Welcome from the Director of Sport

As we draw this half-term of sport to a close, it is a great opportunity to reflect on the remarkable progress made across the Seaford Sport provision. Over 75% of our students have taken part in Saturday fixtures, in ten different sports, demonstrating a fantastic level of commitment and enthusiasm. Alongside this, our Saturday activities and coaching sessions continue to thrive, with excellent engagement across a wide range of sports, including our Outdoor Education sport offerings, which add another exciting dimension to the sporting week.

This week has provided a fitting finale to the half-term, with a series of outstanding cross-country events culminating in the House Cross-Country, meticulously organised by Mr Disley-May and Miss Green. It has been brilliant to see so many students embracing running, one of the purest forms of sport, and we look forward to seeing this area continue to develop in the coming months.

It has also been a busy cup week, with hockey, rugby and netball fixtures taking place across multiple year groups. While results are not our sole focus, as they tend to take care of themselves, we are delighted to still be competing in various cup competitions after half-term, a testament to our teams performing at a high level. That said, it is always pleasing to celebrate those hard-earned victories – we all enjoy winning! This weekend marks another highlight of the season, with our U15 and 1st XV rugby teams competing in the prestigious St Joseph’s Festival, a major event in the school sport calendar. Representing Seaford on such a stage is a tremendous honour, and we wish both squads the very best. You can follow the action live via NextGen’s YouTube channel and through our Seaford Sport social media pages.

Throughout this week, amid lots of highly competitive fixtures, the abundance of confidence has been central to what I have witnessed. The word itself comes from the Latin con fide, meaning “with belief”, and that belief has been evident across every team and every performance. Confidence is not just a feeling; it is a behaviour that can be practised. This week, I have seen countless examples of students playing with conviction, trust and for each other, qualities that lead not only to success on the scoreboard but also to personal and collective growth.

As we conclude this half-term culminating in national tournaments, the challenge to all our students is simple: show us what confidence looks like. Whether it is a decisive pass, a powerful run or a bold decision, act with belief and the feeling will follow and almost become contagious in the group.

Thank you to all students, staff, coaches and parents for your incredible support and commitment. We look forward to building on this momentum next half-term with even greater ambition and enthusiasm.

Have a restful and well-deserved break, and come back ready to go again, with belief!

This weekend, we will be supported by the Seaford College Physio Team, External Medical Provider and our Medical Centre.

Additional Medical Support

To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.

I have attached a letter from the College outlining how to use this free service. If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations

As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.

Dogs on the School Site

We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.

Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct

For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.

One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:

‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’

Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College. We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme. Blue Blood – Seaford Sport kit provider
