Dear EO Members,

Message From Our President Gaynor MacArthur

As we embrace the crisp air and golden hues of autumn, I can hardly believe that my year as president is swiftly drawing to a close. It feels just like yesterday that we embarked on this journey together, and what an incredible journey it has been thus far!

Reflecting on our many achievements, I am filled with immense pride, especially as I think of our chapter’s remarkable recognition on the global stage at GLC in Hawaii. Although I couldn’t be there in person to celebrate, my heart swelled with joy, knowing that our incoming president, Anton Gillis, and members of his incoming board were present to witness firsthand the fruits of our collective efforts. Their presence was a testament to the continuity and strength of our leadership. I cannot extend enough gratitude to the dedicated board members whose tireless work has made these accomplishments possible. Your passion and commitment have been nothing short of inspiring

One particular highlight that deserves special mention is our very own Jo for winning the Best Chapter Manager in the MEPA region. This recognition speaks to Jo’s unwavering dedication and exceptional support. We are incredibly fortunate to have her on our team. Her contributions have been integral to our chapter’s success, and I know I speak for the entire board when I say that we couldn’t have achieved what we have without her invaluable assistance.

Our chapter is stronger than ever, and we are committed to continuing this momentum as we move forward. I encourage you all to watch for upcoming invitations; you won’t want to miss what’s ahead!

Again, thank you for your support and for being part of this incredible journey. Here’s to finishing the year with the same energy, enthusiasm, and excellence that has brought us this far.

With Gratitude, Excitement and Radiance, Gaynor - President, EO Cape Town

Exciting News

Our New EO Cape Town Website is live!

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our new EO Cape Town website, a fresh platform designed as a key marketing tool to attract new members and strategic partners; the site highlights our global reach, chapter offerings, membership benefits, and leadership team.

It showcases how EO Cape Town empowers entrepreneurs to grow personally and professionally. With its clean design, intuitive navigation, and room to grow, this platform marks an exciting step forward for our chapter.

A huge thank you to our new strategic partner, Woww for doing an incredible job building the new site and to everyone who contributed to bringing this project to life.

Presidents’ Meeting hosted in Berlin (February 2025)

Gathering at the Hilton Berlin, leaders from across Europe, MEPA, and the South Asia regions shared insights, challenges, and aspirations. The atmosphere was charged with a collective commitment to growth and excellence.

One of the most enriching aspects was connecting deeply with fellow presidents and chapter staff. Engaging in candid conversations, we delved into the nuances of leadership, the intricacies of our respective markets, and the universal challenges we face. These dialogues reinforced the power of community and the importance of shared experiences.

Membership & Diversity

As we settle into Q4 of the year, it’s inspiring to reflect on the health and momentum of our chapter. EO Cape Town is thriving not just in numbers but also in the richness of connection, diversity of perspectives, and strength of our member-led culture. Here are some powerful stats that highlight just how healthy our ecosystem is, both globally and right here at home:

19,523

This growth is not by chance; it’s the result of intentional connection, shared values, and the magnetic pull of a community that believes in something greater. More members mean more stories, more learning, and a more expansive EO experience for all of us. Being there for the leaders who shape South Africa’s future also amplifies our ability to make a meaningful impact on entrepreneurship in South Africa. Being a diverse Chapter is a key objective for us, by attracting different voices in the room, we are challenged in the way we think and see the world in an alternate way. Please continue sending us member referrals; we want to see beautiful diversity in our chapter. Remember, if you successfully refer a new member, you qualify for an EO voucher valued at R5,000.

It’s important to remember that your EO Journey is shaped by what you bring to it. Your experience is crafted not just by what’s offered but also by how you choose to engage with it. If you’re seeking more value, the invitation is simple: show up. Say yes to the events, forums, travel, global network, and conversations.

Every “yes” brings you closer to this community’s magic.

Here’s to sustainable growth, deep connection, and leading boldly together.

With gratitude, Anton Gillis & Andile Khumalo

Learning

I can’t believe that it’s been nearly a year since I stepped into the role of Learning Chair, and what a year it’s been. I’m thrilled to have been invited to stay on for another term, and we are already curating a fresh, dynamic learning calendar for the year ahead. Thanks to your enthusiasm and support, EO Cape Town ranked #1 globally for the quantity of learning events. Delivering three learning events a month is no small feat, and it’s a testament to the incredible appetite for growth and connection within our chapter. To maintain this momentum and push our learning experiences to even greater heights, we’ve formed a Learning Committee of powerhouse members: Simone Musgrave, Pieter Geldenhuys, and Arnold Shapiro. Together, we’re committed to delivering a diverse mix of ITBs, only-in-EO moments, transformational talks, and business deep-dives that challenge, inspire, and connect.

We’re especially excited to announce that AI Empowered: Inspired by EO Cape Town will launch soon. It’s a two-day summit on 7 & 8 August that explores how AI is reshaping the world of business and beyond, so SAVE THE DATE! This will be a flagship event for our chapter, and we want to showcase EO members and member companies as much as possible.

Thank you to everyone who answered our call to get involved. If you’re in the world of AI, or working at the intersection of tech and innovation, and have something valuable to share with a forward-thinking audience, there are still a couple of speaking slots available. Please contact me before the end of May if you’d like to be part of it, or if your business would like to participate in producing or supporting the summit. Here’s to another exciting year of learning, connection, and growth!

RECAP FROM THE LAST QUARTER

Beating the Curve, Optimising Healthspan with Dr Jedd Myers

Dr Jedd Myers gave a captivating talk on how we think about our health, thinking about health-span instead of lifespan and posing the question: “If you want to be able to lift your grandkids at 70, you need to start training now”. Whilst nutrition and supplements are important, Dr Myers argues that resistance training and cardio are equally important. We received practical takeaways regarding how to tweak our lifestyle to maximise a full life.

Quote:

“Thanks, Jedd! The presentation was phenomenal and definitely motivated me to take some action to increase my health span!” -Rich Marshall

Manuela Dias de Deus

ITB with Andiswa Bata

With almost 360-degree views of Cape Town, we were privileged to host an ITB with Andiswa Bata, Head of FNB Business. Honest, warm, and inspiring, Andiswa shared insights that left a lasting impression. Andiswa was relatable and real. She helped us acknowledge the ‘Negative Committee’ in our heads and how she’s learned to tell it to sit down and shut up. She encouraged entrepreneurs to prioritise happiness by doing things that make them proud outside of workvolunteering, exercising, and nourishing their spirit.

Quotes:

“My biggest takeaway? Always be over-prepared. It’s the mindset that takes you far.”

-Naledi Mashego “What a powerhouse! Andiswa spoke candidly about her journey, embracing both opportunities and setbacks as fuel for growth and learning.” -Gaynor MacArthur

ITB with Mike Scott

What a treat it was to have Mike Scott, an EO Cape Town Elumni, share his incredible story with us. Mike shared the highs and lows of building Nona Digital. We also heard about the importance of having a visionary and an integrator in our businesses, the value of having that push and pull, and the respect and thought he gave to his employees in the process. His lasting message was: to surround yourself with good people, people you want to be with every day, and that mood follows action … manage your mood so you can take even a small step forward.

Quote:

“Mike’s story about his journey with Nona was packed with impactful lessons for service businesses and the emotional roller coaster of ‘acquiring’. Thanks for the candid shares, Mike! I will be reflecting repeatedly on your lessons,” -Trevor Gowing

Stormer Stadium Tour: “Rugby, culture, and the power of purpose.”

It was a privilege to join a private behind-the-scenes tour of Cape Town Stadium with Stormers CEO Johan le Roux. From the tunnel to the team locker rooms, and even witnessing the captain’s run… It was a front-row experience to a team about so much more than just rugby.

Kerina Govender ruminated:

“We heard Coach John Dobson, Captain Salmaan Moerat, and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu speak about their purpose: “To make Cape Town smile.” That line stayed with me because that’s what I strive for too. I want to bring joy, pride, and a real impact to the people and places I care about most. Whether through business, community, or leadership, making Cape Town smile means building something meaningful and human. This experience reminded me how aligned I am with this city, its energy, its heart, its people”

Engagement

It’s been a season of sparkle, connection and momentum as we strengthen the bonds that make our chapter thrive. On 1 March, our Summer Social lit up the night. There was great energy and laughter - a proper jol. It was a sparkly reminder of the magic that happens when we come together to enjoy each other’s company. Yvonne hosted a beautiful New Members Graduation Dinner at The Alphen at the end of March, an evening of warmth, reflection, and celebration as we officially welcomed our newest members. Here’s to more connection, joy, and shared experiences in the months ahead.

Blind date lunches: from Winelands, Kloof Street , Constantia to Sea Point … The 20th March saw our 1st round of our Mystery Blind Dates. Thanks to our chief herder-of-cats, Chapter Manager Jo Grace, for creating the magic and our members for braving the unknown and trusting the process. The next round takes place on 20 June so register now

Again, the feedback was incredible:

“The experience was amazing. The grouping was extremely well-positioned, and no one knew what they were walking into. The conversation flowed without much need to run through the guided notes, but reflecting back, we all answered most of the questions. Great Job!” -Clint Cawood

“The EO blind dates series is a highlight for me. This year’s date welcomed a relaxed and delicious meal with new and old friends, lively discussions and plenty of learning. Looking forward to the next one already!” -Kim Whitaker

Summer Social

The Sparkling Summer Social didn’t disappoint. Tekkies squeaked, the bass pumped, and everyone left on a high. The lights of Muizenberg twinkled in the distance behind our high-energy headliner, GoodLuck. DJ Rizzo pulled out all the stops and had us throwing shapes on the dance floor, not wanting to leave. Thank you to our hosts Simo and Yasmina, Gaynor, our president, and all of you for bringing the gees. It was lovely to see so many EO, EOA, NEXT GEN, tenured members, and even Elumni.

Wine Tasting, Drumstruck Show & Sunset Braai – Epic SA vibes! MEPA Bridge hosted their Chapter Retreat in Cape Town. What a treat it was to meet over 50 members from the MEPA Bridge region at our unforgettable Drumstruck event!

Quote:

“Thank you to Warren and team Drumstruck - I loved the passionate energy, smiles and dancing!” -Nicola Nel

Forum News

Our Forum community continues to grow, deepen, and shine, and the past few months have been a powerful reflection of that momentum. We were honoured to host EO trainer Brian Brault from Buffalo, New York, for an in-person Moderator Training. This training equipped our leaders with tools to elevate the Forum experience across the board. Brian also led 13 in-person Forum Workshops, creating space for transformative conversations and realignment within our existing groups. The impact has been profound. Thokozani Nhlapo, Clayton Campbell, Judy Walter, Andile Khumalo, Justin Lester and Mark Kalkwarf have just attended the EO Moderator Summit in Dubai. Our Next Gen forums continue to thrive, and we’ve recently welcomed new members into both groups, injecting fresh energy and perspective into this vital part of our EO ecosystem. As always, Forum is the heartbeat of EO, and I’m grateful to be part of this incredible journey with each of you.

Forum 3 in Pakistan: Yvonne

Wakfield

sums it up

We had the incredible opportunity to visit Lahore and Islamabad and spend two magical nights in the foothills of the Himalayas, all thanks to our forum’s travel unicorn, Carla Ferreira. From savouring incredible local food (and learning how to cook it ourselves!) to forging meaningful connections with locals, the trip was packed with unforgettable experiences. We even found ourselves immersed in the inner workings of three police stations, a unique and eye-opening perspective. It was an epic retreat, thoroughly enjoyed by some (looking at you, Don), and slightly less so by others (sorry, Alon), but undeniably connecting and perspective-shifting for all.

SLP Forum 3 Retreat: Slowing Down on the Fynbos Trail

The Lotus Effect, aka SLP Forum 3, recently escaped the city and stepped into nature for a soul-nourishing few days on the Fynbos Trail near Hermanus. The Retreat was a beautiful blend of walking, talking, and unwinding with just the right mix of reflection, connection, and wine by the fire. Surrounded by rolling hills, fresh air, and some much-needed quiet, the group spent time deepening conversations, sharing stories, and reconnecting with what matters both individually and as a Forum. Whether hiking through the Fynbos, relaxing in the hot tub, or lingering over long, laughter-filled meals, the retreat reminded us just how powerful it can be to pause, unplug, and be fully present with each other. A special thank you to Sonja McGillicuddy for putting this beautiful Retreat together - and for curating our very special Lotus Retreat playlist!

Forum 6 - Slick six at Doringbos

Each forum hosts an annual retreat as part of the EO forum experience. It’s amazing to see the incredible connection that the forum mindset enables, allowing the members to have these unique opportunities, not least getting to explore the best of our beautiful country. Last month, it was the turn of Forum 6, who escaped to the vast beauty of Doringbos, a gorgeous farm deep in the Cederberg mountains, for a retreat designed to unplug and expand.

EO Member Judy Walter summed it up:

“With no cellphone signal, and no rush, we gave ourselves the gift of slowing down. We went on what we called a “connection quest” quad biking through rugged terrain, sharing open conversations, and watching the sunset from a mountaintop with breathtaking views of the vast Cederberg landscape. One of the highlights was gathering around the fireplace under the stars - just us and the night sky. This reminded us of the bigger picture and the importance of stepping away to reconnect.”

NEXT Gen Breede River

The Next Gen Forum (Kirsten, Liza, Kieran, Abby, Kai, and Hannah) recently went on an unforgettable retreat to the beautiful Breede River, where we deepened connections and made lasting memories. During their getaway, we held a meaningful Forum session, did our Lifelines, played many UNO games, tubed and swam in the river, enjoyed countless braais, and even fended off a surprise centipede invasion. From spontaneous roadside stops to making pizza dough from scratch for their pizza night, every moment was filled with laughter, teamwork, and growth.

MyEO

It’s been a wild and fulfilling quarter as your MyEO Chair. There’s real energy behind what we’re building, and I’m so excited for what’s ahead. One of the biggest themes this quarter has been finding ways to stay connected and make MyEO feel accessible and exciting for all EO members. Whether you’re passionate about creating, joining, or simply showing up, we want you in the mix.

Here’s what’s new and what’s coming your way in 2025:

MYEO HIGHLIGHTS

Steenberg Golf Day – Tee time!

On Sunday, the 4th of May, the fairways of Steenberg welcomed a motley foursome of EO members and MEPA Bridge guests for a MyEO Golf Day that was less Tiger Woods, more Happy Gilmore. While birdies were rare and bogeys abundant, the real hole-in-one was the camaraderie. Under cloudless skies and on a course in championship condition, we proved once again that while our handicaps may vary, our shared spirit of connection is always under par.

Hawaii Yacht

EO members set sail aboard the Vida Mia for an unforgettable afternoon in Honolulu, Hawaii. With a live DJ, delicious food, and great company, the energy was high and the vibe was pure aloha. An incredible day of connection and celebration - a true MyEO highlight!

Dana Gordon-Davis

Accelerator

We hosted an impactful quarterly People Learning Day and Masterclass focused on building stronger teams. Most recently, we had a successful Strategy Day, and there are more Masterclasses to come. We’re also thrilled to announce Dana Gordon-Davis as our incoming Chair. With over 25 years of global M&A experience and a deep connection to our community, Dana’s leadership is set to take us even further. On top of that, we’re celebrating some big wins:

Cape Town now makes up 41% of all Accelerators in MEPA, with 65 ACES in total.

Since July, 32 new Accelerators have joined us, including eight under 35 and 24 women. Diversity makes us stronger.

Global Student Entrepreneurship Awards

The competition was tough in Pakistan at the EO Majlis regional MEPA event, with 14 extraordinary students sharing their businesses and entrepreneurial journey. We are excited to announce that our South Africa GSEA finalist, Tumisho Thobejane, smashed the MEPA quarterfinals, winning $1000 and then went on to the global semi-finals hosted by EO Cape Town. Her business, Foodable, not only tackles food waste but also food security in a dignified way. It is a social enterprise that partners with fast food chains to repurpose excess food into meals. Donors fund the purchase of surplus food that would normally be thrown away.

Tokens are distributed to people in need via food drives. Tokens can be exchanged for a meal at participating fast food restaurants. Tumisho studies Biomedical Technology at Vaal University of Technology. Watch this space for more GSEA news.

SLP Corner: Connection, Community & Cape Town Magic

The EO Cape Town SLP community has been buzzing with connection over the past few months, and we’re loving the energy!

THE MYTH ABOUT SLP

We’ve heard it all, from book club to knitting circle. However, while the name might be easy to misunderstand, the SLP community is anything but quaint. This is where real conversations happen, growth is intentional, and support runs deep. Here’s what SLP is not ... and what it really is:

For those who think SLP is just a cosy little knitting or book club... where we sip tea, compare bookmarks, and debate the emotional depth of yarn.

SLP4 Forum Launched

Because what SLPs are actually doing is showing up for each other, growing together, and having real, energising conversations that move life (and sometimes mountains) forward.

SLP4 kicked off last month with a powerful first meeting, bringing together another incredible group of life partners who are curious, committed, and ready to grow. With four active forums running, the momentum behind the SLP community continues to build, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead. A big thank you to Rebecca Stürmer for offering to be the Seed Moderator for our new Forum.

SLP Sunset Cruise

Our SLP Sunset Cruise was a big hit, and the Global SLP Chair, Celena Tousley, attended the cruise. We set sail with an incredible group of SLPs and their partners for a golden-hour cruise filled with laughter, conversation, and unbeatable views of the Cape Town coastline. It was a night to remember and a reminder of how powerful shared experiences can be.

Quotes:

“It was a beautiful evening, perfect weather. Great company. Fantastic event.” -Rebecca Stürmer

“It was such a spoil to sail around our beautiful city, watching the sunset in incredible company. Thank you so much!” -Sonja McGillicuddy

“It’s great spending time with my wife in the EO environment. Especially just enjoying ourselves and not always learning or having to concentrate.“ -Dustin Botha

SLP Sunset Hike #3

Our third hike in the SLP Sunset Series brought together nature lovers for another stunning evening workout up Kloof Corner. Following a picnic and bubbles at the top, it was the perfect way to end the day, take a break from the grind, and meet up with fellow SLPs. These events are part of our commitment to building meaningful community among SLPs, where friendships grow alongside entrepreneurial journeys. Stay tuned for what’s next, and if you have ideas or would like to host something, we’d love to hear from you!
