January carries a certain clarity. I have always felt that a new year is less about reinvention and more about recognition. It's a moment to pause and acknowledge who we are now and who we are becoming.

I love seeking meaning in things, so I looked into the symbolism of stepping into 2026. In numerology, the number six represents harmony and balance. The number two is tied to connection and purpose. Together, they remind us that a meaningful life is built in the in-between spaces. The small choices. The daily rituals. The moments we decide to show up for ourselves.

We are honored to open the year with Brooke Burke on our cover. Personally, I will always cherish our Zoom interview, with Brooke on video from her neighbor’s treehouse. I grew up with her workout DVDs, and talking with her now was a reminder that evolution is a privilege. We do not have to chase a past version of ourselves. We can honor who we are today.

This issue reflects that spirit. It's filled with stories, insights and fresh thinking designed to support your year ahead. Every year seems to move faster, and while I wish I could press pause, I am thankful for the chance to begin another chapter with you.

For many women, Brooke Burke was not simply the woman we watched. She was the woman we grew up with. She was the face on our fitness DVDs, the voice in our living rooms, the woman so many of us admired long before wellness became an industry. And now, years later, Brooke is offering something far more meaningful than workouts. She is offering connection, community, and a genuine chance to come back home to yourself.

Talking to Brooke feels familiar. She is still radiant and warm, but also grounded, intentional, and deeply self-aware. The titles we used to give her do not fully fit anymore. She has grown past them.

“I feel like I am every woman. I evolve and change every season, and I am different today than I was last year,” she reflects.

And she means it.

Reinvention, for Brooke, is not a brand. It’s a life practice. A muscle she has strengthened through divorce, motherhood, blended family dynamics, career pivots, cancer survival, and the quiet internal work of softening when the world expected her to be steel.

This is the Brooke Burke we meet now; a guide, a teacher, a woman who continues to become.

Here, she opens up with candor, humor, vulnerability, and wisdom in a conversation that feels like catching up with someone we have known forever.

WHAT IS THE TITLE THAT FEELS MOST TRUE TO YOU TODAY? I am the sum of a lot of different stories. Every chapter of my life forces a reinvention, and I am constantly reintroducing myself to myself.

WHAT IS ONE DAILY RITUAL THAT YOU SWEAR BY?

I start every morning with lemon water. The whole lemon. Skin, seeds, pulp, everything. People tease me and call me the lemon lady, but everything we need is in the skin. Antioxidants, gut health, detox. And when I do that one intentional thing, the tone of my entire day shifts.

On the night Thomas Detry won the WM Phoenix Open, he celebrated with takeout and his family.

“We put the girls to bed, ordered PF Chang’s, and when the delivery guy knocked he looked at me and said, ‘Wait, you won the tournament, right?’ I said, ‘Yeah, that’s me.’ People think it is all glamorous. That night was kids, milk, takeout and a trophy on the counter.”

It was a very on-brand ending for a week that felt bigger than golf but deeply anchored in family, routine and a quiet kind of discipline.

Detry, 32, is the reigning champion of the WM Phoenix Open, the Belgian who walked into the loudest tournament on earth and turned the chaos into a personal breakthrough. His 2025 win made him the first Belgian-born player ever to win on the PGA Tour and only the third European to win in the history of the event. Overnight he jumped inside the top 20 in the world, secured spots in the majors and, in his words, made life “slightly easier” from a scheduling standpoint.

But in the moment, walking up the 18th fairway with a six-shot lead, he barely let himself think about any of it.

“I was so in the zone that not many things went through my mind. My caddie actually tapped me on the back on 16 and told me to enjoy it.

Leading by six in a tournament like that is not something I will experience many times in my life.” > CONTINUED

“IF SOMEONE TELLS YOU THEY NEVER GET NERVOUS, THEY’RE LYING. THE KEY IS HOW YOU DEAL WITH IT. THIS YEAR’S GOAL? PLAY AS WELL AS I CAN AND GO FOR A SECOND WIN.” In case you’re living under a rock, we all know that Open week at TPC Scottsdale is unlike any other golf tournament. From practice rounds to Sunday’s final putt, the Waste Management Phoenix Open is part golf, part festival, part controlled riot. Detry calls it “nonstop craziness” in the best possible way.

“Everyone is there to party, but when you hit a great shot they have no choice but to support you. On 16 I played really well all four days. When you see the whole place erupt for a good shot, you feel like you’re contributing to the atmosphere.”

His favorite test was not the stadium par 3, but the 11th hole, a par 4 that hugs water and desert.

“Eleven requires the perfect tee shot. You can hit it right in the desert in a bush, left into the water, blocked behind a tree. You’re making double at best. On Sunday I knew it was a key moment. I birdied it with a tough pin, and that really helped the next few holes.”

What makes the story even better is that he almost skipped the week entirely.

The tournament before Phoenix was at Pebble Beach. Detry had started the year well with a fifth-place finish in Hawaii and felt taxed by the early stretch.

“I was sitting at Pebble thinking I was exhausted. We actually discussed not playing Phoenix and taking the week off. However, we decided to go and take it easy. No practice Monday. Almost nothing Tuesday.

I played the pro-am Wednesday, felt good over the ball, and the rest is history. That is golf. You can plan everything and not perform, then show up tired and have the week of your life.”

That “week of his life” echoed all the way home. Golf is not a mainstream sport in Belgium, so Detry had no sense of the impact until the next morning.

“We live so far away from home that we didn’t realize what we had done. I woke up to messages saying I was on the front page of the main newspapers. It was the first time a golfer was on the front page. That is when it hit me.”

He is proudest of what the win means for Belgian golf.

“I feel like I have written a little piece of Belgian history. To represent the Belgian flag across the pond and win there for the first time… it’s pretty special.”

Detry’s life, though, is hardly rooted in one place. His wife, Sarah, is British. They spend time in London. Most of the year is in the United States chasing the PGA Tour. Winters, when the schedule eases, are for Dubai, where he answered our Zoom interview with his two young daughters, ages three and two, just a room away.

“We have a crazy life. In season, we are traveling every week.

Dubai is where I can sleep in the same bed, work out every day, eat healthy, and practice every afternoon. October to early January is like my reset before we go to the West Coast and start again.”

That reset matters, especially after a year like 2025. For all the doors the Phoenix win opened, Detry is candid that the season did not snowball into the fairy tale some might expect.

“I was hoping the win would open the floodgates, that I would turn into one of those stories where someone almost loses their card and then wins a major. You see guys like that. I maybe put too much pressure on myself, thinking that because I won a big event, I should contend every week. I just missed the Tour Championship. I was in the conversation for the Ryder Cup and didn’t qualify. There were disappointments. But if you told me at the start of the year that I’d finish top 50 in the FedEx Cup and win one of the biggest events, I would have signed straight away.”

He is equally honest about the mental toll.

“It is just us, our caddie and a ball that doesn’t move. Millions of people watching, judging, saying ‘he hasn’t done well since.’

There are critics, there is support, there is everything. It is on us to navigate that jungle as best we can. I think I am doing pretty well with it, but it is a tough sport.”

One of the tools that steadies him now is something he discovered the Sunday morning of his win: the cold plunge.

“I did not sleep well the night before. Five-shot lead, trying to win my first tournament, I was nervous. Usually I do an ice bath after rounds to recover, but that morning I did one first thing. Five or six minutes. When I came out of it I felt strange but better, calmer. Since then I do it pretty much every morning during tournament weeks.”

That morning, he birdied the first hole and rode the momentum all the way to the trophy.

“If someone tells you they never get nervous, they are lying. The key is how you deal with it.”

On the technical side, his answer to what is in his bag is simple.

“Driver and putter. When those two are cooperating, I am dangerous. Iron play can be okay and you can still get around. But when the driver and putter are performing, it is usually a great week.”

Beyond the numbers, the images that mean the most are still the ones on the 18th green, his wife and daughters running out to meet him.

“Those pictures are all over our house. I look at those photos often and remind myself of how good it felt.”

Detry is fluent in four languages, a field-hockey-playing, tennis-loving kid from Belgium who discovered he was simply better at golf. He starred for the University of Illinois, where coach Mike Small helped sharpen his competitive edge and mental game, then turned pro with a self-imposed three-year deadline to “make something happen or do something else.” He made something happen.

His style on the greens reflects who he is.

“I would say freestyle. I am a feel player. As soon as I get too technical, it goes wrong. When I tried the super-structured green reading, it was not my vibe.”

Now he is preparing to return to Scottsdale as the defending champion, his first time ever in that role.

“I’m excited. There will be more media, more expectations. It will be on me to pace myself, stay focused and just play. The goal is simple.

Play as well as I can and give myself a chance to go for a second win.”

Only one player has won the WM Phoenix Open back to back in recent history. Hideki Matsuyama did it in 2016 and 2017. Detry laughs remembering a recent Sunday round with him in Korea.

“I asked if he was playing Phoenix,” Detry says. “He said yes, of course. Then he goes, ‘I won it twice.’ He had almost forgotten he won it two years in a row.”

His dream foursome?

Roger Federer and Tiger Woods.

“Roger has started playing golf lately and I heard he’s pretty keen. Tiger… I’ve been a fan of his ever since I was born. I’ve never played with him, but he’s always been one of my idols. For a fourth spot? Probably a good friend.”

A starstuck memory from WMPO 2025?

“Meeting Michael Phelps. I’ve always been a huge fan.”

He also ran into Niall Horan from One Direction after the tournament.

“He gave me a big hug and said, ‘That was so cool.’”

Detry has not forgotten anything about his week in the desert, and neither have the fans who stayed up until the early hours of the morning to watch history. In a sport where nothing is guaranteed, his outlook is simple.

“There is no script for any of this. Phoenix happened so organically. All I can do is keep working, keep getting better, and hope I get to relive moments like that again.”

WMPO Player to Watch: Joel Dahmen According to the TOUR, he’s a name worth watching; a player whose grit and undeniably elite ball striking make him a compelling story heading into WMPO 2026.

Here, Joel Dahmen opens up on pressure, perspective, and the moments that have shaped his game.

What’s the most memorable moment of your career so far?

I think I’d be lying if I didn’t say my win at Corales. You just try so hard to be on top and it never happens, so when the one actually does, you enjoy it.

What’s one part of your game you’re most proud of right now?

I’d say my ball striking stats are pretty good, and no matter how you slice it, it puts me up there with the best in the world. I’m always trying to sharpen my putting, however, but the chipping is something that has me really excited. I have learned a lot about how my body moves, and what that does to change my chipping action.

What’s your go-to pre-round ritual?

As I age, the stretching and mobility part of my routine has become a can’t miss.

What would surprise people about you off the course?

I’m not as fun as they think I am. I like to be lazy and read up on history and anything that takes my mind to a different place.

What are you most looking forward to at this year’s WMPO? The vibe is unbeatable. Hopefully, with all the TOUR changes, just getting in the event can be something I look forward to. Really though, just seeing what the Thunderbirds do for the community is so great. They put so much effort into one week. It’s a party for sure, but for a good cause.

What’s one mindset shift that changed your performance?

It’s just golf. Yes, it’s important, but there are kids out there fighting cancer and it makes a golf shot seem so irrelevant. I have a family that takes much of my mind, and caring about them has made me a better man and golfer.

What’s your “shot you’ll never forget?“ One of the most recent is basically the two putts to keep my card last year. People were all talking about it, so it’s probably the most pressure I’ve ever had, and I performed under the gun.

“

Easily my hybrid that I bought off eBay. It’s a PING Anser that’s probably 10 years old, but it’s reliable.

This might be a weird answer, but I love Ben Rector. I don’t need to be pumped up for a whole lot these days, so Jock Jams volume 77 (probably by now) isn’t really needed. More of a get-in-the-mindset pump up is what I go for.

In that moment, Larry felt purpose grab him by the shoulders. What began as a job transformed into a calling. The kettlebells, burpees, boxing, music, sweat, and raw energy... it all lit something inside him.

“Every session became a celebration of strength, resilience, and growth,” he says.

That fire hasn’t dimmed once.

Larry grew up in Toledo chasing the shadow of Michael Jordan; not with formal trainers or elite programs, but with the grit of a kid who wanted greatness badly enough to create it himself.

He knocked on neighbors’ doors asking to use their hoops. He mimicked MJ’s footwork, studied his mechanics, and outworked every other kid on the block despite being the shortest one in the neighborhood.

“I didn’t know I was training. I was just completely immersed in what I loved.”

That mindset carried him to college basketball and eventually eight seasons playing professionally. What he lacked in representation, he made up for with relentless self-coaching; a trait he now instills in every athlete who trains with him.

Larry’s leap into training pros began not in a gym, but at Scottsdale Fashion Square when he ran into Phoenix Suns guard Eric Bledsoe.

He introduced himself. He offered boxing training.

Bledsoe said yes.

That summer changed the trajectory of Larry’s life. They built a hybrid program: strength, conditioning, explosive footwork, and Larry’s signature boxing system. Bledsoe reported to training camp in the best shape of his career, and ESPN took notice.

“That article launched everything. It solidified my belief in innovative training and the importance of trust between athlete and coach.”

From there, the pros kept coming.

These athletes don’t just work; they prepare with a level of discipline and consistency few ever witness. Deebo, for example, starts his day with strength work before seeing Larry for boxing, conditioning, and cross-training… then heads to the field to run routes.

“He inspires other athletes. His preparation is one of a kind. Training a professional athlete is like two warriors uniting to conquer a giant. Iron sharpens iron.

They arrive at a certain level and I bring my absolute best to match it.”

His philosophy is built on a “fourth-quarter, first-quarter” mentality: an athlete should look as strong in the last moments of the game as they did the first.

This is where mental fortitude becomes as crucial as physical ability. Larry trains mindset as much as mechanics: visualization, focus, resilience, strategy.

“Elite performance blends both. They rise together.”

One of the most formative experiences of Larry’s career happened while training Tyson Chandler in Aspen. Chandler brought his Knicks trainer, and the two exposed Larry to a new level of pre-session activation and preparation.

“It was transformative. It deepened my understanding of what elevates performance and shaped the way I coach forever.”

Larry trains clients ages 8 to 88 with the same energy he brings to a pro athlete.

“Because we are all athletes,” he says.

“Just in different seasons of life.”

Justin Whalen didn’t become involved with D1 Training as an entrepreneur looking for a concept. He became involved as a dad. Years ago, when his daughter’s volleyball coach suggested supplemental strength and agility work, he brought her to D1 Scottsdale. The moment they walked through the doors, something clicked.

“I thought, what would I have done athletically if I had something like this growing up.”

Justin played Division I baseball at the University of Portland and spent his childhood imagining a professional career. But the kind of structured strength training, speed work, and science-backed programming that kids have access to today simply didn’t exist. Watching his daughter thrive in that environment was transformative. He saw what D1 could unlock for athletes, and eventually, for adults as well.

That experience grew into a calling, and today he owns D1 Training Arcadia, part of a national network of more than 90 locations facilitating more than a million athlete workouts each year.

D1’s philosophy is rooted in athletic development rather than aesthetics.

The structure mirrors the cadence used inside collegiate strength programs, which is why D1 hired a national panel of strength coaches to build their methodology. Every workout is programmed on a macro, meso, and micro cycle and every phase has intention behind it.

According to Justin, youth training is one of the most misunderstood aspects of performance development. Many parents still fear weightlifting or worry about growth plates, but Justin stresses that D1’s age-based system is intentionally built around safety, science, and appropriate progression.

Rookies ages seven to eleven focus on the fundamentals: movement patterns, coordination, body control, and speed. Devos ages twelve to fourteen introduce light resistance with a strict form-first approach as their bodies adapt and grow. Once athletes enter the Prep program at fifteen to eighteen, they transition into true strength training with appropriate load, technique, and supervision. Justin emphasizes that the Prep structure intentionally mirrors what athletes would experience in a collegiate Division I program.

This tiered model aligns with National Strength and Conditioning Association guidelines, which show that properly supervised youth strength training is not only safe but enhances bone density, neuromuscular control, injury resilience, and long-term athletic development.

“Every phase is grounded in science-backed training methodology, supported by D1’s extensive database of athletes across all levels, from youth to pros. We teach fitness for life without overly stressing the body.”

Before strength becomes a priority, Justin says the emphasis should be on speed, agility, and nutrition, the foundations that build athletic capacity long before weights enter the picture. And beyond performance, he believes the single most important skill for youth athletes is time management.

“Balancing school, sports, family, and life is what prepares them for future success.”

On the adult side, the transformations Justin sees inside D1 are not just physical but deeply emotional. Men in their forties and fifties learn to train smarter rather than heavier. Women over thirty-five discover programming

After age thirty, women lose up to 8% of muscle mass per decade, a decline that directly affects metabolism, insulin sensitivity, joint support, and hormone regulation. The greatest behind-the-scenes evolution was our bold transition to the ‘No Reserve’ auction format in 2005. It was a risk that fundamentally redefined our business, creating a level of excitement and transparency that reaffirmed who we are and positioned us as a global leader in the industry.

WHAT DOES THAT GLOBAL REACH FEEL LIKE?

The vast reach we have today, bringing the auction into millions of homes, truly underscores how the love for collector cars transcends borders and demographics. It’s an organic, global community, something we always envisioned when we first decided to put the auctions on live television back in the ‘90s.

There have been many incredible TV moments over the years, so it’s very difficult to choose one. The sale of Carroll Shelby’s personal 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Super Snake for $5.5 million- three timeswas an incredible moment as was having Carroll Shelby join me on the block when bidders went head-to-head, captivating the arena with incredible energy.

Also, our commitment to philanthropy is a major point of pride, having raised over $164 million for various causes through our charity cars. Having former U.S. President, George W. Bush on the block for a charity sale was a deeply significant moment that I will never forget.

WHAT ELEMENTS WERE MOST CRITICAL IN CREATING THAT “LIVE ADRENALINE” EXPERIENCE?

Building that live adrenaline experience on TV was all about capturing the emotional arc of the auction block. The critical elements were speed, energy, and storytelling. We needed to present the action so quickly, with so much happening at once; the auctioneer’s chant, the bids flying in, the intense reactions of the bidders; that it felt like a sport, a head-tohead competition right up until the final hammer. That, combined with putting a camera on the vehicles themselves as they crossed the block, let viewers feel like they were right there in the arena.

Producers have to determine the right mix of auction block coverage and other content, such as behind-the-scenes stories, to keep viewers engaged during varying speeds of bidding. Early on, we faced significant technical challenges in adapting traditional TV production to the unpredictable nature of live auctions, particularly in managing real-time data and graphics for displaying bids and vehicle information to a remote audience.

HOW HAS LIVE TELEVISION SHAPED THE COLLECTOR-CAR HOBBY ITSELF?

It changed the world of car collecting forever by pulling back the curtain on the auction process and bringing the excitement of ‘the block’ directly into living rooms across the globe.

been monumental. Television has demystified the hobby for millions, creating transparency and building an enormous, engaged audience that wasn’t previously involved. We’ve certainly seen direct shifts: people watching from home learn the nuances of the market in real-time.

This exposure fuels demand, educates bidders, and creates a significant cultural momentum around collector cars that simply didn’t exist before we broadcast the auctions live. It’s a key reason for the hobby’s explosive growth.

AFTER 30 YEARS, IS THERE A BIDDER STORY, SELLER MOMENT, OR CAR CROSSING THE BLOCK THAT BECAME AN UNEXPECTED “TELEVISION MOMENT?”

In 2013, the original Batmobile from the 1960s TV series, a custom-built masterpiece by George Barris, crossed the block. The anticipation was electric, the crowd was buzzing, and the energy in the arena was unlike anything I’d felt before.

They aren’t just looking at the aesthetics; they’re passionate about the performance, the ‘Resto-Mods’, and the engineering. We made the decision to bring in more modern and unique vehicles, like a record-setting Toyota Supra from the Fast & Furious movie, to engage a younger demographic, particularly Millennials and Gen Z enthusiasts, and their enthusiasm has been incredible. We also recently collaborated with popular YouTuber and restaurant entrepreneur ‘Stradman’ (James Neese), who showcased several of his supercars at the 2025 Scottsdale Fall Auction.

Studies in psychology agree with her instinct.

At sixteen, life threw another curve... a diagnosis of Crohn’s disease. Pain became a constant, yet she refused to let illness become her identity.

Here are my picks for treatments getting all the buzz in 2026, each rated on how effective they truly are, along with what I recommend when a trend doesn’t quite live up to the hype.

Blepharoplasty (Upper & Lower Eyelid Lift) – 10/10 A well-done eyelid lift is one of the highest-satisfaction procedures in all of aesthetic surgery. It can erase the chronically “tired” look, open the eyes, and make you look rested without making you look “done.”

If you’re not ready for surgery: Medical-grade eye creams and energy-based treatments can help, but nothing non-surgical comes close to the results of a precise blepharoplasty.

Facial Fat Transfer/Autologous Fat Grafting – 9/10

CO₂ Laser Resurfacing – 8/10

Dissolvable Filler Reversal + “Natural Volumization” Protocol – 9/10

CO₂ laser is a workhorse for serious texture issues; etched lines around the mouth, acne scarring, and sun damage that no cream can touch. The trade-off is real downtime, and while results can be impressive, they typically don’t match the depth or longevity of a well-executed phenol–croton oil peel.

For true regeneration (10/10): In my practice, phenol–croton oil peeling remains the gold standard for long-lasting resurfacing, with results that can last a decade or more. CO₂ is excellent, but the peel goes deeper and lasts longer for patients who need a true skin “reset.”

Before you go juicing, here’s what you need to know

Juicing may look like a wellness win, but hormonally and metabolically it works very differently than most people expect. In my practice, patients often feel great with the first sip, then end up hungrier, moodier, or more fatigued as the day goes on. The reason is simple physiology, and here’s what science actually shows.

MYTH: Juicing “resets” metabolism FACT: There is no research demonstrating that juice cleanses, reset or repair metabolic function.

Metabolism is shaped by age, hormones, muscle mass, sleep and overall diet quality. Harvard School of Public Health and National Strength and

Conditioning Association research shows that stable blood sugar, adequate protein and resistance training have far greater metabolic impact than any juice.

MYTH: Juice digests “cleaner” than whole fruits and vegetables FACT: Removing fiber changes the hormonal response entirely. Studies published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition show that fruit juice raises blood sugar significantly faster than whole fruit. Fiber slows digestion, steadies glucose release and supports gut hormones involved in fullness. Without it, the body absorbs natural sugars rapidly, which can worsen cravings, fatigue and insulin resistance.

MYTH: Juicing helps balance hormones, especially during perimenopause and menopause FACT: High sugar juices often make hormonal swings worse. As estrogen decreases in the forties and fifties, fat storage shifts toward the abdomen. Belly fat increases cortisol, which increases insulin resistance. Spiking blood sugar with juice compounds this effect. For many women in midlife, protein and fiber are far more effective for hormone stability than pure juice.

MYTH: Juicing “detoxes” the body FACT: Your liver and kidneys detox continuously without assistance. NIH research clearly shows that these organs metabolize and eliminate toxins around the clock. No juice accelerates this process. Juicing can provide antioxidants, but it does not detoxify the body.

MYTH: All produce is equally healthy when juiced FACT: Some juices rapidly flood the bloodstream with sugar. Pineapple, mango, grapes, and beets create a high glycemic load when juiced, which is important for anyone with insulin resistance, PCOS, thyroid concerns, or perimenopausal weight changes.

People prone to kidney stones should also be cautious with high-oxalate juices such as spinach and Swiss chard. The National Kidney Foundation notes that oxalates are safe for most but can raise stone risk in those predisposed.

MYTH: Bottled juices are just as potent as fresh FACT: Antioxidants degrade quickly.

Many nutrients break down as juice sits on the shelf. Fresh or cold-pressed options maintain more of their original vitamin and phytonutrient content.

MYTH: Juicing is the best way to get nutrients quickly FACT: Blending whole produce may support hormones more effectively.

Smoothies retain fiber and allow for the addition of protein, healthy fats and seeds that stabilize blood sugar. For busy schedules, smoothie ingredients can be prepped and frozen ahead, making them more practical than daily juicing.
