Welcome from the Director of Sport

The start of this half-term has been busy for Seaford Sport. There is a noticeable buzz around the site and a renewed sense of purpose as we return refreshed and ready for what promises to be a brilliant few weeks ahead.

Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of visiting Coombelands Equestrian Centre, a regular training base for our Equestrian Team. It was wonderful to see how that programme continues to go from strength to strength under the guidance of Lucy Sanders. The progress being made in Seaford Equestrian is a real credit to both her enthusiasm and the dedication of our coaches, riders and their families.

My first assembly at Seaford took place this week in the Prep School and focused on the theme of being a great teammate, something that sits right at the heart of Seaford Sport. My own love of sport began with rugby league as a child, and one of my great sporting heroes, Kevin Sinfield, embodies everything that being a great teammate is about, so he and Rob Burrows had to get a mention in our assembly this week! As a proud Loiner, some of my fondest memories as a young spectator were watching Leeds Rugby League (Leeds Rhinos) with my Grandad and family members at Headingley Stadium.

The message we shared with students this week was simple but powerful: “Better people make better sportspeople.”

This weekend, we gather as a community for two significant occasions. On Sunday, we pause together for our Remembrance Service with a moment of reflection, gratitude and unity as we honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice. It is always a moving and important event in the Seaford calendar, and we are delighted to welcome you to our service.

Immediately following that, the weekend brings our Old Seafordian (OS) sports event, one of the most enjoyable and meaningful traditions of the year. It is always special to see our alumni return to Lavington Park, reconnecting with old teammates, reliving memories and sharing stories from their time in Seaford colours, hopefully without too many pulled hamstrings in the process! These occasions perfectly capture what sport is all about: friendship, connection and the enduring bonds that last long after the school days.

Personally, I will be swapping my formal wear for a whistle this weekend as I referee the 4th XV. I am anticipating a competitive but free-flowing game and have began stretching in anticipation!

As we move into this new half-term, I have no doubt that our Sports Programme will continue to enhance what are without doubt some of the best years of our students’ lives. The weather may be turning more autumnal, but our enthusiasm certainly is not.

Better people make better sportspeople.

Medical Provision

This weekend, we will be supported by the Seaford College Physio Team, External Medical Provider and our Medical Centre.

Additional Medical Support

To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.

I have attached a letter from the College outlining how to use this free service. If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations

As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.

Dogs on the School Site

We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.

Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct

For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.

One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:

‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’

Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.

We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme. Blue Blood – Seaford
