Lunar New Year in KOREA What is Seollal? Korean New Year is one of the important traditional Korean holidays in South Korea. This special holiday commemorates the first day of the Korean lunar calendar. The holiday takes place over the span of 4 days (Feb 9-12) and is marked by the gathering of family members, performing Korean rituals, eating traditional foods, playing folk games, and other traditional activities.

Korean New Year Food Tteok Guk ([떡국] soup with sliced rice cakes) is a traditional Korean food that is customarily eaten for the New Year. According to Korean age reckoning, the Korean New Year is similar to a birthday for Koreans, and eating tteokguk is part of the birthday celebration. Once a person has finished eating their tteokguk, they are one year older.

What is your favorite part about working at the Fitness Center? My favorite part about working at the Fitness Center is interacting with our customers on a daily basis. I get to meet and network with people from different organizations or squadrons. I also enjoy witnessing customers reach their goals and feel satisfied with the customer service that our Fitness Center provides. Furthermore, I enjoy organizing special events for the wing, which helps boost morale in the community. Working at the Fitness Center allows me to give back to the community, which is probably one of my favorite aspects of the job.

What is your best memory at Kunsan? I arrived in Kunsan about two months ago, and during this time, I've already made some wonderful memories. One standout experience was when I visited Gunsan City with my friends. Exploring the area allowed me to delve into Korean culture, which I find fascinating. I am grateful for this enriching experience, and for me, it's not just a memory that will last for a long time, but one that will endure forever.

What do you wish the Kunsan community knew about your programs? I wish the Kunsan community knew about the classes and programs we offer to assist them in achieving a healthy lifestyle. As Fitness Specialists, our role goes beyond just handing out equipment; we are here to help customers achieve their fitness goals in the best way possible. Additionally, we are certified to instruct on the proper use of equipment, host group exercises, and conduct circuit training classes that will help prepare our customers for their upcoming Fitness Assessments. I also wish the Kunsan community were more aware of the variety of programs we offer to help our Airmen stay Fit to Fight.
