kw institute for c In einer ehemaligen Margarinefabrik in Berlin-Mitte präsentieren die KW Institute for Contemporary Art seit fast 30 Jahren Ausstellungen zeitgenössischer Kunst und widmen sich so zentralen Fragen unserer Gegenwart. Im Frühjahr 2020 präsentieren die KW die erste umfassende Retrospektive von Hassan Sharif in Europa. Sharif zählt zu den einflussreichsten Künstler*innen des 20. Jahrhunderts im Nahen und Mittleren Osten. In den KW werden rund 150 Werke aus seinem Oeuvre gezeigt, darunter frühe Zeitungskarikaturen und Comiczeichnungen, Gemälde, Installationen und Assemblagen. Zeitgleich zeigen die KW die raumgreifende Installation »Love Song Sing-Along« der Künstlerin Kris Lemsalu Malone und des Musikers Kyp Malone Lemsalu. Die eigens für die KW konzipierte Neuproduktion des Künstler*innenduos vereint Performance, Musik und skulpturale Arbeiten, die allesamt von mythologischen Motiven durchdrungen sind und so eine animistische Welt erschaffen, die ihre Betrachter*innen als aktiven Teil der Installation einbeziehen.
Since its inception in a former margarine factory in Berlin-Mitte, KW Institute for Contemporary Art produces exhibitions and events which aim to approach central questions of our times through the means of contemporary art. This Spring, KW presents the first extensive retrospective on the artist Hassan Sharif in Europe. Sharif is considered as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century from the Middle East. At KW about 150 works from his oeuvre will be displayed, among others early caricatures, paintings, sculpture, installations, and assemblages. Alongside, KW presents the exhibition Love Song Sing-Along by artist couple Kris Lemsalu Malone & Kyp Malone Lemsalu. For their newly commissioned installation, Lemsalu Malone & Malone Lemsalu combine performance, music, and sculpture, which are permeated by mythological motifs and create an animistic world inviting the viewer to become an active part of the installation.
