THE PRINT - September 2022

Our community is growing! We now have over six hundred 55 Plus Members. Thank you! New this month we will host a 55 Plus Social Committee meeting to gather our internal volunteers and brainstorm ideas on programs/socials/events/speakers. We want your input on shaping the 55 Plus Program. August had a lot of fun highlights. Our Summer Art Series class experimented with quilling and resin. At our summer social dance, we danced the evening away following a lesson from Lesley in East Coast Swing. Social Dances will return in October but dig out your cowboy boots and jeans because we are going Country with a Line Dance! The 55 Plus Water Workout Class concluded but our enthusiastic instructor Kiana will join us this fall on land to offer 55 Plus Zumba Gold class. Alan Feinberg shared part one of his virtual Historic Los Gatos Tour, don’t miss part two this month. Dean shared his piano skills with us during Name That Tune and members got to sample Moscow Mules at our mocktail bar. Time to bid our FAB summer farewell and prepare for a Festive Fall. This month’s Great Getaway Day Trip is “off to the races” at Golden Gate Fields on Friday September 16. We can’t wait to see your derby fashion!

Grandparents day was conceived in the 1970s by Marian McQuade. (She did not work for Hallmark, as some rumors suggest.) McQuade was a dedicated volunteer and advocate for seniors. She petitioned President Carter to create Grandparents Day to encourage people to visit their grandparents. She hoped the visits would lead to conversations that would provide insight and preserve stories from the past. Will you be seeing your grandkids this month? Ask the 55+ Office for a list of conversation starters to try with your family.

The Answer’s in the Undies

“If your baby is ‘beautiful and perfect, never cries or fusses, sleeps on schedule and burps on demand, an angel all the time,’ you’re the grandma.” — Teresa Bloomingdale Figure It Out, Grandma I didn’t know if my granddaughter had learned her colors yet, so I decided to test her. I would point out something and ask what color it was. She would tell me and was always correct. But it was fun for me, so I continued. At last she headed for the door, saying sagely, “Grandma, I think you should try to figure out some of these yourself!”

When my grandson asked me how old I was, I teasingly replied, “I’m not sure.” “Look in your underwear, Grandma,” he advised. “Mine says I’m four to six.”
