Happy May Members!

In April, our theme was “Celebration of the Arts.” We held Hands on Art every Friday and created Flower Pedal Tea Lights, Pressed Flower Candles, Spring Centerpieces, and Decoupage Pots! Local volunteer group LG Art Docents provided a fabulous card making workshop. Food for Thought had 3 special guests with local Girl Scout Guides presenting and plenty of cookies for sampling. Members took a walking field trip to our neighbors at New Museum Los Gatos to see the ArtNow Exhibit, an annual juried high school exhibition. Kiana instructed two free Chair Zumba classes to get us moving. Member Rosemarie provided an author talk exploring her book, Born Into Chaos. We hosted two uplifting drumming circles with all participants playing along on percussion instruments. Thank you for joining us for April activities and events!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month; we encourage you to try one small change to boost your mood this month. Here are a few tried and true ways: move your body for even just ten minutes a day, get outside for a few minutes of sunshine, listen to upbeat music, socialize by texting/calling/or chatting with a friend at programs, list 3 things you are grateful for, eat a healthy snack, practice deep breathing, and of course join in some of our 55 Plus programs! One way we support this is through our Annual Resource Fair. On Saturday May 17th from 10am-2pm we will host over 40 local service providers and you’ll have a chance at winning plenty of raffle prizes. Did you know that we also now have Healing Hearts, a Grief Support group? Check out the calendar for dates and times. Three members will lead a special guest speaker series this month: Gus speaking about a lighthearted approach to physical and mental challenges with weight loss, Mary discussing anxiety, and Raymond exploring our dreams! Wishing you a very Happy Mother's Day and looking forward to celebrating with you for Mother’s Day High Tea as well, get out your teacups and fancy hats!

Also in May, we teamed up with Local Kitchens for a 55 Plus fundraiser. Local Kitchens hosts menus from several different restaurants and acclaimed chefs under one roof. Visit the Los Gatos location, 681 Blossom Hill Rd, on the dates below and use our special code, 20% will be donated back to the 55 Plus Program! Check out the online menu at bit.ly/LGlocalkitchen.
