Ladies, My husband Len will be traveling to Ecuador on May 13th to work with an organization called Shoulder to Shoulder Ecuador. After talking to him and now Sarah, I would like your help! Here are some of the donations we would like to get together: -Motrin/Advil(ibuprofen) and Tylenol(acetaminophen) infant drops, children's liquid, and tablets/capsules. You are welcome to buy store brand, that's what we use. (Many of the brand versions have been pulled off the market for some "packaging/shipping" issues) -Prenatal Vitamins -Infant vitamin drops -Kids chewable vitamins -Iron(Ferrous Sulfate) Tablets and infant drops -Chewable Calcium supplements -Benadryl(diphenhydramine) Tablets/Capsules/Liquid We'd like to be able to fill one huge suitcase. I would appreciate any help you can give him(and the people of Santo Domingo) as he begins this amazing journey. I think my social work stuff is finally rubbing off on him. There will be a tub at the Jazzercise center for you to bring your donations with you to class. Thanks for any help you can provide! Kara

Jazzercise in Shape Magazine— March 2011 Q. Recently I've been taking Jazzercise classes, but they've been around forever. Am I really getting a good workout? A. Great big Yes! The program may have started in 1969, but Jazzercise continues to be a body transformer. "Dancing is a fabulous fat burner-it torches up to 8 calories a minute studies show and it challenges the brain too says SHAPE fitness director Jeanine Detz, who loves the easy-to-learn Jazzercise routines. "Even if you're not a dancer, you can quickly pick up the steps." The hour long class includes a warm-up, at least 30 minutes of cardio, strength and flexibility moves, and a cool down. Plus, the workouts have evolved over the years. "We've incorporated everything from Latin Dance and kickboxing to Pilates and weight training, " says Judi Sheppard Missett, founder and CEO of Jazzercise, Inc. "And every class is different with new choreography and music, so you and your muscles never have a chance to get bored.

Exercise Smart with Arthritis If you have arthritis, your first inclination may be to avoid physical activity with the goals of resting your joints and avoiding pain. However, leading a sedentary lifestyle is one of the worst things you can do for arthritis. By engaging in regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight, you can preserve independence and mobility by reducing join pain, increasing flexibility and bolstering the muscles surrounding joints. After consulting with your physician about the type of exercise best for you, start slowly by performing flexibility exercises that you enjoy. These can be particularly useful for loosening joints after getting out of bed in the morning. Yoga or Tai Chi-a martial art that emphasized slow, fluid movement-are great ways to begin building up to performing 15 minutes of flexibility work per day. Next incorporate muscle strengthening activities, including the use of resistance bands, light weights and sit ups. Finally, begin utilizing aerobic exercises, including some of the activities you may enjoy doing every day, such as brisk walking, gardening, playing tennis or swimming. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, you should work towards at least two and a half hours of moderate aerobic activity per week. If you commit to making exercise part of your life, your joints will thank you. -From Lexington Clinic Magazine Spring 2011. *Jazzercise is complete work out that encompasses all of the above suggestion including aerobics, flexibility, balance and strength training for people of all ages, shapes, sizes and fitness levels.
