Week 24

Friday 14th March

King’s

Leadership Academy Bolton is a ‘Good’ school.

Principal’s Message

Welcome to the 24th edition of the weekly King’s Newsletter, another busy week of learning and enjoyment across the school with a variety of things taking place.

Last week we celebrated World Book Day, instead of asking people to dress up as book characters we went for an inclusive approach involving every child through their Mills. Each Mill decided on a book and a theme and decorated their classroom door, the school was a hive of activity throughout the week and it was such a great way to involve all of our children without putting pressure on families to find clothing or fancy dress items which can be difficult to do and costs you money The winners for World Book Day best door design are below.

Advanced notice that the Year 7 Parents event will be moved to Thursday 8th May, with Ramadan taking place during March we thought it best to make it known now and give families plenty of time to plan. With our Year 7 children joining us in September it also allows teachers more time to assess what your child has really excelled at this year and what their next steps are to be even better.

Our Year 11 results afternoon takes place on 27th March, all year 11 pupils will remain in school as there are various sessions taking place particularly with coursework elements. Pupils in 7-10 will be permitted to leave at 1:15 to allow Year 11 teachers to meet with pupils and parents across the afternoon into the evening. Again, as we have done previously, any child that needs to remain in school until 3:35 we will have provision for them. The afternoon is to allow an opportunity to maximise the final few weeks, set out clear targets and achievable next steps to ensure that your Year 11 child achieves the highest grade possible

And finally, our secret Friday ‘Thank you’ took place today for 180 Year 10 and 11 chi pupils picked by their Mill tutor to recognise the huge number of children who go about their business everyday being kind, looking after others, working hard...living the ASPIRE code.

International Women’s Day Football Tournament

Earlier this month, to celebrate International Women's Day, seven girls traveled to the Toughsheet stadium to take part in a football event organized by Bolton Wanderers in the Community. The day began with a lively 5-a-side tournament, followed by a presentation ceremony where they each received a t-shirt from members of the women's Bolton squad. After lunch, we enjoyed a stadium tour that included visits to the press room, the press gantry, the changing rooms, and an exciting moment standing right by the pitch!

Food Technology

Within Food technology it is understood that working with food is difficult for a large number of our students here at KLAB during Ramadan. Due to this our students will embark on a reduced curriculum Meaning, students will still be doing some food practical throughout Ramadan, and we will be focusing on dishes which students can enjoy when breaking their fast with families.

Students next practical will be Pizza Pocket Pitas. Where students will cover/develop safe practical skills including knife skills, Toasting using a grill and linking this to the Eat Well Guide - Micronutrients/Macronutrients, Complex Carbohydrates

Students will need to bring the following ingredients on the dates linked to their class code. - They will not need to put them in the fridge in the morning as they are not cold produce items, students can bring them directly to their lesson on the day.

Ingredients:

1 pack of Pita bread

1 tube of Tomato puree

Mozzarella cheese or dairy fee alternative (This can be grated)

2 - 3 Toppings of choice (This can be vegetables or pre cooked chicken etc)

Container to take pizza home in.

If you are experiencing any financial difficulties in regards to providing ingredients please email with the student name and class code so that I can provide ingredients on their behalf - m luke@kingsbolton com
