Forsythia, a shrub with bright yellow blossoms, marks the “official” start of spring. Its flowers literally light up our gardens as winter fades away. They are rich in flavonoids, especially rutin, which supports circulation, microcirculation, and also has an anti-aging effect on the skin. This makes it a beautiful natural gift to offer mothers on Mother’s Day, right in the heart of spring! The preparation time for this flower oil macerate is 8 weeks – roughly the time between the blooming of forsythia and Mother’s Day.

Materials and ingredients:

Harvesting forsythia flowers is perfect for young children, as many blossoms grow at their height and can be picked very easily. Place the flowers in the baskets and then let them dry. This will take a few days.

Step2:Maceratingtheflowers

Place the dried flowers in a jar without pressing them down and fill it with olive oil or sunflower oil.

Let the jar rest for 4 weeks in daylight but out of direct sun. Shake it from time to time. You can make a little calendar with the children to help them track the passing weeks by checking them off. Then place the open jar for another 4 weeks near a source of warmth (such as by the stove or in the sun).

Step3:Bottlingtheoil

Strain the oil using a skimmer. Pour it into small bottles and create a label for them!
