Song AND Dance 2012
HERITAGE OPEN DAYS 2012
The best of Portsmouth’s local professional and community talent come together for the annual evening of fantastic song and dance – plus a few special extras – in an evening hosted by local professional actors Alan Jenkins and Chris Marlowe.
The Kings Theatre is once again taking part in this annual event, which allows people to visit historic properties throughout the country absolutely free. Find out about this Grade II* listed building which has been described as “one of Portsmouth’s crown jewels”, and visit parts not normally open to the public.
With West End and “Oliver” Star Jack Edwards launching a charity cancer single, plus the annual “Instant Star” winner, the concert will raise money for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, cancer charity “Kick it into Touch” and the Kings Theatre Restoration Fund.

Don’t miss the chance to see this first complete UK production of a work by the composer of some of the world’s best-loved operas – La bohème, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Turandot… Discover this fascinating work, complete with the “lost” last act, by the young composer “on the road to genius”. Its passionate story has much in common with Carmen. The distinguished cast is led by John Hudson, who regularly sings the major Puccini tenor roles for English National, Welsh and Scottish Operas; by Mary Plazas, who sings major roles at the Royal Opera House, throughout the UK (recently a sensational Madama Butterfly at ENO) and in international opera houses; by Antonia Sotgiu, whose current roles include Amneris and Carmen at the Royal Albert Hall (also for WNO). Nicholas Jenkins conducts and Tony Baker directs – the team which presented last season’s Mireille “extraordinary quality one has no right to expect from a modest sized company...” “World-class singing”.
