Christy Bolin AgentSpotlight

Christy Bolin's story begins in the small town of Norway, South Carolina, where she grew up on a farm with her older brother, Wesley, and younger sister, Leah. Her father, who worked at the Savannah River Site, would spend his summers planting produce and Christy and her siblings would help out. She grew up picking peanuts, cucumbers, tomatoes, and squash just to name a few. Her mother worked in the district office for the local schools, so Christy was immersed in the community from a young age It wasn't until she attended the University of South Carolina that she realized the educational disparities in her hometown Her deep love for Norway and its schools stayed with her, a sentiment her husband, Davey, often remarks on Christy's children, Henry and Harrison, have also spent many summers in Norway, nurturing the same affection for the area through serving at Three Crosses Outreach and supporting the inaugural Scandinavian Relay.

Christy's educational journey led her to become a pharmacist, graduating from USC in 1996. She has dedicated over 27 years of her life to caring for others through pharmacy. In addition to her successful career in pharmacy, Christy always had a passion for real estate. In 2019, she decided to pursue this interest seriously and joined The Legacy Group SC.

One of Christy's favorite real estate memories is helping a friend sell their beautiful home on Lake Murray in Lexington and find their next home on Lake Hartwell. She loves working with lake properties and homes in quaint small towns. With a huge heart filled with compassion, she finds great joy in helping others find or sell their home.

One of her most fulfilling experiences was selling the home of her best friend and college roommate’s mother. The house was rich with memories of sleepovers and childhood stories. Helping her friend’s mom move closer to her daughter in the Upstate of SC in 2021 was particularly special for Christy.

Christy’s compassion and genuine love for people make her an exceptional real estate agent, and her kindness is a magnet for those around her Christy is a remarkable team member, driven by a genuine passion for helping others that runs deep in her roots, and brings a warm-hearted approach to the real estate industry It is our joy to feature Christy Bolin as our Fall 2024 Agent Spotlight!

DISCOVERING OLD SOUL TREEHOUSE

Escape to Tranquility

Perched in the picturesque landscape of Waterloo, the Old Soul Treehouse is a charming getaway created by Aaron and Kristin Boland Spanning 400 square feet with a ceiling height reaching14feetatitstallestpoint,thisuniquetreehouseisatestamenttotheBolands'visionand dedication The idea for the treehouse was sparked during a visit to their nearby yellow lake house, whereachanceencounterwiththelot'sownersledtoacreativesolutionformaintaining privacy that the area is known for What began as a spontaneous thought during their son's naptimeevolvedintoaremarkableprojectthatopeneditsdoorstoguestsinOctober2023

Creating the Old Soul Treehouse was a labor of love and filled with memorable moments. Kristin and her mother spent many weekends together antique shopping and collecting items that now grace the treehouse. Some of her most prized pieces include a French Provincial king-sized bed that came from Connecticut.

Both Aaron and Kristin are local to the area and added to their team Matt of Treehugger Customs in Greenville. Matt contributed his expertise and incorporated unique elements such as the front door, sourced from Turkey but found in Matt’s warehouse One of the standout features is the set of cast iron stairs from Bob Jones’ private study, dating back to the early 1900s. Those local to the area know that the now existing Bob Jones University is his namesake

The treehouse also boasts unique touches like the butler’s window, inspired by the builder, and a wall of windows that truly brings the outside in Guests have found the treehouse to be a perfect spot for honeymoons, anniversaries, and proposals.

As guests enjoy the tranquil views of the still-active train trestle from the front porch billowing across the quiet lake, they are also sharing in the Bolands’ love for Lake Greenwood a place Aaron has cherished since his childhood days of splashing in those same waters. The Old Soul Treehouse is not just any rental experience It is a serene retreat designed to bring people together, preserving nature and creating lasting memories tucked away in the trees.

From Heritage to Harvest

Theresa Adams, a resident of Lexington, SC, is the heart and soul behind Adams Apple Co., a company that embodies her rich heritage and passion for apple-based products Theresa was born in Maine and raised in Morton, Illinois, the pumpkin capital of the world After her mother passed away and her father retired from the military, much of Theresa's childhood was spent in her grandma's kitchen and at her Aunt Kathie’s family farm, where the tradition of apple butter cooking in a copper kettle was embedded into her memory at a very young age.

The journey of Adams Apple Co. began during Theresa's college years in South Carolina. She began an annual tradition of canning apple butter, when "heartfelt and handmade" was the only option for Christmas gifts for friends and family. After marrying her “Mr. Adams” in October and embarking on a little getaway to the mountains, she brought back apples and the idea for "Adams Apple" was born Over the years, her apple butter, made with a secret recipe, gained a loyal following A pivotal moment came when her youngest son, Avery, needed funds for an ambassador trip. Theresa turned to Facebook to sell her apple butter as a fundraiser, resulting in overwhelming support and a doubling of her production

Since officially starting the business in 2014, Theresa has expanded Adams Apple Co significantly Initially renting a kitchen and working long hours to peel, wash, and cook apples, she later found a copacker in 2015, built a website, and created professional labels Her products, which are now available in at least 40 states, have become staples at farmers' markets and local retailers like Wingard’s Market in Lexington Despite the growth, Theresa remains true to her roots, running the business herself, with family helping seasonally Her favorite product remains the original apple butter, a secret recipe that continues to charm customers nationwide. Celebrating a decade of success, Adams Apple Co. is a testament to Theresa's dedication and the enduring appeal of her apple-infused creations

Cathcart Cattle Co. Cathcart Cattle Co.

NURTURING TRADITON & QUALITY

Cathcart Cattle Co., owned by Jacob and Austin Cathcart, is a burgeoning cattle business rooted in the fertile lands of the Midlands of South Carolina The twin brothers are both graduates of Clemson University in 2020. It was in that same year that the Cathcart brothers embarked on their farming journey soon after finishing their studies The farm currently boasts 26 heifer cows and one bull, with a unique breeding cycle that sees the bull left with the cows for about 60 days, resulting in new calves due precisely when they plan for them. The brothers have ingeniously avoided debt by leasing land from owners with underutilized or unused farmland, ensuring a sustainable and debt-free operation.

Looking ahead, the Cathcarts are considering processing and selling their own meat, although the current high prices of cows at auction present both opportunities and challenges As they navigate the evolving market, their passion for farming and commitment to sustainable practices continue to drive their efforts, with dreams of a thriving cattle business for generations to come.

cathcartcattlecompany@gmail.com

The Cathcarts have a strong commitment to sustainable farming practices They plant sunflowers on some of the leased properties for dove hunting, maintaining a symbiotic relationship with the landowners. The majority of their cows are grass-fed, although separate fields are planted for different crops, and occasionally, the cows are fed grain depending on weather conditions. Despite last year's drought necessitating grain feeding, they aim to raise their cattle on grass as much as possible. Their long-term goal is to expand their herd to 100 cows within five years, with hopes of reaching 50 cows by the end of 2024 Jacob and Austin are driven by a desire to create a lasting legacy for their future children, ensuring that their descendants can farm and carry on the family legacy as they have learned from their own forefathers
