He believed in me far more than I did at the age of 14.

Brittany Leigh Davis, contributing writer, knew this talented young lady when they were younger and was honored an interview! Meet Charity Bowden of Sweet Tea Trio

I

grew up in a very small town, in Alabama, on a cattle farm. I’d like to think that I’m a pretty simple girl that loves rhinestones. There’s nothing I love as much as God, my family, and country music. My dad taught me that you can never work hard enough and my mom taught me to get tough or die. Q. You appeared on The Voice in 2016 and you were on Team Miley. What was the best advice she gave you? A. Miley was by far the most interactive coach. She wanted to be involved from wardrobe, all the way to rehearsals. There was a lot of advice that my 16-year-old self didn’t soak up. The one thing I do remember her telling me is how important it is to feel confident in yourself on stage. She wanted us to be well-rehearsed, creative, and

Q. What is your most memorable moment on stage? A. Most of my memorable moments that involve music, aren’t on stage. They happen when meeting fans, running to get to stage, telling all the jokes in the green room, and the super long hours spent in vehicles. Q. What is the worst part about being on the road? A. It is hard being away from my family and friends. I miss out on a lot of things, whether it’s my nieces/nephews ball games or my best friend’s bachelorette party.

comfortable. Q. How was the name Sweet Tea Trio chosen? A. When the girls started the group, they were entered into a competition in Memphis within two weeks. Victoria’s mom had a friend that thought Sweet Tea was a perfect name. They used it for the competition, and it stuck! Q. Who did you listen to growing up? A. I grew up listening to a lot of gospel music, but mostly classic country. The lyrics to a Hank Williams’ song could make me cry long before I could walk or talk. I still listen to Patsy Cline almost every day. There’s so much heart and soul in classic country, and I grew up listening to music that went back to the 1930s. Q. When did you realize you could sing and could make a career out of it? A. Most days I still haven’t! I have loved music for longer than I can remember. It wasn’t until I competed in pageants and had a vocal coach that encouraged me to be more than just a pageant girl.

Q. What would you say has been your biggest accomplishment in life to this point? A. In August of 2021, I graduated from the University of Montevallo, debt-free, while double majoring in Marketing and Finance with honors. I spent my last two years of classes online and was on the road constantly. The day I was supposed to turn in my marketing final project, I couldn’t turn it in because I was playing a show at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch and there was no service or Wi-Fi (not sure why I thought I would have either of those in the middle of nowhere). Q. What is your favorite city that you have visited while touring? A. Charlevoix, Michigan! The kicker is that the weather is only nice for two or three months during the summer! Q. Which artist would be your dream collaboration? A. If I could choose anyone, living or dead, it would be Hank Williams, Kitty Wells, or Patsy
