Welcome from the Director of Sport
The half-term break offered a wonderful opportunity for reflection, a chance to pause and recharge. It also provided the inspiration for the message I shared in this week’s assembly: being a great teammate. As we all know, this is something built off the pitches but showcased on it and beyond sport itself.

My own journey into sport began as a child playing football and rugby league, and someone I have always admired is Kevin Sinfield. He epitomises how friendship, teamwork and sport can combine to create something special, both on and off the field. To raise over £10 million to support the MND community is almost super-human. He and Rob Burrows had to get a mention in our Prep School assembly this week about being a great teammate! As a proud Loiner, some of my fondest memories as a young spectator were watching Leeds Rugby League (Leeds Rhinos) with my Grandad and family members at Headingley Stadium
During the break, I visited family and friends, enjoying the feast of live sport at the weekend. It was a perfect chance to reminisce. Our conversations inevitably turned to memories of shared moments, being good teammates and the bonds formed through sport. Twenty years on, those friendships remain strong, the same group of teammates who would still support each other in a heartbeat. I am openly biased, but sport will always provide opportunities for personal growth individually and as a collective. It teaches empathy, humility, resilience and loyalty – all qualities that make us better people, and in turn, better sportspeople. That was the message we left our students with this week: “Better people make better sportspeople.”
Here at Seaford, I have no doubt that our Sports Programme will continue to enhance some of the best years of your children’s lives. We should all be excited for what lies ahead. This week is action-packed, with some Saturday fixtures on the horizon – a new experience for those students.
It is also a poignant week for our community, as we come together for our Remembrance Service and the annual Old Seafordian sports events. This weekend perfectly links to our assembly theme, as our former students return to Lavington Park to reconnect, reminisce and relive their sporting moments – hopefully without pulling a hamstring in the process!
The weather may be turning more autumnal and gloomier, but our enthusiasm certainly is not. This halfterm promises to be full of opportunity, enjoyment and being better people. Exactly what Seaford Sport is all about.

Additional Medical Support
To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.
If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations
As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.
Dogs on the School Site
We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.
Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct
For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.
One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:
‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’
Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.
We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
