Fall River’s Assets and Initiatives » Fall River Waterfront. The city’s beautiful historical waterfront represents a tremendous asset for multi-use development. » Entrepreneurs for All, in association with UMass Dartmouth Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, helps close the opportunity inequality gap and create employment in Fall River. » The $263 Million new, state-of-the-art B.M.C. Durfee High School will open to serve Fall River students as scheduled in 2021. » Greater Fall River Re-Creation Center helps residents, particularly economically disadvantaged youth, access opportunities for talent development.

Fall River’s Challenges » Public Transit. Fall River is held back by a lack of efficient and affordable public transportation. » Unemployment. Due to COVID-19, unemployment in Fall River has risen from 4.7% to over 24% » School Funding. Reduced state and municipal revenues pose a serious threat to the quality of public education in Fall River. » The Opioid Epidemic. Sixty-five opioid-related deaths of Fall River residents were recorded in 2019, showing no slowdown in the devastating impact of the epidemic.

Alan Khazei is not a politician - he is a movement leader who co-founded City Year and led the national service movement to launch, protect and grow AmeriCorps. Alan is ready on Day One to lead the effort in Congress to protect our environment, ensure affordable healthcare for all, stop gun violence, address racial injustice and restore the American Dream for working families.

Alan’s Plan for Fall River was built by listening to the people of Fall River. In Congress, Alan will: Fight to include funding in a new infrastructure bill to accelerate the construction of South Coast rail to spur economic development, tourism, and clean energy jobs across the 4th District. Address the spike in unemployment through a Federal Jobs Guarantee including expanding AmeriCorps and providing Emergency Wage Support to save small businesses and keep people on the payroll. Help restore education funding by passing the Heroes Act in Congress to secure $140,122,701 in funding for Fall River. Work to destigmatize and elevate the opioid and substance challenges of our community and country, prioritizing care over criminality.
