LEC Joins Handshake
This fall semester LEC launched its use of Handshake, a job recruiting platform that enables employers to connect with college students through targeted outreach, dynamic branding and digital features like virtual career fairs and events. Dubbed the “#1 way college students get hired,” there are currently 828 vetted employer partners offering over 3,180 jobs on LEC’s Handshake profile. The office of career development has been working with employer partners to utilize the platform and incentivizing LEC students to engage in using it through gift card drawings and challenge competitions.
“With so many part-time, internship, full time and further study options on offer that are tailored to the preferences of the user, it is a real-time tool to navigate careers,” said Eric Evans, Director of Career Development, Experiential Learning and Study Abroad. LEC has also partnered with other northeast Ohio schools and colleges for the Northeast Ohio Regional Career Exploration Fair, which took place on September 22 and hosted over 200 potential employers. In addition, LEC collaborated with nearby institutions to offer a Handshake sponsored event, Professionals with Pride 2021 for companies hiring LGBTQ+ identified employees on October 21st. “The possibilities are endless for students who use Handshake. They have the opportunity to attend Handshakesponsored events and connecting with employers from companies like the FBI, IBM and The Mayo Clinic,” stated Evans. Young alumni on a job search as well as those alumni offering jobs and internships are encouraged to join.
