inspector he will ask for a $1,000 deduction on something that could have been fixed on your own for less than half that amount.

3. Fotógrafo profesional – Asegura que tu agente utilice un fotógrafo profesional para hacer que tu casa se vea lo más atractiva posible. Muchos agentes toman fotos usando un teléfono celular y éste no tiene visión gran angular y tiene mala iluminación. La evidencia demuestra que cuando los posibles clientes revisan sitios como Zillow, y escuchan las recomendaciones de sus agentes, los compradores siempre prefieren visitar las casas que se ven mejor en las fotografías.

Los tours virtuales y los videos de 360 grados también dan muy buenos resultados.

4. Quita los objetos personales – Guarda las fotos de la reunión familiar y otros objetos personales. Los compradores quieren sentir que ésta pudiera ser su casa. 5. ¡Arregla el desorden! – Dona tu ropa vieja y haz que tus closets se vean lo más grande posible. Mantén las superficies de la cocina libres de aparatos que no se estén usando y así harás que el espacio se vea más grande. El objetivo siempre es hacer que la casa se vea lo más amplia posible.

Esto también le facilita al posible comprador el poder imaginar cómo se verían sus pertenencias en esos espacios.

6. Mantenla limpia – Tu casa debe estar lista para recibir visitas en todo momento.

How to keep the

Manatees Safe

IN FLORIDA THIS SEASON Manatee season has officially arrived, which means that manatees will be frequenting Florida’s waters.

Manatee season, which lasts from mid-November to the end of March, is an ideal time to see these gentle giants firsthand as they travel south toward warmer waters. While the manatees escape the northern winter chill, it is vital to be gracious hosts, making sure these creatures stay safe in their winter habitat and throughout the year. Whether you are staying on shore, going for a swim or boating on the water, here are a few ways you can help this protected species stay safe.

DISTANCE IS THE BEST FORM OF APPRECIATION

If you spot manatees, it is best to practice passive observation. While you may feel tempted to interact with and touch them, resist the urge. Manatees are slow moving creatures, and intrusion of their personal space can force them to waste energy trying to leave and avoid contact. These animals seem unharmed by your touch, but disturbances from humans can cause manatees to leave a warm water or forage area, which can expose them to harmful cold temperatures or boat traffic. Observing from a respectful and safe distance allows onlookers to get a deeper look into manatees’ natural behaviors in the wild. Manatee Lagoon can attract hundreds of manatees each season when conditions are right, and is a great place to peek right over the water to see manatees without interfering.

BE AWARE WHEN BOATING

As Floridians, we know that the winter season brings cooler temperatures, and many take advantage of ideal weather with a day on the water. Boating accidents, however, are one of the biggest dangers for manatees. In fact, according to the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, watercraft incidents account for nearly 30 percent of all manatee deaths. Surprisingly, boats can be barely visible from beneath the surface, and boater-manatee interactions can be tragic due to high-speed impacts.

Remember to stay in deep water channels, obey manatee protection and no wake zones and avoid seagrass beds where 36 L I V E D O R A L M A G A Z I N E . C O M

manatees may be feeding. And, of course, keep a close eye out for any snouts or flukes that may come up above the surface.

Another tell-tale sign are the ripples that manatee flukes generate when the animals are near the surface. If you see them, give a wide berth.

FEEDING FRENZY

Did you know manatees are herbivores that live mostly on sea grass and other vegetation? Do not feed or give water to any manatees that may approach you. Aside from disturbing their normal diet, there is a risk of a manatee feeling too comfortable around humans, which can lead them into harmful situations.

NO DEBRIS, PLEASE

Keep all trash and litter with you until you find a proper receptacle. Even the smallest pieces of waste can be ingested by a manatee or other sea creature and cause sickness or internal injury. There are believed to be 46,000 pieces of plastic in every square mile of ocean. These items are extremely harmful to animals because they take so long to break down. In order to keep our natural environments and wildlife thriving, we all must do our part to keep it clean and healthy, and that means keeping trash out of our waterways the best we can.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

The best way to make sure our manatees continue to prosper in Florida is by staying educated and informed. The more you

know about them, the more you appreciate these loveable and gentle creatures. T

he Doral City Council broke ground on a road project connecting NW 25 Street and NW 33 Street. This is part of the City’s Traffic Solution Triangle of connecting our roads and providing alternative routes to improve traffic flow and mobility.

“This road does not just connect two streets in Doral but it represents a new way of thinking in South Florida,” said Jorge Gomez, Public Works Director. The road will include four traffic lanes (two lanes in each direction), a stormwater drainage system, curb and gutters, street lighting, and a bicycle / pedestrian shared use path on the east side of the corridor.

This new roadway will enhance connectivity for residents of the Vanderbilt community, commuters, and freight traffic traveling to the industrial businesses in the area.

Furthermore, this connection will help improve emergency response times for Doral Police responding from the 97th Avenue Police substation, currently under construction.

What advice do you have for young dentists who aspire to achieve greatness in this field?

Never quit learning, we get out of Dental school with a long journey ahead and a world that evolves every second. Stay up to date with techniques and advances of the dental field.

What have you been most proud of in your career?

Being a foreign dentist, I am very proud of being able to become a licensed dentist in the United States of America, sounds easy but it’s a very hard process that takes a lot from you and requires discipline, and lots of dedication.

I am extremely proud of putting together a Dental practice with the latest technology and equipment’s. I am also very proud of leading a fantastic staff that in junction work very hard to bring the best services every day.

What are some career milestones still left for you to achieve?

What types of cosmetic cases are most rewarding for you?

There are special cases that definitely change a persons life; imagine giving someone the confidence to smile proudly, or giving a person the chance masticate his or her favorite steak; the ability to take someone back to feeling healthy and confident is extremely rewarding.

In terms of becoming a top cosmetic dentist, what are some of the best courses to take?

There is an endless list of dental continuous education but we need to understand that in today’s world of communication patients are very aware of what’s going on cosmetically, hence they have higher expectations, we as dentist’s need to be on top of new procedures.

Some techniques I recommend are: dental photography, digital smile planning, 3D radiology for implant planning & placement, joints evaluation and neuromuscular dentistry just to mention some.

As I mentioned before we need to be on top of our game and be in synchrony with the latest advance in dentistry. I am always looking to be able to provide the latest treatment and work with the latest equipment. We just acquired a Lightwalker Fotona Laser which allows me to perform many procedures without anesthesia such as laser gum treatment, rapid dental whitening,. This high tech laser also has applications to manage wrinkles around the mouth and neck, and it can be used in sleep apnea cases to reduce snoring. Keeping all of this in mind, I would like to develop a second practice location with expanded services and specialists on site like Orthodontists, Periodontists, Endodontists, Pediatric Dentists.

If you could wave a magic wand, what would you change about the future of dentistry?

Education for prevention of dental diseases and access to good quality treatments for everyone. I would a Health System that is more accessible to people without sacrificing the quality of services.

How do you see the future of dentistry?

Many years ago, it seemed impossible to fabricate a beautiful tooth or smile with a computer, today we can do that and so much more, maybe in the future it will be easy to grow your own tooth with stem cells or taking a pill to cure a cavity, who knows!

We are ahead of the curve in adopting dental technologies but I see in the future that every dentist will be educated and will adopt technology for their daily activities.
