Start your career in finance as an accounting assistant. This entry-level job is available in a wide range of industries. In addition to achieving a Lehman certification, students may choose to pursue national certification as a Public Bookkeeper.

This entry-level course describes the concepts and principles of accounting and data accumulation techniques with an emphasis on preparation and interpretation of financial statements. In addition, you will learn to understand how the basic accounting process, sales, purchases, and other transactions are recorded and classified into individual accounts. Areas of concentration include the accounting cycle in service, merchandising and sole proprietorship.

Bookkeeping 2
Companies today ask for financial information that enables them to make informed decisions in a rapidly changing business environment. This course gives you the tools to understand how the accounting process puts all of a company’s financial data into standardized formats that can be used for decision making, analysis and planning. Areas of concentration include current and long-term assets, current and long-term liabilities and statements of cash flow. An introduction to accounting for partnerships and corporations is included. Prerequisites: Bookkeeping I CFM 38 or equivalent education or experience.

QuickBooks
Computer systems enable organizations to systematically identify, acquire, store, analyze, distribute, and reuse information and knowledge to enhance organizational productivity and competitiveness. This hands-on course teaches you how to perform basic accounting procedures using this popular software. This course also covers the role of QuickBooks Accounting and Microsoft Excel in the development and management of record-keeping initiatives. Prerequisites: recent completion of CFM 38, current experience or pre-test.

Introduction to Individual Taxation
This This course introduces you to federal income tax as it relates to individuals. Areas of concentration include income inclusion and exclusion and deductions as they are defined utilizing the Internal Revenue Code and related material. Special classes of taxpayers including partnerships, estates, and trusts are considered as well as accounting and procedural rules. New York State and City taxes are covered.

Payroll Fundamentals
This course is designed for payroll beginners, entry-level payroll professionals, and business owners. Learn how to calculate payroll, compute payroll taxes, payroll methods, and reporting. In addition, a case study provides handson practice evaluating, applying, and developing a payroll strategy for a small business. Students, who successfully complete the Payroll Fundamentals course, may apply and take the NACPB Payroll Certification Exam. (Prerequisites: Bookkeeping I CFM 38 and Introduction to Individual Taxation CFM 46 or knowledge of bookkeeping or accounting.)
