PRESIDENTS REPORT
BOARD OF
DIRECTORS
Welcome to our Autumn edition of the Burst, it was pleasing to see so many of our members and their families take advantage of the great promotions held at the Club over the Christmas New Year holiday period finishing with our big Australia Day special. The management has many more great promotions and events planned for 2023. I am pleased to report that the Club made a net profit before tax of $887,434 for 2022 this is an excellent result given that we still had reluctance from the community to socialize with the carryover from Covid. The management team lead by CEO Ian Todd and COO Debbie Harris worked extremely hard, as did our dedicated staff managing the Club during the past twelve months.
Alan Barnes OAM PRESIDENT
The Board and the Management has been busy planning further upgrade of the Club and the facilities. The Club façade will be getting a much-needed makeover in the New Year, this will include the entrance to the car park. As mentioned in the last edition of the Burst we are waiting on final plans and costings for the revamp of the reception area, this will free up an area in the Sports Bar for the snooker club to recommence playing. The roof over the car park including solar paneling is still being assessed as it is a major cost, and the Board is always careful when spending Club funds. A reminder to all members that the Clubs Annual General Meeting will be held at 7.00pm 28th March, please take the time to attend as this is an ideal opportunity to ask questions of the Management and or the Board, note there are no elections this year.

The nation’s most important day of the year comes Tuesday 25th April, where we recognize our current service Defence Personnel and all those ex-service men and women who have served with and for Australia, full details of ANZAC Day events are on page 12 & 13. Your Club through the clubs Grants scheme has continued to assist many very worthwhile charities and local junior sporting organizations during 2022 and will continue this valuable support during 2023.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER’S REPORT It is with pleasure that I present to members the Financial Report for the year ending 31st December 2022, with your Club posting a profit before tax of $887,434. The Club was able to trade for the full year without the disruptions we have experienced in the past two years and trade in all areas significantly increased. This definitely was a rebuilding year to get back to our normal trading, however we did experience ongoing problems with staff shortages, supply issues and cost increases largely due to inflation that impacted on the operations. In comparison to 2021, our total revenue was back to prepandemic levels at $11,455,203 an increase of 42%, attributed by a 45% increase in Poker Machine Revenue, a 41% increase in Bar Sales and a 56% increase in Fireside Brasserie Café Sales. With the increase in trade, we experienced increases in cost of Raw Materials by 62%, Poker Machine Taxes by 57%, Employment Benefits by 40% and Other Expenses by 35%. The Club was able to build on our investments increasing the term deposits to $1.75M an increase of 84% ($800k) and reduce our borrowings to $915k, a decrease of 14%. Members total equity increased to $26.2M. A copy of the Club’s Financial Report for 2022 containing the Directors’ Report and The Auditor’s report is available on the Club website. The Club’s membership decreased during the year and this is attributed to the changes that were implemented to the terms in the past two years, we expect to see growth in 2023 as many of our normal events and promotions resume. The Club’s membership now stands at: Financial Members

The Club’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 28th March 2023 at 7pm. During the past twelve months the Board of Directors and management undertook an extensive review of our Club’s Strategic Plan, Our Vision, Our Mission and Objectives to ensure the ongoing future of your Club. A copy of the Strategic Plan can be viewed on the Club website. Part of these objectives is a renovation of areas of the Club to better assist the operations of the Club and enhance on the current facilities we offer to you the members. A report on the renovations can be found on page 6. April 25th Anzac Day is a very important day on our calendar and the Club is planning a full day of events commencing with our commemorative service from 7am. We hope that you can join us in our “Respect the Day” campaign and visit the Club, check the full program in this edition. As the year progresses, we will be reimplementing more promotions and events so please keep abreast of our program by viewing our website and inhouse advertising. Two such event are: Boxing Main Event – Live on Fox Sports in the Club Tim Tszyu vs Tony Harrison WBO world tile boxing match on Sunday 12th March 2023 from 12pm. Women’s World Cup – Live on Optus Sports in the Club, all games from 20th July 2023 through to the final on 20th August 2023. My thanks to the President Alan Barnes and the Board of Directors for their contribution and support throughout the year. My sincere thanks for the tireless efforts of my management team lead by Chief Operating Officer Debbie Harris, our Head Chef Karl Bonwick and his team along with all our friendly staff. In closing I would like to thank you our members for supporting the Club. Ian Todd Chief Executive Officer

K I N G S G ROV E RS L COM MU N I T Y G RO U P As this is the first report for the year, I would like to let you know that we only delivered Christmas presents to four nursing homes last year as St. George Aged Care was closed down. We tried to deliver presents before they closed but were unsuccessful. The four nursing homes we delivered to were grateful for the presents and apologised to us for them not allowing us in to give presents personally. We delivered to all their reception areas and the staff of each nursing home were going to give them to the residence. At least they will know we have not forgotten them. Hopefully it will be better this year. Easter is coming and we are organising presents for the nursing homes to be delivered end of March or beginning of April. The nursing homes we attend are Estia at Bexley, Fairmont at Bexley, Casa Mia at Padstow and South Haven at Padstow. They are all very pleased at what we do for them.

Thanks to the Sing Australia Choir Ashbury who make a very welcome addition to our Commemoration services. The 2023 ANZAC Day service will follow the usual format details are provided on page 12 & 13. All current Defence force personnel, ex-service men and women and their descendants are welcome to march, and relatives, friends and all members of the community are welcome to attend the service to be held in the Memorial Park in front of the Club. The Sub-Branches Next Commemoration Service and luncheon is the Battle of the Coral Sea on Sunday 7th May, the TS Sirius Cadets will provide the Catafalque Party and the Guard. The Service will commence at 10.45am, medals to be worn. Since the last edition of the Burst your Far Southern Metropolitan District Council (FSMDC) representatives have attended and reported on meetings at the Bulldogs Leagues Club hosted by Lakemba RSL in December, Ingleburn RSL in February and in March we will be at Bankstown RSL. At the Ingleburn RSL meeting I was honored to receive a “Thank you for your service, Quilt” which was presented by the Auxiliary coordinator Pauline James OAM. This beautiful quilt was put together by the Ingleburn RSL Auxiliary members, my thanks to Pauline and the ladies.
On 30th October to 1st November Peter Merlino, Trevor Young and myself attended the NSW RSL Congress in Newcastle, this was the first face to face congress in three years, which was a much more productive meeting than the previous Zoom meetings and we will be returning to Newcastle this year. Being the first edition of the Burst for 2023, I will take the opportunity to thank our Secretary Peter Merlino and Treasurer Peter Burgess; they do an enormous amount of work behind the scenes to make your Sub-Branch run efficiently. Vice Presidents Phil Pollard and Robert Talbott AM and the Committee which now includes two Padstow RSL representatives Trevor Young and Ken Rochford, who pitch in giving up their own time to attend member’s funerals, school and nursing home Commemoration services. The Sub-Branch has been advised that RSL NSW has approved for Campsie RSL Sub-Branch to become a Chapter of Kingsgrove RSL Sub-Branch, the changeover will take place over the next couple of months, and we welcome Ken Button and Ron Jones and all the Campsie SB members who now become members of Kingsgrove, this is a win, win, situation for both Kingsgrove and Campsie as we have found out with Padstow becoming a Chapter of Kingsgrove. The Sub-Branch Auxiliary are going from strength to strength with the addition of new members and will be assisting as usual on ANZAC Day. They run various raffles during the year so buy a ticket as all proceeds go to various Veteran ‘s charities that are approved by RSL NSW. On behalf of the Sub-Branch Committee, we offer our condolences to the families and friends of all those Sub-Branch members who have passed away since the last report. “Poise: the act of raising the eyebrows instead of the roof” ALAN R.
