Gwangbokjeol(광복절), the National Liberation Day of Korea is a day to commemorate Korea's freedom from the Japanese colonization on Aug 15, 1945, also the formation of the very first South Korean government on Aug 15, 1948. The word "Gwangbok" means "the day the light returned", referring to the restoration of national independence. With this, on every Aug 15, the Korean flags are hung to reflect on the history of the nation and to honor and to express gratitude for the hard works of numerous independence movement activists who sacrificed themselves for the independence of their homeland.

15 Aug, 1945 is National Liberation Day of Korea, 35 years of Japanese colonialism came to an end.

What do you wish the Kunsan community knew about your programs?

Our special events are perfect volunteer opportunities and the more engagement from the base that we have then the better our events turn out! We always do our best to make our facility, fitness, and special events a good time for everyone here away from home.

What is your best memory at the Fitness Center?

My best memory here is always the last game in sports, there is so much energy and engagement from many different squadrons. 8 FSS does what it can to boost morale here at Kunsan AB. From Marketing, the Loring, the education center, the gym, the DFAC, the M&FRC, Outdoor Recreation, the CAC tours and so many other areas. Can't forget the MPF folks who work hard to process you through PCS'ing, Inprocessing, Decorations, and other ways of keeping a record of your career. Bottom line is I love to let other career fields know what 8 FSS has going on to make Kunsan AB a better experience.

What is your favorite part about working at the Fitness Center?

My favorite part about working at the Wolf Pack Fitness Center is being able to provide the Wolf Pack with some morale through fitness, sports, and special events. My primary focus as the sports manager is to make sure that Intramural Sports are going well. Currently we have a rotating schedule for Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, Flag Football and Soccer. I meet so many different personalities from all the other squadrons during every sport so it's always fun learning and working with them.

The Fitness Center will release a series of workouts every Thursday starting from the 3rd to the 10th of August. Participants will then have until the following Monday to submit their video to the Fitness Center Facebook page for validation. Participants will be ranked based on how they performed in each of the workouts. The top 6 male and female will compete on one final workout on Fri, 18 Aug. We will be running heats of 2 (males first then females) and announcing winners after the end of the event. Prizes will be awarded to the top (3) finishers for both male and female. Open to everyone ages 18 and up.
