LETTER FROM THE Chair
As we move through the final months of the year, I’m excited to reflect on the bustling weeks ahead, packed with exciting events that bring our community together. The La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce has a full slate of activities designed to celebrate the heart of our town—our residents, businesses, and local heroes.
First, we are honored to host the Doug Ditrich First Responders Golf Tournament & Chili Cook-off, named in memory of our beloved La Porte Police Chief, Doug Ditrich. This event is more than just a day of fun on the course and a flavorful chili competition— it is a tribute to our local first responders who put their lives on the line to keep us safe. We invite you all to come out, enjoy the day, and show your support for the men and women who serve our community.
Following closely is our annual Fishing Tournament, where anglers will cast their lines in the spirit of friendly competition. Whether you’re an avid fisherman or just enjoy being out on the water, this is a wonderful opportunity to relax and connect with fellow community members, with the potential to win big!
For families and children, we are looking forward to the Kids’ Rodeo & Fall Festival. This event is always a favorite, with rodeo fun, games, and festive fall activities that bring smiles to kids and parents alike. It’s the perfect way to embrace the season and enjoy a
day of community togetherness.
Finally, we will close out the season with our highly anticipated Purse Bingo. This event continues to grow in popularity, offering a chance for participants to win designer purses and other fantastic prizes, all while supporting the Chamber’s efforts. Purse Bingo is a lively night out, and I encourage you to join us for an evening of fun and philanthropy.
These upcoming events reflect the Chamber’s commitment to fostering a vibrant, close-knit community. They also present great opportunities to network, give back, and enjoy time with family and friends. I hope to see many of you there, as we continue to build on the traditions that make La Porte-Bayshore such a special place to live, work, and play.

Local Nonprofits Gather at San Jacinto Monument for Insightful Luncheon on Corporate Grants and Sponsorships
In the historical setting of the San Jacinto Monument and Museum, local nonprofit organizations recently gathered for a luncheon designed to empower and educate. This special event, sponsored by Beacon Federal Credit Union, aimed to provide invaluable insights into the corporate grant process, strategies for securing sponsorships, and effective ways to engage volunteers to promote their missions.
The luncheon began with a warm welcome from Chamber President, Jeff Martin, who emphasized the importance of nonprofits in our community and the critical role they play in addressing various needs. The atmosphere inside the historic monument was one of collaboration and shared purpose, as representatives from a diverse range of organizations mingled and exchanged ideas.
The program portion featured a panel of three knowledgeable speakers, Stephanie Clawson with Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital, Angie Thatcher with Air Products, and Michael Bland with Celanese Chemicals, who demystified the often-complex application process. They shared tips on how to craft compelling proposals that stand out and align with the goals of potential funders. Attendees were encouraged to think strategically about how their missions could resonate with corporate partners, fostering long-term relationships rather than just one-time donations.
Next, the focus shifted to sponsorship procurement, with industry professionals offering guidance on how to approach businesses for support. They highlighted the importance of building mutually beneficial partnerships and tailoring sponsorship packages to meet the needs of both the nonprofit and the sponsor. Real-world examples of successful sponsorship campaigns were shared, providing attendees with practical ideas to implement in their own organizations.
Throughout the event, participants had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in meaningful discussions. The collaborative spirit was palpable, as organizations shared their challenges and successes, finding common ground and potential partnerships.
As the luncheon concluded, attendees expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn and connect in such a unique and historic setting. The San Jacinto Monument provided a fitting backdrop for this gathering of nonprofit leaders, symbolizing the strength and resilience of our community as we work together to make a difference.
This luncheon was more than just a networking opportunity; it was a chance for local nonprofits to gain the tools and knowledge they need to thrive in an increasingly competitive landscape. With newfound inspiration and practical strategies in hand, these organizations are better equipped to further their missions and continue their vital work in our community.
Recently, chamber staff had the opportunity to attend an insightful and entertaining leadership conference. The event featured dynamic speakers, engaging workshops, and plenty of moments for laughter and connection.
Throughout the conference, staff members gained valuable leadership strategies, learned new ways to foster teamwork, and picked up fresh ideas to bring
back to the chamber. The blend of inspiration and practical advice left the team energized and ready to implement new approaches.
The experience not only strengthened leadership skills but also provided a fun and memorable experience for everyone involved. The chamber staff looks forward to applying what they learned to better serve our members and the community.

City of La Porte Offers Residents Generator Grant Program
In the wake of Hurricane Beryl, the City of La Porte has strategically redirected funds from our Community Fencing Grant Project to launch a vital new program aimed at bolstering home safety and power reliability. The Residential Generator Grant Program is an initiative designed to assist
residents in purchasing and installing whole home generators or tap boxes, ensuring that our community is better prepared for future emergencies.
We are thrilled to announce that over 25 residents have already applied for this program. As we move forward, we will begin the review process at the end of August, with the goal of notifying selected applicants in early September. Each chosen applicant will enter into a Memorandum of Agreement, which will clearly outline the roles and expectations for both the city and the homeowner.
This grant program represents a significant step in our commitment to community support and resilience. While we anticipate that we may be able to award a limited number of grants this year, we are planning to continue and expand the program in the future. If funds are still available, we will open the application process back up. We are confident that City Council will continue to support and fund this initiative in the upcoming 2024-25 Budget, ensuring that even more residents will benefit from this important effort. We invite all La Porte residents to stay engaged and informed by following our updates on social media, where we will share the latest news and developments about this important initiative.

U.S. News & World Report Names HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast Among Best Hospitals 2024-2025 as High Performing
HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast has been named by U.S. News & World Report to its 2024-2025 Best Hospitals as a High Performing hospital for Congestive Heart Failure and Heart Attack. This is the highest distinction a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings.

“HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast is committed to improving patient care by adhering to the latest treatment guidelines and processes to ensure timely and proper care for heart attacks and heart conditions,” said Yasmene McDaniel, CEO of HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast. “Our highly-qualified colleagues put their experiences and knowledge to work on a daily basis to ensure our community is provided world-class care.”
U.S. News evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. Hospitals awarded a “Best” designation excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, level of nursing care, and patient experience.
“For 35 years, U.S. News has been a leading resource for patients navigating their health care decisions,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News. “The ‘High Performing’ designation acknowledges hospitals that consistently deliver high-quality care for specific medical procedures and conditions. This recognition highlights their expertise and commitment to patient well-being.”
To calculate the Best Hospitals rankings, U.S. News evaluated each hospital’s performance on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and level of nursing care. The Best Hospitals Specialty rankings methodology and Procedures & Conditions ratings methodology measure patient outcomes
using data from millions of records provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This year, among other methodology refinements, U.S. News incorporated new data on care provided to patients with Medicare Advantage insurance and on care provided to out patients, nearly doubling the number of patients included in its annual data analysis. The Procedures & Conditions ratings are based entirely on objective quality measures.
