Welcome to the first edition of the Burst for 2024, it has been an exciting time for members at the Club over the last three months, the very popular ham and seafood raffles in December, a great Australia Day celebration and February the membership car draw. The Club has many more of these exciting promotions planned during 2024, details are listed in the Burst or the Club’s website/Facebook.
I am pleased to report that the Club made a net profit after tax of $176,364 for 2024, this is an excellent result, given the additional expenditure that was incurred improving various areas of the Club during 2024, the revamped reception area, Poker Machine room, the Fireside Kitchen area with walk in fridge and freezer. This result was achieved through the hard work of the CEO Ian Todd, COO Debbie Harris and the Management Team, our dedicated staff, the Board and of course the patronage at the Club by you, our members.
I will take this opportunity to extol the Club’s two great eating destinations, Fireside Cafe with its wide variety of Western food, casual dining at its best and Poloy Restaurant with a terrific variety of Asian meals, check the menus on the Club website, both have daily board specials.
Remember the Club has areas that can accommodate functions, for special birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, wakes etc.; all can be fully catered for with a wide variety of packages available, the Clubs Function Manager Mar Clark can assist putting together a successful event.
A reminder to all members that voting in the 2024 Club Elections will be held over two days, Friday 15th and Saturday 16th March, please take the time to cast your vote as it is your opportunity to decide who will be the Directors on the Club Board as they set the future direction of the Club. It is pleasing to see that the members have endorsed the re-election of the Club Boards Executive, Tas Aronis and Michael Bougoukas for the next two years and I thank the members for the opportunity to continue my role as President.
The Clubs Annual General Meeting (AGM) is on Tuesday the 26th of March at 7.00pm, your attendance would be appreciated, remember it is your opportunity to bring forward any items that you feel may improve the Club and or ask questions of the Board or the Management.
On behalf of the Board our thanks to the Club CEO Ian Todd, COO Debbie Harris, the Management Team, our great staff who go about their roles in a cheerful and helpful manner ensuring the Club provides a high level of service to our members and their guests thus ensuring the Clubs continued success.
The Sub-Branch, with their Chapters Padstow and Campsie SubBranches, the RSL Auxiliary and the Kingsgrove RSL Community Group have done a great job during 2023 in looking after the welfare of their members and the Community, especially the local nursing homes, sporting groups, schools, and hospitals to name a few organizations who have benefited from their support.
On behalf of the Board of Directors thank you for your continued support of this great Club. We look forward to seeing you at the Club some-time soon.

It is with pleasure that I present to members the Financial Report for the year ending 31st December 2023, with your Club posting a profit after tax of $176,364.
The Club trading throughout the year was disrupted by the renovations to the facilities consisting of:
• a change of layout and refurbishment for the Reception Area.
• a refurbishment of the Sports Lounge including an increased TAB Lounge and reinstatement of two snooker tables.
• an increase and refurbishment of the Poker Machine area.
• an expansion of the Fireside Kitchen including the installation of a walk-in refrigerator and freezer.
• A refurbishment of the front façade of the Club.
In comparison to 2022 our total revenue for the year decreased by 2% to $11,158,985, this was due to a decrease on Poker Machine trade of 8% whilst all other areas experienced an increase in trade with Bar Sale increasing by 13%, Café Sales increasing by 19% and an increase in Interest and Other Revenue of 25%.
The economy saw an increase in inflation during the year which resulted in an increase in our expenses in most areas with Direct Costs increasing by 9%, employee benefits increasing by 12% and Other Expense increasing by 3%.
The Club renovations and the purchase of property in Kingsgrove resulted in an increase in our borrowings to $3M from $915K, however this is aligned with the Club’s strategic plan to continually improve the Club facilities and increase our property footprint in Kingsgrove when opportunities arise.
Our investments have been retained at $1.75M.
Members total equity increased to $26.4M
A copy of the Club’s Financial Report for 2023 containing the Directors’ Report and The Auditor’s report is available on the Club website.
The Club’s membership increased by 4.4%. The Club’s membership now stands at:
March 2024 at 7pm.
April 25th Anzac Day is a very important day on our calendar and the Club is planning a full day of events commencing with our commemorative service from 7am. We hope that you can join us in our “Respect the Day” campaign and visit the Club, check the full program in this edition.
As the year progresses, we will be implementing more promotions and events so please keep up to date on our program by viewing our website and inhouse advertising. Including:
Our Chocolate Easter Egg Raffle with a large assortment of chocolate hampers in time for Easter on Friday 15th March. Tickets are only $1.00 and are on sale from 4.30pm. Draw to commence at 6.00pm. Then on Thursday 28th March, join us for our ever-popular seafood raffle to win an assortment of oysters, prawns and seafood for Easter lunch.
Fireside Brasserie will also have a great selection of seafood specials over the Easter long weekend, so book a table to avoid disappointment.
Mother’s Day will soon be upon us and we will be holding our usual Mother’s Day breakfast with a free voucher to all mothers who are members and specials for the weekend for lunch and dinner. These events fill up fast so booking early is recommended.
My thanks to the President Alan Barnes and the Board of Directors for their contribution and support throughout the year.
My sincere thanks for the tireless efforts of my management team lead by Chief Operating Officer Debbie Harris, our Head Chef Karl Bonwick and his team along with all our friendly staff.
In closing I would like to thank you our members for supporting the Club throughout the year and especially through the renovations as this caused some inconvenience for many of you.

Welcome to the first report for the 2024 edition of the Burst, it is hard to believe that we are in the third month of the year, I trust all our members and their families had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year and we are looking forward to a very busy but rewarding year with Padstow and Campsie Sub-Branches and all our members being an integral part of the 2024 Commemorative program that has been put together by the Committee.
The Kingsgrove Remembrance Day Service was held on Sunday the 5th of November with the Cadets from TS Sirius and 233 St George Regional Cadet Unit making up the Catafalque Party and the Guard. The Remembrance Day Address was given by Lt Col Schon Condon GCSJ RFD of the Royal Australian Artillery, the Sutherland Shire Band provided the music and the Sing Australia Choir providing the vocal accompaniment. A lovely two course lunch was provided by Poloy staff for our members and guests with the Groove City Duo providing the entertainment.

Since my last report your District Council (FSMDC) representatives have attended meetings at Chester Hill hosted by Bass Hill RSL in December, the February meeting was at Ingleburn RSL and March will be at Camden RSL.
As this is the first edition of the Burst for 2024, I will take the opportunity to thank Secretary Peter Merlino and Treasurer Peter Burgess; they do an enormous amount of work behind the scenes to make the Sub-Branch run efficiently especially with the addition of Padstow and Campsie Sub-Branches. Vice Presidents Phil Pollard who has deputized for me on various occasions and Robert Talbot AM our Welfare Officer. Thanks to the Committee which now has representatives from the three Sub-Branches which assists greatly with the coordination for the Commemoration services and Nursing Home visits.
The Sub-Branch Auxiliary conducted three raffles during the year to raise funds for various veteran organisations in particular the Equine Spur Program, the Kokoda Track Walkway and RSL Life Care. Our thanks to the ladies for the great job that they do during the year.
On behalf of the three Sub-Branches, we offer our sincere condolences to the families and friends of all the Sub-Branch members who have passed away since the last report.

The 2023 Christmas raffle was a success with over $2,400 being raised. Winners were Alan Barnes, Joseph Lovisolo, Karen Whichelo, Margaret Atkins, Theodoros Lorentzos, Diane Turner, Rachel Bevecz and Liam McCauley. Congratulations to all those winners and thank you to all our members who purchased tickets. Thanks must also go to the Auxiliary and staff for their assistance.
Alan Barnes donated his prize of the BBQ, plus an outdoor setting of table and chairs to the Spur Equine Program at Picton. A Veteran’s Lifecare Program. Many thanks Alan for your generosity.
The Auxiliary wishes to thank Bunnings, K-Mart and Coles for their generous support in providing prizes for our raffles.
On the 15th November three of our members, Lynda Lake, June Roy and myself, assisted with preparing and serving BBQ food to school children who were on an assignment at the Kokoda Walkway at Concord.
Prior to Christmas the Auxiliary prepared and delivered Welfare Christmas baskets to nine members of the Sub-Branch and Auxiliary, who are either living at home or residing in aged care. We wish them good health in 2024.
Auxiliary members attended the VP Day at the Kokoda Walkway Memorial Track on Friday 3rd November last. Robert Talbott laid a wreath on behalf of Kingsgrove RSL Sub-Branch and Auxiliary. The Auxiliary meets every fourth Monday of the month at 6.00pm. All welcome.
Our Christmas deliveries last year were very successful and the residents of the four nursing homes we attended were very grateful. These nursing homes are Estia – Bexley, Fairmont – Bexley, Southhaven – Padstow and Casa Mia – Padstow.
We had a stall at the club in December and would like to thank the members for purchasing from it as the money goes towards helping the nursing homes. For Christmas we do gifts like coat hangers, blankets, beanies, mittens, washers, soap and many other projects. The residents do appreciate all that we do.
A luncheon is being organized for March where bingo is played and all attending receive a gift. We have two luncheons a year and the nursing home residents love attending these days.
Southhaven Aged Care organized a morning tea for our ladies which we attend in February. We had an enjoyable morning and were spoilt by the staff. A few residents came as well and we all had a good chat. Thank you Southhaven for a lovely morning.
If you would like to join our group please make any inquires at reception, leave your name and phone number, and we will get back to you.
In closing I would like to thank all the members who are donating articles and wool to our group. We appreciate what you are doing and it helps us to look after seniors in our community.
