BOARD OF DIRECTORS
PRESIDENTS REPORT
Welcome to our Spring/Summer edition of the Burst, it has been great to see so many of our members back in the Club and enjoying the hospitality provided by the staff and partaking of the delicious meals from Fireside Brasserie and Poloy Restaurant, both are great dining destinations.
With the Club now back as close as one can be too normal, or pre covid as they say, the Club has bought back many of our very popular promotions, Christmas in July was a great success as was the very popular ham raffle, the Sunday raffles are ongoing, and the solo artist starts at 12pm. The Friday night solo artist has recommenced, why not have a meal at the Fireside Brasserie and enjoy the music.
Alan Barnes OAM PRESIDENT

There are many great promotions coming up between now and the end of the year, they are listed in this edition of the Burst or check the Clubs web site. The Club Directors and the Club senior management recently gave up their weekend to attend a strategic planning meeting that was held at the Mittagong RSL, this ensures that the Board and the management are working together in planning the future direction of the Club.
The Club has finished upgrading the air conditioning in the Fireside Brasserie and Lounge area and this will improve the temperature control during the coming summer months. There are several other projects that are in the pipeline to improve the ambience and features of the Club, the foyer area upgrade is waiting on plans from the builders and the Board is looking at the possibility of putting a roof over the top level of the car park with solar panels on it to cut the amount of electricity the Club uses and continue our role in cutting our emissions.
Congratulations to the Sub-Branch Auxiliary on their 70th Anniversary which was celebrated with a luncheon held at the club on 24thSeptember, a report and photos of the event are in this edition.
Your Club through the ClubGRANTS scheme has once again assisted various very worthwhile charities and local junior sporting organizations with donations totaling over $133K, Homeless Veterans, Calvary Health Care, Morris Children’s Fund, Hurstville United JRLFC, Kingsgrove Colts JRLFC, St George Dragon JRLFC, Ursula’s/Fatima Netball and Bexley North FC and of course the Club’s own inhouse sporting groups are a few of the recipients, the full listing of the donations appears on page 4.
The Sub-Branch, the Auxiliary and the Kingsgrove RSL Community Group once again played an important role in the community, our thanks to them for giving freely of their own time representing your Club.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I wish all the Kingsgrove RSL Club members and their families a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year and thank you for your continued patronage of this great Club.
I look forward to seeing you at the Club sometime soon.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER’S REPORT
Your Club continues to progress back to some form of normality after the past two years with some of our regular events such as Christmas in July and the July Ham raffle being hugely successful.

Kingsgrove RSL are proud supporters of Learning Links, an Australian charity who provide children and young people who have difficulties learning with the skills, services and family support that will help empower them to realise their true potential.

Thanks to funding from Kingsgrove RSL Club for this project, Learning Links Speech Pathologists will work at Kingsgrove Public School to identify and support local children in the early stages of schooling who are at risk of poor academic outcomes and social isolation due to underlying speech, language and communication difficulties.
Every child is different so the goals of intervention will depend on their individual needs. These include Language Development - understanding and speaking, Speech Development - clarity, articulation, stuttering and dyspraxia, Voice Control –quality, volume, tone, pitch and awareness of voice, Literacy Skills – reading, writing and spelling, Cognitive Communication Skills – problem solving and imagination and Practical Language and Social Skills –making friends and social interaction. Through our partnership with Learning Links @learninglinksau, and thanks to our recent ClubGRANTS donation of $17,350 from Kingsgrove RSL Club, this year, Learning Links are supporting up to 32 students with weekly evidence-based therapies to help combat their challenges at a vital stage of their development and over 20 teachers at the stage to best address speech challenges
With the assistance from Kingsgrove RSL Club, Learning Links Speech Pathologists will be working to help empower these young people in our local community to learn and thrive.

I hope everyone has been handling COVID 19 through winter. Once again we have had to cancel our luncheon in November as nursing homes are being very careful with COVID 19 around them. We are hoping to get into the nursing homes this year to give the presents to the residents themselves, but if not, we will leave them at their receptions like last year.
The community group would like to thank the members who have given us donations of wool. It has been a great help to us in achieving our goals. A few people have also ordered the scarves and hats as well and all this goes to helping seniors in our area.
In November the Club is holding Carols by Candlelight and we have been given a stall at this function so come along and have a look to see what we have. You may be able to purchase something for Christmas.
If you are interested in joining our group or just doing things at home to help us, please leave your information at reception at the Club and they will get in touch with us. It is very rewarding doing gifts for others and the seniors appreciate the gifts we give them.

As this is the last report for this year I would like to thank the Club for their support throughout the year and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2023.
Our next meeting is in October so you can get in touch if you are interested. We meet every two months. We have between 450 and 500 gifts to do for Christmas so any help is welcomed.
HOPE TO SEE YOU AT CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT OR AT OUR NEXT MEETING.

The celebration of the Auxiliary’s 70th Anniversary was held on the 24th September with a luncheon at the Club.

It was very encouraging to see so many Sub-Branches and Auxiliaries attending the function. Those attending were the Mayor of Bay City, Dr Christina Curry, Guest Speaker Bronte Pollard, Liaison Officer for the National Centre for Veterans’ Healthcare at Concord, Ian Todd, CEO of Kingsgrove RSL, Board and Sub-Branch members and the Auxiliary ladies. The following RSL Sub-Branch and Auxiliaries were in attendance. Balmain/Rozelle, Canterbury/Hurlstone Park, Campbelltown, City Liverpool, Bass Hill, Penshurst, Earlwood/Bardwell Park, Marrickville, Forestville, Fairfield, and Lakemba.
Achievement certificates were presented on the day to the following members who have served the Auxiliary for many years. Mavis Rowe, Patricia Graham, Lynda Lake, June Roy and Jeannine Geerin, all receiving 20 years of service. Congratulations to all those ladies for their time and effort over the years of service. Unfortunately Lorraine Doohan was not able to attend to receive her certificate for a wonderful effort of 35 years’ service.

During the luncheon I was delighted to present on behalf of the Auxiliary, a donation of $8,000 to the RSL LifeCare Veterans’ Service and $4,000 to the Spur Equine Program. A mighty effort from the ladies in raising these funds for a worthwhile cause. Thank you to Ian Todd and his staff for their effort in making the function a success. A very big thank you to our President Alan Barnes who was MC for the day and did a marvelous effort.

The Auxiliary’s next project is our Christmas raffle commencing in November and we look forward to presenting some wonderful prizes for the event.

With the summer season just around the corner, I’m sure everyone will welcome the warmer weather after what has been a very cold and wet winter, although the weather bureau is saying more rain is on the way.
The very pleasing news we received recently was that RSL NSW had approved for Padstow RSL Sub-Branch to become a Chapter of Kingsgrove RSL Sub-Branch, this is a win win situation for both Sub-Branches where we will both be a lot stronger, it will also ensure that Padstow RSL continue to have a presence at their Club and in the community. A big welcome to Trevor Young and all the members of Padstow RSL Sub-Branch, when you see them around the Club give them a warm welcome.
On Sunday 14th August the Sub-Branch held our VP Day Commemoration Service and luncheon, cadets from TS Sirius and 233 St George Regional Cadet Unit, provided the Catafalque Party and Guard. LTCOL Schon Condon GCSJ RFD inspected the Guard and gave an interesting insight into WW2.
Congratulations to the Sub-Branch Auxiliary on their celebratory 70th Anniversary luncheon held at the Club on Saturday 24th September, there were nine (9) Sub-Branches represented with over (100) representatives, the Mayor of Bayside Council Dr Christina Curry was in attendance and Bronte Pollard the Liaison Officer at the National Centre for Veterans Health Care at Concord gave a presentation on the work they are doing with Veterans. The day was a great success.
On 30th October Peter Merlino, Trevor Young and I will be travelling to Newcastle to attend the NSW RSL State Congress, this will be the first face to face Congress in two years, the previous ones were held via zoom and although they achieve an outcome it is not as satisfactory, we will report the outcome of all the motions put forward at the next Sub-Branch meeting.
The Sub-Branch will be holding the Remembrance Day Commemorative Service and luncheon on Sunday 6th November commencing at 10.45am. The TS Sirius and 233 St George cadets will be participating. All Sub-Branch members are welcome to attend and medals to be worn.
The Commemorative services and luncheons held by the Sub-Branch are very well attended these days with Belfield and Bankstown RSL and now Padstow RSL members adding to the numbers.
The Sub-Branch Committee have a very busy period coming up in November with a number of schools and nursing Homes requesting a Remembrance Day Service. Members are welcome to attend please see Secretary Peter Merlino re times and dates of the individual services.
As this is the Christmas edition of the Burst I would take this opportunity on behalf of the Sub-Branch Committee and the members to extend our Best Wishes for Christmas and the New Year to the Board of Directors, Club CEO Ian Todd, the Club Management team, the super helpful office staff and the terrific Club staff who look after the Sub-Branch at our meetings and Commemorative services as well as Poloy Restaurant who provide the great meals at the Commemorative luncheons.
To the Sub-Branch Executive, Committee, Sub-Branch members, the Auxiliary members, you and your families, may you all have a Merry Christmas, a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.
Our next Sub-Branch General Meeting is on 24th October, followed by 19th December dinner and refreshments which will be provided after the meeting.

Where has 2022 gone? It seems like only yesterday we celebrated the New Year and with the Festive Season and another New Year now fast approaching this year has gone by way too fast.
Our Darts Club weekly competition is continuing with a lot of fun to be had by all. Some of our Darts members are also competing in an Inter Club competition with details and results in their reports.
The Golf Club are completing their Club Championships when the rain allows them to play and the results could be surprising, so you will have to read the Golf report to catch up on who has been winning.
The Round Robin was not conducted again this year but hopefully will be able to be held next year as it is a great inter club competition which always ends with a lot of laughs.
Our Sporting Clubs Champions will be revealed at the Stars Tribute night on Saturday 3rd December and all Sporting Clubs
members and their partners are encouraged to attend so that you can show your support for your Club Champion and to your Club who provides the funding in the form of Sporting Grants so that you can participant in your chosen sport at a minimal cost.
If you are considering joining a Sporting Club now or in the New Year, just ask at Reception and they will give you the details of who to contact.
In Closing I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Board of Directors, Management and especially the staff for their support over the year towards the Sporting Clubs.
I would also like to wish all the Sporting Clubs, the Club Members, Staff and their families the very best for Christmas, along with a Happy and safe New Year and I look forward to seeing you at the Club.

Women’s Doubles Jeanette Hollingsworth & Lynda Lake Runners Up Rachael Berecz and Donna Aronis
Men’s Doubles Randall Green and Corey Pinkus Runners Up Michael White and Robert Mahon
Mixed Doubles Kris Meyer and Michael White Runners Up Donna Aronis and Randall Green
A good day was had by all and congratulations to everyone who played, especially to Robert who has become our new champion.
Our darts social nights finish at the end of November and resumes again in January 2023. The darts AGM is in February 2023. If you are interested in playing darts, even if you have never played before, come down and introduce yourself on Friday nights after the raffles in the Diggers Lounge. We have prizes throughout the year on fun nights and a Christmas party at the end of the year. It costs $5 to play each night and there is a player’s draw to be won. If you think you might like to join us leave your name at reception or come and see us on Friday nights. If you do not have darts we have some available for you to have a go.
