Needham’s Assets and Initiatives » Needham’s Center at The Heights is a model for the 4th District, the first Center in Massachusetts to be accredited by the National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC). » The Substance Prevention Alliance of Needham (SPAN) began in 2006 and implements strategies aimed at decreasing risk factors for youth substance use and promoting community resilience. » Strong Interfaith Community. Led by the Needham Interfaith Clergy Association, the community brings many faiths together and fosters a common bond between them. » Olin College of Engineering. The College has an impressive top three ranking among undergraduate-only engineering programs by US News and World Report.

Needham’s Challenges » Housing Affordability. The cost of housing in Needham is a challenge for seniors and for younger residents. » Transportation. Needam residents report that they are frustrated by increasing commute times and the lack of public transportation on weekends. » School Funding and Overcrowding. Needham’s strong school system is under stress due to falling tax revenues during the pandemic. » Pedestrian Safety. After the death of two Needham High School teens from pedestrian accidents, the town consulted outside help to construct a plan to fix Needham’s pedestrian infrastructure.

Alan Khazei is not a politician - he is a movement leader who co-founded City Year and led the national service movement to launch, protect and grow AmeriCorps. Alan is ready on Day One to lead the effort in Congress to protect our environment, ensure affordable healthcare for all, stop gun violence, address racial injustice and restore the American Dream for working families.

Alan’s Plan for Needham was built by listening to the people of Needham. In Congress, Alan will: Explore new housing options for the elderly wishing to stay in their communities by giving grants to select local housing authorities to test new approaches. Help restore education funding by passing the Heroes Act in Congress to secure $10,284,747 in funding for Needham. Support local leaders in their execution of the 2019 Town-Wide Pedestrian Safety Audit. Create a Needham Congressional Advisory Board to stay connected to local issues in Needham and ensure stakeholder voices are heard in Washington.
