CPR for Medical Assistants
This course meets the requirements for national certification for CPR from the American Heart Association (AHA). You will learn how to respond to emergencies involving infants, children, and adults. You are introduced to lifesaving techniques, rescue breathing, one- and two-person cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), abdominal thrusts and the Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Clinical Practice: Part 1
This two-part course prepares you for understanding and performing a wide range of clinical procedures by didactic and hands-on methods of teaching. Clinical skills are built on the foundational concepts of infection control and patient safety and include, vital sign taking, phlebotomy and various laboratory techniques and procedures, specimen handling, IV insertion, and electrocardiography and other diagnostic procedures. You are also introduced to the medical assistant role and skills within the areas of practice specialties. Pharmacology is discussed in terms of creating a knowledge base of the most commonly prescribed and used medications, medication list management and patient education about over-the-counter and prescription medication side effects, allergies, and interactions. Prerequisites: MAS01, MAS02, MAS30, MAS31.

Emergency Medical Technicion (EMT) Training
In this comprehensive course, you will develop the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to care for patients at the scene of an accident and while transporting patients by ambulance to the hospital. EMTs have the emergency skills to assess a patient’s condition and manage respiratory, cardiac, and trauma emergencies. They must be certified by the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in NY, part of the NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH).
