Random Acts of Kindness Week

February 9th - 15th

Random Acts of Kindness Week takes place for one week each year, always taking place in mid-February. It's a week dedicated to kindness and taking that extra, conscious step to brighten somebody’s day.

The celebration was created by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation with the intention of encouraging more harmony and kindness between people by offering thoughtful gestures of kindness, no matter how big or small. It's closely linked to Random Acts of Kindness Day, which is usually during the same time period as Random Acts of Kindness Week.

A Random Act of Kindness could be surprising a colleague with coffee and a bagel, complimenting somebody on a job well done or placing a funny note in your child’s lunch box. There are so many ways that you can join in, spread some kindness and positivity and possible make someone's day!

Mailing Information

What address should I use to mail things?

Brottier Hall: 700 Forbes Avenue, Apt #, Pittsburgh, PA 15219

St. Martin Hall: 1315 Bluff St, Apt #, Pittsburgh, PA 15219

McGinley Hall: 1045 Forbes Avenue, Apt #, Pittsburgh, PA 15219

What is the process for picking up mail?

Paper mail is sorted and placed in your apartment mailbox. Please go to the front desk and request your mail key, check your mailbox, and return the mail key to the front desk. It is important that you check your mailbox regularly.

Packages will either be placed in the Amazon Hub or stored in the mail closet. You will receive an email from either the Amazon Hub or Package Tracker letting you know that you have a package to pick up.

How do I check my Amazon Hub Code?

If you did not receive an email with a Hub code in it, you can find your code in your Amazon account.

Go to Amazon website > Select your name in the top right corner above accounts & lists > Scroll down and click on any message that you have that says “You have a package to pick up at the Amazon Locker”

Once you click on that it will reveal a screen with a barcode, take that to the Hub and scan it to retrieve your package. Repeat these steps for any additional packages. This will work for any packages even if they aren’t from Amazon.

What if my package isn’t from Amazon, will it still be in the Hub?

Possibly! If your package is from another company, our staff often will put it in the Amazon Hub. You will get a notification from the Hub with a code to use to pick up the package. If the Hub is full, or the package is too big to fit in the Hub, the package will be in the Mail closet In that case, you will receive an email from Package Tracker stating that you have a package to pick up at the front desk

What if I get a notification that my package was delivered, but I haven’t gotten an email from package tracker or Amazon?

We have multiple mail shifts throughout the day Depending on when the package is delivered, it may take a few hours for the packages to be sorted by our staff

Additionally, double check the delivery address that you used Sometimes, the package will be delivered to your old residence or the Des Places Mail Center

What if I still can’t find my package?

If you tried all the steps above and still cannot find your package, check the website you ordered it from to see if they left a picture of where they delivered it This will help you figure out if it was delivered to the right area If it still isn’t there, please email LiveatLuminaDUQ@cocmcom Explain the situation and ask for help resolving the issue

PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THEFT

Recently it has come to our attention through Student Housing and Residence Life that there has been an increase of theft, specifically in unlocked cars in garages and by Watson St and McGinley Hall Unlocked vehicles seem to be the target.

See below for tips to protect yourself from theft:

1. Lock your doors

This is the first step in deterring a thief. Get into the habit of checking your car doors before you leave your car.

2. Close the windows

Keep your windows closed completely. Someone can easily reach into your car through an open window, taking what they can reach or unlocking the door to gain full access to your vehicle and everything in it.

3. Park in well-lit areas

Avoid parking in areas that are poorly lit or places that are not immediately seen by passers-by. Thieves may be deterred if they know they can easily be seen.

4. Don't leave valuables in your car

It's best to leave anything of value at home, but if you must have something important with you, keep it out of sight. Consider putting valuables in the trunk before you get where you need to be.

5. Be alert

Be aware of your surroundings when you park your car. Store valuables in an unseen location. Before you leave your car, double-check that your vehicle's windows and doors are closed and locked.

If you are a target of theft, be sure to report to Public Safety. Their non-emergency number is 412-396-6002.
