Regional Marketing & Communications Expert 2024/2025

The year is already in full swing, and this book captures the spirit of where we’ve come from and where we’re headed. EO MEPA is always in motion, driven by the passion, courage, and leadership of members like you who shape our story every single day.

As we continue this journey together, I would like to extend a personal invitation: join us at Unleashed and the MEPA Leadership Summit in Tunisia. These gatherings are transformative moments where ideas are born, connections deepen, and leaders step into their fullest potential.

This year also marks an exciting new chapter as we welcome Osama AI Saif as our new Communications Expert.

His vision and energy will help us share our collective story with greater clarity and impact.

And finally, I encourage you to take the next bold step by applying for the Path of Leadership. EO thrives because members like you choose to serve, to guide, and to inspire.

Joining the leadership team at EO MEPA means more than holding a role; it means shaping the future of our region and discovering new dimensions of your own leadership journey.

Together, let’s celebrate what we’ve achieved, lean into what’s ahead, and keep moving forward because EO is not just an organisation, it’s a movement.

Dear EO Family,

Incoming Editor’s Message

Regional Marketing & Communications Expert 2025/2026

As I step into the role of Communications Expert, I am truly honoured by the trust placed in me by Ganesh and our Regional Council.

This year, some of my key goals include supporting our region’s growth objectives, strengthening our leadership and GSEA initiatives, and ensuring that smaller chapters are fully supported while all chapters are consistently highlighted across our website and social media presence.

We are also committed to supporting new

chapter launches, helping them find their voice and visibility from the very beginning.

But this can only be achieved together. I call on your support, be active, keep your events and social posts EO-branded, and let’s proudly showcase the impact of our community.

Together, let’s take EO to the Middle East, Africa and Pakistan like never before.

Thank you once again for your confidence. I look forward to amplifying the voice of our region with you.

Thank You to FY2024/2025 Board

MEPA Regional Update

Hello MEPA Family,

As Colin Powell once said, "You don't know what you can get away with until you try”. Looking back on the past two years, I can honestly say we've gotten away with quite a lot!

We've made bold moves, tackled challenges head-on, and built memories that will stay with us forever. I couldn't have asked for a better group of entrepreneurs to serve, a more diverse and dynamic region to represent, or a more rewarding role that helped me grow.

Every win belongs to a tireless, passionate, and purpose-driven team of volunteers, staff, and members who showed up, leaned in, and made it happen. Thank you for being part of this incredible journey. The best is still ahead—and I can’t wait to see what MEPA creates next.

As I close out my term as Regional Chair, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to each one of you who helped shape MEPA’s journey over the past two years.

To our Global Leadership Team that supported MEPA—Lynn Anstett, Jamie Pujara, Joaquin Cordero, David Nilssen, Khuram Saleem, Dave Loaney, Taunya Renison Martin, Prabhakar Kadavasal, Leslie Rugaber, and Alan Cheung— thank you for your mentorship and guidance as I navigated through the two years and belief in the potential our region holds for EO.

To the Regional Directors, Area Directors,

Experts, and Board Members - outgoing and incoming - your dedication, leadership, and energy have built a stronger, more united MEPA. You’ve led with heart, empowered those around you, and left behind a legacy of purpose-driven impact.

To our incredible Global, Regional and Chapter staff, especially those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and supported MEPA, Russell, Beth M, Anna H, May, Roselyn, Jean-Pierre, Gareth, Angela, Julia, Leti, Isha, Isely, Yrene, Charie, Myrna, Ravi, Michelle Degraff, Merin and many others - thank you. You were the engine that kept everything running smoothly. Your support and your trust and belief in our vision has led to our success. A special shoutout to our incredible Chapter Managers: your dedication is the glue that keeps our region connected. Thank you for being the bridge that brings us all together.

To those who stepped up during critical moments, guided, challenged, encouraged, and supported, thank you for helping create lasting memories and meaningful progress that advanced our shared mission. I am honored and humbled for this opportunity to serve you, and I wish you all the best on your entrepreneurial journeys.

Onward and upward, Faizan Syed Regional Chair (2023–2025) Entrepreneurs’ Organization – MEPA Region

OUR TOP 3 EVENTS

Beyond the Ballot

Hot on the heels of our national election in May 2024, EO, together with YPO, hosted a joint learning event at the Homecoming Centre. Members braved the cold and pre-parliamentary road closures and marching bands to attend and they were not disappointed. Rebecca Davis and Marianne Thamm from the Daily Maverick opened the event with incredible energy and sharp shooting dialogue that had attendees on the edge of their seats. This was followed by a heated panel discussion featuring Refilwe Moloto, EO member Andile Khumalo, and YPO member Tim Harris on the current political landscape. A huge thank you to our Learning Chair, Manuela Dias Des Deus, and to all who joined and contributed to a memorable start to the 2024/2025 Learning calendar.

Family Day

We marked the start of Spring on 1 September with an incredible Family Day full of connection, food, fun and entertainment. The weather gods smiled on us as our EO families gathered at the beautiful Leopard’s Leap Winery in Franschhoek. The kids loved the DIY pizza stations, homemade ice creams and bicycle pump tracks, while the adults enjoyed the wine-tasting stations and a delectable harvest table. Our NEXT GEN volunteers made up flower crowns to celebrate Spring while the kids played tug of war and party games. We concluded the day with a beautiful music session featuring the talented Zolani Mahalo, Aron Halevi, and Skye Dladla.

Summer Social

Our extended EO community came together on 1 March to celebrate our Annual Summer Social . Our president, Gaynor MacArthur, reflected on the incredible year in EO and gave us much to look forward to the next few months of her presidency. The bass pumped and the lights of Muizenberg twinkled in the distance behind our high-energy headliner, GoodLuck. While resident DJ Rizzo, aka EO Cape Town member Richard Rayne, pulled out all the stops and had us throwing shapes on the dance floor, we didn’t want to leave. A big thank you to our hosts, EO members Yasmina and Simo Khubeka and to the wider EO community for bringing their amazing energy and dancing shoes.

Family Day

This year, EO Johannesburg reimagined our traditional Family Day and introduced something broader, deeper, and more inclusive: the very first EO Play Date.

More than just a name change, Play Date was built on the belief that connection comes in many forms. Whether you arrived with children, a partner, a friend, or simply showed up as yourself, this was a space where you could be fully present, play, laugh, and connect on a truly human level.

These snapshots capture the joy, energy, and meaningful connection that made the day so special. From spontaneous play to intentional conversation, every moment reminded us of the power of showing up and sharing time together.

Welcome Witbooi

We welcomed Welcome Witbooi, a former Cape Flats gangster whose gripping transformation captivated EO J members from start to finish. Once entrenched in violence and crime, Welcome had a life-altering spiritual awakening behind bars. Against all odds, he walked away from gang life, knowing it might cost him everything.

Now a fearless storyteller, he challenges entrepreneurs with one unforgettable question: If I could find purpose after that life … what’s your excuse?

His talk was raw, real, and deeply thought-provoking, reminding us that courage, change, and impact begin with a decision.

Key takeaways:

Never judge. Listen to understand. Everyone has the ability to grow and change. Be present for your children, forgive yourself and lead from the heart.

ITB with Greg Solomon, CEO of McDonald’s South Africa

We believe in creating opportunities that go beyond the ordinary, and this session with Greg Solomon, CEO of McDonald’s South Africa, was a perfect example.

From his personal experiences to the strategies behind building one of the world’s most iconic brands, attendees walked away inspired and equipped with actionable takeaways to apply to their businesses.

This event showcased what makes EO Johannesburg so valuable: intimate, high-impact experiences with industry leaders who challenge our thinking and help us grow—not just as entrepreneurs but as leaders in all aspects of our lives.
