A KENTUCKY CASTLE
We’ve been serving Nashville since 1996, and we’re proud to offer two convenient locations and one amazing experience to all of our customers.
We live in an efficiency and productivity-obsessed age. And I admit - I fall into the trap sometimes too. The trap of believing the only things worth doing are those for which I can make an exact calculation of the time, effort and investment it will cost me. The things that result in the highest level of control and least amount of uncertainty.
But the truth is - that is really a sad and unfulfilling way to go through life.
We must leave some room for exploring, for trying new places and things, for being a beginner, even for getting lost. It is those times that are unstructured and open-ended where the space exists for connections to be made, friendships to be fostered and trust to be built.
In the last few months, I've really been analyzing my relationship with my kids, how our family operates as a unit and what we love spending our time doing. The way I made this more clear, was to first focus on the things that I don't love spending time on. For our family - it’s screens. For yours, it may be too many busy weeknights away from home or not enough dinners around the table together. But I've noticed that "adventures" and “exploration” doesn't even have to be something big and crazy. It can be playing a board game out on the patio, walking a new trail or going out to find a fun cookie place we've never been to before in a different part of town.
Our hope is that this issue encourages you to make room for exploration. To prioritize time away from the regular schedule of life. To lose yourself on a trail or in a book. To book that trip you’ve been thinking about, to make time for the things that matter most to you, but often come last on the calendar.
If April showers bring May flowers, make time to play in the rain!
Happy April!

Each community has its own unique identity, values and needs. The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee (CFMT), founded in 1991, leads the effort to collaborate with philanthropic donors and corporations to support their wishes and help match this giving spirit with nonprofit organizations in 40 counties in order to enhance individual communities.
“We have a direct line of communication with the nonprofits that are doing the
amazing work and providing such incredible services,” says Pat Lawson, its regional affiliates coordinator. “At the same time, we’re also in constant communication and have relationships with government officials and Chambers of Commerce to discover the needs of communities.” They are then able to bring all these groups together to have roundtable educational discussions with the goal of transitioning potential donors into actual donors.
MATCHING DONORS WITH NONPROFITS TO MAXIMIZE IMPACT IN OUR COMMUNITIES
One of the ways the foundation ensures donors’ trust and confidence is by having a set of criteria that the charities have to meet. “In order to be eligible to apply and receive a grant from one of our funds, they have to have been a 501(c)(3) for at least three years,” he says. “This is used as a delineation to make sure that they’re a thriving, sustainable nonprofit that’s going to be around long term.”
Pat wants to make sure it's understood that CFMT is not in competition with nonprofit organizations. “We very much encourage donors to continue their annual giving to the nonprofits and to the charities of their choice. What we want to do is maximize the services that are being rendered. By a donor partnering with us, they can be sure that their hard-earned dollars will be utilized to the maximum benefit.”
CFMT is a savings account, explains Pat, for community priorities. “Our endowment model is when you invest and/or you open up a fund through us, those dollars are utilized in long-term sustainable growth. That allows a simple donation or a simple initial fund to grow over time.”
For example, if someone gives $100 to their church every year, when that person passes away, so does that yearly donation. But if they were to set up a fund, that $100 could continue to grow and their philanthropic giving would then last for the life of that church.
There are different ways to accomplish a charitable goal through CFMT. “Say your grandmother is very interested in giving $100 to an animal shelter,” he says. “I would direct her to our Giving Matters platform. When she searches for animal shelters, those nonprofits will pop up. Then, there's a button that says ‘Donate,’ and that amount goes directly to that nonprofit.
“But again, this $100 can also be put into a fund so that her gift will continue to give over the life of the fund. She can easily search for a fund on our website that matches her interest.”
However, if grandma has a sudden windfall and wants to do something philanthropic and tax deductible, she could set up her own fund. “We offer low-cost administrative services and we handle all the back-office work, all the tax filings and the charitable donation letters of the 1,600 funds that we manage and support,” says Pat.
Every dollar makes a difference and when those resources are pooled together, it creates a bigger impact. This is why the beehive has become the symbol of the foundation. “To give an analogy on how our foundation works, one bee can't make honey by itself,” he says. “It takes the entire colony to go out and pollinate the flowers and then bring that pollination back to make honey. So, it takes a whole community to make those around us better.”
Last year, The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee awarded more than $2.8M in grants to organizations in 34 counties across Middle Tennessee. The average grant size was $6,431.
Here are just a few:
— Bridges Domestic Violence Center. To provide specific assistance to domestic violence victims in the form of prescriptions, physical and mental health care, diapers and certificate replacements.
— Friends of Williamson County Animal Center/Williamson Animal Services: To provide spay/neuter services for 750 community pets at no cost to owners who pre-qualify based on household income.
— Heritage Foundation of Williamson County: To produce a countywide Geographic Information System Historic and Cultural Resource Survey, which will digitally map and record all historic and cultural resources.

When we began searching for an architect for HGTV Urban Oasis 2022, we wanted someone with fresh, modern ideas. We were introduced to Turner Binkley and couldn’t be more pleased with his work. Turner designed the home using a brilliant mix of modern elements and traditional style that perfectly celebrates the vibrant city of Nashville. The home is flooded with natural light from skylights throughout and features a studio-styled garage and deck for entertaining. Turner had so many creative ideas for the space and was incredibly easy to work with. We’d recommend him to anyone looking for a beautifully bold and refreshing take on residential design.

“The Bookshop opened in East Nashville in 2016. Owner Joelle Herr—who worked as a book editor for nearly two decades before then—thoughtfully researches, considers, and chooses each and every title on the shelves: ‘Yes, we have the popular, anticipated titles that readers are looking for, but we also offer unexpected, irresistible gems that most have never even heard of. In this day and age of online shopping, it’s so important to offer browsers the delight of exploration and discovery.’ Some of the genres in the 500-square-foot ‘nook for people who love beautiful books’ (our tagline) include cooking, memoir and biography, history, science and nature, music, childrens, and fiction.”

Nate Bargatze comes to us live, fresh from two big events. First, an appearance on James Corden alongside Jamie Lee Curtis. Second, a special engagement, career day at his daughter’s school. You might have missed buying tickets to his sold-out Bridgestone Arena tour stop on April 15, 2023, but you can catch him on Amazon with his latest show, Hello World, or right here, talking to Brentwood Lifestyle about his plans, his craft, and his family.
BL: THANKS, NATE, FOR TAKING THE TIME TO SPEAK WITH BRENTWOOD LIFESTYLE MAGAZINE. YOU GREW UP IN NASHVILLE. WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO LIVE HERE?
NB: Yes, I'm from Old Hickory. In 2003, I had a buddy who wanted to go to Second City [an improvisational theater troupe based in Chicago], and back then I was reading water meters in Mount Juliet. So I went, first to Chicago, and then to New York, and then to LA. I've been back for about seven years. I started touring a lot,
and it’s easier to tour out of Nashville. I can go to LA easily when needed.
BL: HOW DO YOU INCORPORATE BEING NASHVILLE-BASED INTO YOUR ACT WHEN TOURING TAKES YOU TO OTHER PLACES?
NB: I’ve always just done my act, that’s been the simplest way, and then you either see if the audience is going to come along or if they're not. People take jokes differently. In my first Amazon special, Hello World, I talk about being brought up Christian and not being allowed to watch certain movies. In the south, people get that part in a very relatable way because that's how a lot of them grew up. In other places, they kinda laugh at it instead of with it. It’s really about being authentically yourself. It’s the easiest approach to write and no one can take it away, because it’s essentially you. No one has your unique point of view, your essence, and the way you tell them is what makes the jokes work.
BL: DO YOU PREPARE DIFFERENTLY FOR YOUR EUROPEAN TOUR COMPARED TO YOUR AMERICAN TOUR?
NB: Not really. You can overthink what people are going to get and what they aren’t. Audiences are smart, so they’re gonna get it. I am nervous though! It's one thing to bomb at home. It's another thing to take it worldwide.
BL: WHAT DOES CREATING COMEDY LOOK LIKE?
NB: It’s 24 hours for me. Right now I'm building a new hour-long show, so I’m always observing. I think about it all day. Seinfeld said it’s like you’re watching yourself in situations, almost like you have a third eye that can look out for any ideas. [Once I have the ideas] I think about the order, and how I can get from one joke into another joke. Before a show I’ll write a set list so I can keep track of where I’m going, where are the new jokes and where it all fits in. It doesn’t turn off. I’d love for it to turn off, but it doesn’t.
BL: DO YOU EVER HAVE TO COURSECORRECT IN THE MIDDLE OF AN ACT?
NB: Yes, comedians refer to it as a crowd feeling “tight” sometimes it's hard to get your rhythm because you end up telling your jokes faster, maybe they aren’t laughing as long, so you either have to speed it up or maybe you shorten jokes. You're just kind of in the moment figuring it out. Sometimes it’s me asking "why does it feel weird in here?" - and that can save a show.
BL: HOW DO IN-PERSON HECKLERS DIFFER FROM INTERNET HECKLERS?
NB: Heckling in live shows does not happen as often as you might think, usually, everyone is watching the show. As for online, I try not to look at comments but it's very hard not to, and I have spurts where I won’t read anything and spurts where I’ll get in a spiral. Sometimes I look at criticism to see if there’s truth to any of it, and if there is, I try to answer that and better [my] self. If someone says something that I think I want to respond to, the rule is to give it 24 hours, but you really never want to respond.
BL: YOUR COMEDY IS FAMILY-FRIENDLY. DO YOU HAVE ANY ASPIRATIONS TO HAVE YOUR OWN SITCOM?
NB: I've tried. I've actually sold a bunch of shows that haven’t been made. We even shot one pilot. Stand-up is what I do, so a sitcom would be like the cherry on top. I want to make an Everybody Loves Raymond or King of Queens or Seinfeld. I grew up on that stuff. Multi-cam shows with a live audience, like Night Court, are doing well right now, which could help.
BL: TELL READERS ABOUT THE NATELAND PODCAST YOU HOST WITH AARON WEBBER, BRIAN BATES, AND DUSTY SLAY.
NB: It started because of the pandemic, and I was not touring and so I did not want to lose being funny. It's like a muscle. If you're not being funny, you can get really sad, and then mentally you're not in the right space. You can’t watch too much news or be overwhelmed, otherwise, your brain can be very negative. We started the podcast to avoid that, and it’s going really really great. Because it’s clean comedy, many families listen together on long drives, and I like providing that. We’ve met some of the kids who listen and that means a lot. It surprised me, that I like doing it so much.
BL: WITH ALL THE TRAVELING REQUIRED IN STAND-UP, HOW DO YOU MANAGE FAMILY TIME WITH YOUR WIFE AND DAUGHTER?
NB: I do a lot on weekends, so we have a bus, and the bus pulls up to the house and we load up. We plan more local trips where they can pop in. They're busy, too. I am gone a lot, and so when I'm home, I'm at home the whole time. My wife and daughter are going to Europe with me. It’s all about balance. I actually just got home from Career Day.
BL: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME, NATE, AND BEST OF LUCK ON YOUR SOLDOUT BRIDGESTONE ARENA EVENT AND THE REST OF YOUR TOUR!

“IT’S REALLY ABOUT BEING AUTHENTICALLY YOURSELF. IT’S THE EASIEST APPROACH TO WRITE AND NO ONE CAN TAKE IT AWAY, BECAUSE IT’S ESSENTIALLY YOU. NO ONE HAS YOUR UNIQUE POINT OF VIEW, YOUR ESSENCE, AND THE WAY YOU TELL THEM IS WHAT MAKES THE JOKES WORK.”
- NATE BARGATZE
Overlooking a wide expanse of water, one of the most sought-after addresses in Crane Hill, Serenity Pointe is a destination within a destination. Positioned on 60-acres along Smith Lake, this luxurious new community provides a mix of beautifully designed homes nestled amongst premier amenities.
Gigantic tiles, water rooms, master tubs -- these features are extremely desirable by homeowners right now, reveals Dustin Carpenter, showroom manager for the Bath and Kitchen Idea Center by Winsupply of Franklin.
"Expanding bathrooms into multifunctioning water rooms is very popular because more people want spa-like experiences at home. We're installing gigantic showers with his/her sections, master tubs, steam, rain features, multiple shower heads and handheld heads to help with children, dogs and overall cleaning," Dustin explains.
"Huge, bold tiles measuring up to 4 feet by 4 feet also are the rage," he adds.
He says as more houses have become bigger over the last two years, homeowners want more usable space. "And because we're all spending so much time at home, we'd like to have more ways to relax and be calm."
Winsupply Inc. works directly with DYI homeowners, as well as contractors, builders, plumbers and remodeling project managers, to secure proper supplies.
For installations, Dustin says they can recommend contractors for those who don't already have them. "As a full-concierge service company, we're happy to inform customers, share tips, provide options and suggest contractors matched by skills sets, personalities and preferences."
While Winsupply team members are up-to-speed regarding interior design trends, Dustin says whatever's ergonomically correct for each person's life and circumstances is the best way to go with projects.
Winsupply Showroom Hours: Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Dustin suggests scheduling an appointment, so 30 to 90 minutes can be set aside by a Winsupply consultant, depending on the size of the project. The showroom is located at 100 Southeast Parkway.
"For remodeling projects, bring measurements and photos of the existing space. If it's for a new build, bring blueprints or the desired layout. Our consultants then will be able to guide product selections that will work best in the space to create dream bathrooms or kitchens," Dustin adds.
He says intent and knowing precisely how spaces are going to be used is an essential decision point for identifying the best, most relevant products and systems. He asks, "For example, are you trying to create an 'aging in place' bathroom for an in-law suite, or are you looking for a spa experience with an open concept bathroom?"
Lastly, Dustin says they don't mind at all if customers share inspiration from Pinterest boards, photos, blogs or magazine articles of spaces. "We're enthused about trying to match overall purposes and design preferences with the latest styles and trends from leading manufacturers."

Like so many others, Turner Binkley has fond childhood memories of tagging along with his father to the office. He would borrow colorful markers to create his own “renderings” while his dad, Ed Binkley, worked on a variety of new projects.
“My dad is a very talented architect,” says Binkley. “He was, and still is, a rockstar to me. When I was in fourth grade, he won a design competition for Habitat for Humanity and appeared on CBS This Morning with Bob Vila. I remember the teacher stopping class so we could watch him on TV.
“He’s done some big projects for Darden restaurants and designed homes for high-profile clients like Barry Bonds and Tiger Woods. Whenever there was a new restaurant opening or a big star was building a new house, he was the guy who made it come to life.”
Born in Nashville, Turner’s family moved to the Orlando area when he was three so that Ed could start a new job with a major national firm. His formative years coincided with the proliferation of computers at home and at school. “By the time I was in seventh grade, we were no longer learning to write in cursive; we were learning to work on computers,” he says.
Binkley entered the architectural arena at the age of 14 when his dad placed him under the supervision of a colleague. Despite his lack of experience, or maybe because of it, he was among the first in the firm to apply computer-aided design technology to a centuries-old craft.
“A new software application was introduced around 2005 and the firm tasked my father and myself with testing it to determine if it had any merit in the industry,” he says. “I took it home, and it was like a light switch was turned on. It started with shapes, then evolved into posting renderings on Instagram. It could make designs look like they were alive.”
The software was SketchUp, which now is as essential to the modern architect as drafting boards were to previous generations. But the old guys at the firm were not quick to embrace the new fad.
“There’s a saying that architecture is an old man’s game, and a lot of firms still struggle with {software} because of that,” says Binkley. “I was told it didn’t have a place in architecture, but I kept using it. Now it’s standard within the industry for 3D design and modeling.”
Binkley was so far ahead of the curve that his college architecture courses were behind it. Instructors would call on him for assistance. So with a large and lucrative professional portfolio already in hand, he made the decision to leave school. To be clear, Binkley is not an architect, because he lacks a formal degree. Rather, he likens himself to an athlete that left college early to turn pro.
“I got drafted as a sophomore into the big leagues,” he says. “Early on I met with big builders and high-profile developers and learned how numbers and design correlate with each other. It was a crash course in development.”
“Early on I met with big builders and high-profile developers and learned how numbers and design correlate with each other. It was a crash course in development.” — Turner Binkley
That led to stints with a variety of well-known firms and architects here and in Florida. By the time he was 21, he had worked with the developer and owner on the initial designs for what is now Harpeth Square in historic downtown Franklin. Binkley began working on that project, “when it was just a blank piece of land.”
“I am blessed to work with some notables such as Mark Mitchell at BSB Design, Greg Gamble of Gamble Design Collaborative, and Mike Hathaway of 906 Studio Architects, just to name a few,” says Binkley. “My point is not to drop names, but to point out that I’ve had some really good mentors. I embraced the traditional approach to learning architecture by apprenticeship under some very talented architects and designers.”
In 2019, he opened Binkley Designed, his first foray into running his own design firm. He’s teamed with Steven Edwards to create a small but powerful company that’s driven not by men in their 50s, but a group of “young guns” in their mid-30s with young families. They’ve designed hundreds of homes in developments like Troubadour, Oman, Governors Club, Kings Chapel, The Mill at Bond
Springs, The Grove, and Natures Landing. They’ve even done in-fills in Nashville and historic remodels in Franklin.
“While the majority of our designs reflect more contemporary and modern elements, we have worked on a wide range of styles that have been developed throughout our projects. Whether it’s a modern infill, or a historic remodel, our focus is on designing projects that will withstand the test of time, not just what is popular at the moment.
“We know what’s going on trend-wise throughout the country,” continues Binkley. “Architects are typically two years behind what we’re doing now. Steven is super talented and understands construction. I work on the creative side. We listen to the client and take notes so that we understand their thoughts and emotions and how that relates to their individual lifestyle.”
From there, it goes on paper, into the computer and is brought to life as they partner with many of the area’s leading builders. “We’re not out to conquer the world and that’s by design,” says Binkley. “We like operating from behind the curtain.”
Like father, like son.

A rapidly changing section of Music City, East Nashville may be recognized for its "hipster" vibes, ample new restaurants, and quaint aesthetic for those just passing through. But if you look a little further you’ll see something truly special — a neighborhood bonded by uniting time and time again to face tragedy and support each other.
East Nashville has many parts to its whole: with Historic Edgefield, Lockeland Springs, East End, and Greater East Nashville (including Highland Heights, Cleveland Park, McFerrin Park and Inglewood).
East Nashville is no stranger to tragedy. The Great Fire of 1916 destroyed over 500 houses and left over 2,500 people homeless. In 1933, a tornado made a rampage through town, tearing through three miles of homes, churches, schools, and stores. And sadly, that wasn’t the end of tornadoes for the neighborhood, as 1998 and 2020 also saw significant damage and loss of life.
Needless to say, the neighborhood has bonded and rebuilt despite getting knocked down more than once. There’s so much to explore about the East side of town, let’s start scratching the surface with a few local favorites, old and new.
Even better than visiting for the day? Take a little staycation and fully immerse yourself in all things East Nashville.
New in town, Waymore's Guest House & Casual Club is a petfriendly 93-room boutique hotel located in the former Field House Jones building which was damaged in the 2020 tornado. Here, find fifteen stylish suite offerings alongside a slew of bunk rooms — all with floor-to-ceiling windows, walk-in showers, and
workspace with complimentary high-speed internet. There’s a ground-floor bar, cafe, restaurant, and retail plus a rooftop bar with views of the Nashville skyline. “Obscure and inventive, Waymore’s Guest House and Casual Club is an inviting space for all that will tie our love for hospitality with the principal culture of East Nashville,” said Waymore’s General Manager, Ousmane Diop. “Our primary goal is to embrace the history of what this neighborhood has represented for decades, while providing a home away from home for locals and out-of-towners alike to relax, gather and collaborate.”
An extremely quirky overnight option in East Nashville is the 20+ room Dive Motel & Swim Club, the newest brainchild from the minds behind Urban Cowboy, who design, own, and operate multifaceted hospitality brands in Brooklyn and Music City. The Dive is a hybrid motel, swim club, and dive bar. The renovation pulls out all the stops, a fun modern day interpretation of the rundown 1956 Key Motor Inn decked out in vintage 70’s wallpaper and throwback wood paneling. Find "Dive Radio" in rooms with 4 channels: sex, drugs, rock n roll, and sleep.
Ever wanted to sleep inside a 115-year-old historic church?
Enter The Russell , an all-brick stunner built in 1904 that’s survived its share of poverty, illness, and natural disaster — but also has seen the East Nashville community rally and rebuild in the midst of hardship. With just 23 rooms unlike any other in a town popping with new hotel options, The Russell’s owners kept many of the church’s original features like stained glass windows, original brick walls, pews reimagined as headboards, and more. Most importantly, The Russell uses a portion of every night’s stay to support local homeless ministries. An average stay at the Russell provides 16 beds and warm meals at a local homeless shelter.
Lucky for East Nashvillians, the neighborhood has some of the best bars in the country, literally. Four top haunts for alcoholic beverages on the East side are Attaboy, Chopper Tiki , The Fox , and Pearl Diver. For beer aficionados, check out Southern Grist , Smith & Lentz (the pizza!), and Living Waters Brewing . For caffeine stimulation, East Nashville has a wide array of options. Retrograde , Elegy, Slow Hand , Flora & Fauna , Barista Parlor, and Bongo East are just a few.
East Nashville is one of the best districts in the city for dining out, and that’s not a new trait. From the original location of Prince’s (now flocked south) to still-standing Bolton’s Spicy Chicken & Fish to newer staples like Sean Brock’s stunning flagship restaurants, Audrey and June , these dining destinations have helped put Music City on the culinary map, worldwide. In the morning hours, locals have long gathered at Nashville Biscuit House for classic breakfasts, while those in search of breakfast tacos (and a stellar burger) find happiness at Redheaded Stranger. Find Tex-Czech kolaches at strip-mall spot Yeast Nashville or hip (and tasty) cookies at HiFi Cookies . Only open on Friday through Sunday from 9am to 2pm, Shugga Hi Cafe is a black-owned, women-owned restaurant serving up homestyle vibes and comfort food (think juicy chicken and waffles alongside a standout Sunday brunch buffet) with unmatched Southern hospitality. Meanwhile, a few of my favorite spots for dinner: Butcher & Bee , Pelican & Pig , Xiao Bao, Peninsula , and the Maiz de la Vida truck at Chopper Tiki. Late night prowlers love long-time watering hole Dino's for a proper diner burger.
Music, of course, might be top of mind when exploring any part of Nashville. Longstanding local destination The Basement East is yet another shining example of strength and rebuilding — its iconic “I believe in Nashville” mural damaged from the tornado is top of mine for many remembering the storms of 2020. You can also catch a show at the 5 Spot or Jane’s Hideaway — which recently relocated to the East Side. There are also several local parks and a great Farmers Market, plus arcade/bar options for gamers.
Those looking for small boutique shopping will find plenty in East Nashville. Apple and Oak , the East Nashville Crystal Store , and Nelson’s Drum Shop offer a little something for everyone looking for a unique find or even a Nashville souvenir for a visiting friend. Abode Mercantile , Jerry's Artarama , Tabla Rosa Toys , Bookshop, Welcome Home , and Gift Horse are a few other local favorites, ripe for exploring.

Innovative landscape thinking and craftsmanship, meshed with quality customer service, is the promise of the Willow Branch Landscapes' team. Russell Marino Jr., Willow Branch owner and president, says they've already been busy this spring executing creative approaches in home landscaping and outdoor living.
"We design projects that capture each of our customers' personalities, while complimenting the interior design, exterior style and overall character of homes as well as their neighborhood settings. We create beautiful, inviting and functional outdoor living areas," Russell says.
Willow Branch Landscapes is a full-service design and landscape construction company serving Brentwood and Middle Tennessee, confirms Russell. Since the business was founded more than a decade ago, he says they've shared tips with customers based on their continuing education and love for the outdoors.
The company presently handles a robust spectrum of landscape, outdoor living, irrigation and lighting projects.
Aaron Gunter, Willow Branch chief operating officer, says they've currently noticed the following handful of trends in outdoor living and landscape designs within requests from their clients:
1. More classic landscapes, intentionally done in green and white colors via plants and florals. "Clients recently are preferring clean, fresh looks."
2. Low maintenance landscaping that still yields contemporary, simplistic clean lines, paired with earthy tones in the hardscape elements.
3. Particularly with new construction, custom landscapes that match well with the elevations of houses. "New build sites are blank canvases, and we have a full design department with specialists who can provide 3D renderings and other unique styles that benefit each client."
4. In hardscaping, such as for pavers and patios, really large stones are popular. "Custom bluestones or flagstones as big as 3-by-5 feet are being requested and applied."
5. Likely to be a shift away from the type of landscaping plants that got flash-frozen in December 2022's frigid winter storm to more hardy plant and tree selections. "We've never seen anything in our market before like what happened right before Christmas, when the temperature suddenly dropped from the low 50s to subzero temps, all within 8 to 10 hours. Many established landscapes got burned back and died. I think the damaging results of that particular storm weather will have impacts on how we design landscapes this year and what clients will want to have."
Aaron says more than 80% of the vegetation, trees, shrubs and plants they incorporate into their designs is grown and sourced from regional nurseries. "We're fortunate that our area has so many great nurseries," he adds, given that climate and soil conditions typically combine to offer near-perfect growing environments in neighboring Tennessee counties.
This landscape company also gives back to local communities in a variety of ways. For the second year in a row, the Willow Branch Landscaping team designed and installed the landscaping for the "I Am Home" giveaway/raffle house built and donated by Willow Branch Homes. Proceeds from the tickets sold for chances to win this beautiful home in the Canterbury community of Thompsons Station benefit Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. The winner of the house is scheduled to be announced on April 14.
Last year's ticket sales for this generous fundraiser raised more than $650,000.
Additionally, the Willow Branch Landscapes' team is donating the landscaping to the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway, a community service project to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. That house, built by Signature Homes in College Grove, will be given away on June 25. This is the 19th Annual St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway in Nashville.

It’s always magical to spend a night sleeping under the stars. In decades past, adventure seekers have packed the SUV or camper with tents and gear for ‘roughin’ it’ in the great outdoors. But the swanky and exploding category of luxury outdoor hotel is something to investigate for an unforgettable, next-level experience.
For those who prefer glamping rather than pitching their own tent fireside, here are a few options that incorporate sweeping views and a unique opportunity for travelers to be more authentically embedded in the landscape of the place they’re visiting. These resorts have bucket list-worthy rooms that capture the best of both the luxury resort experience and the outdoors.
Whether you crave the dry heat of the remote Utah desert or the luminous beauty of the Northern Lights, we’ve curated a short list of some places you *must* check out.
These arctic igloos make Urho Kekkonen National Park look like a dreamy winter wonderland. Snuggle up inside the glassroofed globe and watch the dancing northern lights overhead. Get immersed in the world of northern lights, midnight sun and other miracles of this world-renowned arctic resort. Just bundle up before stepping outside – temperatures can drop to -22 degrees!
This jungle hideaway is so out there, you have to whitewater raft down a river or ride a gondola to get there. A network of hanging bridges connect the villas, which have thatched roofs, plantation teak wood floors, rattan furniture and private plunge pools. In the evening, zip 400 feet down a cable for a meal at the Nest, a platform at the top of a ceiba tree, then take a night-time stroll along romantic pathways lit by candles and lanterns.
In southern Utah, Amangiri is a five star resort perfect for an adventurous weekend in the desert. However, it is the simple rooms built to emphasize the beauty of Canyon Point that truly make it an incredible place to stay. Each suite has an outdoor lounge and fireplace with private pools or rooftop terraces available too. Don’t miss a dip in the ‘gram-worthy pool, which wraps around the landscape’s curved dunes and arid plateaus.
