ALCOHOL AWARENESS WEEK: Community Rules

& Regulations

During the fall semester, DU Cares hosts an annual Alcohol Awareness Week to encourage safe, healthy behaviors within our community.

As a reminder, the minimum legal drinking age in the United States is 21 years old All students of legal drinking age are expected to consume alcohol responsibly Marijuana, whether prescribed or recreational, is not permitted on campus

Any person(s) found to be consuming or distributing alcohol or other substances will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including suspension and/or expulsion. Please see the graphic below for more information.

Checking in Alcohol:

One case of beer or malt beverage (cans only)

One (075 liters) bottle of distilled spirits, i.e. whiskey, bourbon, vodka, etc

One bottle of wine (15 liters or less)

All of the above must be in their original, unopened containers with clearly marked labels when checked in at your building’s front desk.

FIRE PREVENTION MONTH: Safe Practices to Help Everyone

Did you know that October is Fire Prevention Month? We practice at least one fire drill per semester in each of our buildings These fire drills are carried out to help maintain our community as a safe place to live and learn In the event of an alarm, all residents and guests must evacuate the building immediately Residents and their guests must respond to every alarm as if an emergency situation exists.

What are some ways you can ensure you are practicing proper fire safety?

Keep an eye on your food while actively using the oven or stovetop When you are finished, ensure that all dials and switches are set to the OFF position

Unplug heated appliances and tools (i.e., toasters, curling rods, flattening irons, heated mattress pads, etc.) while not in use.

Dispose of all trash in designated spaces Keeping our community clean ensures sanitary spaces for all of our community members in addition to eliminating fire hazards Please do not leave trash in hallways or walkways

Consider retiring your worn out chargers and other accessories with severed or exposed wiring.

Make sure all light switches and other electrical devices are securely in the OFF position or setting when not in use Allowing devices to be stored in midway positions like a light switch stuck between the ON and OFF position pose fire hazards and could cause electrical damages, resulting in a fire.

Notify the Front Desk of any concerns or damages IMMEDIATELY

RESIDENT MAIL GUIDE: Frequently Asked Questions

What address should I use to mail things?

Brottier Hall: 700 Forbes Avenue, Apt #, Pittsburgh, PA 15219

St. Martin Hall: 1315 Bluff St, Apt #, Pittsburgh, PA 15219

McGinley Hall: 1045 Forbes Avenue, Apt #, Pittsburgh, PA 15219

What is the process for picking up mail?

Paper mail is sorted and placed in your apartment mailbox Please go to the front desk and request your mail key, check your mailbox, and return the mail key to the front desk. It is important that you check your mailbox regularly. Packages will either be placed in the Amazon Hub or stored in the mail closet. You will receive an email from either the Amazon Hub or Package Tracker letting you know that you have a package to pick up

How do I check my Amazon Hub Code?

If you did not receive an email with a Hub code in it, you can find your code in your Amazon account.

Go to Amazon website > Select your name in the top right corner above accounts & lists > Scroll down and click on any message that you have that says “You have a package to pick up at the Amazon Locker”

Once you click on that it will reveal a screen with a barcode, take that to the Hub and scan it to retrieve your package. Repeat these steps for any additional packages. This will work for any packages even if they aren’t from Amazon.

What if my package isn’t from Amazon, will it still be in the Hub?

Possibly! If your package is from another company, our staff often will put it in the Amazon Hub You will get a notification from the Hub with a code to use to pick up the package If the Hub is full, or the package is too big to fit in the Hub, the package will be in the Mail closet. In that case, you will receive an email from Package Tracker stating that you have a package to pick up at the front desk.

What if I get a notification that my package was delivered, but I haven’t gotten an email from package tracker or Amazon?

We have multiple mail shifts throughout the day Depending on when the package is delivered, it may take a few hours for the packages to be sorted by our staff. Additionally, double check the delivery address that you used. Sometimes, the package will be delivered to your old residence or the Des Places Mail Center.
