AN INTRODUCTION TO THE SPARK DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

OVERVIEW

Welcome to Spark, our newest Talent Development program, for high potential managers.

ABOUT SPARK

Spark is flexible, personalized, and on-demand. All Spark trainings are offered as open-enrollment courses, so you can complete any or all courses based on your learning needs. You must complete 7 of 10 courses to obtain your Spark certificate. Spark offerings are either self-directed e-Learning courses or online instructor-led classroom sessions. This provides a variety of learning opportunities so you can complete trainings that fit your schedule and style! Most courses include supporting materials so you can take notes as you complete the e-Learnings and apply what you’ve learned on-the-job.

SELECT THE RIGHT PATH

There are three tracks of Spark, each with different learning opportunities targeted to the areas you need to grow into your next role. Connections is focused on communication, persuasian and influencing.

Leadership centers around managing others and setting goals. Productivity is abour on time, project and change management. The details of each track are outlined in this document.

CONNECTIONS LEADERSHIP PRODUCTIVITY

Spark Connections introduces you to skills that enhance communication, relationships, influence, and overall business effectiveness. It provides a modular approach to achieving a certificate in communication fundamentals.

Class options include:

• The art of public speaking

• Positive work relationships

• Business Etiquette

• DISC

• Emotional Intelligence

Who is this course for?

• Influencing others

The Spark Connections program is ideal for high potential managers who need to polish their communication or relationship management skills or for those whose next role will require them to take these skills to the next level.

The Spark Leadership program is ideal for high potential managers who need to develop or enhance their people leadership and decision making skills.

There are 86,400 seconds in a day. It’s up to you to decide what to do with them. Spark Productivity introduces you to skills that enhance overall work performance and efficiency. It provides a modular approach to achieving a certificate in work effectiveness. Class options include:

• Creative problem solving

• Everyday negotiations

• Project management fundamentals

• Time management

• Improving processes

• Managing change

• Mastering remote work

• P&L basics

• Personal effectiveness

Who is this course for?

The Spark Productivity program is ideal for high potential managers who need to polish their communication or relationship management skills or for those whose next role will require them to take these skills to the next level.

CHOOSING YOUR PATH - THE COMPETENCY PRIORITY ASSESSMENT

The Spark program is designed to give you the development you need to reach the next level. The right track for you will depend on your current experience/competencies as well as your career aspirations.

To assist you in making the right choice, we’ve created the competency priority assessment. This tool is designed to identify your strengths and opportunity areas. This in turn can help you decide which Spark track is right for you.

Competency Based

The assessment is based on our organizational competencies. Competencies are a collection of behaviors and skills important for success at different levels of the organization. This assessment is a great opportunity to familiarize

Often when thinking about self development, we have a tendency to focus on our opportunities rather than our existing strengths. Research shows that this can be a mistake. Often, our strengths are the things that make us successful and growing/enhancing these can be more advantageous than focusing on our deficiencies.

For example, perhaps you are fantastic with numbers but really not great with presenting. Working on strengthening

and mastering your numerical skill may offer a bigger payback than trying to master presentation skills, particularly if it’s not called for in your current or next role.

The caveat is when an opportunity area becomes a critical flaw. i.e. when your lack of competency in a certain area becomes a barrier to your future success, e.g. if the next step of your career is going to require you to present a lot then this opportunity area becomes critical and something you should work on.

Completing the Competency Priority Assessment

1. The Talent Management & Development team will send you the assessment when you’ve completed your registration

2. Complete the assessment

3. Share it with and discuss with your manager

4. Send through the results to the Talent Management & Development team to be enrolled in Spark.
