In the world of real estate, where transactions can be merely business-driven, there are extraordinary individuals like Janet Borchert, who see an opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives.

Janet is a seasoned Realtor with WK Real Estate who has been creating lasting relationships with her clients for over two decades. Her journey from speech language pathology to real estate was driven by her passion for forming genuine connections and her desire to be a part of her clients’ long-term success. In this article, we explore Janet’s personal background, her career transition, her commitment to community involvement, and the impact she leaves on the lives of her clients.

Janet spent her early years in Connecticut until her father’s job at Storage Tech led them to relocate to Colorado when she was only 7 years old. Boulder became Janet’s forever home, and she developed a deep connection with the community that would shape her life in the years to come. While earning her undergraduate and graduate degrees in speech language pathol-ogy and psychology from the University of ColoradoBoulder, Janet worked for a real estate company.

“I did everything from answering the phones to assisting agents, to running the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac department in the 90s when all the foreclo-sures were happening. I learned so much, and I loved it.” However, an extensive education in the healthcare field led her to pursue a career where she worked with stroke patients in nursing homes and hospitals. Although she loved her work, she felt a desire for more long-term connections with people. Janet’s mother has been a real estate agent since Janet’s childhood, which served as an inspiration for her to venture into this business as well. Interestingly, her mother’s background was also initially in the healthcare field. She served as a nurse before transitioning to real estate. After seven years, Janet decided to make the shift to the real estate industry herself.

Unlike her work in healthcare, where she couldn’t follow up with her patients, real estate allowed Janet to be there for her clients through every step of their homeownership journey. From first-time buyers to investment property owners, Janet assists clients across the spectrum of residential real estate needs. She also cherishes the long-term relationships that last long after the sale.

Mentoring and teaching have also been a large component of Janet’s work in the industry. To date she has mentored over 25 agents, guiding them through the complexities of the real estate world.

“Once an agent has her/his license, it’s a state requirement to be super-vised for two years. I am currently mentoring four agents. This involves reviewing their contracts, going to closings and inspections with me, and meeting weekly for questions. I tell them to look at it like its graduate school – a two-year learning process.”

She finds immense joy in knowing many of her mentees have achieved top-producing awards and other accolades, making her work truly fulfilling. “Engaging in mentorship with new agents has proven to be benefi-cial in my role as well. Having been in this profession for an extended period, there’s a possibility that I might unknowingly use language that clients find challenging to grasp. However, mentoring new agents keeps me attuned to individuals who may lack experience and are unfamil-iar with industry jargon.”

As a locally owned company, WK Real Estate deeply values its connection with the Boulder community. Janet wholeheartedly embraces this ethos and remains actively involved in

numerous community events.

She volunteers with the Community Food Share and donates to local causes, demonstrating her commitment to giving back to the community that has given her so much. Additionally, WK sponsors various local events and schol-arships for the business school at the University of Colorado-Boulder.

With over two decades of experience, Janet offers valuable insights into the current real estate market. As the market has stabilized somewhat, she encourages potential buyers to take advantage of this time when they can avoid bidding wars. By collaborating with reputable lenders, viable solutions can be found to tackle the higher interest rates. Janet predicts a surge in demand from millennials and other buyers, making the present an opportune time to invest in real estate.

As for Janet’s personal life, she is a single mom, who has raised four children who are all grown now. Despite facing the challenges of single parenthood after her children’s dad passed away five years ago, she dedicated herself to her children and cherished the time spent with them. However, as her children have become inde-pendent adults, Janet has found more time to explore her passions and interests. When she isn’t dedicating herself to her clients, she enjoys an active life of

hiking, gardening, and traveling. She has discovered that getting out of town allows her to take a break from her work, even though she still remains committed to her job. Her love for concerts and music has led her to travel to various places to attend live performances. She recently caught Dead and Co at Folsom Field with some girlfriends as well as Taylor Swift in Denver with her daughter. Currently, Janet’s biggest passion centers around following a DJ named Kygo. She and her friends have become avid fans of his music remixes and have traveled to places like Cabo, New York City, Las Vegas, Malibu, and Dana Point to catch his performances. Kygo has become their inspiration to explore new locations and enjoy unforget-table experiences.

Her love for football and the college atmosphere has remained a constant in Janet’s life. Since 1976, she has been attending CU football games and is a proud season ticket holder. Having attended the university during its national championship victories, the college games hold a special place in her heart. Janet has even turned her passion for football into a tailgate tradition, where she mingles with clients and enjoys the camaraderie of fellow fans.

Janet’s connection with WK Real Estate runs deep. Her mother still works with the company, and now Janet’s daughter works there as well, creating a wonderful threegenerational WK connection. “There are four multi-generations who work at WK Real Estate. This speaks volumes about the company’s excellence.

Janet wants to emphasize that real estate is far from an easy job. If someone is solely driven by the desire to make a lot of money, this might not be the right profession for them. The role of a real estate agent involves continuous support and assistance to clients during challenging times, fostering meaningful relationships. Janet advises newcomers to the business that it goes beyond merely showing properties. It requires utmost focus and adherence to numerous rules and regula-tions, many of which people may not even be aware of. Continuous education is essential to stay informed about the ever-changing landscape of the industry. But, if you’re ready for all that, Janet says, “It can be a very wonderful and rewarding career!”

I AM CURRENTLY MENTORING FOUR AGENTS. THIS INVOLVES REVIEWING THEIR CONTRACTS, GOING TO CLOSINGS AND INSPECTIONS WITH ME, AND MEETING WEEKLY FOR QUESTIONS.

Janet's experience and familiarity of the Boulder area was a true asset for us. She is great at quickly building strong client relationship & trust. This immediately put us at ease as we were able to speak our mind freely. She was very effective at putting our feedback into action. If you live in Colorado, you should be working with Janet to buy a house. This woman knows more about real estate in Colorado than anyone. She worked with us to help us buy and sell four houses, during our 10 years in the state. That's not an easy task! We found her work to be exemplary and her personality inspiring. Janet is a friend now, not merely a real estate agent we recommend. She brings that to her workthat sense of "you're a person like me, so I will give you 110%, as I would want you to give me". I recommend her work as a real estate agent, and I recommend her as a person who will learn your likes and dislikes and never steer you wrong, in your pursuit of the perfect home.
