Familyvacationscanbean excellentwayforkidstolearnnew thingsanddevelopnewskillswithoutevenrealizingit.Kidsnaturally learnwhentheyareengagedina funandexcitingway.Ilovetaking mykidstoEscapeRoomstochallengetheirthinkingskillswhilewe enjoyfunfamilytimetogether.We recentlytookaroadtriptoKey Largo.Iwaslookingforthingsto dowithkidsanddiscovered KingdomEscapeRoom.

WesignedupforBlamsfar's BasementQuestbecause,with kids,Iwantedtopickonethatwe hadareasonablelikelihoodof escaping,andthisgamewasrated a5/10fordifficultyandan84% escaperate—seemedlikedecent oddsfortwointelligentadultswith threequick-thinkingpreteens.

Beforethegamestarted,wehad tobreakintotwogroups-sowe chosetodividebyboysversus girls.Thenthequestleadertookus tothedungeon,lockingusinseparatejail-likespaces.Thenthetimeclock started,andthegamebegan!

Immediatelywehadtoworktogether fromourdifferentdungeoncellsto searchforthingsthatmighthavemeaning.Ultimatelyittookcluesfromboth cellsandusworkingtogethertounlock onecellfirstandthengettheothers

out.Onceoutofthecells,wehadto solvenumerousriddlesandpiece togethercluestofindthekeythat allowedustoescapethecastle'sbasement.

Thekidshadtocommunicateand workwithusatafacepacetobeatthe clockbecauseweallarecompetitive andwantedtomakesureweescaped

intheallottedtime.Wehadto delegatetasksandcollectively solvemultipleproblemswitha senseofurgency.Thisescape game,inparticular,required everyonetobeequallyinvolved becauseitwouldhavebeen impossibleforjustoneortwo todoitall.It'sincrediblehow onegamecandosomuchfor thedevelopmentofcritical thinkingwhilealsohavingalot offun.Wedidagreatjob.No onegotmadorfeltleftout,and wemanagedtoescapewith12 minutestospare.Afunfamily accomplishmentwhilevacationingintheFloridaKeys.
