BOARD OF DIRECTORS

PRESIDENTS REPORT

Welcome to the Summer edition of the Burst, its great to see so many of our members and their guests enjoying the summer days at the Club in the airconditioned lounge areas or outside on the veranda which is very pleasant at this time of the year.

As mentioned in the previous edition of the Burst the Board has appointed Club member Kate Gilbert to fill the casual vacancy on the Board, which was created with the resignation of Heather Shepherd, several well credentialed members applied for the position, and it was a tough task for the Board to choose the person to fill the position. I am sure Kate will make a very worthwhile contribution to the Board. Welcome Kate.

Members, please note next year there will be a Club Board election, the dates for nominations and voting are on page 5 of the Burst, if you are interested in standing, please avail yourself of the nomination form through reception and if you have any queries as to what is involved talk with one of the current Board Members or CEO Ian Todd. We encourage all members to take the opportunity to vote as the Board sets the direction of the Club.

The Club Board and Management are continuing to look at areas to make the Club more sustainable and look for opportunities to secure the Clubs financial future.

Your Club through the clubs Grants scheme has once again assisted many very worthwhile charities and local junior sporting organizations with cheques totaling $124K, Homeless Veterans, Calvary Health Care, St George Children with Disabilities, Hurstville United JRLFC, Kingsgrove Colts JRLFC and of course the Clubs own inhouse sporting groups are a few of the recipients, the full listing of donations appears on page 4.

The Sub-Branch, the Auxiliary and the Community Group continue to play an important role for the Club in the community, providing ANZAC and Remembrance Day Services at local schools and Nursing Homes, providing Easter eggs and Christmas Hampers, organizing visits by Nursing Homes to the Club for morning tea our thanks to all those involved for giving freely of their own time helping others and representing the Club in the community.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I wish all the Kingsgrove RSL Club members and their families a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year and thank you for your continued patronage of this great Club.

I look forward to seeing you at the Club sometime soon.

“BUDGET: AN ORDERLY SYSTEM OF LIVING BEYOND YOUR MEANS.”

NEW APPOINTMENT TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS.

Kate Gilbert has been successful in joining the Board of Directors due to a vacancy caused by the resignation of Life member Heather Shepherd.

Kate has been an involved member for more than 20 years and is committed to ensuring the club continues to thrive whilst delivering excellent benefits for its members.

With over 35 years’ experience within the nursing profession where she held RN, education and management profiles, Kate brings a wealth of business acumen as well as life experiences to the position.

SUB-BRANCH PRESIDENT’S REPORT

The Summer season has arrived, and it would appear with the lack of rain we are in for another period of drought which is not what we want with the ever-rising cost of living, however we do have the festive season not far away which is something to look forward to as we celebrate with family and friends.

The Sub-Branch held our VP Day Commemoration Service and luncheon on Sunday 13th August with our guest speaker LTCOL Schon Condon GCSJ RFD and his wife Debbie, it’s always special with Schon providing interesting insights into WW2, the TS Sirius Cadets and the 233 Regional Cadet Unit provide the Catafalque Party and Guard, the service was followed by a luncheon which was enjoyed by all who were there.

Our next Commemoration Service is Remembrance Day being held on Sunday 5th November, it will be followed by a lunch, all SubBranch and Auxiliary members are all welcome, medals to be worn.

I will also mention that Padstow and Campsie RSL Sub-Branches are holding a Remembrance Day Service at their respective memorials on Saturday 11th November Kingsgrove RSL SB will have members attending these services, all Kingsgrove Sub-Branch and Auxiliary members are welcome to attend either service, a lunch is provided after the service.

The NSW RSL Congress is being held in Newcastle on the 22nd to 24th October, Peter Merlino, Phil Pollard, Trevor Young and myself will be attending we will report back to the December Sub-Branch meeting with the result of the various motions being put forward.

Kingsgrove and our Chapter Sub-Branches Padstow and Campsie hosted a very successful Far Southern Metropolitan District Council

SPORTS ADMINISTRATOR

I would like to start by welcoming the snooker club back.

Yes, the snooker tables are back, there has been a steady number of members enjoying the return of the tables and I would like to let you know that all members are welcome to join the fun on a Friday evening.

The Darts club have completed their Club championships competition. Congratulations to all winners and participants. For those of us that are not so serious, please join us on a Friday evening for a fun social night of darts.

The golf club have also finished their club championships. Congratulations to all participants and winners. As we are all aware, the weather has been warming up so there is no excuse for not getting up in the bright and early hours to enjoy a round of golf.

Unfortunately, we have still not started a fishing club. It is a work in progress and as the weather has now warmed up, we might be able

to receive more interest in starting up the fishing club again.

Our round robin was held on 31 October at 7.00pm start between the darts, golf and snooker clubs. This was a well-attended event.

Please remember that we will be having our end of year celebration and Presentation evening on the 2nd of December, please come along & enjoy the night.

Finally, on behalf of the President, Board of Directors and Management, we would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody that has participated in our sporting clubs and wish everybody a safe, healthy and Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

We hope to see everybody and new embers in the 2024.

Our social darts will finish in November 2023 and start again in January 2024. We will have our Christmas Party in December to finish the year, where players will receive their trophies from the championships. If you would like to join us in 2024 to play darts, come down on a Friday night and see us or make enquiries at reception. We have lots of events during the year and many prizes to be won.

We are hoping to be able to personally deliver to each resident.

We are in the process of organizing a morning tea/ lunch for the residents of these nursing homes and also Kingsgrove Community Aid Centre in November. We have bingo to play and every resident attending will receive a gift on the day. This is the first one we have been able to have since Covid.

We are having a stall at the club on Saturday 25th November 2023 so come along and see what you may be able to buy for Christmas

or order some football items for next year. All proceeds go to helping seniors in our community. Hope to see you there.

Thank you to all members who have donated wool or made items for our group. It is very much appreciated and helps the ladies to achieve their goal.

We would like to thank the Club for supporting our group over the years and hope to continue to do so as the seniors in the community appreciate what we do.
